overall it was good but just one night, the room was only partially cleaned..

Breakfast was excellent. Loved the French toast and raisin bread. Close to trams which go everywhere .

Comfortable affordable stay

Comfortable stay in the heart of Melbourne CBD. I liked the eco friendly nature of the room eg. Separate recycling bin. Breakfast was included which was great. Good price

I booked a 3 night stay at this hotel the weekend a cyclone was scheduled to hit my home. The airlines were fantastic and rebooked us to the following weekend with no issue. When we contacted the hotel to reschedule or cancel my booking, the hotel said no. Every time I try to call the hotel front desk to speak to someone, I end up on hold indefinitely and nobody picks up. It's been 6 days and no response from them. I'm very disappointed. I am posting a review of my terrible experience with this hotel, and I hope nobody else has to go through this frustration like this.

The lift plays up. It needs some proper programming. Breakfast is really good.

Comfy well equipped rooms, yummy generous breakfast (although the eggs tasted rehydrated), fantastic walkable location and friendly staff. Parking was easy too however you access the garage from the alleyway behind.

Cleaning needs to be done properly and if possible please leave couple of small water bottles in the rooms. Apart from that it was amazing… staff 5 star 😊

Great location walking distance to shops, main road and attractions liked the low deposit on check in compared to other places and free breakfast was a bonus. In room dining I didn’t mind having to come and collect myself- the cost cutting is reflected in the overall low price :) Only issue I had was outside on the street overflowing rubbish bins smelly and inconvenient :(

Thoroughly enjoyed my stay at this property. From check in to checkout nothing was a problem for the staff here. They were all warm and welcoming the facilities were clean and well maintained. The rooms very clean,comfortable and added safety feature on the door which was a great addition.

The room was well equipped for a comfortable stay. The location was excellent, within walking distance to SkyBus (airport bus) and to most of the tourist attractions. The staff was lovely. The breakfast was very basic and could have been better but the restaurant staff was very accommodating

Great hotel

The room was comfortable and had everything you would need for a hotel stay. However, my room was facing the train station and it was quiet at night but every morning the noise from the trains woke me up before 6 am. The breakfast was very basic and didn't offer much for vegetarians. However, they did have gluten free bread. The staff, both at the hotel and restaurant, was lovely. A good stay overall. I will probably stay here again when I come back but will ask for a room facing in the opposite directions.

Housekeeping not thorough as liquid shampoo ran out after we check in n not refill. The room complimentary teas not refill. The towels change not complete. Had only one cleaning as request but missing face towels.

The ac didnt work on the last night and the gym was not very good with limited weights.Bfast was poor .The front desk didnt answer phone on 4 ocassions when I called from room and I had to actually go down.This was a 1st for me.Room was also not cleaned properly with dust on shelves ect !! Very dissapointed with this hotel after staying in many IHG hotels in the past.

This hotel can't be beat for so many reasons but there are some unique features that you should be warned about. First, the good: The location is great. It is right downtown, walkable to everything and within steps of every type of public transportation, including a half block from the the Southern Cross hub that is the destination point for SkyBus, a direct line from and to Melbourne's airport. The staff was super approachable and helpful. It is clean and quiet. The breakfast was outstanding, providing many choices with an abundance of delicious food. Now about the quirks: as you walk through the glass entry doors on the ground floor, you'll find a well-appointed hallway with a sitting area . . . but no reception. Tiny signs tell you to go to the second floor using one of four elevators. Believe me, everyone misses the signs, they need big block letter signs directing you to the second floor. The bathrooms in each room are essentially smoked glass enclosures that provide no light or noise barrier. So if you don't mind a complete lack of privacy in the bathroom, the arrangement can work for you. . . . . but not for most people, including couples of over thirty years. Watch out for the elevators, they sometimes require you to use your key card to operate and not infrequently, you'll find yourself whizzing many floors past your room before you break the code. We highly recommend this hotel because the pluses far outweigh the minuses but beware of the quirks

Comfortable stay, excellent location

Room was comfortable, spacious and clean. Hotel was in a convenient location and it was super easy to move around. Some guests were noisy in the common areas but on the room floors it was not an issue.

We was disappointed with the hotel. Had a 4 night stay here after a month travelling from Perth. The way the beds are made are inappropriate for a good night's sleep. A bottom sheet is used on a plastic covered mattress but only just fits the bed and is not able to tuck in, so moves around all night. The quilt is not put in a quilt cover, instead it is put between 2 sheets, again which move around during the night and don't stay together. All this led to 4 bad nights of sleep. The breakfast was average, for 2 days 1coffee machine wasn't working leading to a 15 min queue for a coffee

We had a great stay at the holiday inn. We loved the location and the rooms were simple but had everything we needed. The parking was really easy and convenient and the free breakfast was wonderful!

Beds and Pillows Uncomfortable

Excellent housekeeping and modern, clean rooms and bathrooms. Limited amenities. Bed and pillows were very uncomfortable. Free buffet breakfast was not to my liking. Scrambled eggs were awful and put me off trying anything else at the buffet. Stayed three nights but only tried the breakfast once. But the hotel is very generous to offer the amount of free breakfast food items to their guests. Guest service was also nice and check-in and check-out was easy. But would not stay again due to the beds and pillows being so uncomfortable.

Our1st room airconditioner not working. 2nd room the phone didn't have a cable, not connected. This was advised to a staff member who stated will arrange to have this looked at. No one attended. I also had to make several trips to diinig area to collect dinner as i couldn't be contacted due to the phone not working. Very disappointed.

Great location and within five minutes walk of Southern Cross Station. Good value for money, quiet, clean and friendly staff. Easy to walk, get the tram or train into the Centre of town. About an 18 minute walk from Flinders Street Station. I would gladly stay at the hotel again.

I really enjoyed my stay for three nights. Breakfast was included in the room cost which was awesome. My room was clean and modern. The room was a little small and the bed a little hard and there were no wine glasses in the room. That is the only negative comment I have. Staff were great. The location is fantastic. I recommend Holiday Inn Express and I would stay there again

Not enough air conditioning

Fine stay, room clean and tidy. Breakfast was nice but hot food mostly cold each morning. Early check in request completely ignored which was disappointing, despite multiple staff telling me it would be ok, room wasn’t ready till just before 3pm.

Always good staying here for convenience

I recently stayed at this hotel and unfortunately, my experience was not as pleasant as I had hoped. The rooms are standard, which is fine, but there were a couple of significant issues that detracted from our stay. One major concern was the frosted glass bathroom walls. While they may look modern and save space, they do not offer any privacy if you are sharing the room with someone. We found ourselves having to shower with the bathroom lights off just to maintain some sort of privacy, which was an inconvenience. Additionally, the bathroom had an unpleasant odour, and it was clear that the shower drain needed some cleaning attention. These cleanliness issues further impacted our experience and made our stay less enjoyable. Overall, I would suggest considering other options if privacy and cleanliness are important to you during your hotel stay.

Enjoyed that it was easy walking distance to CBD, South Bank and public transport. Hotel was modern and clean, breakfast was better than we expected.

Everything was superb great place to stay

I enjoyed staying at this property especially because it is centrally located near lots of shopping, restaurants and transportation - all within a less than 10 minute walk. The tram is just down the street and there was free service to the Australian Open tennis tournament! The complimentary breakfast was good and I want to highlight dining room staff member Sajee. She was quite pleasant and interacted well with the guests while never being distracted from her job. I stayed at the hotel for 8 days and quickly became used to seeing her smiling face each morning! I appreciated that there was self serve laundry on site and it's reasonably priced at $2/load. For these reasons and more, I'll be returning🤗

Property is only 5 minutes walk from Southern Cross Station and just round the corner from the circular route free tram. Lots of eating and drinking places within 5 minute walk.

Great location next to transport and shops. The room was very quiet with a great view from floor 26. The room was also bright and spacious. The free breakfast was very basic.

Convenient clean good service

I had a great 1-night stay here! I booked the Harbour view 1 bedroom suite and it was everything I could ask for & more :)) I did book it at a discounted rate so it added to my overall review as original price is quite expensive however they do not disappoint with the view & size of the place. Highly recommend!!

Great property,great location, how ever after 3 weeks still waiting for my deposit to be returned.

Good location within reasonable walking distance of restaurants and central areas. Large impersonal hotel. We booked a package that included underground parking, which was easy to access once we knew how (entry was at the back of the hotel. On arrival, one of us had to go up to reception on the 2nd floor to get details). Comfortable room - although quite small it had everything we needed. We changed to a room with a king bed as the two single beds were very small and not the large twin beds we were expecting. Reception manager was helpful. Not many staff visible in the restaurant. We thought the breakfast was poor and not as good as other hotels on our trip. No fresh fruit except apples or pears. Cooked food was very average and sometimes items ran out. Long queues for the coffee machine (which sometimes broke down). Hard to find somewhere to sit.

Delicious breakfast with great variety of food. On the downside, the car park charge at $35 a day.

Stayed for 4 days safe in room wasn't working, the hotel need to address the shower glass had a teenager in same room you could see through the glass had to shower with lights off not good also no complementary water bottles for breakfast 1 coffee machine wait for a coffee was terrible

Noisy budget option

Night club next door goes until 4:30 am! We stayed in the accessible room for a week. The drain was blocked so the floor flooded when we showered. The bedside light didn’t work, and the blind was broken and unusable by the guest in a wheelchair. We did inform the reception staff about this. The buffet breakfast is like a cattle yard unless you get there before 7:30.

Close to everything with trams, trains and walking distance. Breakfast each morning was great. king bed was nice and big. Would stay again for sure.

The shower during our stay was filthy. There was soap scum on the walls and the drain was so clogged with hair and filth we weren’t able to use it. We were not able to have the room cleaned or have our room changed. The parking is convenient, it is in a good location and the buffet breakfast is lovely.

Very happy with our choice of hotel. Location great with access for train or tram at a 1 minute walk, always plenty of street parking available for coming and going, plus basement parking onsite at a reasonable cost. Overall it is a easy location to jump in and out of the CBD or a brisk walk down to South Bank.

The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The hotel was close to transport and different facilities.

The property was in a great location, breakfast was great, but our room got cleaned very late on a couple of the days. So we were back before it was cleaned late in the afternoon. Apart from that it was great.

The property was immaculately clean and the bed was comfortable, offering a choice of firm and soft pillows. The room was compact but very well designed for maximum functionality, and quiet to ensure a good night’s sleep. Location was excellent offering maximum transport options - close to the Southern Cross Station for rail travellers and a short walk to the tram routes on Collins and Bourke Streets, giving ease of access to wider Melbourne including shopping and theatre precincts. The staff were very friendly and efficient. My package included a complimentary breakfast which was a bonus. My only criticism was that the signage on arrival could have been clearer - a more clear indication that reception was to be found on the second floor would have saved a moment’s confusion - not a big issue and soon resolved. I will certainly be staying here in the future.

Property in central location near anything you need from transport to food to shopping. The parking is convenient and onsite only issue with the parking is getting in and out you have to get out your car on a main road to press a button as key scanning isn’t available. Breakfast in the morning was always a good selection and plenty even if you went later
