A great choice to visit.
I had a delightful stay in early December. Although Air Canada was late arriving, the hotel taxi was there to meet me— and 2 gentlemen ere out on the sidewalk to welcome me. Fabian, desk manager, was hospitable and most helpful. Strangely the food servers were very distant. & cool. Breakfasts were delicious. English pub menu was dull— Spanish lunch menu was a hit with locals. Talented chefs.
It is nice quiet hotel. The room size is small. There is no elevator. The staff is supportive.
Beyond my expectations always excellent service
Coming here it’s a go to your family. They treat you with respect. The place is an absolutely great super location. The owner is awesome.
Me gusto mucho la amabilidad del personal y está cerca del centro de la ciudad.
Good Stay in San Jose
I had a short stay in San Jose to meet up with some friends.
Everything was to my satisfaction. No issues with checkin and staff was very friendly and helpful.
Staff was great and accomodating.
I loved this hotel! The staff were great, the property was nice and it was a beautiful hotel. The area around the hotel became unsafe after dark. I was glad that there were security persons and video cameras. The food was good and I loved the bar, too. It's not the hotel's fault that the area is unsafe after dark.
Charming hotel converted from two former mansions. Easily accessible to downtown San José and the Avenida Central, yet away from the noise, bustle, and traffic. Very nice, helpful staff. The personalized free breakfast is excellent and includes delicious local papaya & pineapple. I requested the pickup service from SJO for $35 and was met outside of customs by my private driver. I appreciated this safe, hassle-free way to get to Hotel Dunn Inn. Dinner and drinks are available in the large, airy dining room & bar. A peaceful respite after a day exploring the capital city and its parks, markets, and museums.
It’s my fourth time staying at the Dunn Inn and I love everything about it. Every single person there is amazing. I consider it my home away from home.
Nice heritage building, pleasant staff, good breakfast options included
Always approachable experience
I’ve been coming to this hotel for quite a few years and I love the place. Specially the staff is wonderful and amazing. I had a medical issue one time and they really help me out great guys. Thank you.
Great older hotel with character. The staff are friendly and attentive. The rooms are clean, air conditioning, theres a cafe and a good restaurant. I recommend staying here.
The hotel itself is fine, but we booked on the basis of it having a bar and restaurant open. On both nights we were there, neither was open. The area was riddled with sexworkers on every corner after dark, attracted by the busy and loud casino across the road. Would not book again.
It is in downtown area
Amazing staff!
I believe in being honest in reviews of places we’ve stayed. So that others — presumably mostly non-Costa Ricans — will know what to expect. At the same time, I want to be fair to the renters, because of challenges they face here that they wouldn’t in the U.S. Flying into San Jose airport, we made this our one “throw-away” stay-over before heading to our ultimate destinations far beyond the city. Which is to say we sorta knew what we were getting into. No illusions. This is definitely in-town San Jose, with all the good/bad that promises. Most of which we were up for. If you’re booking here, I’ll first say, MAKE SURE you aren’t assigned a room on the ground floor! That’s what we got, randomly assigned, and was basically like a prison cell. No windows whatsoever. Which even so, we might’ve endured without complaint. Except the shower was unspeakably bad, with shower head sending streams of water anywhere but on your body. The biggest OWN GOAL in hotel-keeping! Plus, no surprise, there was just this musty smell that no amount of dehumidification could overcome (despite small dehumidifier working round the clock here). One saving grace is they do have gated parking, though you have to go most of the way around the block to get to it. But is sufficient (ie, necessary), I’ll say. The best thing the property owners do is list on Expedia, which insures a high volume of American/European visitors, who we quickly learned to team up with. Front desk and wait staff excellent
Long Weekend Trip to San Jose
A quick stay in San Jose to visit some friends.
--- Wonderful Stay at Dunn Inn in San José!
My wife and I spent three delightful days at Dunn Inn in San José downtown, Costa Rica. The location was perfect, just a short walk to a lively casino and several museums. Our room was clean, comfortable, and well-appointed, and the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the delicious free breakfast each morning and the meals at the on-site restaurant. Overall, we highly recommend Dunn Inn for its comfort, convenience, and excellent service.
Quaint Quiet English TV AC WiFi
Great check in with multilingual front desk. Quiet clean interior room. English speaking television good AC, WiFi. Safe. Great housekeeping and maintenance staff. Nice breakfast. Convenient. But pricey convenience foods.
Fabian was very friendly on my arrival. Quick and easy access to room. Room was ready and clean. I have stayed several times at this hotel and had no issues staff or rooms.
Nice clean hotel with complimentary breakfast.
Very helpful and friendly staff!
Staff is very friendly and helpful!
Aesthetically pleasing and comfortable hotel with a tasty (though surprisingly empty) restaurant. Comfortable beds and good air conditioning. The area outside feels quiet and safe and is about a ten minute walk from the major tourist sights downtown. Some very good restaurants within a five minute radius. Our shower floor was very slippery so people with mobility issues may want to beware - I'm athletic/able-bodied and almost slipped twice. Overall a great stay and I'd definitely stay here again!
Everyone working there was so lovely. Rooms super clean and comfortable, beds were great, breakfast was delicious. The only down side was the street noise from the club, but everything else was great!
The properly was very well located and in great condition. Staff are extremely friendly and help you with anything you need. The shuttle service from the airport works perfectly, we had no issues arriving to San Jose at midnight. Highly recommend place
Two Night Stay in San Jose
This was a great spot to stay for two nights in San Jose. It was easy to walk to restaurants and the sights, and the parking was easy and convenient. It was nice to have breakfast included, and a coffee bar and restaurant onsite. The building has historic charm, but was still very clean and offered everything we needed. Our room was on the street level and the second night the bar across the street played very loud music till 5 AM. If you are a light sleeper bring ear plugs just in case, but that is what happens staying in the city!
The staff was welcoming, and helpful, especially Fabian. There is. security guard all night who is also friendly. The breakfast was delicious and served in a beautiful central area.
My favorite hotel in San Jose Costa Rica. The staff is amazing, they make me feel at home. Close to the national theater and other places.
The staff are awesome, the property old and most of the room don't have AC.
We started our Costa Rica experience at the Dunn Inn and 2 weeks later came back to finish it the staff are outstanding and the hotel is beautiful. Convenient, clean, and with onsite parking. We cannot fault the hotel.
Short stay in San Jose
I came to San Jose to see some friends that live there and I always stay at the Dunn Inn. The restaurant there is good also.
Overall good, but everything is a little bit old
Hotel Dunn Inn was great about helping us with airport transportation and communication. Everyone there was friendly and our room was spacious.
The property was oookay. The staff was stellar! We were lucky to meet Yaya at the front desk and she was seriously a breath of fresh air. She was welcoming and she had advise and ideas of what we could do on our way out. We were at another hotel and this is not what I was expecting at all... the professionalism and friendliness was top tier. I made a mistake with my booking and Yaya was so helpful and helped me not lose my marbles right there. Everything ended up working perfectly. We got a beautiful room. Now, their rooms do not have AC. It's a small hotel and booked thinking it will be on the way to the airport, no regrets because the staff there was just so wonderful! Breakfast was okay, not bad but it may be could be better, It is free so not a lot of complaints and they're really accommodating. The area is not bad but it can get really loud at night, if you deep sleep you wouldn't hear much like some people in our party. All in all it wasn't bad, it was affordable and you can walk to most things, it's not really in the middle of where it's all happening BUT if you are looking to have a nice, clean affordable place with staff that's really wonderful? then look no further.
I didn’t like having to climb stairs every time I came back to my room. It was more suited for a family vacation than a celebratory atmosphere
No window, bad shower.
We were given a room with no external window. The main window opened into the hotel's stairwell. The shower was terrible and the bathroom light was broken. The location is good.
the room was clean and comfortable. nice breakfast included. staff very friendly and helpful.
Everything was really good here. I very well maimtained property. My only complaint os that the wifi was spotty and not very good
The hotel is on a noisy street with a late night casino on the same block. My first room was on the street level and was very loud with traffic and people. When I changed rooms, I was given an interior space with no light or windows. On the upside the staff was helpful and the breakfast was lovely, but all and all, I would not recommend the Hotel Dunn.
Esteban at reception was amazing, as well Edson, sorry if I make a mistake with his name, they are very professional. In the restaurant, Jesus the bartender very friendly and professional, Fanny the server, great too. In general not a single complaint. Every employee we contacted or ask question was very nice. Totally recommend this hotel and I will return again. Thanks for everything. Pura Vida !!!!
I have been staying for years at the Dunn Inn when I am in San Jose. It's a great location with a lot of history.
Such a cute unique hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We liked the location being not quite as busy and chaotic as other parts of San Jose.
Room was very clean. Shower was hot, but temperature surged. I would stay her again. Staff was friendly and the breakfast was appreciated
I love it but miss the old menu at the restaurant
We enjoyed are quick overnight stay. The staff were very nice and super helpful with coordinating our pick up service.
The hotel stuff is totally amazing. Excellent guys.
We had a lovely stay at the Dunn Inn. We arrived much earlier than we expected to and they were able to allow us to check in early. The front desk staff was very helpful with directions and advice on modes of transportation. We needed an extra night and it was not problem. We also had to leave at 2pm and they scheduled transportation to the airport and gave us a snack to tide us over. I would happily stay there again!
Good downtown location
Very comfortable, great staff , good downtown location
This property is a combination of two old homes converted to a hotel. The rooms are simple, but very clean and comfortable. The house restaurant was the best we ate in during our stay. All of the staff at the hotel were tremendous and worked hard to make the stay comfortable. Highly recommend!!!
The stay at Dunn Inn in San Jose was a great start to our Costa Rica trip. The reception staff could not have been more friendly- we received a room upgrade and $10 off food & beverage with our VIP booking. We had a large, well appointed room with beautiful hardwood floors. The inn is two beautifully renovated homes in the heart of Barrio Amon. The food is good value for money. This is a great location for getting around San Jose which should not be skipped.
The location and restaurant were good. Didn't like not having an elevator.
Very noisy
Conversation in the next room perfectly understandable. Car traffic all night with short bursts of sirens interrupted my sleep.
Lovely staff in great location. I wish the water had been hotter but other than that it was great.
Photo of the room was nothing like the room I got. But staff and cleanliness get top marks
A Delightful Hotel
A delightful Hotel, the rooms were large and spacious. Breakfast could be a little more healthy if they substitute the bacon for something more healthy. The woman at the reception was delightful.
Great hotel with very accommodating and friendly staff!
Everything was great, except...the coffee at breakfast was the worst I have ever had in Costa Rica. Really bad coffee.
Go dunn inn !
Great service will stay again
Staff was very friendly and property was very clean
The hotel Dunn Inn is at a very good location near the city center but still on a quiet street. The rooms are comfortable and clean and the staff is very friendly and helpful.
Nice short stay
Good two day stay with a special friend
The staff was polite and helpful
Short San Jose trip
Short stay in San Jose to meet up with friends.
Well run! Everything very good and friendly
Short stay in San Jose
Two day stay in San Jose before going back home to the states to visit some friends.
nice
Really very nice feel hotel, staff really helpful and a nice bar attached as well
Dont go- night receptionist is cheat and pathetic
Pathetic experience. 2 days out of 3 there was ko water. 1 room guven to us did not have ac while we booked ac room. Worse, person at reception lied and took extra money. When we proved he is wrong, he just said he is just a employee and thats what is required out of his job.
Very prompt and courteous and personal service. Very good breakfas and restaurant.
I booked this hotel remotely for 2 senior family members (80+) to stay while awaiting their flight out of Costa Rica during the Covid-19 turmoil. They were well looked after and thoroughly enjoyed their stay. The location was good with nice dining and walking options.
It’s in rough part of town at night but perfectly safe in day time. It’s kinda small rooms but clean and safe Nice restaurant that’s not overly priced. It’s cool old place For the price you can’t beat it
Barely Ok for One Night
The front desk staff was efficient and friendly. The building is older but clean. The room and bathroom are very small and furniture needs replacing. The location is not in the best area and we would not choose this hotel again.
Barrio Amon is a beautiful convenient location. Cant beat the price! Has an excellent bar/ rest. Only inconvenience is parking block and a half away. Weve stayed there about 5 times now!
Liked the brickwork in the room. It gave the room a very earthy feeling, in keeping with the environmentally friendly attitude in the country. Water pressure was great and absolutely no problem with hot water. Every thing kept very neat and clean. The hotel is a short cab ride from all major tourist attractions, has a decent restaurant, extremely friendly and helpful staff. Highly recommended if you plan a holohay in SAN Jose
My windows was into the street and it was very noisy. Noisy room and not so clean
Rooms were nice and clean. Beds could be a bit more comfortable, but for the price I was pleasantly surprised
If on business or vacation and you want a a clean *** property with friendly staff, nice bar and a good restruant (try the tacos in Mole sauce. This is it. Great value, if you are not looking for luxury.
Excellent location in a colonial area of San Jose. Close to museums and a charming zoo of rescue animals. Good restaurants nearby.
Good I city location. Great price. Efficient staff, most English speaking. Good restaurant, try the special tacos and Tres Lechester.
Avoid at all costs!
You will be greeted by a grumpy front desk person who will tell you instead of a greeting that the hotel doesn't allow female prostitutes (apparently male prostitutes are okay?). Most of the rooms are in terrible condition. It looks like a cheap hostel which somehow gets good reviews and charges as if it was a decent 3* hotel. The first room I have got was nothing similar to what I have booked. I was told that there are no other rooms available and that I "shouldn't worry" because they will not charge extra for that horrible room. Well, thanks for that! When I asked to cancel the reservation the rooms that were "all booked" suddenly became available. The second room shown had no window and no ac and was essentially a storage room without ventilation for 90 euro. Only the third room was acceptable. The continental breakfast served is literally two pieces of bread, two pieces of cheese and two pieces of something not edible. To get this luxury breakfast you need to get a voucher in the reception. Summary for this place - avoid at all costs. And yeah, plan that the checkout will take at least 10-15 minutes because the reception will call house service (which is not within reach) to check the room to make sure you didn't steal an old broken chair and a towel in stains. Without this check you will not be allowed to leave.
The property sent me to a different hotel because they had plumbing issues. The hotel that i was sent to was dirty had mold all over the bathroom and walls and to top it off also had roaches. I had to ask to be move to a different room. I looked up the hotel they sent me to and the price is much cheaper than my original hotel.
Location! Location!
The hotel employees were very friendly and also very helpful. The location of the hotel was perfect for us. Nice neighborhood and walking distance to places we wanted to visit. Interesting older houses that were converted several years ago to become the Hotel Dunn Inn.
This hotel was disappointing in that it has potential but the staff was very unwelcoming. It felt that they were there to enforce rules and one better not get out of line, or else. We saw this treatment with other guests so know it was not just us. There are too many other friendlier places to have to put up with this treatment.
The team could it be more helpful, they made it a pleasure to be there
I stay here alot and i am treated like family..they are very accommodating and eager to help.from the general manager to the maintenance department very quaint with good location
This hotel is located a 5 minute walk from the city centre. The rooms are clean and the staff very helpful.
Treated unfairly.
We never stayed. Book the wrong dunn inn refused to refund the money.
Nice place, friendly staff, good breakfast and nice clean rooms.
The staff is always nice and willing to help. Restraint on site and safe.
I like the price. It has a good location and provides Easy access to things.
Great shower, no place for clothes in room, staff not knowledgeable about day trip options, comfortable bed, quiet room, poir tasteless breakfast.
The historical look and feel of the old Spanish town
Very nice place to stay. I really like the area and the hotel was very nice! The restaurant in the hotel is good, the prices are to high for the food quality. But overall very stay! I would stay again.
There was always staff available that spoke both English and Spanish. The rooms were clean and the air conditioning worked great. Very nice restaurant adjacent to the hotel.
Great staff. Really enjoyed my stay. Close to downtown and museums.
Very outdated. Whole neighbor hood was dull. Restaurant had decent breakfast.
The staff are really friendly and will do their best to help you. However most of the rooms don’t have an external window; which makes them very dark. My room had a window which overlooked the stairs ( which meant anyone coming up or down the stairs could look right in). The rooms are clean, with comfy beds and it’s an okay place to lay your head for a night. It’s about a 10 minute walk to the main part of the city which is great during the day, but not advisable at night/ after dark.
Dunn Inn
Great location, super friendly staff, lovely ambiance
