Funny Details
Charming hotel..old but clean and many funny details....
Disappointed
Room was dirty and shower leaked. Light not working in room, safe ran out of Battey
Capetown"s cozy
It was comfortable
I sgayed in the sugar daddy suite and absolutely loved it! The hotel is beautiful and the toom was very spacious. When i checked in i was warmly greeted and the staff helped me bring my bags upstairs. They do have an elevator as well. The rooftop area was gorgeous and had great music playing in the evening. The restaurant had amzing food that was freshly made each day and a food amount of options. They also had a cake of the day with a cappucino special (best way to end the day!). It was located 2 bkocks from the hop on and off bus tour and one of their main office. I would highly recommend!
Lovely place
Beautiful hotel and great breakfast
Beautiful historic building. Convenient location. Great breakfast that is included with your stay - you get to pick one hot item from the restaurant menu. You also have unlimited access to a small buffet with yogurt, toast, pastries, fruit, and juices.
Beautiful hotel and great breakfast
Beautiful historic building. Convenient location. Great breakfast - you get to pick one hot item from the restaurant menu plus you have unlimited access to a small buffet with yogurt, toast, pastries, fruit, and juices.
Not a good welcome, tv in room not working, asked to have it see too, nothing happened, also very limited channels. Second room had a leak from the ceiling with water cascading onto the carpet. Staff need training.
A nice find
As is common in the Cape Town area, a team of very friendly and generous people made our stay at Grand Daddy Hotel memorable. Highly recommended.
For its price, this was a nice stay. The breakfast was delicious, but it seems that there is room for improvement when it comes to upkeep and cleanliness.
I love the vintage feel of the place!
I’ve always wanted to stay in an airstream caravan on top of the roof of the Grand Daddy Hotel and then my dream finally came true after completing an 8 week crossing from Japan to Cape Town on an overnight expedition vessel. We loved our stay and enjoyed our night in the Goldrush immensely. My boyfriend says you’ve gotta love a hotel room with an en-suite bar, referring to the roof top bar which will keep you well watered and pickled ! The staff are all extremely friendly and I quite like the vintage feel of the place.
Loved the skybar hotel and included breakfast was excellent. Wonderful location less than two blocks from Hop On red bus main office.
It’s an older hotel, with rooms in need of an update, The furniture on our room was awkwardly placed that I had to move the dresser out of the way, The breakfast however was wonderful, made to order and included in nightly cost, Music from bar upstairs was heard in the room 2 floors down, thank fully it stoped playing at 9 or 10.
Fun, vibey hotel
Cute boutique hotel. Rooms are very small but nicely designed. Airstream park/bar on rooftop is super cute. Area outside hotel late at night can be sketch. We’re sad we didn’t get to experience the restaurant, it looked amazing. Would love to stay again.
Beware.. they illegally use your credit card numbe
I was going to stay but decided not to. They sent me an email saying to pay a deposit to reserve the room so I disn’t pay it. Turns out they illegally charged my credit card for the stay. It was 1016.00 USD. I have to respond to the credit card company because they will not discuss. I have had no luck with them and did not approve the charge. Beware… once they have your credit card info they charge what they want. This has caused me so much distress on my trip and they are very unprofessional.. I have called multiple times and texted at least 20 times. They read the texts but do not respond.
Great breakfast, good location.
My sister and I stayed here for 6 nights on a recent trip to Cape Town and generally enjoyed our stay. We arranged an airport pick up through the hotel and he was largely on time for our arrival. The price did change at the last minute though and when I asked why, multiple times, no one at the hotel would give me an answer. The room itself was good, very spacious. The shower was over a tub which was fine provided no mobility issues. Ours did leak a bit so we'd end up with some water pooling under the sink but we used the bath mat to soak that up. The shower was generally good with good water pressure. However, our final two nights we had no hot water but the first 4 we did, not sure why. Bed was comfortable. We had a fridge, but unlike other reviews ours was not stocked. We had a drink upstairs at the bar and dinner downstairs, both were good. Be prepared for loud music from the rooftop bar and also level 1 with what they've got happening there. It didn't worry our sleep and I'm not sure what time it stopped but might cause a problem for light sleepers. The highlight was the breakfast each morning. There was continental style together with a la carte. Odwa in the breakfast room was a ray of sunshine each morning and by day 3 she had our drink orders ready before we'd even ordered. Food was absolutely delicious. Breakfast staff should be comended. Waterfront is easy to walk to in daylight, as is Kloof St & Bo Kapp. I'd stay again
Nice stay!
Great service , good breakfast. Comfortable and nice stay!
Wonderful hotel in Cape Town central.
Amazing staff. So friendly. Great location
Has excellent restaurant attached to hotel with fabulous breakfast. Price is reasonable. Can be a but noisy--bring your sound machine.
Amaizing
Amaizing hotel. Great rooms and great staff. Great location and lovely rooftop bar
No pool as stated
Great option in the heart of the city. Good food and great service.
Really fun and funky Hotel. Easy to walk all around the area. Can be picked us easily for any local tours.
The hotel is unique and staff were excellent. As a solo traveller staff went out of their way to ensure I had safe rides/taxis to my destinations. Their restaurant and rooftop bar was safe and fun with good food. I would definitely recommend this hotel.
The rooftop airstream hotel is such a fun & enjoyable experience! Definitely recommend.
Airstream Problems
This was our second night in the hotel. We decided to rent an Airstream on the roof because it would be fun and different. We rented the small Bambi trailer with the outside bath. The first issue was the outer door to the Airstream wouldn't lock, so people could come into our bathroom when we weren't inside the trailer. That wasn't a big deal. The problem we had on the 2nd floor room was no internet and construction noise. The internet worked great in the Airstream because the bar is upstairs. So, upon going to bed, one side of the bed was all wet. I assumed it was from the AC. I told the staff and they did relocate us to a room on the 3rd floor because they couldn't find the key to the other vacant Airstream. The room on the 3rd floor was nice and roomy. I did ask for a partial refund because we had issues with both our nights staying here. The reception said they were going to speak with the manager and get back to me. That was 6 hours ago and I haven't received a response. Again, its a cool hotel but it needs to be managed better
Construction happening!
The hotel is nice. They are in the process of building a new restaurant on the 2nd floor. So, from 7am to 8pm it sounded like someone was drilling through our wall! Plus, the wifi didn't work on our room. We had to go to the bar on the roof for wifi. We are staying in an Airstream on the roof tonight, so see my next review
Loved the Grand Daddy!
We enjoyed the Grand Daddy hotel. It was centrally located, close to amazing restaurants. Rooms were quiet, comfortable with great internet. The breakfasts were made to order and terrific!
Better than expected
Having had someone from Granddaddy use my booking data and try to scam me to pay again a few weeks before I arrived, I wasn’t full of hope. I still don’t think the hotel has resolved this to my satisfaction. However, once there we had a good stay. The room was comfortable and clean, the staff very helpful and courteous and the hotel I very well positioned. The roof top bar is a lovely place to relax.
Grandest Grand Daddy
Grand Daddy has a wonderful atmosphere all its own with its friendly staff and rooftop trailer park and bar. I enjoyed peeking into the amazing Airstream accommodations up on top of the 7-story historic building before retiring into my very comfortable conventional hotel room. Breakfast in the morning was outstanding, fresh, and offered many choices. Staff were extremely helpful in advising how to get around alone in Capetown. A great spot!
Quirky Airstreams
Stayed in the quirky airstreams as a solo traveller. Was nice, although a little loud as it was right next to the rooftop bar. Saying that, music does stop by 9pm. Was a nice hotel
Loved the hotel and will definitely be back! For those staying in the trailers if you don’t like noise then don’t book the trailers, many fun events on the rooftop!
We stayed in the roof top trailer park air streams, nicely situated with outside sitting areas and the bar close by
From the moment we arrived and Richard got our bags from the taxi, easy check in, going an old school elevator and staying in a nicely refurbished room, we both enjoyed it!!
Great hotel downtown
The hotel was awesome. Breakfast had a wide selection, and the coffee was great. Very friendly staff. It was centrally located but a bit of a walk from the Waterfront because of the way the streets are laid out. Overall, definitely a top 10% for me.
We had a suite which was very spacious and met all our needs, reception staff were attentive, breakfast staff were not so and the breakfast was average. When booking this hotel you need to understand that it’s in a very busy area and around the hotel are lots of beggars that are quite persistent, whilst eating breakfast one morning a couple were set upon by 3 men, luckily the couple were okay and 1 man was apprehended, so just be aware this was the only place in SA I felt unsafe.
Friendly staff. Great roof top bar.
Well located central city hotel
Very well located for walking in central Cape Town; convenient to many tourist interests. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The hotel is comfortable, although could use some updating. Excellent breakfast including cooked to order items and a small buffet.
Remind me an accommodation in New York
The hotel was very comfortable and the staff were all helpful and pleasant. I would definitely stay here again.
Gem in the Centre of Town!
The Staff at Grand Daddy Hotel are so welcoming, friendly and helpful! The little hotel is a beautiful gem in the centre of town and close to some great eat-out places, Artscape, and so on. The rooftop is something else and the attention to detail is special. The breakfast was truly amazing!
One of the best hotels I have stayed in all my travels. Staff has excellent customer service - front desk, waiters at the restaurant, bartenders, porters - everyone went out of their way to make our one week stay memorable. We stayed at the “winelands” camper on the rooftop — so fun! Enjoyed the free breakfast which was topnotch. The cocktails were unique & delicious. One night we had an authentic South African Braai or bbq prepared by the chef — we grilled in front of our camper trailer. It is safe & close to everything. The red bus stop that will give you access to all of Cape Town is a 2 min walk. Book this property now. I will recommend to friends & family!
Great, clean property and wonderful customer service. Would definitely come back to visit.
We enjoyed our stay at the Grand Daddy! Breakfast and the staff are wonderful!
The staff were friendly and extremely helpful. The rooftop bar is super cool and Ben, the bartender, is the best. The food at Thirty Ate is very good.
This was my first time out of country by myself and I must say, my stay at the GrandDaddy was a wonderful experience. It was well-cleaned, with friendly staff and a charming aesthetic, and to top it all off, the free breakfast was restaurant quality. I would absolutely recommend for anyone wanting to get the urban Cape Town experience. The only thing I would recommend noting is the area surrounding it. Given that it sits right in the middle of the entertainment district, the streets after dark are a bit sketchy. But other than that, it was a wonderful experience.
Comfy white fluffy sheets and bedding. Convenient to site seeing and airport. Helpful staff, fantastic bartender.
Perfect stay at Grand Daddy!!
Staff was amazing… location was great and Airstream was perfect!!
Loved our stay at Grand Daddy hotel. It’s small and very unique. The restaurant downstairs was great. The free breakfast was amazing. Loved the rooftop bar and being surrounded by airstreams up there. Very unique place. All the staff were so friendly.
There are many "International" hotels in Cape Town which are of a good standard but maybe a bit bland. Grand Daddy is not one of these. It is clean and has the usual things you expect in a 4 Star Hotel but where it excels is in the personality and friendliness of its Staff, the old fashioned atmosphere and general vibe of the hotel. So, if you want something different from the norm, give them a try. Special mention for the good breakfast and coffee.
I booked a room with a courtyard view but when U arrived to the hotel I was told by the front desk supervisor “Oh, I noticed that but we don’t have a courtyard.” When this error was first noticed, the staff should’ve contacted. Instead they attempted to put me in a room without a window. After spending an hour explaining why their inaccurate listing was not my fault, they at least put me in a room with a window although it still did not have a courtyard view.
The property is right on the main street. It’s nice and had a restaurant connected to it. The rooms are nice as well, especially given the age of the place. The staff were extremely nice and helpful. They have some recommendations on things to do as well. When I had to abruptly get another room during my visit (an unrelated friend dispute) and was running low on time (had to get to a pickup point for a tour), the staff helped me out and stored my bags in another room until I booked a room! In the US, no hotel would’ve done that. They have top tier service, and that is greatly appreciated. I hope to come back one day.
Hotel was in good location. Little sketchy around though. Staff was great. Room was big and good for the price. However, had tv difficulties. Only had cable 2 days out of the 6. Kept reporting the issue but couldnt get fixed. Food at the restaurant was good. Rooftop cute.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. The coffee was amazing and the food was very good. It was a great location.
We stayed in one of the 7 Airstream caravans on the roof, was actually an amazing experience and loved it. There is a roof top theater and bar and staff are very friendly and efficient. The building is old but very well maintained the elevator in the building could be 50 years or more old and has been modernised but it keeps its lovely old character. I would highly recommend this hotel especially if you want to experience the real Cape Town and explore this unique and historic city.
Property was unique and exactly as pictured on the website. I would definitely stay here again. It was a convenient location for eating and shopping. The hotel was a wonderfully unique experience. As someone who travels alot for work, I did not want to stay in a chain hotel. Grand Daddy Hotel was perfect. Large rooms, excellent breakfast and then my son and I found the resturant and big screen with couches on the roof! Would definitely recommend and I hope to revisit again in the future.
Everything about the hotel was fabulous. The rooms were clean and the staffs were very friendly and responsive. The bar had great margaritas and the complimentary breakfast was fresh and delicious. Everyone we met were friendly and generous. We had a very comfortable stay. Thank you!
It was like stepping back in time in a good way
Very friendly staff, excellent breakfasts.
The air stream trailers on the roof are pretty cool and unique places to stay in the middle of the city. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Good breakfast. We didn't have much time here unfortunately, so didn't spend a lot of time in the hotel and can't really speak to any services or amenities beyond the great front desk staff and the good breakfast.
Staff was motivated, always helpful regarding service requests
The service was fantastic, everyone was so helpful. Very cool decor!
Staff was fantastic. We we're able to do an early check in. The room was just what we needed, very clean.
Great roof top bar with excellent food. in the heart of Cape Town with easy access to everything including the Hop on Hop off Bus
I booked the top room at the Grand Daddy, the Grand Daddy suite for what it was meant to be a great start to our South African holiday over NYE. When we arrived we were told that due to an error in the booking system and with Expedia we wouldn’t get the suite we had booked, but a superior room (which turned out to be a standard room, one of those overlooking the internal courtyard). The other option would’ve been a cancellation and refund - and good luck in finding a room on 31st December! When we told the manager we weren’t happy she responded that the difference between the cost of the GD suite and a superior (standard!) room was only about €20. Wrong as they sell those rooms for about €100 less. They tried to come up with goodwill gestures (a meal at their restaurant which we had no use for as we had already booked places for our lunches and dinners) and free parking which we ended paying ourselves as they ran out of prepaid parking tickets. When I wrote to them after our trip complaining they simply ignored my email. Terrible terrible customer service in spiate of the fact it’s a nice hotel and nice staff. But don’t bother booking expensive rooms over there as you’re unlikely to get them anyway. Expedia was useless at resolving our problem and I’m not even sure what the point of booking through them is since they leave you to your own devices should a problem arise. Terrible experience with Expedia too.
Character and comfort at the Grand Daddy
A great hotel with true character, exciting design, comfort, and wonderful service with a smile. Even though in a somewhat dodgy part of central Cape Town, I'd gladly stay there again.
Excellent
Staff were friendly and helpful.l can’t name them all cause I might miss one and it’s gonna be unfair.Thoudy is one of them. They’re all amazing people.
Fantastic stay! Hotel staff members were so kind!
Staff were very helpful and accommodating.Thoudy the guy at the front desk help me with my phone calls to the airline when I had a problem. They also help with my daily pickup time for my activities.
Staff was friendly
The Grand Daddy has the most delightful employees I have ever seen in a hotel. From the moment you walk in, to the time you leave everyone makes you feel like royalty! The roof top bar shouldn't be missed and the Thirty Ate restaurant has a delicious cooked breakfast along with superb coffee. NO load sheading was experienced here either!
Cute boutique hotel
Great, darling roof top with air stream trailers and bar
Stina
Staff really helpful!
Loved our stay - though a usable mirror in the bathroom of Karoo would have been much appreciated!
It is a beautiful boutique hotel located in the heart of Cape Town's dining and nightlife district where you can easily walk to great restaurants and music venues. The hotel is an elegant Victorian structure with a great restaurant and rooftop bar where entertainment is also provided form time to time. Airstream trailers on the roof act as wonderful suites, each with they own sitting area and garden. The staff is extrememly friendly personable and attentive to all the guest needs. A truly wonderful experience and a place we will return to whenever we visit Cape Town.
It is a good one.
The staff was welcoming, attentive and extremely friendly. The room was nicely decorated, comfortable and clean. Located on a street with many restaurants. I highly recommend this hotel.
The staff was outstanding very courteous and friendly. The restaurant had good food and the rooftop bar was out of this world.
Great for a Night in the city
Great experience! Stayed one night. Get a trailer on the roof, the view is wonderful in the morning.
Great location, friendly staff, love the funky Airstream trailers and bar, and wonderful taxi organized. Hope to return!
Tiny trailer but great adventure
We had a great stay, accommodations were a bit tight in the trailer and should have opted for the larger trailer, unfortunately the larger air stream was not available. The bar closed at 9 during the week, I guess it’s winter season, but was much nicer when it stayed open late. Clean cool hotel and the restaurant/coffee house was awesome!
Long Street and Bree Street is a great location! Lots of bars and Restaurants to choose from. You are also right next to some great markets and the Big Red Bus stop! The rooftop bar was also a great place to sit and view table mountain whilst planning the next day. We were a family of 4 and stayed 5 nights in the Sugar Daddy suite. The staff and managers are exceptionally friendly and helpful... they cant do enough for you to make your stay perfect!
Unique and Worth it!
An amazing experience overall, we enjoyed the uniqueness of the venue and the vibe was true to the Longstreet name, we were welcomed and take up to our Caravan suite, my request for Champaign in the room was effectively executed, the staff helped us with all our needs and checked in on us every so often. You could see that there has been a decline in patronage though as the attention to cleanliness was not 100% but it wasn't a turn away, just a bit of attention is required to hotel wall corners. But nothing that would not stop us from going there again.
Friendly staff and nice rooms. The rooftop bar is great for a drink.
The GREAT Granddaddy!
For 10 days we stayed at the Grand Daddy and loved our stay. We started out in an Airstream which was fun! But keep in mind they are small and not conducive to a long stay. After 2 nights we asked if we could be moved. Faeez put us in a standard room which was great. Then he upgraded us for a few nights to the Grand Daddy. Unfortunately, our door lock jammed and we needed to be moved again. We were upgraded to the Sugar Daddy which is THE BEST! The staff was beyond helpful and pleasant. Especially FAEEZ who flawlessly accommodated our switching rooms situation. We stayed in 4 different units and were impressed with them all! In addition, the breakfast was fantastic. The rooftop bar and their service was excellent. My only advice would be to be aware that the Grand Daddy is located on Long Street which can be sketchy in the evening so you will not want to wander very far in the evening. And maybe the hotel needs to change its carpet in the (super cool) elevator and stairwell. Starting to look a bit used and abused. Otherwise, no complaints! A fun place to stay!
Grand Daddy Airstream Trailer Winelands
We stayed in an Airstream Trailer Winelands, it was an amazing experience. Sky Bar right outside our door, Evans and his team was super. From arrival, porters were great, check in - front office team super friendly to house keeping, breakfast, lunch or dinner. Fabulous, would stay again!!! Location was so central. Wifi was very good.
bad location
It’s in a location that is very loud and not the nicest place you want to be walking at. The hotel itself was trendy and “clean” Wouldn’t stay there again because of the location.
est Ever
Wonderful boutique hotel Highly recommended
We had a lovely stay and all the staff were friendly. The aircon gave off an odd smell and the bathroom also had a damp smell. The rest of our stay was super.
Wonderful front desk staff, fantastic roof deck, comfortable rooms
Staff very helpful especially reception had a small problem with the safe but sorted extremely quickly
The staff, specifically, Patrick and Lucy, were exceptional. I loved the location. The room was awesome. The rooftop bar with the air streamers was unique and added something to the hotel. I also liked that they explain the air streamers in photos on the first floor. The breakfast choices from the menu were superb, best choices that I have ever seen in a hotel.
The hotel, staff, room and facilities are very enjoyable. It is a boutique hotel and it also has roof top bar with trailers available to stay in. The restaurant is very nice, with good food. It was a very pleasing stay.
I stayed in the rooftop airstream trailer park. The first trailer, I had trouble with the door so they asked if I would like to move. The benefit for me being that I got to see the design of more than one trailer as each is unique and designed by different designers. I loved the venue for this difference compared to other hotels. They also gave me a really large glass of wine when I arrived, apologising for an 18 year old's birthday party which was not really that noisy and finished before 9pm. I felt the care for hotel dwellers was great. The breakfast downstairs was amazing and delicious everyday and housekeeping was speedy whenever I needed anything. Amazing attention to detail in every aspect at the hotel. Another bonus is location as it is about a block from a pickup point for the hop on-hop off red bus. I used this to get around town as Cape Town is quite large. Well worth looking into for money saving on transportation.
Downtown hotel is close to many key sites. Clean, modern rooms. Friendly staff. Great restaurant adjoined to hotel!
It’s small and personal. The staff are lovely. A lot of thought has been put into each room.
The best stay evwr
The staff went out of their way to make our stay the best experience. Even though our book in time was only from 14:00, they had our trailer ready for us. Wow. It was lovely.
Hotel is a little dated, but makes up for it in charm. Staff is 5 star. Check out the airstream trailers on the roof! Whaat?
Our stay at Grand Daddy was very nice. We loved the camper trailer, a fun and different kind of hotel room. Staff was very friendly and accomodating, everything clean and neat. We can strongly recommend a stay here.
