Very nice staff. clean, quiet room.
Good location, but unfortunately: Promised soundproofing isnon-rxistamce
Close to public transportation and Old City. Great breakfast in the am in the lobby. Wonderful staff
Handy position for sightseeing.
My husband and I had a great stay. Rooms were clean, staff was friendly and location was great. Wifi was a bit spotty.
This property has a wonderful location, close to shops and restaurants and also the U-Bahn. We were able to do most of our sightseeing simply by walking! The staff were lovely and helpful. It’s an older property but I will absolutely stay there again next time I am in Munich!
Old and narrow - very German
I just think it was not worth the money we paid. Rooms smell and give you an overall impression of being old
We had a great stay! Thank you!
We stayed for a few nights. The location was great, the staff was kind and helpful, and the room was comfortable and clean. Our room was on the top floor, and it was very quiet. Some reviews were negative because there was no AC. Well... This is a relatively small hotel in a European city; of course, there won't be an AC! But the room was equipped with fans, and we barely needed them. During the day, we were out and about, and at night, the fan was more than enough (we didn't even use it every night). So, this is a lovely place to stay in Munich, and if we come back, we'll definitely book it again!
The hotel is good, but if you go in the summer months beware there’s no ac!
We were able to walk to almost everything wr wanted to see. For those things that were too far to walk to, we could easily walk to the bus, tram, and subway.
This hotel was great. It’s centrally located and walkable to Marienplatz and the surrounding area. Also close to transportation. The rooms are small, but nice. Staff is very kind. We had a garden-side room and it was very quiet. However others had street-side and it was a bit noisy.
Good location and close to metro. Staff were friendly and helpful. No air con which made room quite hot but not unbearable. But noisy if we left window open.
Euros 2024 Visit
Hotel in good location. Room small, bathroom tiny!!!
Centrally located and close to underground and tram terminals. The rooms were clean. There was no air conditioning, but we had cool weather that week, so it wasn't an issue. It might be an issue in warm weather. Walkable to town centre ( 12mins) and subway ( 3 mins) Staff all very friendly.
Well placed to Marienplatz.
Nicelocation
location is close to everything
A pop/snack machine would be a welcome addition!
The staff make this hotel special, all doing a great job
Great Hotel & Great Location
Really nice hotel with great friendly staff who were very helpful from the moment we arrived. Great location in a side street that is only a short stroll from Marienplatz. The rooms were comfortable and had everything we needed for a short break.
The staff went out of their way to be helpful.
I liked everything
We enjoyed our stay, close in proximity to dinning locations & transportation. Only draw back is the walk up the steps, they have a small lift we used primarily for just hauling our luggage up and down. Would recommend this location for your stay in Munich.
Accommodation was great. Hotel breakfast was easy and affordable.
We stayed in this hotel for 4 days during Oktoberfest and it was in a great location. Very close to the subway and lots of restaurants, shops, convenience stores nearby. The hotel is older, but we found the rooms very charming and they were clean. There is no AC, so staying here in the summer could be uncomfortably hot, as it was we slept with the windows open all night. Staff were friendly and spoke English. There is only one elevator that really only fits two people at a time, but again we found it quite charming. I would recommend to stay here as long as you don't have mobility issues.
Perfect location - clean , great breakfast !
no tea or coffee facilities
Altmünchen is within easy walking distance of the Sendlinger Tor U-Bahn station, which is only one stop from the main Munich train station. Also within easy walking distance of many sites in old Munich. We had a room for 3, which was cozy, but worked fine for our sleeping purposes. Front desk staff was always present, friendly, and helpful. Only word of caution is, there are many sirens from fire and police vehicles due to the close proximity to a fire station, but with widows closed, it's not very noticable. I'd love to stay at Hotel Altmünchen again.
It was an amazing property, staff, and location. The best place to stay in Munich.
easy check in and check out, done online. Quiet area. clean hotel, helpful staff, good breakfast at 15 Euros extra charge.
What a waste
The front desk guy was very rude upon check-in. No A/C in the room and the property didn’t look like it did online
Advertised that there was airconditioning but sadly the only thing was a standing fan to move the air around. Was somewhat stuffy
Great place, highly recommended
We stayed here for 2 nights in April and enjoyed our stay. The hotel is centrally located and we were able to walk everywhere we wanted to go. It was about a 15-20 minute walk to the Marienplatz and 15 minute walk to the Hop on Hop off bus. Our room was clean and comfortable. It faced the back of the building and was quiet. Breakfast was excellent! A varied assortment of many different items. Breads, meats, cheese, eggs, sausage, cereal, fruit, yogurt.
We chose this hotel because of it's close proximity to transport and nightlife
Very traditional non-chain hotel right in the center of old Munich. within a walkable mile to Marienplatz, Oktoberfest, the tram/bus lines, shopping and restaurants. We liked the location and the hominess. Staff was friendly and let us keep our luggage there on check out day for a while. Hotel room was ready early too. As with older, charming places things were a bit small: The room, the bathroom, the elevator. Overall a great place to stay.
This was an excellent property. It is quaint. I liked the location and much of what we wanted to do was walkable. The only thing to be aware of is that the elevator is tiny, I mean two people with luggage only. Norbert was excellent and the service outstanding.
I enjoyed everything about staying here. Close to subway, tram stop and lovely staff. So friendly and helpful. Room was very clean! The only thing that would help is air conditioning.
Jim & Sue from Canada
The hotel was very nice and the staff were friendly. The front desk staff made helpful suggestions for things like restaurants and tours. The location was amazing, just a few minute walk to Marienplatz. I would highly recommend this hotel.
Staff very friendly
We were not told the room would not be cleaned at all. The hotel said this was Expedia's fault. We were not told by Expedia. In order to get the receipt, which I needed, I asked four times at the hotel and finally had to e-mail the company. I received it a week later.
Correct hotel,very modest.
Correct hotel, well located not far from center. The breakfast and the reception correct but not wonderfull. The staff could be more friendly.
I didn’t stay at this hotel due to coronavirus. I contacted the hotel and they refused to offer me a refund or rebooking, claiming that there were no restrictions. I will never use this hotel or Expedia again. I will avoid going to Munich because the hotels there are expensive, poor value and run by extremely rude people. This hotel gives the travel industry and Munich a very bad name.
Really friendly welcome at reception. Exceptionally clean. Fab breakfast. Great location for old town.
This is a standard hotel with the usual business hotel feel. It is in a great location close to the metro and a short walk to the central old town. The desk staff spoke very little English, but we were able to check in and out with no problem. If you have a lot of luggage, it might be useful to know that the elevator is very small.
Great location
The hotel was located in a great spot right next to Marienplatz. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The only negative is that the hotel needs to be updated. Other than that, we really enjoyed it
This is a boutique hotel with excellent connections to transit, restaurants, and Marienplatz destinations. All is clean, breakfast is good in a lovely setting. Staff is helpful.
Loved my stay!
Very quaint and cozy stay! The staff was amazing and welcoming. Walking distance from shopping and restaurants. I highly recommend them if you are trying to experience a nice local Bavarian stay.
Nice room, nice comfortable common areas, clean bathrooms Norbert was very helpful and just all around nice man. Michael was just plain rude.
Great stayed
I enjoyed my stayed. Front desk staff was very friendly and helpful. location is great.
Perfect for our needs
This was a charming little hotel in a perfect location, ideally placed for public transport links, being a 2 minute walk from the nearest underground, minutes walk to cafes & restaurants & a 5 -10 minute walk to Marienplatz & the Hauptbahnhof. As another reviewer noticed, the gentleman on reception immediately remembered our names, which was a nice touch. The room was decorated in an old fashioned style which added to it's charm in my opinion. It was roomy with a large very comfortable bed and a perfectly adequate bathroom with a lovely over-bath shower. I would definitely return here if I were in Munich again and would recommend it to anyone.
Very convenient location, quiet street. It was veey hot, fan, no aircomditioning and we requested no housekeeping as we closed windows and curtains to keep room cool. Request ignored and we returned to full sun in our roon
No A/C 👎
very friendly lady and gentlemen in reception. Location is perfect in price wise at Easter eve.
clean and cozy hotel near Sendlinger tor.
Very clean . The cleanest bedding sheets and pillow case I have ever seen in the hotel. The location is near the sendlinger tor yet very quite. We got there 6 hours before the check in time but they let us check in right away. Very good service and clean and comfortable room. We will stay this hotel next visit for sure !
In town for the Christmas Market
We called from Dublin to advise of our late arrival and Norbert, the on duty staff reacted by sending us an e-mail with detail information on how to reach the hotel from the airport! Location turned out to be rather handy for our 5 nights stay in town to experience the Christmas Season. Buffet breakfast items were generally the same everyday but there were enough choices to make a different plate every other day. It was worth the cost of about 10 Euro per person/day.
Quaint, clean, comfortable bed and the staff are very pleasant!
Norbert the property manager was amazing! Excellent customer service. Property is well maintained and in a good location. Everything is at a walking distance .
The hotel and the room is really old and the elevator is just so small. It could be noisy at night and they don't have safe in the rooms. The staff was kind at least and the subway station is so close.
Cute little Hotel with very impolite staff. I'm shocked at how I was treated by the receptionist. It's a pity because I really liked the place.
Great location, petit place but comfy, old style. Feels like home.
Return to Munich
Have stayed at this hotel before and enjoy it a lot.
The hotel was so friendly. The morning breakfast was a perfect way to start each day! Very easy to work with even though I spoke no german!
Nice central location
The hotel and staff were very nice. It’s in an old buidling and the rooms have been renovated. Comfortable beds and clean bathroom. The lift is small and typical of an old building. The main drawback would be the smell of smoke noticeable when you enter through the front door. There was a small “outdoor area” between the reception and stairwell were patrons and manager were smoking with the door wide open the smell hence ascend the stairs and into the bedroom. Had to place a blanket by the door at night in attempt to reduce the smell entering our room.
Hotel staff was very friendly and accommodating. The hotel is located within 10 minutes walking distances to heart of Munich. The hotel is about 45minutes to the airport.
Great location. Not good breakfast and no tv
Best thing about this hotel is location. Our room was small but clean. TV?? ZERO channels in English and the German channels rarely worked. When I arrived at the hotel, I inquired about what time breakfast was served (very very basic breakfast...cold cuts, bread, pastries, cereal and coffee) and I was told it started 6:30. Never said there was a charge for it. It was around TEN EUROS PER PERSON. I was not aware of that until checkout. I felt scammed. Don’t waste your money on the breakfast
We were disappointed that the room was not air conditioned as our room was on the fifth floor and the temperature was about 28 degrees. it made for some very warm nights . There was no ice vending machine. The gentleman at reception was very grumpy. He was not welcoming at all.
A very good value.
Staff are just wonderful, breakfast is very nice, location is the best to Marionplaz, Ubahn, walking about, and rooms comfortable.
Great value
Great stay! Helpful staff and a great breakfast! Good location in Munich!
The hotel is in a terrific area of Munich. We walked everywhere. When it was time to take the S Bahn it was a block away.
Friendly staff, good location, very clean. Facility is old but bathroom was renovated and cleaned. I think it is a really nice hotel as a three star. Downside can be no Air conditioner.
Old hotel, poor service, good location
Good location is the only good thing. The hotel is very old. NO ironer in the room and they offer to iron your clothes saying it will be free but then you have to pay for it.
Cycling
Pleasant stay in a more than adequate hotel close to the city centre.
Convenient hotel in heart of Munich
Our stay at Acunthushotel was comfortable. The hotel is conveniently located in the heart of Munich, close to the U-Bahn station and a short walk from Old Town. The room was quite small but clean and staff were very polite. However, the wifi is weak and inconsistent.
Small and friendly hotel
Check in was very easy as the attending staff was expecting us. The room and bathroom are not big but enough and functional. The double plus single beds combo is ideal for my family of 3. Beds and linen felt good. Our room rate did not include breakfast. We tried it one morning and found the spread very good and service very friendly. Both room and breakfast are excellent value.
close to everything we wanted to see in one day.
Very friendly staff and nice breakfast. We were able to walk to everything we wanted to see We are very pleased with hotel and location.
The check-in process was seamless. Moreover, the service at the hotel was great. We were provided coffee on the house upon arrival. Furthermore, the hotel provided a key storage service so we need not bring the room key around the city.
Staff was friendly, location was good. it is an older hotel, but very nicely maintained.
Centrally located Hotel--recommended
Centrally located Hotel in walking distance from Marienplatz and shopping area. Facilities in the Hotel is adequate Small but clean and comfortable
Very nice little hotel the breakfast is excellent at the right price.
Excellent public transport, superb staff
Excellent concierge help from both the evening and morning managers. When my husband injured himself, they very kindly lent him a set of crutches and told him where he could buy his own for the rest of our trip. Great local entertainment recommendations; big, delicious breakfasts; superb access to public transportation within a block. Lots of construction on the streets nearby, but we didn't hear it. Highly recommended.
Very good for the paid price.
It was very good relative to the price. The location was excellent.
Munich ISPO Trip 2018
This is my second year booking this hotel for ISPO. The hotel is located right next to the U line. It's a quick walk to downtown where there is great shopping and food options. It's the same front desk staff as last year, and they are wonderful. Super accommodating and helpful. The hotel feels like being at home vs a unlived in modern high rise that has no comfort.
Great hotel in a great location
Acanthushotel Munich
We stayed 4 nights in Munich and AcunthusHotel was lovely. The service was very good and the breakfast was amazing and affordable. We also loved the location!
Clean and warm on a cold night. Very close to the pedestrian area. An older style hotel but with its own quirky charms. Staff very pleasant.
Nice option in waking distance of everything
Great location, good service as well as clean with great breakfast buffet. bathroom on the small side but functional and clean.
Highly Recommend
This hotel was perfectly situated for our stay to visit the Christmas markets. The staff here are very friendly and extremely helpful. Especially Norbert who went above and beyond to help us plan a day trip out of town. He could not have been more helpful. It was also a lovely touch to receive a Christmas package on our last day.
Fine stay
Just stayed a night while waiting for connecting flight. Hotel was as described and as shown in pictures. The wifi was dodgy and required you re-enter token and password frequently.
great central location
bed consisted of two single beds pushed together with a wide gap in middle - not great for those used to our Canadian double bed standards
Great little hotel excellent location cheap and friendly clean as a whistle with friendly staff would stay again
Nice hotel close to everything.
Nice hotel with friendly and very helpful staff. Wonderful morning breakfast buffet. Walk only a few blocks and you are in the middle of shopping, restaurants, transportation, and nearby banks should you need one.
From the viewpoint of a single retired female...
Although the people who work at this hotel were very sweet and accommodating, the physical hotel was disappointing. After 3 weeks in hotels traveling to the Czech Republic, Romania, Naples/Pompeii Italy, Hungary, Austria, and Munich (twice), this was my last stop/hotel before coming back to the U.S. It was one of the few hotels that did not provide coffee/tea setups in the room but it did have a refrigerator. They offer a breakfast (surcharge), but I didn't eat there because there is a bakery close by. They offered free internet and it worked great. I was able to watch Netflix on my IPad with no problems. The bed was clean and comfortable. The hotel staff was pleasant and eager to please; however, some things should just be right from the start, expecially when paying as much as I did during Oktoberfest for 3 nights. For instance: the water never got hot. The best it got was tepid, like a swimming pool. The makeup mirror was about 10-15 cm too high. Most women would not be able to use it. The carpet/drapes/upholstered chairs were in great need of cleaning or replacing--they appear to be from the 1970's. The door lock is a one-key deadbolt on a half-pound keychain. I kept chairs against the doors at night. No secondary locks. I did not like having to go up a bunch of steps to open the heavy front door with luggage in hand. The area around the door is too small to accommodate a person with luggage who has to hold that heavy door to get it all through there.
Cute hotel in a great location.
We stayed here for Oktoberfest with friends. The location was excellent to see the sights, restaurants, subway and Oktoberfest. The breakfast in the morning was nice to have as it was very convenient. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The staff were excellent. Always friendly and accommodating. We would stay again.
Close to the centre
Staff was really friendly and helpful. Room was also nice and comfortable. The only issue is that the plug in the bath tub is not working properly, hence, it does not drain the water efficiently.
Traditional central hotel
If you need to stay in this part of central Munich, this hotel will suit. Its very good if your expectations are those of the 1980s, but I expect fast internet and to stay logged onto the internet. The hotel has been well maintained but just feels like its in a time warp. The phone system is old and doesnt work well. Needs an overhaul.A traditional style does not need to feel stagnant.
Great location
The staff were very friendly. The location is a quick 15-20 minute walk to the Marienplatz and cafe's. It was quieter as off the busy streets. Unfortunately, we were there for a heat wave and were on the 5th floor. Without air conditioning or a decent fan, it was hot. They did provide a medium size oscillating fan but it was still very hot. The room décor was clean but a bit dated and older. My advice is if you are visiting in the summer months, ask for a room on a lower floor. The WIFI did not work well for my phone but my husband did not have a problem. They have a computer on site to use. The elevator was very small. But I was just grateful they had an elevator and we didn't have to walk to the 5th floor. Other than that, I would stay there again.
Wonderful service, convenient, quiet location.
Building is a bit old, but location is excellent, near the square. The life is only large enough for one person. Room a little dark and dingy, but adequate. Hotel staff was friendly, extremely helpful and accommodating, worth the "ok" room.

Great location
