VERY DISAPPOINTED

We went to spend my wife's 60 th birthday . I informed the hotel telephonically prior to my arrival .At check in I reminded them and the lady who was checking us in said that it was on their system.However , the hotel totally forgot that it was my wife's birthday on Sunday , 8 December . Not even a happy birthday wish from the hotel,That spoiled a otherwise pleasant stay.

Excellent service. Might be better if they recognised returning loyal customers BEFORE they arrived.

Pre/Post Safari Stay

Stayed here pre and post safari. Exceptional service, accommodations and food. The staff is extremely attentive and polite. Highly recommend.

Everyone is wonderful except for the utterly unhelpful check in staff

We had an excellent stay. The staff and service in particular was outstanding. This is a gem of of place beautifully decorated in lovely grounds. We stayed in one of the Treetop villas - marvellous and would definitely comeback again.

Amazing place. Amazing people and services

An unexpected Gem. After many years of staying in different hotels around Jo'berg and Pretoria I had never stayed here. Thanks now changed and Fairlaws is now my hotel of choice. Really nice old school hotel with an amazing setting.

Disappointing - not a 5 star experience

The only to thing going for this hotel is the decor of the rooms, which is really interesting and of high quality. Other than that, this isn't a five star hotel experience. The first room we were given felt more like a basement room as it was so dark. We found blood on one of our cushions, the shower didn't work, the outdoor pool area was in neglect - the pool wasn't clean, and wasn't cleaned during our stay. The airport transfer was nearly 1000 rand (we think it would 200 on Uber). When I asked for a bottle water at 2230I was told that the bar had closed so having some water wasn't possible until the morning (in the end, the receptionist found a bottle of water behind the reception desk). The spa is well done, but unfortunately the time we picked to go, was during load shedding, so the indoor pool and jacuzzi were tepid, and the steam room and sauna not possible to use. We understand the reasons for load shedding but would have appreciated if the hotel had told us in advance of the load shedding time, or even on arrival at the spa. Not after when we had changed, and ready to use the spa facilities. So all in all, disappointing experience and think some areas of the hotel need a bit more TLC.

I'd always wanted to stay at Fairlawns, it's beautiful. The staff were kind when they serve you however they weren't always easy to catch. The rooms are grand and spacious. The birds wake up around 2am and chirp until about 5am so if you're a light sleeper you might find it difficult to get the zzzz's. Luckily for us we have many birds at home however they chirp from 4am-5am. Overall I recommend

Beautiful hotel and rooms Terrible service not professional and personal at all

It was an amazing stay.

Bad start but ended ok

The booking started off very badly, when we arrived they had no record of the booking made through booking.com. After 10 minutes they found it in there spam folder. The room was not ready that they gave us, empty beer cans in the cupboard. Then the TV remote did not work and the person to fix it was not on site. I insisted we move rooms which they agreed. Thereafter the stay was fine. They coped our dinner to apologise.

A memorable anniversary treat

Everything was amazing! Staff were very attentive, the room was beautiful (a door to the bathroom would have been a practical addition), and food was delicious. We had spa treatments and they were great!

Well impressed to say the least. Everything was top class. Staff, Food, Rooms, comfort. This place has oodles of personality too and is incredibly well decorated. I was given a guided tour of the outdoor pool, spa area as well as dining rooms, private function rooms and accomodation sections and I also learned about the history of the building, owners and some of the more famous guests that have stayed here!! Special mention to the chef too! - Both Dinner and Breakfast were amazing.

It's always wonderful to stay at Fairlawns, the excellent surroundings, the luxurious comfort and ambience is second to none. Its the place to be if one is looking for a home away from home experience. The kitchen's attention to detail was impressive, especially their ability to serve a perfect dish that's not on the menu in order to meet guest requests. Service providers who go out of their way to meet the guests' needs will always be the preferred service providers.

Good stay

Stay was overally good. The service in most areas were good. Very welcoming and friendly receptionists and lovely breakfast buffet. Room was good and clean, and large enough for our family of four which we stayed in the Villas. But I definitely expected more from Fairlawns being a five star hotel and at the price you pay. For me there seems to be a gap for what I paid and what I got from my stay. There are some four star hotels I have been to where either it was similar or exceeded what I experience at Fairlawns.

The Best of Value for the Money spent.

Great stay at a gorgeous hotel

Comfortable stay in a spacious and luxuriously fitted room at Fairlawns. First class service and good food. The decor and manicured gardens really contribute to the hotels ambience. One thing to note, while the wooden blinds are pretty, they do not completely block out light, so carry a sleep mask if this will disturb you.

Luxury Boutique Hotel in Beautiful Garden Setting

Fairlawns is a beautifully appointed luxury boutique hotel set amongst extensive gardens. It is hard to believe that you are close to the bustling Sandton shopping and business areas - but you are! It is luxury all the way, from the moment you arrive to the moment you leave. A warm towel and fresh juice welcomes you at reception. You are escorted to your room and the room's amenities are explained to you. The staff are courteous and well trained. Our room was large and stately. The bathroom too. French Provincial style. The pool area is great for relaxing and the patio is a lovely shaded area where you can enjoy a glass of wine or a meal. Breakfast is served on the patio. We had dinner arrangements so did not dine in the restaurant - Amuse Bouche - but it looked lovely! Next time!

Excellence and Luxury

It's always the most amazing place to stay. The reception was excellent, personal and the staff were attentive. The feel of luxury is second to none and the staff go the extra mile. Everything promised is delivered. The new Amuse Bouch restaurant delivered excellent gourmet meals both for the á la carte dinner menu and breakfast which offered some tasty healthy and vegetarian options.

I am so glad I chose to stay at Fairlawn. I wavered between a hotel chain and Fairlawn. I needed peace and rest and I got tis at Fairlawn. The staff was amazing! Like truly amazing. Neil, Andries, Madelyn, Andre, Sherri and so many whose names I cannot recall were so accommodating.

If you are looking for a widen getaway

The hotel deserves the rating that's shows (5 STARS), all one looks in a hotel could be found either in the room or just outside the room. Amazing main facilities including the SPA. A true widen gateway and so close to Sandton, I thought that I could not be surprised anymore, and here it is.

The little Paradise of Johannesburg

It was the best home away from home stay that I have had in a long time. The hotel more than exceeded my expectations. The hotel is exquisitely decorated with a great opulence that provides the feeling of Paradise on earth.... The staff is more than helpful and always ready to serve but without being in your face all the time.

beautiful hotel & grounds. service was not as good as i would have expected. long wait at checkin , room was not ready. when taken to room, lights not working & bad smell in room. had to wait until another room was made up. food was average!
