I booked a room in this property and was phoned an hour or 2 later to say it was double booked. I was then told that they had an annex down the road that I could stay in, I asked what it was like and they said it was comfortable so I drove to the lodge to be met at reception and was told to follow a guy to the annex, I was expecting to walk but then had to follow him in my car where he took me to the gateway crossroads in Cleckheaton which looked like a drug den it was disgusting, I asked him what it was and he said it was more like a HMO. Needless to say I refused to stay and ended up staying at somewhere much more expensive but nicer. I am extremely disappointed with the Gomersal lodge and found their treatment disgusting.
Why do i get two requests for a review ... place was dirty and rundown. No remote for the TV. Paper thin wall hence noisy neighbours ruined sleep. Offered another room that was not cleaned or still occupied .. it wasnt clear. neveer again. No one around the next day to relay this to.
when i arrived at the property, there was no staff in sight for around 20 minutes, then when someone came in they could not find room 6 key for over half an hour i was waiting in reception. when we eventually went to the room, we was made aware that the door would not lock as there was no key. therefore we felt unsafe to leave the room, or even sleep in it as door was unlocked all night. when i asked for an extra towel as there was only one provided for 2 people, i was told no, same with the milk after paying for bed and breakfast, i only asked for milk. privacy was terrible as my friend was stood in the room after showering only wearing a towel not even in anybody’s view, we looked out of the window to see multiple staff members trying to glance through our window which was very disturbing and uncomfortable as we are young women in our 20s. overall this hotel experience was the worst i’ve ever had, would not ever return.
Not so nice l, unfortunately
When we arrived the room wasnt ready and there was linen and crockery on the check in desk.. totally in disarray! The room was ok, in their haste, they must have forgot to dust the bedside cabinets or clean the toilet and when i mentioned the toilet on going out, it still hadnt been cleaned when we arrived back later in the evening. There was no one to check us out and ended up just leaving the keys on the bar sink... There was a nice room overlooking the grounds and a marquee which looked nice. It could be a stunning venue but needs a lot of love and attention
Old Country Location
Check in was easy Front desk girl VERY personable Nothing was a bother for her Hotel is a big old house Lovely location No food at all but close to eateries Has bar facilities Clean room Tea/coffee in rooms En-suite very snug but works Good value for money and would stay again if in area
The house keeper was really lovely and did a great job setting up my room which had not been sorted despite arranging early check in. The views are lovely around the grounds and I slept well in my room (number 2). It was spacious and comfortable. My only suggestion would be that as you guys don't do breakfast, I would give it a try. I think your guests would really appreciate it.
Never again.
We found the room so small,it was very difficult to move around, we found the linen wasn't that clean and the bathroom hand basin was rusty, there was also a hole in the window and no heating in the room.
Room was really nice, bathroom a little on the small side but not a deal breaker. It was quite in the room even though there was a wedding on the grounds 🙂
Disappointed
Very disappointed he couldn’t really be bothered checking us in . Didn’t even tell us where we could get breakfast . We didn’t see anyone when we checked out .
Nice location but quests very noisy and no one to monitor noise level
Appauling from start to finish il never stsy here again
Poor quality and service!
There was a garden party on and our room was facing it. Even with blind down and window closed the disco lights beamed through the blind and the music echoed around our room. There was only a used bar of soap in the shower with a hair on it. No tea/coffee products to use the tea/coffee facilities. Only one towel despite booking for two adults and the one we did have was tatty and worn. On check in, we were informed that the key to our room had been stolen and therefore they unlocked and opened for us but stated that if we needed to leave the room, we had to let them know.
Avoid at all costs.
I was turned away when I arrived. They offered me alternative accommodation but I refused. They tried to trick me into cancelling- I would have lost all my money if I did that. They still haven't agreed to a refund.
Overnight in Cleckheaton
Stayed overnight at this converted country house. Sadly I arrived at night and left before dawn and so could not see the full extent of the grounds or eat in the restaurant. Room was fine for an overnighter on business in this part of Yorkshire.
Friendly and good value
Lovely location in beautiful grounds within easy walk of the town. Staff go the extra mile to look after guests. Nice to find a hotel with a bit of character.
Fantastic New Owner
This was booked last minute, and what a gem of a find. The best nights sleep i had had in a long while. Furthermore, talking to the new owner, the vision she has for the business, will ensure success for years to come. I will definitely be coming back
Lovely old building and nice gardens . Bus stop just up the road was ideal for me to get into Leeds . Comfortable bed but very small bathroom
TOOK PAYMENT TWICE AND IGNORES MY EMAILS AND CALLS
I was charged twice for my room as they advised my payment hadn’t gone through when I arrived. As I booked though hotels.com they should not have been trying to take any money from my card in the first place. I have been trying to get in contact with someone for 1 week to resolve the payment issue however my emails and phone calls are being ignored. The room was not ready when we arrived (two hours later than allowed) however they still gave us to the key and advised the room was clean. We had to climb over a pile of dirty bedding and a hoover to even get to the room.
The hotel suited us fine room could do with a coat of paint but no complaints.
Pleasant Business trip
Spent four nights at Gomershall lodge Bed was very comfortable .Cameron the manager Made you feel very welcome, and was always on hand if you needed anything. Nice quiet surroundings , good parking would definitely stay again
Disastrous dangerous shambolic and uncaring
This was a shambles. Check -in was just about OK but it deteriorated from there. First morning breakfast was delayed because they had run out of bacon and had to drive to the shop. Second and third morning had to wait until nearly the scheduled finish-time because no staff had turned up. Not "the relevant staff" failed - there was NO staff on the premises. On the the third night I could not get into the building on return at midnight because the security code was not working - after a phone call to the main number it was clearly re-set remotely and worked. The final morning, Monday (breakfast 7 till 9 supposedly) I went downstairs at just after 8 to eat and check-out. The whole hotel was deserted; I seemed to be the only guest, and alone in the building. At around 8.30 I admitted a workman who had arrived to install some equipment, neither of us could find anyone but he discovered a side door unlocked. At 9.30 I had given up and was leaving unbreakfasted when the so-called manager arrived; I suggested that at very least I should receive a refund of some of my charges but to date nothing received. This hotel is worse than a disgrace: if I was alone in the building overnight with a side door unlocked, the security and safety implications do not bear thinking about and I am tempted to place a report with the licensing authorities. never, ever stay there!
Lovely setting but shabby
This hotel has so much potential. It set in the most beautiful grounds. However, although the room was clean, it was quite shabby and cobwebs in the corners. The young man who checked me in was extremely polite and helpful. I didn't feel totally comfortable being there on my own, as there was screaming from guests coming in late and doors slamming right up until 2.30am. Some guests were also smoking downstairs in the early hours which I could smell in my room. Breakfast was good but as a solo traveller, I don't think I would stay there again.
Great hotel
great stay
Mixed feelings.
This hotel has so much potential, it just needs some extra love and care. Garden area from first view is really nice however a lot of areas are still unfinished. The hotel is small only 7 rooms, if busy and people are in the bar drinking or checking in this can be heard from the rooms. During our stay we didnt have an issue as we were the only people staying at that time. There was a funny smell too the room and a flashing light right outside above our bedroom window which flashed continuously. The rooms did not have curtains only a blind which did still let light through. The tv was fixed to the wall high up which meant you couldn't fit a HDMI cable in if you were wanting to do so which was quite a big issue for us. If the rooms and grounds were given some extra care and love this would make so much of a difference.
Just the job
Welcoming and comfortable nights stay
Nice place to stay in the area - recommended!
A very nice place. Authentic old house with very friendly staff.
Naseem
Nice n clean. Peaceful surroundings
Great hotel very quiet location and very private, if your looking for a nice night away an excellent choice
A great place to stay!
A lovely little hotel I selected mainly as it was close to where I needed to be for my one night business trip. The room had everything that I needed, including a hairdryer that I had forgotten to bring with me. What makes it an excellent overall stay, was not only the very reasonable price, but mostly because of the very friendly person on the front desk, (sorry, I have forgotten his name) who was so helpful! Thank you.
Over night stay
Pretty basic .... no breakfast... restaurant not open .... no concierge upon leaving all operated via cctv. Local pub ... no food no crisps etc Nearest food Chinese ten mins walk ok Conveniece store 20 mins walk Easy parking Comfortable bed Tiny shower could be a lot cleaner
Nice and convenient setting
Setting in quiet pretty area surroundee by lawn, field, trees. One of typical old stone Yorkshire buildings. Room was basic with small bathroom. Shower was very good. Furniture could use replacement: table/cabinet for coffee setup, old, covered with scratch type markings. Bed comfortable. All very clean. Staff friendly and helpful. Would note that owners offer wedding facilities: large tent area for ceremonies and receptions...extensive area for event. Would want to keep this in mind if booking weekend stay...check to see if ceremony scheduled for evening which could be disruptive to rest, sleep. Basic older, small hotel with rooms which remind one of some of older family run B and B's with older furnishings.
It needs some TLC
When we arrived expecting to have a room with twin beds we were told that since we had book some time ago they no longer had a twin-bedded room. They put a Z-bed in as the second bed.
Terrible hotel, dirty & rooms was smelly with spiders and mould
Essentially just an old rickety house
To call this place a hotel is a stretch. I was actually surprised that there was someone there to give me a key and that there was a lock on the door. The check in steward hardly spoke English and seemed very surprised to see me; pretty sure I was the only one there. He watched his tv on loud all night which would have kept me up if I'd actually been able to sleep on the very hard bed anyway. The shower was an old electric model from the 60's that had two settings: scorching hot or ice cold, both at a pitiful dribble. Upon "checking out" I left my key on the desk when nobody appeared after standing there for 15 minutes. Secondly, if you value your vehicle at all, stay somewhere else. The access road requires a 4x4 and is essentially a dirt track full of deep pot holes. Possibly the worst and most random hotel experience I've ever had.
Friendly night porter, room was excellent for the price, happy to stay here again any time.
Not clean enough
Simply not very clean.
Suited my needs
Fine for the price!!
Appauling hotel
would never stay here again.
Shambles
I booked a two night stay at Gomersal Lodge Hotel. I rang the hotel the weekend before our stay to confirm my booking. They had no record of it. However they rang me back a few hours later to tell me they could accommodate us. I let them know the time that we intended to arrive between 5pm and 6pm and checked this was ok. I did arrive at 5pm. We were greeted by a polite gentleman who told us he had no room but he had arranged a room at another hotel a few miles away - Alder House Hotel. We drove there and were shown a room by another helpful gentleman. However the room was dark and smelt of sewage. There was no sign of anyone else (staff or guests) which felt a little odd. We had chosen the original hotel for it's proximity to a wedding venue we were attending. We decided to drive to the venue to establish location and fortunately found pleasant alternative accommodation. We have not stayed at Gomersal Lodge Hotel and so this review is based on my experience of being turned away. I wonder whether the hotel is intentionally overbooking and then redirecting patrons to what was described as it's sister hotel. I have no evidence of this other than putting together my conversations the week before with Gomersal Lodge and the fact that when arriving the gentleman that greeted us did not even take my name, he already had planned the redirection to the other hotel.
Massively overbooked!
Booked to stay at this hotel for one night. Received a call from the lodge on the afternoon of arrival that they had over booked myself and five others. Considering that they only have seven rooms there had been a massive mistake their end. I was offered alternative accommodation at their sister hotel, but having checked the reviews, more than one customer had referred to it as the Faulty Towers of the North, so I declined and rushed around to find something elsewhere. I was really disappointed as it looks like a characterful quaint place at a reasonable price, but as I only received the call after a three hour drive from London and half an hour before I was due to go and check in I wasn't happy. My booking had been made a good few days prior so there was plenty of time to come back to me if they didn't have availability.
Pleasant stay with just one night disruption
I stayed here on business for 4 nights and the overall stay was a pleasant one. The room, albeit with older décor was tidy and the old radiator (which was on heat was being kept from entering the room by an extra single bed) was supplemented by an electric heater which worked very well. Although I've read reviews about hot water and plumbing issues at this hotel, my hot water was excellent for the entire stay and the shower was electric with a good flow. The guesthouse is situation in lovely surroundings although with a little more cash insertion this place could be a little gem. Staff when I needed them were very helpful and polite. I had just one night which prevented me from having a decent nights sleep and that was because of an ongoing loud discussion, possibly argument or disagreement, between some of the staff downstairs which echoed into my room. This lasted from almost 7pm until after midnight. Other than that, it was a pleasant place to stay.
Lovely overnight stop.
Great service. Nice rooms. Wonderful atmosphere. Despite the 50 pound return taxi fare from central Endinburgh which added to the overall cost it was well worth the stay.
No smoking room?!
Advert on the website and booking details said smoking room, when we got there, guess what?! No smoking room everywhere! Cheap price but the room was quite dated and not much really.
Clean hotel. Friendly, helpful staff. Would use again.
nice grounds hotel needs investment
The hotel has lovely grounds but is a bit run down and spartan. The facilities are enough but basic with a side table next to the bed and a small glass table as furniture with a white laminate floor. The dining/function room was the same with basic metal chairs and a basic breakfast which was not worth the money. For the amount paid I would have expected some fruit and/or Yoghurt to go with the cereal and a choice of breakfasts as opposed to a full English and that's it. The staff are friendly and it's a pity about the very dated decor. Sorry to be so blunt the hotel could be much better with a bit of investment and care.

We were expecting a lovely country house with spa in a quiet location. We were not told that there was a wedding taking place right under our unglazed windows, the spa being a hot tub outside and the reception being a man in a tracksuit who had to be called to attend to us. Completely unprofessional. So bad we turned and walked back out. Disgraceful
