Lovely time and staff friendly
Breakfast was great but the layout was very strange. We were eating breakfast bext to reception. Also the ensuit /shower was not designed well. Couldn't turn in shower, no shelves to put toiletries or make up bag on. The bedroom carpet should be replaced with tiled floor. Staff were very pleasant.
Just an excellent place to stay. Second time there in three weeks. Will be my place of choice now when I’m in that area. Staff are great. Food is great. Very relaxing.
Excellent breakfast
Beautiful room and helpful staff. Would stay again .
Fantastic
Lovely hotel, with spacious, clean, friendly, beautiful rooms and an amazing vegan food selection.
Breakfast was great and the staff were very friendly. The water turned off in the middle of the night but the bathroom was clean. The room was well kept but the door lock was odd. Overall, very cute hotel just a little out of town.
Great place to stay
What a lovely place. The staff could not be more friendly. All of them chatty, they all wanted to make sure you had a good stay. Gated car park was a great place too. Totally secure. And the breakfast was great too.
Very nice property. Close to the water and restaurants. 11 min drive to the international port terminal. I would give it 5 stars if it had air conditioning in the room. Thank heavens for the portable fan in the armoire.
Very good and enjoyable stay. Breakfast was very nice and room very spacious
All the above
The property has its charm and character, it is not souless modern chain property.
Recommended
Great service, comfortable rooms and amazing food - definitely recommended!
Nice place to stay
3 day break with our cavapoo.
2 night stay would definitely return very friendly and helpful staff.Great on site restaurant.
Lovely deco, nice restaurant, friendly helpful staff.
lovely hotel
we arrived early but were checked in straight away. parking outside was easy and they gave us a prking permit. just a few minutes walk from the beach and easy walk to bars and restaurants. it was very clean and the staff were very helpful. nice restaurant and bar at the hotel and the breakfast was very good with plenty of choice. would stay there again if we needed a hotel in the area.
Room was gorgeous, staff really helpful. Hotel had a very welcoming feel about it, would definitely recommend.
The hotel was lovely . Very nicely decorated throughout . Staff were very happy and helpful . Would definitely stay here again .
Lovely little boutique hotel. Room beautifully clean . Staff lovely. Thoroughly recommended
Close to seafront, exceptional hotel
This group of Hotels is such a high standard. Restaurant and Bar and the Florence Arms Pub on hand to eat and drink. Room was large and bathroom was very updated. Beautifully decorated. Walking distance to the Seafront
Efficient, friendly staff
Lovely stay again. Comfortable room. Efficient, friendly staff. Excellent breakfast. Good location
Lovely hotel . Ideal location. Excellent breakfast
A really wonderful stay . The lady at reception (Kim) made us feel really welcome and anticipated our needs before we did . The location is ideal . Right by the beach and the breakfast is top quality. Have stated here several times over the past couple of years and will do so again
Very pleasant hotel. Quiet. Gastro pub linked to the hotel just across the road was great too. Helpful staff. Nice big room, clean and well decorated. Comfy bed. Easy walk to the sea front. I recommend rebooking parking if you need it. Would definitely stay again.
No wonder I couldn't find it.
The name of the hotel is the Florence Hotel on Malvern Rd, very little signage and what signage there is small and tucked away in doorways. The hotels main name is the Mercer Hotel on Florence St, large signage. The Florence Hotel reception is co-located at the Mercer Hotel reception. I found this very confusing and just plain complicated.
Enjoyable stay at the Florence Garden
Enjoyable stay at the Florence Garden hotel. Excellent & friendly service from all the team.
Thank you so much for a great stay. Clean and spacious room and the staff were so friendly and helpful. Food was excellent too.
Amazing hotel, great staff and food, but cleanliness left a little to be desired. Windows and bathroom don’t look like they’re done regularly.
Great property. Friendly and polite staff. Convenient location. Can recommend.
Friendly staff, nice rooms, walking distance of most attractions
WORTH A VISIT
This is a very nice hotel (our second visit) and the rooms are very comfortable and clean! All the staff are very pleasant and helpful. There was a good choice for breakfast, well cooked and nicely presented. The property is close to the seafront and within walking distance to a number of good restaurants.
Nice hotel near seafront
We had a 1 night stay in a standard double room. For the price we paid it was very good. Room was small but very clean and nicely decorated, no view out the window. Bathroom too small to dry yourself in and the toilet is right up against the door. They do provide a kettle but the cord is short so to reach the socket I had to put the kettle on the floor and the tea cups need to be bigger. Staff were lovely especially the reception supervisor who was very polite and helpful and when I asked for a fan she brought one straight up. Hotel is a collection of lovely old buildings in a residential road close to the seafront. Reception gave us a permit to park in the road round the back. Breakfast was busy so had to catch the attention of staff to get a menu and order. Food was nice but poached eggs hard. I would stay here again but would pay for a bigger room.
Few minutes walk to the beachfront
Disappointing
Pleasant but not as advertised! We booked an executive room for 6 nights. The bathroom was diabolical the toilet inches from the wall making it impossible to use comfortably. We politely asked for another room but was told it would cost a further £100 to move .The staff seemed dismissive, so we had to take the option but not happily .The photographs on the hotel site show a large bathroom exactly as you would expect from the term executive . To me executive indicates plush and spacious. Breakfast was ample but for six days they couldn’t get the order right and on the last day it seems we were forgotten and had to alert them we were there , Breakfast took 1 hour . We paid extra for parking yet on two occasions we couldn’t park in the spot allocated, once they moved the culprit the second time we had to park in another bay ( not a big issue ) but again spoilt the overall experience. We love the area and plan to return but won’t book here again . Seems they lack in customer service and should advertise the rooms accordingly .
Had a nice stay - the staff were lovely and loved the new conservatory/restaurant area. There were a few things in the room that could have been improved and the soundproofing wasn’t the best (was woken and kept awake by someone watching a movie into the early hours) but the bed was comfy and the room was clean. Breakfast was delicious but would have liked a continental selection or the ability to have fruit and yogurts etc. location is perfect for southsea.
Lovely Stay
Stayed here in the executive suite which had everything we needed. The staff were friendly. Lovely cooked breakfast, i did think it was continental breakfast as well but just cereal which we had to ask for but other than that everything was perfect. Lovely garden. Very clean. The seafront is just a short walk with electric scooters parking to ride which were very cheap and great fun.
Really great hotel
Such a lovely stay. Wish we could have spent more time there. Special mention to Barbara.
Lovely property with excellent, helpful staff and very good breakfast options. They are having some renovation work done at the moment but we were forewarned and it didn't affect our stay. We also got free upgrades on our rooms. Highly recommended and will be returning when next in Portsmouth.
Overnight stay.
Will stay again.
Wonderfull stay.
Lovely room in a superb hotel. Staff were very pleasant and helpfull. There was a very good choice of breakfast and tasted luvverrllee! Cant big the place up enough.
Wonderful as always
These guys are an absolute pleasure to stay with - everything’s set and the service is always friendly
Very clean, friendly staff. Fantastic location. Thanks
A Great Weekend
I stayed at the Florence House Boutique Hotel last weekend. The one night stay was for my Mum’s Birthday, and it was great! Everything was clean, all staff were friendly & very helpful & the breakfast which was included on our booking was amazing! The staff even put a Birthday card in the room for my Mum too, which was lovely. Would highly recommend to anyone.
Southsea Gem
A little gem tucked away from the parks and beach.
Comfortable, clean and staff polite. I would recommend it without hesitation.
Lovely rooms
The hotel room was very well presented and had good facilities. But the bed wasn’t very comfortable, and the parking was a problem
Amazing hotel
Lovely garden area for food, great weather, friendly staff overall we had an amazing stay hotel was brilliant definitely will be returning again
Lovely food and greqt location. Would recommend
The accommodation was spotless and the breakfast was lovely. Place is i a wuiet residential area, about 3 mins walk to seafront and 10 mins walk to main road with the restaurants and bars, so location was excellent. The only minor issye was that the roons are small but uf that doesn't worry you then I woukd definitely recommend this place.
Property very nice and close to the beach. Also well kept and very clean. Friendly staff. The hours of serving food in the evening ends too early, stops at 19:00 pm!! Having a hand shower in the bathroom is essential, also they need to provide shower caps.
Fab stay
This is the third stay at the Florence suites and I can highly recommend for location and a fab breakfast!!
Really nice hotel.
Really nice hotel, split into three buildings, but that doesn't detract. The only issue for us was the broken tap and shower head in the bathroom. These weren't showstoppers, and they still worked, but easy to repair and would give a more professional presentation.
Overall a pleasant stay. I would stay at this property again.
Clean , awkward parking . Expensive
Nice room , good breakfast . Awkward parking and at £129 expensive . Will not be repeating .
Highly recommended.
Friendly welcoming staff, property and rooms were clean and well maintained. The breakfasts were freshly cooked to order and used quality ingredients. Overall a very pleasant place to stay.
Lovely stay at the hotel, only thing I would say is though the parking is free you are given a permit for the road outside there are lots of parked cars and it’s hard to find a place to park. The road is also very narrow so larger cars depending on what is parked there already can be tricky!
Florence boutique
Lovely decorated and clean room. Very comfortable bed enough pillows, excellent shower and close to bars and pubs within walking distance.
2nd visit vor us great hotel great breakfast met somelovely locals in there pub a short walk from room.
Would chose somewhere else next time
Hotel was lovely with good decor. Basic room was very cramp for the price paid. The TV did not work. We paid for bed and breakfast and found the breakfast was not served until 8am on a Sunday and were offered no alternative in the way of a packed breakfast so a bit disappointing. Staff not very friendly and helpful, we were given the wrong room number which was a bit embarrassing when we tried to open the door with the key card.
Not up to previous reviews.
Because of Covid restrictions we had to do our own cleaning. ie make the bed each day, wash cups and saucers, so this took a lot of benefits from the hotel. Not their problem, but maybe hire extra staff ?. Breakfast was in an attached house, which was fine and staff their very attentive. Also parking was in road and you had to hope a space was available. Maybe we are too fussy, but when you are in your 80's you expect certain standards.
Second stay at Florence boutique suite
Room had been refurbished so nice and clean. Quite a lot of noise from new garden restaurant. Service at breakfast on Sunday a bit slow.
A positive review
Positives are the attention to detail with the breakfast and evening meal - they were both very good, particularly considering covid restrictions. Nice spacious bedroom. Great location for walking to the seafront and Southsea. Would return.
Cute hotel and lovely staff Breakfast was definately worth including!
Great Stay
The hotel was spotless, light airy and welcoming. The room was lovely, all facilities you could want and good tea and coffee making facilities. The bed and pillows are really comfortable, I have stayed in a number of rooms and this one is one of the best I’ve ever been in. Also worth noting the receptionist was so friendly and knowledgeable, told us the way to the restaurant we booked and offered great service.
Nice rooms, little smaller than anticipated but nice nonetheless. Short walk away from shops and restaurants and the seafront. On street parking available with a permit from the hotel. Breakfast was nice with a choice of cereals and cooked breakfast. Nice comfy bed.
Great breakfast comfy bed and close to shops and pier
The shower in Room4 has black mold between the tiles and water was not hot. No shelves in the Bathroom or anywhere to hang towels. Colud not get into hotel and had to wait in the pouring rain for someone to open the door!! Very small bed and room for the price!! The breakfast was overcooked and we had to wait a long time ie under staffed.WE WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL TO ANYONE. It was more like an oldfashioned B & B not a HOTEL.
Truly lovely
Absolute bargain. This hotel is so lovely. Wish i coukd have stated for more than 1 night. Would highly recommended
What a let down...
Such a disappointment. The small room they gave us, not inexpensively, was remarkably small...no room for a bedside table or lamp on one side, and occupant of other side in danger when trying to alight from the bed. The bathroom was no better...impossible to shave in such a confined space...shower problematic too. No room in the "Car Park" on arrival. The one positive thing was breakfast which was was enjoyable
Average room but great breakfast
Description of room exceeded reality. Difficult location of sockets, no shelf in the shower, loud music from neighbouring properties audible in the room. Breakfast was fab though, exceeded expectations after thr mediocre room.
Nice standard of accommodation in a set of ‘joined-up’ properties just back if the seafront. Comfortable room, pleasantly furnished. Excellent breakfast.
Great hotel, very near to all tourist attractions
The staff were very friendly and professional. Even though I know i booked for a small double, it was too tight to fit in the bathroom and we felt a bit trapped in the room. We went when the weather was lovely and it was too warm no air coming in. But I did ask for fan and they did provide me one. Also, the parking is terrible. We had to park far away from the hotel twice, cos no access to the “car park” only it just fit about 5 cars, even then it was a very tight squeeze also. But the place is very clean, and the staff were amazing. i would def come back again but maybe in a bigger room (there weren’t any available at the time) and when it isn’t as busy cos of parking.
Very clean room, lovely place to stay
Parking is a pain as only on street. Location is close to the beach.
The small double room was larger than expected it was perfect for our stay, the bed was very comfortable. The breakfast was freshly cooked, there was an excellent choice and the staff were helpful and friendly, will definitely stay again
Warm, friendly and convenient in Southsea!
What a wonderful group of hotels in the Southsea area of Portsmouth. We stayed three nights and our only regret was that we hadn't booked for longer! Rooms are lovely and clean. Staff were helpful and knowledgeable. We included breakfast and really enjoyed wait staff and quality of breakfast and the menu options available. We walked to/from the historical dockyard area three times (approx. 30-40 minutes each way). We also loved the Florence Arms affiliated pub just round the corner!
A really nice comfortable hotel Be aware Sat nav takes you to the next road Free parking in the road hotel supplies permit but we could only find a space 200 m away, not a huge issue
Great location on a quiet road a stone’s throw from the seafront. Convenient for all area attractions.
Everything good
Everything’s are good although the toilet’s exhaust fan didn’t work. There was self parking aera on the roadside, but it is first come first served. When we came back late, we should park the car far away from guest house.
Property was very unique in three houses turned into boutiques, clean and restaurant, pub and breakfast area all close by
Beautiful
The hotel was beautiful, very clean. Staff was amazing. Was very impressed overall
The staff.... what can I say abut them..... I can't praise them enough. Friendly, welcoming, knowledgeable, informative, helpful.... an absolute delight. The room was lovely, clean, a generous and comfortable bed. A good shower, always a bonus. A few minutes walk from the sea front and to a nearby precinct with shops, restaurants and bars. Perfectly placed to be honest. Parking is on street, but they provide a permit so it's free. Allow time to find a space though as it can be in a different street. The only thing I am sure was just an oversight was that there were no towels. Reception was 24hours so I could have called and asked, but I had my own and it was late when we realised. I would definitely stay here again, and in their sister hotels in the area too.
We were very impressed with the hotel, the room was lovely , very clean and modern. Breakfast was superb all freshly cooked to order with unlimited beverages and toast. We would definitely return and will recommend to family and friends
What a find! Such a beautiful room! We were meant to be staying at no Mans fort but the boat was cancelled so this was a last minute booking. Couldn’t be happier. We were on a Dinner Bed and breakfast rate which was extemely good value, Our evening meal at the Florence Arms was delicious and the waiter had been told it was our anniversary and went out of his way to make us feel special. All the staff were so friendly, kind and helpful. Breakfast was also delicious. Location was perfect. Just a short walk to go for a stroll by the beach, Southsea Castle and visit the incredibly moving D-Day Museum . Highly recommend the hotel.
Second visit to this collection and it was a lovely stay. Reception staff were welcoming and helpful. Compliments to the chef at breakfast. We visited the Florence Arms which had a wide variety of ales available with great service and again, compliments to the chef for the food. Only negative was that it would of been nice to have some bottled water in the room.
A nice hotel and good choice for Portsmouth
The Florence Suite Boutique Hotel certainly lived up to its name. Conveniently located near to the Portsmouth seafront, this hotel is actually a few houses which have been converted into rooms. My room was comfortable with nice furniture and a good shower. Breakfast was a selection from a decent menu and was the first time I saw other people at the hotel. Reception was a little tricky to find and Portsmouth parking is difficult at the best of times. Neither ruined a great stay though - recommended for either business or leisure.
What a lovely classy hotel. Very reasonably priced top class accomodation finished to a high standard. Staff were very friendly and well the breakfast .... what can I say it was 1st class. Hot and tasty locally sourced produce. Will definitely look at another stay here
Better for leasure than business
Great staff, really comfy rooms however as it's split over 3 houses it's a bit of a faff for things like breakfast and getting an iron. Great place for a leasure stay, not so much for business as breakfast is not fast (although does taste great!)
Lovely clean room ,elegant decor, large towels, friendly helpful staff and yummy breakfast. What mre could anyone ask for.
Perfect stay
A great hotel. Friendly reception, spotless comfortable room and great breakfast. Couldn't ask for anything more.
Very nice. However a room on the ground floor of the houses is very loud. You can hear the people above and outside very clearly and loudly. They can probably hear you too.
Good all-rounder
Good all round but the only negative was breakfast not hot enough
Nice hotel in good location
Nice hotel in good location however a real problem parking. Upgraded on arrival but would have preferred to stay in the room we had chosen. Facilities good but unfortunately one of the toiletries had been half used. Mismatch of furniture doesn’t quite gel together. Small terrace was extremely disappointing Breakfast good with lots of choice.
Lovely hotel, but tiny room
Dining area was lovely and breakfast was good. Staff were very pleasant and attentive. Disappointed with size of room: we could not get past each other round the bed. Bathroom was also tiny, we could barely use the little sink. So overall, with another room it would have been great, but we will not be returning due to the room size.
Good value for money
Small room but has everything you need. There's a gastro pub round the corner which is owned by the same people and is very convenient for late travellers. Parking is a little tricky.
Lovely boutique hotel not far from city centre
Beautiful rooms, nicely decorated. Good breakfast. Parking okay but round back more likely to get off road. Only downside was rooms above getting up early for the ferry waking ground floor room up. Not their fault - it’s that nature of the buildings.
Wedding Anniversary quality time together
Lovely, we had a super time didn't want for anything. We would have preferred mugs on the tea & coffee tray or a teapot would have been good for the pretty cup & saucers.
Fantastic hotel, with warm friendly service
Fantastic hotel and great service. The Florence Arms and Kitchen restaurant which are part of the hotel group are both a delight.
Great location for Southsea, shops, bars and restaurants. Friendly, helpful staff. Would stay here again.

Really comfortable hotel, extremely well-presented. Easy parking in the road with a complimentary parking permit. Absolutely no point paying for a parking space. Would definitely stay here again.
