Nice hotel
Good hotel , great location nice room clean and comfortable . Bar food and service very good . Reception lady a bit curt ! My daughter with a new born baby requested a late check out and was prepared to pay but was told ‘ no we don’t do that ‘ very bruskly ! Really ?! Most hotels do late check out options . Not good
Took at least half an hour to find the hotel as the predominant name on the hotel sign was NOT Thalazur.
Amazing stay and great spa.
Lovely hotel. The spa pool was great and easy access to the beach. Very close to the ferry.
The property is on 2 floors and the elevator is some distance from reception - we also (as is our luck!) had to walk a distance to the room. Parked on site both nights despite the hotel appearing to be busy. Room - large twin single beds with the usual space to get past the end of the beds (also nice to have 2 armchairs); separate WC in a very tight space; large shower; TV unfortunately only in French; pleasant with A/C and window can be opened. Beds had 'firm' mattresses casuing me a back problem. Food and service was excellent both nights - an English translation of the restaurant menu would be helpful (bar menu is translated). Great breakfast with cooked option (sausage, scrambled egg, toast) available alongside usual croissant and pastries, cold meats, cheese, fruits, yogurts etc.
Probably wouldn't stay here again.
We stayed 3 nights in the hotel. Everything was ok except for...... There was a smell of drains in the main entrance and sometimes outside the front of the hotel. I never ate an evening meal so can't comment on this but breakfast was 21 Euro's for a standard continental breakfast. Breakfast defiantly not worth 21 Euro's each.
Great location matched with professional and friendly staff.
The hotel felt rundown and ordinary for a four star. Needs a refurbishment. Bar and restaurant too expensive. Location is its saving grace.
Very friendly staff
Good spot for ferry with swimming pool and spa
One night stay before early start for ferry. Arrived on bicycles which were stored inside. Friendly staff and comfortable room. Swimming pool facilities are good.
Beautiful spa hotel right on sword beach. Several nice restaurants and bakeries within a ten minute walk from the hotel.
Great place to stay
Beachfront location in easy walking distance of good restaurants.
Would I go back
Breakfast was a little chaotic… certainly not worth €18 euro each. Definitely not relaxing start to day. But room was fine as was the spa. Couple of drinks each at bar £60 but steep. Would I go back …Yes. But no breakfast.
This was just what I was looking for to un plug. Lots of restaurants and stores nearby. Sea view room was excellent!
An excellent hotel in a prime beach-side location. Food in the restaurant was superb. However, the hotel is more suited to adults than families with young children.
Relaxing
Polite willing staff, Spa experience was superb
Thalasso weekend
The room was perfect except that someone does not know how to put doors on bathrooms...they opened in to the toilet which meant that you had to practically close the lid, climb up onto it and then shut the door...many of the jets in the Thalasso pool were out of order. It was explained that the site was older so things no longer functionned.
Quite underwhelming. Rooms were small- felt like being on a cruise ship. Location is tight on the beach but far from the DDay sights. It was way over priced- would not stay here again.
Nice hotel with unfriendly staff
The hotel is very nice, especially if you are interested in a spa experience. But staff is not friendly. Including front desk staff and dining room staff. Some are not even courteous.
Hotel lobby was beautiful. The room was okay. Expected a little bit more comfortable bed. Was a little hard, but I’m picky.
mark and lukes recent trip
Hotel was lovely, great location, staff generally friendly - restaurant menu limited and not really suitable for children - breakfast ok but overpriced
Disappointing.... The hotel & spa itself was nice, but the customer service was one of the worst we have ever experienced. From arrival we did not feel welcome, but decided to try the hotels restaurant at night where we were simply ignored. After taking about an hour to be offered a bread roll, we waited longer.... The food itself when it came was good, it was just unfortunate that we could not try any deserts as they stopped serving by the time we finished our mains. I would not recommend.
The hotel was very nice and had an excellent location on the beach. The service in the restaurant left a lot to be desired, we felt ignored, al the tables around us received bread, we did not, and we gave up waiting to be asked if we would like some dessert, which we did want but ended up not getting. The pool also closed very early, my wife was disappointed she was unable to have an evening swim.
Ok in Ouistreham
The hotel is nice, but dated. The rooms were comfortable, but as others have mentioned, the bathrooms need to be improved. There is essentially a shower and drain in the middle of the bathroom, with no shower doors such that the entire bathroom floor and gets wet when someone showers. Because of this, the bathroom floor was mildewed. There is a lovely view from the restaurant. The food was a bit overpriced and service was slow, even by French standards. The towels in the spa area are very small and not at all fluffy, as spa towels should be. Also beware if you are traveling with children that the pool is only open a few hours a day to children. Additionally, parking on site can be tricky. There is a lot, but it is apparently also used by the general public and full of cars of non-hotel guests.
A Normandy trip
Nice place near caen. Recommend caen memorial museum.Easy to drive around. Salt water pool is great.
Quaint, quiet stay
The hotel was located within walking distance of the beach and served as a great starting point for our Normandy Beaches vacation. The hotel concierge was accommodating and friendly. The room is smaller than expected and walking space was limited in the room.
Missed out on using great spa.
We did not get a chance to use spa and restaurant because hours were conducive to seeing sights and coming back to relax. Restaurant closed early. Spa opened late and closed early. Otherwise we liked everything very much.
Wonderful location on the beach perfect for catching the ferry two minutes from The port
so so hotel but close to beach
Location was difficult to get to but once you were there the beach was great. Hotel staff was not overly friendly and when we really needed help with an issue we had they let us down. Nice pool/whirlpool area but rooms could use some work. Towels are not clean and very small.
Brief stay due to cancelled ferry.
Very efficient and helpful staff and good, comfortable room. Restaurant closed rather early and rather expensive for what was offered, although food was very good.
One nighter with poor buffet
The hotel was easy to find and had good parking. It is a modern hotel. Reception was good and the room was clean and comfortable and the bathroom was very good - really a wetroom. Our problem was the restaurant. It was a seafood buffet. The fruits de mer were very good and we enjoyed this. The main courses were hot, but whenever I went up there was either no fish or no vegetables.left. This is always a problem with this buffet style service and with the cost of the meal we felt it was poor service. The hot food has either been in the chafers too long or is not available. We did not have breakfast as we were away early to catch a ferry.
Overnight stay whilst catching the Ferry
Excellent hotel, spotlessly clean comfortable rooms and very friendly and helpful staff. We will definitely stay there when we're next in the area
Did not meet 4* expectations
A bit run down and just not what I expected based in the star rating and guest rating.
Impressed traveller
Loved everything about our stay, we would have loved to stay longer if we could, we will be recommending this hotel to our travel agent so he can pass is along to other travellers, I would definitely come back, but would come in August when everything is open.
Nice hotel with a few issues
The hotel is situated by the beach, seafront and nearby pedestrianised centre of Ouistreham. The streets and other parking areas around the hotel are all pay and display and, being next to the national liberation memorial and almost opposite the No4 Commando Museum, it attracts a lot of visitors. Whilst the hotel car park is free it does not have restricted access and parking spaces can become scarce at certain times of the day. The hotel is also only about 5 minutes from the Caen/Ouistreham ferry terminal and is a useful site for a short break at the end of a French holiday. The double room was small (there was a case stand but no room to deploy it) and the decor spoiled by cheap white Melomine fitted cupboards. Whilst it was good to have a separate wc and shower room the lavatory was very small with an inward opening door that almost touched the toilet bowl when opening making exiting the room difficult. Access to the room was via a flight of 3 narrow stairs at the end of the first floor corridor, which caused some difficulty to my wife, who suffers with arthritis and the promised "town view" was a view of air conditioning units on an adjoining flat roof. However the bed was comfortable, the staff friendly and helpful and the restaurant good although it would have been nice to be able to purchase some more 'snacky ' food at the bar (e.g. cake, sandwiches in the afternoon), although more substantial food was available there at lunchtime and evenings.
A nice place to stay in Normandy
We did not get to make much use of this hotel due to our late arrival and early departure the following morning. It was a short walk from Ouistreham's main business district and we were able to walk to and from dinner in a short period of time.
Nice hotel in a good location. Staff service poor
This is a hotel for the French only. It was very clear that they never had Americans stay with them and that they were not happy with the fact that we were there. The staff was rude and condescending. If you're French, I highly recommend. If you are American, steer clear and find somewhere else to stay. The food and room were good. The hotel was in a nice location right off the beach.
Great
A very nice hotel, close to the beach. Great salt water indoor pool.Good breakfast overlooking the beach. Free parking. Close to shops, restaurants, giant wheel and casino. When we got the room we noticed that it hasn't been prepared. This was quickly solved and we got another room with a better view. Check your bill when checking out: they tried to charge us 170 Eu for a dinner we never had.
Great overnight stay
Perfect overnight stay after long drive to ferry port.Would like to have stayed longer.Enjoyed relaxing swim and spa facilities, very nice meal in restaurant though little bit expensive.Staff most pleasant.
Nice hotel, great location for D Day exploration
Hotel was a business hotel with a market for recouperation. It was on Sword (D Day) beach and nearby there were a few interesting restaurants and some key WW2 battle sites. The hotel itself was functional, room service was good although the concierge function left a great deal to be desired.
Location was decent, food wasn't
Bathroom was separated; small toilet area (wasn't clean) & tall tub base with shower (not safe for older people). There were no wash cloths. Had lunch there, but it wasn't good. There are several good places to eat within walking distance. Staff was nice. Recommend private tour of D-Day Memorial. 65 Euros per person. Find information at Information desk nearby hotel by boardwalk - tour was excellent! Overall o.k. for the price. We would stay in Juno area next time.
Next to Juno Memorial. Good location.
My only problem was my inability to understand French. Your desk people were very helpful. The food was good. We did not use the facilities other than the bar since our main objective was the D-Day celebrations.
Modern hotel, great pool and close to the ferry
We stayed at the Hotel Riva Bella for one night before catching an early ferry from the port nearby. The reception staff were great and the hotel is extremely clean and modern, seemingly having been very recently refurbished. Our room was fairly small, but had everything we needed, including a very comfortable bed. The health club was fantastic, and provided towels, robes and slippers. The pool was great, and although I didn't use the other facilities they looked good. There are a few good restaurants nearby, and the beach is located directly on a wide sandy beach. I would have no doubt about recommending this hotel, and will definitely stay here next time I am getting an early ferry back to Portsmouth.
Great overnight stay
Fantastic night stay....comfy bed good choice of hot drinks in the room....fabulous breakfast
Ideal stopover for ferry travellers.
Perfect location for overnight stop when using the ferry although negotiating the road system in Ousitreham when we arrived from the UK was a challenge! Hotel a good standard. Breakfast not cheap but high quality and excellent choice. Restaurant staff pleasant, helpful, efficient. Dinner was good although portion size on the small side - especially the fish gougons. A couple of minor niggles - room signage confusing for the room we were allocated (191). Tea and coffee making facilities much appreciated but no milk!
Ideal place to stay before a ferry crossing
We have stayed at Hotel Riva Bella a couple of times, normally before a Ferry crossing to the UK. The hotel is clean and well situated. It has a pool and plenty of space to sit and relax. There is a reasonable amount of parking, it is if 5 mins from the ferry port. We did not eat the the hotel this time, but went for a walk early in the evening an ate in one of the local restaurants.
Horrid experience. More like a 2 star hotel
Definitely not a 4 star hotel (who did they pay to get this rating?!). Most of the facilities need a definite clean (they are orange!). Would never ever ever ever stay here again.
nice hotel pretty much on the beach
easy late check in my details were already on the desk awaiting my late arrival. room a bit small but ok. staff all polite and smiling and attentive
Perfect retreat
Quiet location and tranquil surroundings. Excellent facilities in house. Positioned well for cycle and road access to the historical sites of the Normandy coast.
nothing special
Wouldn't view as four star, rooms where grubby, restaurant was ok, nothing special. Breakfast was overpriced and nothing like the picture on website
breakfast service was good apart from promptly replenishing food on the buffet
Great experience
2nights stay ..great hotel for a short break .Room was great and it's in a great place for visiting the WW2 beaches .
Comfortable hotel near ferries and beach
After a long car journey from the south west of France - a first class welcome from pleasant staff.
Overpriced and Under serviced.
When we arrived at 10-45pm I asked at reception if I could get a beer. The receptionist went to the bar area and asked the staff there and the answer was,"NO". The room had tea and coffee making facilities, but no milk.I went to reception and asked for some. I was told to go to the kitchen and ask there. The person there finally gave me some. The room was very ordinary and that, together with the lack of service made me feel that my one night stay at 111Euros was not value for money. We will not use this hotel again.
Excellent location close to feryyport
We wanted a hotel close to the ferryport because our ferry arrived late in the evening. Riva Bella was ideal; just a few minutes away. The hotel was fine, the room was comfortable, the breakfast good with plenty of choice. It was very close to the seafront. Would happily stay there again - and you can't say better than that!
good hotel for our visits to d.day beaches
it was an excellent hotel for accomadation and cleanliness. views were fantastic. cannot comment on the food because we never ate in their restaurant, very expensive. all around the hotel and in their town centre are lots of restaurants. very nice and cheaper. not much to do there unless you have the weather and can go on the beautiful and well kept beach. we went by car so we could explore the d day beaches and memorials and it was better than we expected.
modern hotel close to D-day memoribilia
went in july august great weather toured D-day beaches etc exhausting was very glad to get back to hotel and enjoy good service and relaxing swim in the sea water pool fantastic sp-a facilities
very comfortable
A lovely, very comfortable very clean hotel. Its close proximity to the town and next to the beach were a real bonus.
Excellent location in a scenic village. Nice facilities right on the beach. Pleasant staff. Good base to visit Normandy area.
Good hotel good location
Excellent hotel, excellent location, excellent service. Quiet peaceful atmosphere.
Great Hotel - Got the Lot
Unearthed a real gem of a hotel, has everything you could ask for, I had originally booked into well known chain but known to be a little soulless & wanted something close to Sword Beach - well this is on it! Immaculate Rooms,Really Helpful Staff, onsite Spa, swimming pool, free onsite parking (secure for bikes), Didn't use Restaurant so can't comment but looked really nice. Highly Recommended!
Parfait . Les employés sont tous très gentils
A recommander
Bra läge men ingen fyrstjärnig upplevelse!
A renouveler
WE agréable
Good Journey
Very good hotel, well located in a calm area by the sea, with a very nice spa opened all day long until 7:45pm. The restaurant is a bit overpriced.
Would stay again
Had an enjoyable stay here. The restaurant was very good and also the bar snacks. Lovely pool although crowded when we visited in November. Very close to the port so perfect for an overnight stay before the early morning ferry. Would stay again.
