Perfect location just a few minutes walk from the beach. Staff in restaurant were very friendly and helpful at breakfast time.
Grand Biarritz stay
Excellent location with facility to pre-book on site secured parking. Helpful and informative Reception staff. Very clean and comfortable
Great location near the beach. Easily walkable to the lighthouse, shopping, bars and restaurants and cute neighborhoods. The staff was very helpful and the spa was a nice amenity. We loved the bathrobes and extra deep soaking tub!
Recommendation
Excellent hotel in super location.
Really nice property, in a very central location. Staff are friendly. Spa is small but nice . Good facilities In room too.
The hotel's location in Biarritz is excellent, just a short walk down to the Grand Plage. Unfortunately on the last morning of our trip (Monday, September 2) the power went out in the hotel shortly before we were scheduled to use the spa. Instead, we checked out early as the power did not come back within at least an hour. We took the stairs to exit, and were glad this wasn't a real emergency as there were items partially blocking the stairwell (a mattress, fragments of other furniture) - which could be a safety concern if actually needing to evacuate quickly. The staff was outstanding and putting in an amazing effort to help guests during the power blackout, great attitude. When we returned a few hours later to retrieve the car the power was back on.
Great location, the spa was lovely way to kill time when the rain came in one day. Short walk to the beeches and all other attractions around Biarritz. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, thank you all
We had overall quite a nice stay, welcome staff, excellent location, nice spa, clean room. However our room faced the street and a nightclub just across the street, can be a bit too noisy after midnight, and the extra charge of 20 euro for a small dog is a bit too high (plus the fact that we had to asked 3 times and waited 30mins to get the bowls for the dog).
Great location. Close to everything. Wounderful staff. Very friendly and helpful. Room was clean and fully supplied. Bed was very comfortable. Highly recommand it.
Good central location. Can book parking but only available until check out time so have to move the car if you want to stay longer. Convenient car park near by but pricy.
5 Stars!
Compared to other 4-star hotels, this was stellar. The staff was highly competent and offered a friendly reception. My room was spacious, elegant, and pristine. It even had pressed sheets with gold piping. The spa with an indoor pool was a luxurious feature. And best of all was the restaurant, with fine wines and gourmet foods. This hotel is very well located near the sea, shopping and restaurants.
The location was perfect and the room size was good
Lovely hotel, with great food and service. The spa was lovely also. Only downside was parking. We were not aware you needed to book in advance so had to park in a multi-storey car park in town and struggle with many cases! The room upgrade and lovely service soon made up for it though!
Parfait ! Nous reviendrons sans hésiter
Trop cher
All good nice place
Lovely hotel, very friendly especially the lovely bar staff
Disappointing
Restaurant and staff were brilliant. Hotel is tired. No parking, couldn’t get a massage (they obviously don’t keep spaces for guests) and needed to book the pool and spa area if we wanted to use it. I would have expected it open for residents without the need for separate booking. Don’t think we’ll be back.
Great room balcony and steam room
V cramped hotel for number of guests
Very small room indeed. Whole hotel v cramped. Staff v nice and helpful.
Really good place with prefect location
Great location with easy onsite parking. The rooms was nice but very hot and the air conditioning was very ineffective. Nevertheless, a nice, clean, central hotel
Amazing location
Amazing location, reasonable price for the quality you get
Staff are very helpful and friendly. Rooms are very clean. Wish I could say the same for the spa, we went in the evening, it seems like they’re short of staff so no towels to be seen and the steam room didn’t seem to work. Very convenient location, would definitely stay again.
Grand Tonic
We stayed in hotel on a golf trip. All was very good. The staff were very friendly.
Great stay
It was very nice, clean, staff in reception were great, particularly Alice on the concierge desk, location was very good close to the beach, good restaurants and bars
Well positioned with secure parking
Perfectly situated with comfortable beds. Room was nice but the corridors are a bit dated as was the toilet area in the room.
We particularly like Chloe at reception. She spent a lot of time helping us get Oreo Ted and was very funny and very kind.
Un vrai bijou ! Merci
Really comfortable, clean and excellent service.
Staff were very friendly and attentive but the rooms, which were refurbished in 2022, have not been done up to a very high standard for the price you pay - plastic pipework on display in the bathroom and grout that’s poorly done. The plumbing is equally poor - the bath took 30mins to fill half way! And the ‘pod’ coffee machine worked only intermittently. Real shame because it’s in a lovely area, right near the beach with lots of nice shops and cafe’s nearby. The staff were however excellent and the breakfast is superb!
Only stayed one night all good
Breakfast was so-so but general experience was great
Lovely hotel , close to beach, Very friendly staff and great variety of food for breakfast
Concierges Celia and Marine and front desk were best I have ever encountered in my life! Wonderful!
I wish hotels would not charge for parking! It is ridiculous to think that trace would not have a car. To me it is just another way to make your room look less expensive.
Hotel was under renovations and this was not mentioned prior to booking. I requested 3 beds, the room had only 2. When I asked in the queen bed could be split, i was told they didn't;t have staff to do it. Phone to front desk didn't work. Themostat was off and once staff came up to show me how to turn it on, the heat never came on. Shampoo and shower gel dispensers were empty. Stair case and only exist in case of fire was closed " due to construction" When I asked the staff about all of those issues she responded" i don't know what to say". Nothing was offer to make my stay acceptable for $200 a night.
Great hotel, friendly and informative staff. I really enjoyed my stay here. One drawback: The online photos made it seem like it had ocean and beach views which it doesn't.
Excellent customer service by the young lady who was the concierge from 1 pm to 8 pm during my stay. I don’t remember her name. So very helpful with my train reservations and bus service. She even walked across the street to the bus stop with me carrying my luggage. Only positive things to say about her genuinely caring personality. Thank you! I wish I could remember her name. I hope she gets this comment.
Very overrated and not 4*
Paid for the junior suite and was very disappointed. Balcony had a poor view of the streets. Bed had the most awful pillows and cheap duvet. Lady on reception was very friendly and gave us a voucher for a drink in hotel bar. No other bars or restaurants very close but luckily the weather was nice so we walked to the seafront and found plenty. Breakfast was one of the worst I’ve ever had. Would not stay here again and definitely do not recommend. Go to the Palais if you can afford it, it’s truly stunning or leOcean hotel for a fabulous location.
Superb breakfast buffet
Superb breakfast buffet. Rooms definitely need an upgrade. However there is a lovely pool with Sauna and steam room. The breakfast is delicious qith lots of choice, catering for all tastes. The staff were friendly and very helpful
Good Location
The hotel is in need of upgrades overall. Beds need to be upgraded too. Overall it is a simple hotel but it has a good location. We had a really good breakfast at the restaurant in the hotel.
Improvement needed
1. Ventilation system available in bathroom and restroom, but not working. Therefore, bad smell! 2. Condition of furniture in room over their life time; old-fashioned furniture, painted over, but with many damages/scratches everywhere over the years. 3. Given an "upgrade" from a room with a large 2-person bed to a room with a large bed and a (useless) child bed for a single person. 4. Provided an ID at reception, but staff forgot to give it me back, as with another customer with a forgotten passport.
Nice hotel. Large rooms, good breakfast, helpful staff. Everything you need.
Nice place !
Elegant hotel close to the beach and centre but with a relaxed atmosphere. Easy to reach by bus. Large comfortable rooms.
Rooms need makeover
Well located hotel .. with friendly staff ! however building is very old and rooms definitely need extreme makeover and refurbishment
Location and service 100%
Amazing location, room is clean and comfortable. Loved the shampoo and body wash. The front desk was super!!! Very friendly and helpful. Totally recommend this hotel.
Great location, friendly staff, good price, large rooms. The hotel could be great if they modernised their rooms and staircase (as there is only one elevator) but that would push the prices up!
Nice hotel to stay
ok
A little tired in places. Needs a bit of an upgrade in some respects. Excellent food in the restaurant and great service there.
good location and friendly staff
The location is ideal, and the lady at the reception was extremely friendly, cheerful and helpful. That made my stay really pleasant . The only thing that i regret was the bathtub wasn't clean,,,so I had to do a deep cleaning before I used it.
Worth a visit
Tonic hotel has a fabulous location, great staff and a fabulous restaurant. Highly recommend the lunch of the day, superb food at a modest price. Staff are helpful, friendly and a joy. My room was excellent view but really needs renovating, lots of little things wrong and really makes it seem tired and not maintained very well.
Beautiful and comfortable room close to the beach. Ample amenities and helpful staff.
More 2 star than 4
Waited 2 hours for the room to be ready ( check in 3pm, room ready 5pm ) Tired looking room, cracked bathroom sink, plastic shower curtain. Staff friendly and pleasant, good central location
nice hotel
Nice hotel close to the beach and a short walking distance to restaurants and bars.
Wonderful stay
It was a lovely hotel, friendly helpful staff. And prime location.
Perfect!!!!
I loved Biarritz, and this place is the perfect hotel to stay, beautiful, clean, with parking but the best of all, a block and a half from the beach!!!!
We’ve stayed here twice now - great stay both times.
Great location that’s walk accessible to everything in Biarritz.
Understaffed, funky (not in a good way) rooms, dirty carpets, overused. They are taking advantage of a great location but not doing much beyond that to give you a pleasant stay. Staff constantly on the phone or dealing with a line of people. Not recommended.
close proximity to beach. perfect location. incredibly friendly and helpful staff.
Rooms better than before
Rooms a lot better than last time we stayed. There were no mattress cover which I found strange. The curtains need to be 're hung as not right. Parking used to be free 15 euros a night a bit steep.
Liked the location to the beach and on sight parking
Happy but confused
The hotel is perfectly located and just a few steps to the beach. But we felt confused about some elements. Such as, we had a standard room in a 4 star hotel but we had bathrobes. That was nice but we had limited tea coffee options and had to pay for milk. There was a jacuzzi bath but the hairdryer was useless. The service was great though and we would stay there again.
Good central hotel in Biarritz
A good hotel with friendly helpful staff , central convenient location one block from the beach , spacious room with spa bath a nice bonus. Biarritz is very walkable and the Grand Tonic is a good base - recommended.
Week in Biarritz
Comfortable beds, large room, very clean, but very dated, bathrooms need renewing as does room furniture and carpet, wifi was good except you have to log back in every 4 hours, aircon was good and did have new samsung 49" tv, general area is ok but on main road and noisy at night, small balcony overlooked by apartments across the street. Kettle and Minibar in room but 2 Sachets of Coffee, Tea and Sugar (NO MILK) only given once when you arrive if you want more you have to buy it from small convenience store around the corner. Reception staff tried to be helpful but not very well informed about local area, told to make enquiries with Tourist Information Office, would go back to Biarritz but would not stay at this hotel again. Went for day trip to San Sebastian (Spain) by coach only 55 minutes journey (7 euros each way) a great city would love to go back for a week, also trip to Bayonne by bus about 25 minutes (1 euro each way) nice city with a lovely old town and riverside.
Aging, decidedly NOT 4 star property.
The Grand Tonic Hotel is an old property that smells musty everywhere. They've tried to renovate, yet the effort is incomplete at best. Carpets are particularly old and smelly, and hallways look dingy. While it's close to the beach and has a very nice staff, there's not much else about it to like.
Great location for everything.
I walked or took the free local mini bus service everywhere that stops across the street from the hotel. Amazing location. No sea view but minutes from the main beach and all that Biarritz has to offer. Staff were fab, room was perfect, location quite. Breakfast perfect, took long walks going from beach to beach, local people friendly, absolutely no complaints, the hotel met all my expectations. I will return to this hotel and recommend highly.
How is this hotel 4 stars?
Hotel is a bit run down and if it is still holding on to 4 stars may be more because a review has not been done than its quality. The rooms are small and the beds are super small. There was no clear indication of parking so we had to park in an outside parking lot and walk through the streets with our luggage at 11:00 pm, when we got there after a full day of driving. Shower head was not clean and it kept falling off, so you had to hold it on one hand rather than it being fixed on the wall. Reception desk lady did not speak English. Breakfast was way overpriced for some not so appetizing looking scrambled eggs, ham and cheese slices and fresh fruit and canned fruit.
The hotel is clean, comfortable and quiet. The WiFi works very well!! The location is great too! :)
Convenient amazing location
It was a nice basic hotel. Location was perfect and staff were friendly. Website said free airport shuttle and they don't offer it so need to change that.
Great hotel in a central location. Restaurant was excellent, food fantastic.
Great for a family of 4 traveling with dog, we will definitely be back
Nice, Clean , close to the beach
Great location, 5 min. walk to the beach and restaurants. Very clean, comfy beds
Stay at family room for 2 days
The room was a good size for 3 people and the toilet is separate from the bathtub, which is convenient. The room didn't get cleaned until later in the day.
Indifference
Staff unsympathetic. Left waiting two hours post 2 pm check in. Two young kids in tow.
Nice hotel but terrible staff!
Nice hotel with perfect location. Rooms were clean and modernly decorated. However, the hotel staff was terrible!! They had lack of knowledge and gave really poor service.. They even failed in booking a taxi which resulted in us arriving late to the airport! We won't return in the future because of this, which is unfortunate since the hotel itself is pretty pleasant.
Biarritz
A3day break, very comfortable,and enjoyable.
Comfortable hotel near the beach
Comfortable hotel very convenienatly located near the beach and walking distance of the town center. We had two rooms which were very different, one with simple, modern decor but missing safe and fridge and the other a more classic decor with safe and fridge. While not quite what I would expect from a four star rating, the rates were not high and it was good value for money.
Quality at a bargain price.
Very nice hotel, close to the main beach. Super room, spacious, big bed, and excellently equipped bathroom with jacuzzi. Great value for money
Well positioned for the main beach, shops etc
Very comfortable and clean - slightly disappointed water and tea making facilities were not included but otherwise perfect for our needs
Convinient second row beach hotel
Overall hotel conditions are a bit outdated
great location across from beach. great buffet bfk
Had a great stay. Comfy beds. Impressed with the breakfast selection which was included.
Superbly located hotel although very quiet.
Biarritz is a super destination, seaside, walks, bars restaurants, history. Proximity of Spain a great plus especially San Sebastian only forty minutes away by bus. Public transport excellent and cheap. Definitely a return destination for us.
Well located
At walking distance of all touristic areas. Friendly and helpful staff.
Great Hotel location
great location
hotel in great location close to beach and town centre, places to eat, shops etc. However breakfast was only fair, very little food one morning and it took staff some time to refill fruit, bread etc... seemed to be just one girl who had to do everything.
Expensive and poor service
We stayed in Biarritz towrds the end of our holiday i the Basque country. The Grand Tonic hotel has a good location the centre of town with a large parking garage across the street. But the service is very poor considering that a family room costs 200 Euros a night. The room was not ready until late in the afternoon. The staff were not very helpful bordering to rude. The breakfast which was not included in the price of the room was quiet poor even by frech standard. Bake-off bread and only boiled eggs.
Close to the beach
Couldn't be a better location only one block from the beach Staff was very helpful and spoke English. Hotel is clean but need s a updating Bed was very comfortable and big plus was the air conditioning worked very well For high season (summer) had a good rate Would stay there again
Attention PUCES dans les lits!!! Warning BedBugs!!
It was my first time in Biarritz and this hotel was recommended to me from a friend. I stayed there only one night. However, in the morning I got the awful suprise that there are BEDBUGS. I did inspect the bed before but seemed hard to see anything. Never go in room 406. I did a big reaction and when I went at the reception desk for a compensation or a refund they said it wasn't there fault and couldn't do nothing about it. They even not appologized or offered me something to make this unacceptable situation less horrible. For a 4 stars hotel, this is unacceptable so be aware and trust me, go somewhere else where they treat their clients with a minimum of respect. They didn't even mind at the reception when I told them I was going to give them the review they deserved on Expedia. For a $250 room a night, that is well paid per bug.
