Charming colonial house
Great location near main square. Ingredibly willing and friendly staff. They prepared for us early brakfast at 6.30 althought it normaly starts at 8 am. Self sevice kitchen with tea and coffee (with a fee).
Great location, very helpful staff and ownership
Lecated in the center of Quito, at walking distance from most of the historic attractions, restaurants and shopping
Very convenient!
Very friendly and helpful staff. Will help in any way for any reason. If one wants to sight-see, they will organize your trip as you please. Will even find a taxi to airport! Been to the Equator! They made the arrangements!
Nice Hotel. Very friendly ,close to amenities
I'd recommend this hotel , Alicia was very friendly and help me with all my tours questions . She really makes me feel at home
Nice hotel, about right for the price
Friendly staff, good breakfast and in walking distance from all the must see places in the "old town."
Convenient location, big rooms
We had a private room with two beds, and there was plenty of space for two of us and our luggage. The location is very central to Old Town, but that means it is very loud. The windows are old (like they are in every other building in this city) so all of the noise comes in from the busy pedestrian street. You would be hard pressed to find a quite hotel in this city though, so I can't fault this place for being a bit loud. The hostel itself was very quiet inside, we never heard other people being loud or partying. Breakfast was simple but good (eggs and toast with fresh juices, coffee and tea). There is also a very cool balcony that offers incredible city views. The location is great if you want to explore all of the Old Town by foot. Staff was great about helping us organize taxis to the airport and bus stations. Be prepared though - only some of the staff speaks English. Mateo was awesome and helped us with pretty much everything!
good attentive staff
good attentive staff
great area, great owner
owner is very attentive
Clean, family-run hotel in the historical district
I thought Matteus and his family did an excellent job, were very accommodating to the guests, were eager to give advice and suggestions to make my trip more enjoyable. I actually extended my stay, and will be staying here when I retrun to Quito
This is a solid choice in the Centro district. It's in a good location, is secure and they provide a good breakfast.
Great hotel right in the historical center
The staff were great and easy to communicate with both before and during my stay. The location of the hotel was perfect for exploring the historical center of Quito. My room could have used some simple cosmetic upgrades, but it was very comfortable, and the hotel itself is beautiful. The free breakfast was also delicious and substantial.
Amazing hotel!!!!
Love it
Best place to stay in Quito historic district
Excellent, affordable, would happily stay there again!
Fantastic location
Fantastic location. Major landmarks, parks, churches, Presidental Palace, etc. are just 3-6 blocks away. The staff are excellent. Extremely accommodating and ready to help. Alberto, owner/manager, made us feel like family members. Will certainly stay there on our next visit.
Location is Everything
There is not a better location in Quito historic district than this hotel. We enjoyed touring the area with clear directions given by Alberto who was attentive and seemed to be on duty at all times.
Well located, good value
As hostals go it is pretty comfortable and clean located in a charming 18century Spanish town house. The family rooms are spacious and good value for families and groups traveling together. Single/double rooms are OK for clean basic accommodation. Good breakfast and manager is multi-lingual, kind and helpful. Excellent central location though it can be noisy outside until late.
Welcoming staff, in Historic Center
Staff were helpful and friendly. No safe in room, but lockers available which we used for several days between stays when we were outside the city. Street noise tolerable and allowed us to wake and see a procession to one of the nearby churches one early morning. Breakfasts were generous, and staff graciously served us ahead of usual hours on several morning when we had early plans.
Great stay in a charming family room - the smaller rooms did not look as cute, the the overall experience was great and hosts were super helpful!
Excellent location in the Historic Area
We had excellent service at this lodging. The hosts speak English, Spanish and Portugese and were friendly and helpful with arrangements, choosing a taxi, translating. They have storage facilities, a good breakfast including eggs, toasted buns, fruit, juice, coffee and tea. There is a computer for guest use. . Laundry service available on site. Thanks Quito Cultural for going out of your way to make our stay pleasant. Loved the artwork.
Right in the middle of historic district
We were able to get a room that fit our family of 6. We were on the 3rd floor so have to carry all of our luggage up which for our first day in higher altitude proved more difficult than we'd like. The gentleman that checked us in tho helped us. We walked in town and found a CNT store to get our SIM chips. These have proved to be very good. The next morning we enjoyed a nice breakfast and the kids gave it two thumbs up - loved the chocolate milk and we loved the coffee. They arranged for our pickup to go back to airport and helped get our bags down and on the van. They also walked us to a store where we had to figure out an issue with our receipt for the CNT SIM card loading. Very helpful. Offered to make copy of passport and told us it was better to keep a copy with us but our original at home. You need to show your passport if using credit card.
The staff made the hotel a sure-to-return favorite for me, it is also perfectly situated in the historic city centre for seeing everything. The staff arranged for all our onwards travel cheerfully.
Amazing staff and location. Nice ambiance
Amazing staff and location. Nice ambiance and view from the 2nd floor. Had some issues with hot water running out fairly fast.
Nice hotel
Very friendly staff
Pleasant Hostel in Old Quito
Great location. Hosts are helpful and friendly. Comfortable room. Overall a very pleasant stay. Would recommend to anyone looking for this type of lodging.
Quito Hostal
Small well located hotel. Best thing about this place is the staff. They are very helpful.
Nice hostal
This is a very good hostal near Plaza Grande. It is very easy to get to any of the city attractions from here. Taxi ride to Teleferico is about $4.00, to Basilica is $2.00. The owner is very nice and attentive.
Perfect location
Lovely family establishment, great breakfast- a different freshly squeezed juice every day. Big old building with nice roof top. Perfect location- very quiet after 8pm.
Great cozy place right next to Plaza Grande
The owner and workers here make this place incredible. The owner speaks English, French, Spanish and Portuguese! And he is incredibly friendly and helpful! We had a bus to the Amazon leaving at 11pm at night and he let us stay at the Hostal until we needed to leave. The rooms are cozy and the beds are comfy. It's very reassuring that the front door is locked and you need to buzz to get in, it makes it feel very safe. The inner yard of the building has hammocks and sofas to sit in. He is now making dorms ready for November as at the moment it's only privates and we looked in at them and they look really great. Highly recommended!
Great location, wonderful friendly staff.
Hotel is in an excellent location right in the center of the historic district. Guests are buzzed in by staff so very secure. Good breakfast- Ecuador standard- fresh juice, bread, cheese, fruit salad or eggs. Hotel is a little worn and hot water is limited unless you shower at off-times, but what makes this hotel special is the excellent, caring, helpful staff. We stayed there three times in a trip of 16 days, and they kept luggage for us when we did trips out of Quito. Wifi is good in the central atrium where you can sit on comfy couches, less so in the rooms. Overall great stay
Excellent!
Very knowledgable and friendly staff, helped us arrange tours and transportation at a good price. Excellent location (Historic part of the city). Good price. Breakfast available. Wifi in the rooms. I would most definitely stay there again!
excellent location, easy access
The hostel is excellent in tens of access up all the things in CENTRO HISTORICO. Easy walking access to all the main plazas, churches and Plaza Grande. Curtious staff, very beautiful layout and colorful. Highly recommend it.
Great location
Nice hostal with very helpful staff. our room was very small but just unlucky I think. Great location in the Historic center.
Hidden jewel Quito
First things first, the staff. Alicia is the owner and runs this place. Ever since my booking she contacted me to help me in whichever way she could, and she did! The breakfast is served by herself, and she would not hesitate in keeping you company and share stories, as well as giving you the best advice one could ask for regarding places to visit and whatnot. The Hostal is super cozy and decorated in a beautiful, rustic way, and the rooms are super clean. I already have my place to stay for any other future visits to Quito, won't even consider other places.
Good place to stay in a great location.
Simple guesthouse in a great location in the old town. Great breakfast and helpful staff. Ask for help with the hot water. The rooms on the street suffer a little from the noise. Good value.
Great for families in Quito
Great stay. Very central to everything. We had a quad family room which was very spacious. Shower was great. Beds were comfortable. This place is completely central to Old Town part of Quito. Alicia bent over backwards to try and make sure we had everything that we needed.
Clasic Hostal in the Historic Center
This Hostel is located in the Historic Center. It seems to be a safe area, close to the government house of the President. All buildings in the area are old buildings probably from the beginning of the 20th Century, but it is well maintained. Lot of small shopping centers around at walking distances. Alice, the owner/manager is all time in charge and she tries to take care of you at all so you wont have any frustration for being there. The breakfast is included and acceptable for the price you pay per day.
Fantastic hostel, great value
The location just 2 blocks from the Plaza de Armas is great. This hostel has books, guitars, games, hammock, free laundry and breakfast included. The rooms are simple and the beds aren't the comfiest ever, but it's clean and the staff are friendly. I loved staying here.
Pretty, convenient hotel at a great value
Hostal Quito Cultural was a nice surprise for the low cost. The rooms are decorated simply but bright and airy. Staff is very friendly
Great Hotel in historical center of Quito
This was a great place to spend our holiday weekend. The staff were very friendly and helpful in making our stay a memorable one. The location was excellent with various restaurants nearby, the complimentary breakfast was very good and flavorful. There was plenty of historical sites, shopping and churches within walking distance.
Recommended Hostal in the Old Town
As others have said, Alicia the owner is lovely and really helpful. This is a clean and lovely hostal in walking distance from all the sights of the Old Town.
Great location just two blocks from Plaza Grande
When you visit Old Town (and if you are in Quito, you MUST), this is a great place to stay. It is centrally located and in a safe location if you wish to go out at night. Rates are a little high when compared to the States, but not, I suppose, for this particular location and in a major city. Breakfast is nothing special.
Too long in Quito
We did appreciate being able to check in early, as our flight arrived at 4:30 in the morning. However, right outside our room, for 4 days straight, from 8:00am until 8:00pm was a massive reconstruction of the deck, was unbelieveably noisy! Walls between the rooms are really thin and the hot water was sporadic at best. Breakfast was boring and repetitious, comparing what we are receiving in Mindo. I guess the location was good, if, you can shut out the noise coming from the vendors below.
Beautiful hostel within historic distric
Alicia goes out of her way to make everyone feel at home in this charmingly beautiful hostel. The location is right on a main walking avenue to Plaza Grande, a 10 minute walk to the basilica and a $5 cab ride to the virgin that overlooks the city. As a young person traveling alone it would have been nice to meet other solo young people but most of the occupants were couples and families.
Great place to stay!
I stayed for 8 days at this hostal when I really wanted to just stay one day but the location, security, and the service kept me there longer. I work in the travel industry and I have stayed in many places around the world, I will keep it short and sweet, this place is safe, is in the heart of what i consider the most historical part of Quito, and its a wonderful atmosphere.
Good Location
Close to Plaza Grande & the old center. Secure entry. Quiet at night.
Convieniant to old section of city.
Landed after long flight at 2am on a Sunday morning, grateful that the hostel transfer was waiting for us. Couldn't wait to get to bed, but didn't get much sleep as we had been placed in a room that was above the street- very noisy from early, even on a Sunday! Staff moved us to far side room, which was much quieter, and more room too. Staff were very helpful with various advice, and friendly too. Have let our bags there for our return from Galapolis Islands - will let you know if there are still there!
Nice hotel, great location, but NOISY
The hotel has a nice courtyard and is centrally located in the Centro Historico (Old Town) of Quito. Our room was clean, and the beds were comfortable. The WiFi was fast. However, it was the noisiest hotel we've ever stayed in because of street noise. Our room was perched right over a narrow street that carried honking motorbikes, screeching buses, and roaring streetcleaners in the middle of the night. We barely slept, even with earplugs.
Centrally Located Hotel With Great Staff
I choose this hotel after finding out it was really in the middle of the historic center of Quito. From there, most of the important places are at walking distance (Plaza Grande, Basílica del Voto Nacional, Iglesia de la Compañía de Jesús to name a few). The neighborhood/surroundings are safe and with facilities nearby like small cafes, ATM's, supermarkets. I also liked a lot the balcony my room had facing a pedestrian street. The view was really nice, surrounded by quite old but nice buildings. Some people complain that this pedestrian street is quite loud at nights but I did not have any problems sleeping. The owner, Alicia Vega is really lovely and takes care of you as if you were her child. She will gladly assist you with any matter or advise.
Excellent staff
We originally booked to stay 2 nights, thinking we would find a better place for the remaining 3 nights of our stay in Quito. We never left. We spent the rest of our nights at this hotel. It was very comfortable in the rooms and had a great location. The biggest reason we stayed was the staff was so friendly and hospitable, it felt like we were staying with family.
Nice hotel. Great location!
Was able to visit Presidential area and all other shops and points of interest.
Staff was very friendly and they provided laundry service,
Central hotel
Right in the centre of the old city so easy to get around, and close to the bus interchange and metro stops. Taxis stop right outside and easy to flag down - staff helped with getting a better price. Good clean room with great city views from the courtyard. Good breakfast and quick laundry. Very very helpful staff - they made the place. You need to be buzzed in all day and the outer door is locked at dusk so felt safe in the hotel at all times. Went to La Mariscal for a few hours and really not for me (just bars, clubs, travel agents and restaurants) so if you want a decently priced hotel in an interesting area this is a good choice.
Nice, homey hostel
This unassuming hostel was a pleasant surprise. Its staff, though very informal, were very welcoming and interested in making our stay a pleasant one. Rooms were very, very clean and simple. The location was excellent: close to major museums and other city venues, many at a walking distance.
Cheap, quaint hotel, excellent location
Small hotel built around a planted garden courtyard. Could use a little repainting, but very colourful decor with local paintings everywhere, and something new to look at in every corner. Facilities are basic and the furniture unpolished, but the bed was comfortable and the location right in the middle of the historic centre cannot be surpassed. Fabulous views from my bedroom window on the second floor (third floor for the Americans). I had asked the hotel by email to provide a pick-up service from the airport (they charge $30 for this), but nobody had a card with my name when I arrived. There is a HATS shuttle service to hotels in the airport foyer that takes you to the door, and they charged me only $25, so it worked out okay. Each time I emailed the hotel, a different employee replied, so I think there is a communication issue in this small, family-owned business.
Close to everything!
This is a lovely hostel! The accommodations are perfect particularly for a one or two night stay. The owner is a delightful woman. She was very helpful in all aspects. My only complaint is that it was noisy while I was trying to sleep. However it was great to be so close to restaurants and the historic district.
In the heart of Old Colonial Quito
Great and helpfull staff! with lots of knowledge of Quito and the surrounding Andean highland pueblos and areas
Locational is close to center
None of the staffs speaks English, and I don't speak Spanish. Difficult to get things around due to communication problem.
This was a fun place to stay. It definitely had a lot of culture to it. The shower was the best we stayed in on our trip to Ecuador. The temperature and pressure stayed the same the whole time. My only complaint was with some of the staff. While checking in, they kept pushing us to the side to help new customers who entered. After checking out, we were waiting for a cab for about an hour. Initially they said we could sit in the lobby to wait, but they were all talking to each other about how unhappy they were that we were waiting (I don't think they realized we spoke spanish and could understand them).
Beautiful courtyard
I was impressed by the courtyard which all rooms enter from. Amazing flowers and plants everywhere, I felt like I could hang out there all day, very peaceful. The rooms were very small, hard to move around. Pictures on the website make rooms look larger. So, so on cleanliness of the room. Housekeeping didn't come by the clean one day. My key didn't always work to lock my door on the way out. I did feels safe as a young woman traveling alone as you need to be buzzed in to enter the hotel. I enjoyed my small balcony that looked on the busy street below, which played music loudly until 9pm. Great location for walking to nearby churches and for shopping. I found many cute markets close by and lots of places to eat. The airport taxi runs 24 hours which was helpful getting in at odd hours, and was very friendly, clean and safe.
Location couldn't be better,
It started with emails saying that although we booked a double oom for two adults at $35/night, that was the single peson ate and it really would be $58/night. No credit cad accepted. The person working there - we never met the owner - seemed put out to have us there, which is inconvenient because the door to the hostal is kept locked and you have to ring the bell to get let in. The inner courtyard is nice, a great view of the city and some funky couches to sit on and admire the view inside as well as out. The location couldn't be better as it is in the middle of the old city and walking distance to a thousand churches. It was pretty clean, but no little shampoos or things like that.
Nicely located in the old part but no quite rooms
We were attracted by a special offer via Expedia for 1 room, 2 pax . Offer was confirmed via Expedia. At the time we arrived at the Hotel, the Manager denied that the confirmation is valid and that the offer is only good for 1 person (she claims 'it's a mistake'). Because of late arrival we decided to stay but were charged 58USD instead of agreed 35USD , per night and room , 2 pax. breakfast is not amazing compared with similar hotels in Ecuador / Quito. We were able to do late check-out for add'l 10USD.
Great hotel to visit the old Quito
It is a great place to stay if you plan to visit the old Quito and that you are only looking for a place to rest. There's not a lot of things to do, small rooms, a small TV... However, there's hot water, good breakfast and a nice view from the last floor.
Great for a few days to see Quito
Ethnic and comfortable in convenient place. I loved the relaxed surroundings and the owner / manager was friendly and helpful.
Convinent and safe choice in Old Town Quito
I'd recommend this place for someone who is looking for basic accommodation on a budget. It is what it is, as in, it's no Hilton. The staff was friendly and tries really hard to be helpful. The staff doesn't speak much English. Actually must of Ecuador don't speak much English, so it's really my fault for not knowing Spanish. Even with the language barrier, everyone tried to be helpful. I only gave cleanliness "OK" because the hardwood floor is dirty - I couldn't/wouldn't walk on it with my bare feet. But everything else is very clean. I gave it an "ok" for its overall rating, which is fine for the price. I booked this accommodation pretty much with this expectation in mind. The one thing I'd like to mention is that I like this place because of it's location and I felt very safe during my stay. There are a couple of things that you should be aware of. First, the hot water is hit or miss. The first day, it was really hot, the 2nd day it was cold, the 3rd day I told them about the lack of hot water and they turned it back on (?!), then the 4th day a different lady gestured for me to wait a while for the water to get hot - but only got to lukewarm. Second, I wish when I asked them to call me a taxi, they actually calls me a real taxi and not some guy that drives a pick up truck. I actually just wanted a regular taxi to take me to the airport and not their "shuttle service" that charges more than what taxis are allowed to charge.
One big problem...
The location is good...right in the historic center and close to bus lines. There are also some restaurants nearby. The staff is very nice. The room was comfortable. The one complaint I have is their airport transfer service. I had to leave at 4am for the airport for an early flight. They arranged for the taxi to come at 4am, and even verified the price, but at 4am, 405, 410, 415 am..no taxi showed up. And there were no employees to be found anywhere. I had to go out into the street at 4am and flag down a taxi. Luckily I got one and made it on time, but I found the whole thing very unprofessional.
There are better choices for the price
Hotel is OK. But 2 main things we didn't like: no hot water except in the morning and had to stay and wait sometimes few minutes at a time for them to open the door into hostel from the street. Once spent 15 minutes outside in the middle of the night waiting for them to open. Hotel is OK but i think there are better choices in old town.
First time Quito visitor
It is in a great location in the historical district. The staff are friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good.
Great hostal for a family, very laid back!
We really enjoyed the hostal, the owner and staff are great. This is a family type hostal, very laid back. The room was great for the price. Down the block were rooms for 5 times as much. This hostal is simple and traditional. We will recommend this hostal to anyone and everyone, and we will use it again the next time we go to Quito Ecuador.
OK but some reservations:cold shower!
Excellent location 2 blocks from main square. The area is very safe, but be warned: everything shuts down about 6 at night! Dining options are limited. The owner is friendly and speaks excellent English; however, she did not understand the phrase '20 past 6' when I tried to organise a taxi to the airport, and nearly booked one for 11.40 instead; I suggest writing the time down to be sure there is no miscommunication. Nice breakfast of eggs, coffee, juice. A few problems: I was there for 2 nights and had 1 hot and 1 cold shower. Personally, a cold shower when I am paying hotel rates is completely unacceptable. When I arrived, the room I was shown was obviously occupied by someone else; when I notified to owner she assured me this was not possible, so I brought her up to the room to show her the evidence! She then showed me 2nd room but the lights did not work; the 3rd room was fine. All this was a very minor inconvenience to me, but suggests that she didn't really know what was going on. The hotel is on a corner of a pedestrianised street & another road that seems to be limited to buses. This means taxis cannot come directly to the hotel. The 1st day I was dropped 2 blocks away; this was fine for me (although it was steep walk!), but might be of concern if you are elderly or travelling with kids. The last day I was concerned as I didn't really want to walk a block very early in the morning to meet my taxi; but the driver very kindly came and met me at the hotel.
A New Experience
The hostel was adequate for staying a few nights, but somewhat difficult to get to for even the locals, especially with the streets closed because they were being paved so we had to walk a block with our lugguage. We were told that the neighborhood can be dangerous for tourists, but we didn't have any problems. Sundays will find you looking for a place to eat as most businesses are closed. Service and comfort were adequate as well as the free breakfast.
Excellent
The only issue is that I note is that sometime the don't have hot water in the bathroom. The rest is excellent.
Nice hostel!
Excellent overall and very few complaints! One block away from the Presidential Palace so very central to many events, resturants, shopping, and people. Free wifi. Breakfast is simple (juice, bread, fruit, small omelet) and healthy. We stayed in a quad room and it was very roomy and clean and had a balcony. TV didn't work so well but no big deal. Daily bed making and clean towels (thin, motel type towels). Manager and staff were friendly and helpful but no one will strong English skills. Very secured with locked door all the time. Curfew at 11pm though. Not enough hooks in the room. Curtains very thin so light came through by early morning. But overall, we really enjoyed our stay...would definitely recommend!
met all expectations
Great location! We had a room with three beds, all comfortable and clean. The view from our window was amazing. You can see the Winged Virgin statue on the left, the Basilica del Voto Nacional on the right and a church bell tower in front of us. They even allowed us the use of their washer and dryer as we were to spend another week in the Galapagos.

It was an awesome stay! Close to the places I wanted to go!
