The woman on 1st shift wasn’t the friendliest, elevator so small and hot. The soaps you provide for customers should just be elimated. What’s the purpose?
The good - Bed was comfortable, Staff were friendly and helpful, location was great. The bad - Bathroom floor was soaked from leaking shower, we had a room that faced onto the street, even with triple glazing it was LOUD. No breakfast option available to us. The ugly - we retired for the night as we wanted to watch the football on the TV. We couldnt get the TV to work so reception came up, had a play around with it and said sorry - not working and left. Very disappointed to pay 100 pounds and not have a TV in the room.
It is wonderful that it has parking on the premises and it is a short walk to the pedestrian area of Porto. It helped that the halal kebab place a couple of doors down is excellent
Wouldn’t return
Strange process of keeping the key when you go out. Every time I came home I had to buzz for ages to be let back in. Came back with my friend one night to await their taxi and was told I had to pay €25. Probably why they keep your key. We were talking in by room for all of 5 minutes before the same receptionist came up and complained about noise. We had no tv on or music playing. The walls must be paper thin as you’re not allowed to talk in your own room. Room itself had no window. This wasn’t advertised. Musty horrible smell in the room. Bathroom very grubby. And the shower was leaking.
Welcoming and helpful staff and super clean room with everything you need. Great value for $
One morning our room was not cleaned! Not enough towels, just 2 for us two?. But when we said that to very kind and professional recepcionist Raffaela everything was much better. The staff serving breakfast is little bit to old. You need younger people. Location is convenient. All together solid good.
A problem with air-conditioning first night, but was resolved without too much trouble. Great showers and beds. Reception staff very pleasant and helpful. Breakfast good except for Nescafe coffee machine. Nice location.
15min to 20min walk to town hall. Very good location. Staff are friendly . The only thing is you can hear noise of people in the corridor. Breakfast was ok for three star hotel.
Clean, roomy and easy access to city
The staff was incredibly nice. The breakfast in the morning was also a nice touch. They had a nice variety of food, so each morning I had something different. My room was a bit small, but it was perfect for a solo trip. Everything is in walking distance if you don’t mind walking. Night life 15 mins away, restaurants minutes away, the sites also between 10-20 mins away. A good place to stay and worth the $.
Really good
Good value
Very basic, good value hotel. My first room was unacceptable as it had only a sliver of a window and I felt extremely claustrophobic. They were able to move me the next day to the 1st floor facing the street which was much better! Quite lovey staff!! Minimal English spoken which is a bit unusual for the hospitality industry and very unreliable wifi. This post is written during the omnicron variant and I was required to go to the pharmacy and purchase a pcr test which was not stated in hotels.com . I was very annoyed by that as I was travel weary and the self test kit is tricky without English instructions.
Great budget hotel
Excellent hotel
Absolutely comfortable... all the staff are friendly... they will helped you when you need help.. and they're approachable... I love this hotel... the location reachable in the city center... its perfect for your stay in porto..
Room was a 3 star expectation, not the room I booked. The price for room was a little steep.
location is relatively good, hotel is NOT. you hear EVERY NOISE. Cleaning ladies clean at like 7.30 in the morning with noises like going to war. Forget to sleep after 8:00
Very good rooms in excellent location
We booked this last minute after booking a different hotel which was shocking! We got the last room and I cant find 1 fault! Location Excellent, breakfast was good!
great option
Staff very kind, nice breakfast, quite, great location, comfortable bed, clean. Great value
Very decent hotel for a 3 star. Rooms were clean, altough the bathroom is not modern the bedroom was quite decent.
You get what you pay for.
It is no more than 3 star hotel. Shower is moldy, bad WiFi connection. It works only the reception area.
Very good! I`ll back some day! The food was very good, also the location and the service
Devia ter mais limpeza e melhor ambiente. Obrigado
Good hotel
Friendly staff especially at Breakfast. The breakfast is fantastic and sets you up for the hilly streets of Porto. The room was small but adequate. Lots of food outlets and restaurants close by and metro isn't too far.
Everything was quite pleasing. I selected it because it was close to my event in Porto. Staff were helpful. Room was clean. Minor plumbing problem was fixed quickly. The neighborhood is walkable and Metro is close enough. There's a major mall nearby, lots of places to eat, a laundry, and pharmacies on Santa Katarina.
I had a terrific stay. Everyone was available for all my desires And neededs
Good for a short stay
The hotel is in a good area, lots of cafés, restaurants and shopping centres nearby. It's next to a main road, so there were some car noises, but nothing too loud. Breakfast had a good selection of breads, jams, cakes and cheeses, but the coffee was awful! The only big negative was that the silicon sealant between the bathtub and the glass doors was covered in black mold.
Nice and tidy room.Cost effective - breakfast included. The breakfast was decent and sufficient. I really enjoyed staying there, It is about 20- 30 minutes walk from sau bento but also has some bus service close by. Would stay again definitely.
Terrible checking-in process
It hotel was good for the price but they had cancelled the room that I had booked as they said my credit card had been declined which it had not. I eventually stayed in a room in the hotel with 4 single beds
Staff was very helpful. Room was very small but enough for two people. Breakfast was very good and fresh. Location was in reach of most attractions.
Noisy at night, long walk to the centre
Mediocre hotel, blocked drain in the bath, hair on the floor, couldn’t sleep for blaring music and noisey corridors
Tiny room. The worst experience ever...
Good Hotel and almost perfect service bar one man
Check in was perfect, staff were polite and knew several languages so we were not at odds there. The room was clean however a number of issues were present, a plug socket was falling apart and could be a serious hazard. There was a fridge that seemed little more than a box with a light regardless of the temperature set on it. The lights appeared to be temperamental depending on what switches you used to turn on and off the main lights, if your bed side were switched off and the main switch was on you could not use the bed side to switch them off again, if one beside had the main lights turned on then the other side couldn't turn them off. The bathroom was clean albeit for a few burn marks in the bath. There was no real information in the room to say what to do with the towels if you wanted them cleaned so we left them on the floor as with other hotels. On the second day we showered and left for our first day exploring and came back late that evening to find the beds unmade, the towels and other amenities had been not replaced. We weren't sure of the pattern the hotel followed so the next morning we asked at the front desk. The man at the front desk was on the phone so we waited, we asked about the room servicing and his reply was that it was every 2nd day but he was short and rude in explaining this. Every single day that week our towels were changed and beds were made so he had also lied. Every other staff member was perfect.
Ideal for leisure trip or Visiting Porto football
Really Good room. Lovely shower, very comfy bed and a great breakfast. On a hill but keeps you fit after the plentiful breakfast
Good location.
This hotel looks a bit tired from the outside but it's in a decent location a short walk from all amenities and the sights of Porto. Our room had a very small bathroom but an excellent shower and was comfortable enough. Breakfast could be improved, for example scrambled/fried eggs consistently stone cold over a 3 day stay. Staff friendly and helpful, but seemed to lack a bit of enthusiasm. I'd probably stay again due to the good location and reasonable price, parking available, for a one or two night visit.
Excellent accomodation and I will be back!
I'm definitely coming back here. I booked a single room and it was so spacious and comfortable that I wanted to stay. Walk straight down this street and there are restaurants, shops, tourist attractions, clubs...it was awesome. There was a lot of choice at breakfast, a really nice big bar area. It's definitely value for money! Ohhh and the lady at check in had a lovely attitude and a massive smile that made me feel welcomed.
Pleasant Experience
The staff is very helpful and friendly. The breakfast was very good and the facility very clean. Good value for your money. My bed was very comfortable which is needed for a good nights sleep.
Not too bad good location value for money
Nice hotel
Near the shops but a good walk to the river. Breakfast was good. Service was good, staff were friendly and helpful. Rooms were very clean
Visit US without leaving Europe
Simply Great!
very outdated beds
Hotel lobby and breakfast room were very nice, our room had 4 twin beds, beds were extremely outdated and not comfortable. Bedding was so old, not your typical white down comforter, some old fashioned bedspread and blanket that was scratchy and smelly!!! We were also told there was free wifi, but upon check in was told it was only in the lobby and breakfast room. Hotel is about 2 blocks from the end of a very touristy neighborhood, so a little of a run down neighborhood, felt a little unsafe walking back at night.
Good value hotel
Good value hotel for the price. Friendly efficient staff. Standard fare continental breakfast. Good enough wifi reception to stream. A 10 to 15 minute walk down to the river front but beware it's a huge steep climb back up! Taxi back recommended. Costs about 7 euros. Our room was on the first floor at the front and was a bit noisy from the road outside , higher up rooms would be better.
Hotel very disapointing
Hotel is in an OK position, rooms very noisey . The bed was the most uncomfortable bed I have ever slept in , the pillows the same. Staff were not very friendly .
Hotel central no Porto
Hotel central e econômico.
Horrible breakfast, bad area. Beds Ok but nothing special
When we arrived we were put in a four bed room right at the back of the hotel with a very small window. The hot water in the bathroom had to be run for at least ten minutes before coming through the taps. I had specifically requested a twin room when booking and also confirmed this with your agent before travelling. The hotel was unable to change the room as it was fully booked. The hotel had no restaurants, bars etc within easy walking distance of it.
Great location! Good value. 100%recommend
For the price, it's fine
Well, stayed only one night and made sure to get a room on the back as I read some reviews cautioning the noise from Main Street (which is right). For the price, the room was fine and service ok. Don't get too late for breakfast or there will be nothing left...
Stay in Porto
Had hairs on the floor, small rooms, noisy street. Poor breakfast, extensive for what it is
Recommended - excellent value for money
The Hotel America was a very nice, comfortable hotel, which was surprisingly good for how cheap it was. The staff were very friendly, the breakfast was very nice in a lovely room, and it was great to make the short walk away from the tourist area back to the hotel at the end of the day. One slight issue, was the road outside was a little noisy, but I'd definitely recommend Hotel America to anyone going to Porto.
Mr
A good Hotel for the money. The garage is very tight and it can be a challenge to park. Smell smoke almost in every corner of the hotel, which should be a smoke free hotel if you read about it.. Close to the city.
Good location with parking
The staff was friendly though there is only 1 person at a time at the hotel who does everything. Hotel not far from downtown and is convenient to go there on foot. Room needs some fixing and some maintenance.
A small but very nice hotel very
A small but very nice hotel very close to the old port. They do have a parking garage at the hotel which is a plus however it is very narrow and we needed the staff to back our car out for us! Very friendly and helpful staff.
Staff were extremely helpful and
Staff were extremely helpful and welcoming. Parking was provided as well as breakfast. Excellent location - we could walk to restaurants, shopping, and the main downtown Porto easily. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

Excelente hotel.. super recomendado
Personale gentilissimo, posizione ottima.
Hotel bom, bonito e barato no centro do Porto
Sehr gute Lage, hilfsbereites Personal, gutes Frühstück.
me gusto
¡He tenido buena estancia!
I like Porto
Queit stylish and a good comfort even though it's that cheap. Helpfull frontdesk Espen
Recomendo
Great staff, cleaned hotel, very close to the Center.
Personnel tres sympa. Bonne base pour visiter Porto.
Hotel Amarica Pirto
Staff verey friendly and helpful breakfast same each morning and not great Plugs for charging phone not working Hotel is in a good location our room verey small not much room to move about
