The rooms were nice and the breakfasts were great. Staff was very friendly and helpful when needed. I would definitely stay here again.

It's fine. Not a 5 star hotel. I'd rate it 3.5.

I checked in and nobody said anything about the A/C being broken. Room was hot. I was told to just open windows. My room was above a bar across the street. I had to use ear plugs and could still hear the bar late into the night. They didn't have separate sheets, just a comforter/duvet. I had to take the sheet off that due to the heat.

Overrated and Mediocre

Definitely not up to our expectations. Hotel Europe is rated as being 5 star, however the service and breakfast was mediocre. The heating was not working in our room and couldn’t be fixed. We booked for 2 adults, yet were only provided one teabag and one sachet of coffee daily. The only positive aspect is the location which is excellent.

Charm of old design and paintings on the walls. Staff was excellent too.

Not what I expected. First room had no electricity. They moved us to another room. It had electricity but the shower was not working. There was a tub available as well, but not everyone can climb over the tall tub. Once we checked out we were told parking was extra . That was disappointing. Breakfast is included and it was 10 out of 10 ! Staff is friendly . Rooms are nice size . Overall its an old hotel, it could be improved with remodeling.

Highly recommended

Lovely hotel. The Viennese cafe is beautiful. The cafe and the bar are really good value for money, not the usual hiked up hotel prices. The corridors have a nice decor and the rooms are nice. I had a great view overlooking the garden and the Gazi Husrev-beg Mosque which was lit up nicely at night. Rooms have an extra bit of security when you go out - you get a standard key lock as well as digital card entry.

It's very convenient location, walkable and safe.

The part I didnt like us that I called and ask if spa is in the price before booking room. When I arrived I asked about spa I was told I have to pay for spa. I thought it was misunderstanding i went to spa and ask if it is included if it is ok to go. The man said its ok but need to turn out sauna. Sauna didnt get warmed up and I had to leave. Before leaving he charged me for Sauna. Otherwise all was great

Hair dryer didn’t work. No conditioner. Can’t control a/c in room. No iron (yes, they do have the service, but what about if I don’t want the service or I’m in rush??). Not clean for 4-5 star hotel & that price in Bosnia!! Garage too small - sometimes no place to park. Very dirty going through hallway to garage!! Very dirty in garage!

Excellent location

This hotel seems to be too big and unwieldy for the management to cope with. We were mystified by how it managed to rate 5 stars, unless this is just a tick-box scheme which is completed by the hotel itself. Our first stay there, earlier in the month was dire (and we have reviewed it as such). Our second stay (which, to be honest we regretted having booked) was a bit better – the hotel seemed to have got itself together, and our room was ready for us, the staff were no longer ignoring or glaring or shouting at the guests. It was surprising that the safe in the room was too small for a laptop computer and there was, apparently, no other form of safekeeping for valuables in a hotel of this supposed stature. And the tea/coffee making facility in the room still consisted of one sachet of Nescafé instant coffee and one Hibiscus teabag. Altogether, the Hotel Europe was quite a strange experience, which didn't do justice to the beautiful, interesting and otherwise welcoming town of Sarajevo, which has done so much to recover from its painful history.

This visit to the Europe hotel was chaotic, unwelcoming and hostile to the guests. We were not given a room with a double bed, as we had requested, and were then moved to a room where the electricity was not working, and nor was the air conditioning. The shower mechanism was incomprehensible, the tea/coffee-making facility consisted of one sachet of nescafe and one herbal teabag. A lot of guests were complaining about the air-conditioning and we heard a receptionist shouting at them, rather than solving the problem. We were sitting in the bar on our first night, and the lights were suddenly turned off and the staff all walked out without a word to us. When we sent an email about all this to the hotel group manager, as we had been advised by one of the receptionists, the manager told all the staff off, and sent a bottle of wine to our room as compensation. We had no way to open it so reception sent someone to do that, and he seemed to expect a tip for his services – he clearly hadn't been told that this was our meagre compensation for all the bad things that had happened. The manager did not reply to us, or apologise or wish us a good stay.

Really good value, location and very friendly service.

Great location. Helpful front desk and housekeeping staff. The restoration from the fire during the siege lacked charm and warmth. I wish they had tried to restore to something more like it was, more like the Viennese Cafe. Breakfast was good and varied. Coffee was poor. A 5 star hotel should do better than a convenience store coffee machine. I love Sarajevo, but not sure I would stay at the Europa again.

Great location, hotel is outdated and needs major upgrades.

The lobby is boring and unwelcoming looking. The elevator is hard to see tucked in a corner and recessed. The reception desk looks like something for an office, low to the floor were employees sit at the desk. The desk has no interesting design. The colors/wood paneling are dark and depressing and are found throughout the room hallways which are extremely dimly lighted. The connected Becka Kafana Viennese cafe is beautiful, has good food, including pastries, coffee and service and prices are low, but is generally empty. I guess it's too traditional and upscale looking for people. The outdoor dining area is very large, pleasant and casual and looks at the ruins of a wall and the old shopping gallery building. It has a very limited evening menu so I went to the cafe.

There were 2 weddings over two night's with noise till midnight. Awful experience. The hotel didnt notice mevin advance. I wrote the manager and he never responded.

The location is outstanding, right in the middle of Baščaršija, a moot Sarajevo attraction.

Our room seemed to have been in repairs. Beds were ackwardly located and ot gave an impression of an auxiliary room. The cleaning cart on the sixth floor has been sitting in our corridor throughout our stay.

The location is absolutely perfect and the hotel is elegant, quiet, dignified - a taste of Europe as it should be. The dining room, which is also a grand cafe open all day, is one of the most beautiful rooms in Europe and the food and service are superb. The rooms are very spacious, the bathroom is first rate - large tub plus large show, bidet, etc. And the rooms are completely quiet - no street noise - and they are serviced beautifully. WiFi works great. The Spa, however, is not great: the pool is open, but you have to phone 30 minutes in advance to use the sauna, and massage was booked up (they need more staff!). No steam room, apparently, and the exercise room is quite small.

The hotel has the best location in Sarajevo, in the middle of the old town. It is large and comfortable with a number of practical facilities. the breakfast was good. The rooms are spacious and well equipped.

The hotel is very aged. The rooms were not clean. Housekeeping ignored the do not disturb sign on the door. Breakfast was very little in selection and bad in quality. At check out, I was asked to pay although the room had already been prepaid. When I pointed this out it turned out to be a "misunderstanding"...

Heard a lot about this hotel , mostly positive ! Usually stay at the Marriott property but decided to give this a shot , let’s just say the view is the only thing I can compliment! Customer service absolute 0, no greet no hello. I literally walked in and the lady said “ da” meaning yes ? I have bags with me what do you think I want ?! Bed was clean but the bathroom was not , hair found on the floor and sink , stains in the outdated furniture! I have here just for two nights and the location was good so I did not leave but I’ll never be back. So disappointed!

Hotel Europe has an excellent location. Rooms are spacious and have comfortable beds and large bathrooms. Breakfast is rich and delicious. Lobby and reception could use refurbishment but it is only a minor thing. After all, I was very satisfied with my stay.

Right at the core of Old Town

The hotel is next to the Old Town, which is rather convenient. The swimmingly pool is wonderful and the room we had is quite spacious. The beds are somewhat too soft for me, though.

I found a bug in my bed, The bathroom shower, even with the instruction sheet in the shower stall did not work and parts of the bathroom, including the toilet paper roll holder where falling off the wall.

Perfect location but dated

The hotel is in the perfect location, everything is waking distance. Service and staff was very nice and helpful. We had a large room but it was a little dated at the bathtub needed work, it definitely showed signs of wear. I would say this is more a 3 star hotel.

Wonderful stay at Hotel Europe

We had a wonderful stay at Europe hotel in Sarajevo. Probably the best feature of the hotel is it's location, right in the middle of the historical section. The rooms are comfortable and the breakfast is delicious. We would definitely stay here again.

Friendly staff. The hotel itself is a bit dated. I prefer a more modern look.

Perfect for Sarajevo!

The staff was extremely responsive to all our random requests making our stay very comfortable. The location cannot be bettered...and the rooms were nicely done, quite large. The one thing I would like to have had was more space for my toiletries in the bathroom.

High Marks fir Hotel Europe - Sarajevo

Hotel Europe is licated right in the Old City Center of Sarajevo, Bosnia and serves everyday travelers as well as diplomats and movie stars. It is an ikder but very well-maintained property that I highly recommend because of gracious and attentive staff with excellent English-speaking reception desk personnel. The breakfast buffet is included in the room price, and I rate as 5-star plus.

Location was the bests . Breakfast was incredible with traditional dishes in the menu and in the buffet . The people were pleasant and it was efficient . They accommodated our late arrival and helped coordinate the taxi service to and from the airport, which was by far the easiest of our travels

I did not like the fact i could not turn on AC when i needed it (i was told “the hotel did not switch to summer time”-not sure what that means). Also very poor sound isolation (hotel is in a very busy neighborhood). On the other side, service (and i mean everyone from reception to maintenance etc.) was far and above expected. Very friendly, helpful, kind, available, always with the welcoming smile on their faces... and i can go on and on. The greatest assets this hotel has, is its staff.

It's not a 5-stars hotel. Bathtube and shower leak water, pillows are uncomfortable, there are no coffee-tea maker at the room and they do not provide a courtesy bottle of water. Their only asset is the fantastic location but since taxis are cheap in Sarajevo it worths to check other alternatives.

Bad services

I’ve paid for double deluxe room but they gave me a small standard room and refuse to change it or at least to refund the difference. Many aspects like missing inportant items from the room and others ( but the worse are the services) are making me to not come back anymore

I don't usually write bad reviews. But this hotel by far is the worst I have ever stayed in. When I checked in after a three hour wait. They checked me in a room with a wet bathroom and bed was just mad in a bad way, and I could bet they haven't even bother to change the sheets. The bathrobe was dirty. For tow days I left it on the bathroom floor to change and they hanged it again! although I raised a complain they didn't even bother. The hotel is old and rooms are small, Tv in the room is small, no coffee maker in the room, only three hangers for your shirts, one towel and one bathrobe and is dirty The only good thing about the hotel is in the middle of the old city and within access to everything around. But again all 5 star hotels are by far a 15min walk.

Limited Hotel Choices

There are limited "quality" hotel choices in Sarajevo. We selected hotel Europe, because of the location to the old section and had a decent rating. The hotel staff was excellent and extremely efficient. Our room was huge, the bed was comfortable and we had great services. The breakfast buffet was just ok, the wait staff was very good. It is not a five star hotel and for the price you pay - in Bosnia, for what you get, is a little bit too much. Despite the hotel not being 100% up to my liking I would go back.

Only the location is good, the room is dated and misconceived with an oversized room and undersized I'll studied bathroom. Service below average and getting out of the parking was a lousy scene from a bad movie with staff reluctant to help and shooting at each other..

I hate hotels Keep your passport for security

First of all the hotel doesn't seem like a 5 star hotel, not the lobby and neither the rooms, i left my passport with them for security as they've asked, however when I checked out they didn't even remember to return it back to me and because im not used to keeping my passport with the reception at any other hotel so i forgot to ask them to give it back to me, so i drove about 40 mins on my way to other city which is 2 hrs away from this hotel, so after driving 40 mins I remembered that they still have my passport so I drove back to the hotel to get my passport and thank God it was after 40 mins drive not the whole 2 hrs, after all the hotel is not worth the price and the Passport thing is the worst that any hote can have as a policy.. I would never stay in it again not for this price and never keep my passport again at any hotel

Sarajevo

a most enjoyable stay with an additional one night booked - the Europe Hotel central to everything got a decent room after second day with a great view, balconies and light - the first night the room was so dark and small i was ready to leave. The hotel is extremely dark made worse by the decor - dark wood, orange carpets and censored lighting - rooms are small the beds and bedding are most uncomfortable - am actually covered in bed bites on my legs - there is no iron for traveller expected to use the hotel laundry facility which gets expensive if travelling for 4-6 months as i am along with wait for return unless do express service - again the expense, also no tea or coffee facilities which is always nice. The breakfast is ok large selection refilled to cater for tour groups which hotels seems to do a lot of. They kindly packed a nice b'fast to go as checked out early to take bus to next destination. The hotel also offers a small pool in the basement, wellness massage facilities from early morning including Turkish bath and massage, a great bar lounge area and outdoor coffee facilities where you can watch the pedestrian traffic. The location is perfect - staff are helpful - overall worth considering.

Done with this hotel

This is (probably) the most beautiful hotel in Sarajevo on the great location. However, couple of serious problems - unprofessional staff (I've been coming to this hotel for 11 years now, no one ever helped me with my bags or even offered the help), too soft beds, one terrible pillow per person, couple of shampoos (?!?) and no conditioner and lotion, very unprofessional staff in the breakfast area (no help at all, they don't even know how to greet you, they take your plates away without asking). Check out - they never asked me how pleasant was my stay or anything like that. They never offered to call taxi, you have to ask them. Offering to take your bags to th garage? No way, of course! I love this hotel, but I decided not to go anymore. Two new Mariots are on the great locations too, rooms are beautiful and staff is amassing. I hope that somebody from Hotel Europe will read my review and improve the service, what is going on there right now is shameful for this historic hotel!!!

Excellent hotel in the middle of the city. Close to markets and major sights. Very helpful staff, although the floor layout and lift arrangements initially take some getting used to. Parking, at good rates, right under the hotel.

Great location in center of old town.

We had a comfortable stay at Europe Hotel. However, it was not of 5 star caliber. The hotel has only one tiny elevator serving some 7 floors and it was not unusual to wait for up to 5 minutes for a ride during busy times. While our room was large and comfortable, it did not have the feel of 5 star comfort. Staff was very pleasant and accommodating. I would recommend the hotel mainly based on location. It is adjacent to the old market and walkable to many dining locations , bars and entertainment.

Gorgeous views from a disappointing room

Fantastic location, the hotel room was disappointing. We were in the 'new' section, but had magnificent views. Plentiful breakfast. The room had problems when we arrived - bed not done properly, light bulbs not working, air conditioning making terrible noise, but all was fixed immediately. The elevator was very slow and crowded.

Central location, convenient for most attractions

We stayed for 5 nights which gave us time to visit most tourist attractions and to take a couple of trips outside the city. The hotel was always open and available no matter what time of day you returned there. Rooms were extremely comfortable, clean and, in the main, well appointed. As is frequently the case nowadays, an emphasis on elegant design led to some failures of function such as the almost total lack of shelf space in the bathroom. Staff were invariably friendly and helpful without being pushy. Food was good and varied in the restaurant, though snack provision in the bar was weak. Good place to be based for a visit to this delightful city.

A fantastic hotel in the very heart of Sarajevo with most of the city's tourist attractions within 5 minutes walk. The rooms are clean and quiet with good wi-fi. All the staff are very pleasant and always ready to help. All in, by far the best hotel in town and at a very reasonable price.

Relatively new building. Reception was per level, some clerk have no smile. Room is very wide enough for 2 people, which is comfortable, though bathroom had a slight leak from the tub. The lift should be placed more, since only one is extremely time-consuming for this building. Breakfast is sub per, nothing special. Parking is nice, though entrance is too narrow to pass through. Location is perfect for the access to old town.
