Warm ambience in their associated cafe with delicious food and friendly staff. Clean renovated bathrooms. Dark out curtains. Would recommend.
Staff were very efficient and pleasant. Room was well lit, clean and comfy
The executive room was well worth it! Walking distance from town. Great service and clean. Would stay there again.
Very clean comfortable room and ensuite. Very quiet despite location in a busy suburban street. Positives include: kettle and variety of hot drinks available in room. Very comfortable bed, plenty of spare pillows and, thankfully, spare duvet, as the room was quite cool. Plenty of wardrobe and drawer space, although not needed by us as we were only staying one night. The continental breakfast in the cafe was varied and plentiful, and included porridge, pancakes and toast if wanted. All the staff we met from checking in, and at breakfast were so friendly, cheery and helpful. Nothing seemed too much trouble, and we were able to leave our car in the car park beyond check out time, to enable us a couple of hours sightseeing before travelling home. Would definitely stay again next time in Oxford. Thank you for a lovely visit.
The staff is so kind and give me warm-welcome. I’m impressed by the facilities which is well modernised.
The property is well maintained with all amenities. The cafe is excellent. Very walkable to central Oxford. Highly recommended
Great
DO NOT BOOK HERE. This is one step up from a hostel, other than the food. Photos do NOT reflect what you get!! I booked a Delux Quadruple that was advertised as spacious. I got a ground floor room that stepped immediately onto the sidewalk with two beds, NO DRAWERS AND THE CLOSETS WERE STUFFED WITH SHEETS AND COMFORTERS. I discussed the discrepancies with the front desk person and her reply was, yes the photos are misleading on Expedia, but then I showed her the same photos on there website - no comment. When I asked about why I was paying the same amount for a cramped room the reply was “That is what you get today for that charge, the charges change daily” This is a place that misleads you and smiles while doing it. Three other guests were making the same comments as they had nowhere to place their luggage in their room as the beds left no space around them. BOOK HERE AT YOUR OWN RISK!!
Excellent stay. Staff was incredibly nice. Location is great as well.
The room was in the basement, underground
Cute little hotel but the rooms were spacious, clean and affordable. The cafe connected had great food and the staff were really nice. Short walk to Christ Church and City Center where all the action was happening. I really enjoyed my stay.
Bad experience in Oxford
This isn’t a hotel. It is a few random rooms behind and above a restaurant/pub. Minutes after checking in I found two fleas on me! We requested another romm and we’re grudgingly given one. This room (also behind the pub) was not clean. There were cobwebs on the light fixture, mold on the bathroom tile, holes in the drapes and an ant trap behind the toilet! The room was in an area that while convenient to Oxford was more than a little rundown. The staff were friendly enough and the breakfast was nice but I will not be staying here again. There are other rooms across the street in a separate building and maybe those are nicer but the rooms we saw were subpar.
Absolutely lovely stay!
The staff was so unbelievably kind - I cannot say enough good things about them! From the free snacks in the cafe through to putting the Olympics on during meals, we were really treated like family. Someone even helped me get my rental car out of the parking lot (which absolutely terrified me as an American). The location is great - right near the folly bridge, a convenient walk to everything while still being quiet and peaceful!
Staying here was delightful. The area was quiet and very close to great things to see in Oxford. We had a lovely dinner and continental breakfast while we stayed. The manager was lovely and accommodating. We will definitely be back on our next trip to Oxford!
xxx
Nice and clean. Close to downtown. Would go again.
The property was over—rated and very expensive, probably due to surge pricing. The cafe staff were incredibly helpful and that was the saving grace.
Lovely staff lovely breakfast. Close to all amenities.
The place needs some updating with bathroom walls pilling off and mould around the window. As soon as 7am arrives the whole building smells like breakfast and made the morning uncomfortable until we had to open the window in the room.
Our room was lovely and the waitress at diner provided amazing service. I highly recommend this place!
The hotel is really nice and it has a nice little restaurant/cafe. The staff was also really nice and accommodating as well. The only issue is that the bed wasnt as soft as we like
The staff were very friendly however this is not a four star hotel and the price did not reflect the accommodation. More like a clean two star hotel with great staff.
The staff were friendly and helpful.
Staff were very helpful and accommodating, great location and would recommend
Excellent little hotel
Good location, close to the centre of Oxforf. Our room was well equipped and comfortable, and the staff very friendly. We would happily stay there again.
Helpful and accommodating staff
We didn’t have a comfortable stay. Our booking of a deluxe quadruple room surprisingly, was actually at the basement of the property with no view. The floor was really damp & cold. Only one thin pillow for each person. One of the cups was stained and the bathroom door was faulty, couldn’t be closed properly. We were served continental breakfast (not full English breakfast), and free snacks & fruits during the stay. The hotel is situated in the residential area, about 7-8 minutes walk to the city centre. On site paid parking available. For £220 per night for 3 pax, on a weeknight, it is overpriced for a basement room :((
Comfortable stay, friendly staff, lush breakfast
Everyone was so friendly and welcoming. It was perfect for our night away as a friendship group! Breakfast was really nice and they were very accommodating for our dietary requirements. Thank you!
The staff was very friendly and accommodating but the room was not great. It felt damp and you could see visible areas of water damage. I would not stay again.
The hotel is a short cab ride from the train station and about a 15 min walk from the city center in a quiet residential neighborhood. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel had everything you need and was a good option for a family of four for a night stay.
Satisfaction
Excellent all round with especial thanks to Samira and Bushra for delightful welcome. Also for providing requested bath. You only lose a few points for the gap in the supposedly double bed. But we shall recommend you, indeed have already done so.
Truly lovely staff at this little gem of a hotel and cafe. Immaculately clean, well equipped and nicely situated on a residential street away from traffic and street noise. The fittings are a little tired in places but the bed was really comfortable, and lots of thoughtful touches. The staff however, were superb. Nothing was too much trouble and we truly felt well looked after. Well done Ethos.
We are frequent travelers and this by far has been a bitter experience. The room we were stayed was straight out of construction room. Carpets were getting off with the rolling suitcases, you could see u finished construction around the room . The room was located in an attic which was oddly shaped. Bathroom wall was dirty and stained. Window was making weird noises while the wind was blowing outside . Most annoying part was the room was on 3 rd floor without any elevators and very narrow and tiny stairs. We had no help tolling the large suitcases upstairs and when asked for another room, we were declined. We did not have a pleasant experience at all at this location. I would avoid if possible.
Wonderful Place to Stay in Oxford
Loved this hotel! Service was impeccable and the rooms were very clean. Their restaurant/bar was very convenient and served a lovely complimentary breakfast. Location was wonderful - just a couple blocks from boat tours and downtown Oxford.
This is a great location in Oxford! Great walking distance to many sights and streets. There were a few things within our stay that weren’t as pleasant. There was hard water mold buildup in the water kettle— not found until after the tea had been poured. Not a great surprise. Additionally, some dust buildup on the trim in the bathroom, broken temperature handles in the shower, and a hair on the bed-side table. Some rather pleasant surprises would be the heated floors and towel warmer, a lovely card and gift of wine in celebration of our anniversary, and the breakfast upgrade for our first morning. Thank you, Ethos!
The room was comfortable and clean. Nice selection of tea and coffee, fridge and microwave. Bed comfy, room warm. The breakfast is lovely, lots of choice. The staff were really lovely, helpful and friendly. The city centre is walkable. I'd advise you use the park and ride if you are driving to Oxford, very reasonable and easy to use. No street parking. We enjoyed our stay and reccomend Ethos Hotel.
All staff were very friendly and welcoming
Great base to explore Oxford with lovely staff
Location great. Staff extremely friendly and welcoming. The bed was a bit soft for my liking but otherwise facilities very good (particularly a sink, fridge and crockery/cutlery provided).
The best part of the experience is staff, who were very helpful and pleasant.
I stayed 2 weeks, it was a great place to work out of.
The Ethos was clean and comfortable and the perfect spot for one night in Oxford. It's a VERY short and scenic walk to the center of town. The breakfast was good. We especially enjoyed the varied coffee options and ordered lattes. Note, however, that if you require parking, you need to book it separately from your room and in advance because there is a limited amount. (It cost us about $12 for our night.) The spot we were given (in a very small lot adjacent to the hotel) was very tight. My son is a skilled and intrepid driver, so he was okay with it, but it would have been too daunting for me. So be sure to request a different spot if the one you're assigned seems hard to negotiate. I did notice some cars parked along the sidewalk by the hotel, and this seemed like an easy place to pull in.
An good property with a wonderful cafe on site. It is an easy walking distance from the hotel to Oxford colleges, shops and dining.
Wonderful staff
The property was very cute. Very close to the Oxford colleges.
Very nice hotel. Staff was wonderful and the breakfast at Ethos Cafe was excellent. Enjoyed my stay.
Nice people, clean room. Walkable to city center. Cafe is a very nice add to hotel. Would definitely stay again
Samira at checkin was lovely and extremely helpful. The adjoining restaurant has an excellent chef where i enjoyed a wonderful meal with fresh ingredients that were artfully combined.
Short walk to city centre. Large comfortable room with kitchenette. New condition.
Good place to stay
Staff were great, location very good and the Cafe was very convenient. The room floors were not vacuumed unless requested and the rooms were too hot.
Our room was a pleasant surprise with space, good bed comfort and clean.
We stayed at the property for two days. The room was lovely, fully equipped and had an air conditioning unit, which was fantastic as the temperature in Bath was in the 80s when we visited. There is a cafe downstairs for breakfast and other meals, also a bar with the most wonderful lady Anna. This is a small hotel within a 10 min walk to the city center. The parking in Bath is horrendous, I would highly recommend booking a parking spot at the hotel as soon as you book a room, they have eight spots around the area. Highly recommend leaving your car there for the duration of your stay and walk into town.
Modern and refurbished hotel, front of house desk and it was air conditioned. Staff were friendly, attentive and helpful. Breakfast cooked to your preference.
Charming hotel with even kinder staff
My mother and I had an excellent stay at the Ethos. Both of our rooms were spotless. The best part was the personal attention that the staff gave us. Bushra the manager and her team were kind and helpful with all of our requests and queries for Oxford advice.
The staff was over the top friendly and helpful.
Perfect for a quiet stay just outside busy central Oxford. The staff was exceptional, especially Samira.
Close to U of Oxford.
Great 3 night stay
Location is very good , very close to the river & Christchurch. Quality of food in Ethos cafe very good. All staff very friendly
Helpful staff, residential neighbourhood
The friendly front desk staff helped us with our luggage, helped us find our way around Oxford, and helped with our departure day dilemma as well. The room was spacious, clean, and very simple, and included all the amenities. Interestingly, the room and the bathroom both had skylights, which we didn't know could be covered with the touch of a button (instructions when checking in would have been helpful, a tiny quibble.) The layout is interesting; our room was across the street from the main hotel; even though it shared a tight entryway with the room next door, noise was not a problem. Ethos Hotel is in a quiet residential area a little off the beaten path, and it was a delight to walk along the Thames to get to the Folly Bridge and from there, easy access to Oxford. Breakfast in the Caffe Ethos (sic) was good, including excellent lattes.
Good Location
Good location - close walking distance to town center. The staff were very helpful and accommodating. The room itself was small for a family of four and fairly basic. But it was sufficient and was a good home base for exploring the region/city.
The staff were friendly
Great location, friendly welcome
Loved the ethos hotel, especially the really friendly and welcoming staff, and the on-site café was a real hit. lovely staff in there and very good, breakfast included in the price. Location very peaceful in a residential area. Will definitely return!
The hotel had a very nice room and it was very quiet at nice. Great location to take walks and get into downtown. The cafe across the street was very good. Overall very good.
Lovely place, close to city center. But mostly the staff are wonderful, I had left some clothes at the hotel and the staff were so helpful in helping me organise getting them collected. Really went above & beyond . Thank you Samira
Nice stay
Stayed for one night with my family. Reception staff very friendly. We stayed across the road from main hotel. Decor a bit tired and shabby. Bed very comfy and slept well. Breakfast was good. Porridge was delicious and good range for the continental breakfast. Need to offer a dairy free spread though for vegans. Overall an enjoyable stay.
The staff at the hotel could not do enough to help. They were so friendly and thoughtful. The continental breakfast was fabulous and free
Very enjoyable stay, staff were friendly and welcoming in both the hotel and the cafe. Room was cosy and clean with good amenities. We had breakfast at the cafe two out of three days which was excellent. Would definitely stay again
Nice Hotel close to Oxford town centre
Nice hotel/guest house walking distance to the town centre. Our room was in the Cafe house located across the road from the reception, nice room with a large bed which was very comfortable, decent bathroom. Overall a pleasant stay.
Business Trip
Comfortable Room in a great location close to the City
Good location
Good location. Always feel a bit odd staying on the ground floor, but it was very quiet. Only gripe was being asked to pay an extra £5 to park from check out time till 2pm. Given that we’d paid over £400 and an extra £20 for parking - it seems a bit mean spirited as no one else would be parking there.
Cosy and chic
Quiet. Good cafe. Staff polite and helpful.
Staff were very helpful and friendly. Would recommend hotel and would certainly stay again.
the host
Ethos is in a great location and the checkin was easy and the staff helpful. The biscuits with the tea and coffee is a nice touch.
Horrible experience
Our stay was cancelled as the hotel had no record of our booking, though I had a confirmation number and paid in full. The hotel was sold out so my wife and I, being in a foreign country had to scramble to make other arrangements. Had to travel to another town for availability and made what was part of my wife's 50th birthday trip a big disappointment. The hotel emailed their contact and requested a refund. I would think a refund and then some to make it right
STAY THERE! Wonderful hotel.
It was the second time and I was given my really cool room - and considering it was 35 degrees outside and I had fought my way up from Devon being slowly spit-roasted, I really appreciated the air-conditioning! Everything about the hotel is special and a distinct 15/10, especially my breakfast Eggs Benedict which was the tastiest I've experienced - the dish set me up for my ver hot business meeting! Thank you again everyone at the Ethos. Peter Sissons
Very comfortable room. Friendly and helpful staff. Parking is a problem. I booked through Expedia and the site said nothing about the need to arrange parking in advance. I parked at a public park about 10 mins walk from the site. Cost about £15 overnight.
It is convenient to the Centre of Oxford. Easy walk to everywhere and access to the HOHO bus.
The staff were all fantastic - very friendly, very quick to help. The rooms are a bit worn but that's a factor of time, not love. The rooms are compact and come fully equipped with everything one needs for a short or long term stay. I would definitely recommend!!
Room was clean and a good size. En-suite bathroom was nice and the small kitchenette in the room was a great size and a proper size fridge was really useful. Would definitely stay again.
Good location and price. Friendly staff. Would stay again.
Room 109 not acceptable
Location is ok to good Staying in the basement room for that kind of money is inexcusable. We would have NOT stayed here if that was our choice. Plus add the breakfast charge and the off site parking, no brainer go elsewhere, hence I would not recommend.
Quirky but comfortably
Quirky but very comfortable stay. Good sized rooms, great shower and super bed.
It appears this hotel consists of two homes or apartments converted to hotel rooms. The rooms are small, but have adequate closet space . The cafe is nice and breakfast was very good.
Room was a good size, staff friendly could have had more breakfast options.
Lovely clean and spacious room. Ideal central location for visiting the city.
Ideal city location
This was a very comfortable stay in a hotel ideally located ten minutes walk from the city centre. Staff were great and while it is clear that refurbishment is ongoing the suite I had was spotless and very comfortable
Terrific place!
This wonderful hotel is a three minute walk from Christ Church Oxford. It’s centrally located, clean and at least my room was totally refurbished. A huge shout out to Juliana for being wonderful!
Great location
A very nice hotel and central, approximately 15 minutes walk from the city centre. There is limited off road parking and the bar shuts at 10pm. The staff are very pleasant and helpful.
Friendly staff and great pizza
All staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good (and continental included in room rate, which we had not realised). Check in is across the road in their restaurant/cafe, but this wasn't an issue. We ate in the restaurant first night and the artisanal pizzas were first class. Only issue is that the wifi was very hit and miss. Otherwise no complaints and fully recommend. About 15 mins walk from city centre
Friendly staff
Staff were excellent- very friendly and cooperative. Room very clean and comfortable Great location for the city centre
On night in oxford
Friendly staff and very comfy bed! Coffee available in the room as well as desk and wardrobe and large shower/bath
The Ethos Hotel is very conveniently situated about 10 minutes walk from the centre of Oxford. Our suite was great, with a lounge area and kitchenette. Breakfast was very good. However the best thing was the staff - Giovanna was excellent, along with the new girl - I think her name was Fem. We will definitely stay there again on our next trip to Oxford.
This hotel is a bit of a "work in progress", with reconditioning and updating needed and in progress for both the property, then management and the staff. Location is walkable to the Main Street city center and Oxford campus. Much to see nearby. Note that this "hotel" in comprised of a collection of proximal rooms and flats in various buildings surrounding a central core house with a restaurant across the street. Needed renovations are underway and management systems and infrastructure are being developed.
Great stay
Had the sky loft suite for two nights, great room, soft bed and welcome pack included. Breakfast was great and staff friendly and helpful, near to the town centre and quiet at night, overall good stay!
Not a 4 star hotel
The hotel has a very nice lady receptionist from Poland. The hot full English breakfast is also good. Location is walking distance from the town centre. Unfortunately, I don’t think this is a 4 star hotel, the place is located at the residential area, it’s actually a Victorian row houses that were converted as hotel. The parking is at the back in which you have to pass a very narrow alleyway. In fact I almost scratch my car. You have to pay for the parking during your stay which I don’t think it’s worth it as it’s more cheaper to park in the town centre if you do a 24 hrs ticket and probably would even feel safer.
Basic but ok.
We booked a deluxe room, but the room was very basic nothing deluxe about it, but it did have the king size bed that we wanted. Could have been cleaner, but ok. More concerned that the fire doors were all held open, you could also smell the ‘greasy spoon’ smells from the kitchen everywhere and that make the fact that the fire doors were open even more concerning.
Disappointed
Had to ask to move rooms on first night. Room looked nothing like the pictures advertised, carpet frayed and an inch short of the walls, shower rail broken(had to hold in place), grout and silicone missing, toilet seat broken, generally tatty, had sink and oven in the bedroom!. Second room better but still short of what's advertised, rooms described as having designer wallpaper ( neither room had any wallpaper whatsoever! Staff however we're very friendly and helpful. Breakfast porridge was cold and has frozen berries on it.
Friendly, quirky but good value
Cannot fault the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff, but the hotel seemed a little tired. The communal areas needed a bit of attention. The net curtains in our room windows were frayed and there was a cobweb or two. But apart from the miscommunication about the VERY limited on-site parking availability, the location was perfect for walking into town centre for shopping or eating.
