Very friendly with big tv clean rooms good heat

It was a trip back to the seventies. Coffee pot had burnt coffee in it and when i left it outit wasn't cleaned, just placed back in the holder. The drawers were not clean. The heater started and stopped every 2 minutes and blow right on the beds. All four pillows were different. People were very noisy fighting until 11:00pm every night.

The room was way nicer than expected for the price. The room was large, clean, and it had a large tv. Many budget options skimp on the tv size. Everything was clean and worked as expected. I have stayed in rooms double the price that were way worse. Would definitely recommend.

The hotel was clean and conveniently located in downtown Gaylord. Many restaurants within walking distance. It's an older motel, but it was adequate for our night's stay. Some of the bathroom fixtures were newer.

Pretty OK for such a small plan

My friend said he heard the people next door yelling all night (I didn't hear anything). All else OK for the price.

This is the second time we stayed here. The hotel is nothing fancy, but it totally fits what we were looking for. Clean room and clean sheets ! It is located in downtown, therefore it is easy to get to all the excitement of downtown and not have to worry about driving if you like to indulge in the various alcoholic offerings that are available. It is an extremely fun area with a ton of places to visit.

The building was aged but it was very clean and comfortable. The front desk gentleman was very friendly and personable.

It's an old motel that shows its age, but for the most part the room was kept fairly clean. The pillows were flat and only 2 per queen bed. Even using both pillows it felt like I was resting my head on a board. The sink and surrounding countertop is about 6 inches higher than standard height, so if you need wheelchair accessibility, then forget it. However, the carpet and bed linens were surprisingly clean and unstained, an increasing rarity in today's lodgings. In the late afternoon on a Saturday it was very noisy outside with loud vehicles, loud music, and dope smoking in the parking lot, but it quieted down considerably as the sun set, making it a peaceful night. The price of a room was very high for what you get, but what was available in the surrounding area was twice the price, so it is what it is. There is no breakfast served, but you are very near to fast or slow food dining.

This motel is in downtown Gaylord, in walking distance to pubs and restaurants. It is affordable and clean. I prefer to stay here whenever I am in Gaylord.

Unbeknownst to us this motel is a long-term rental motel. Expedia should emphasize that fact. A strong marijuana odor drifted across the parking lot. We were told no smoking in the room, but the room reeked of stale and new cigarette smoke. The microwave was absolutely filthy and the coffee pot was on when we arrived. If we had not checked in when we did it very likely would have caused a fire. The motel itself is dirty and grungy. We will not stay there again.

Older hotel with large, clean, and quiet rooms near snowmobile trail. No breakfast, but walking distance to several bars and places to eat.

No breakfast as advertised

First there was no breakfast in the morning, which was advertised. I was told they just dropped it. This unit was in a remodel stage. Rust spots in the bathroom tub. Smell, two times we had to take out the trash and ask to clean towels. The personal who was responsible for cleaning the room, just didn't show up sometimes. I was told she was very unreliable. No telephone. The manager wasn't their majority the time. Mold mildew. Worst place we ever stayed. We wish, we could have got our money back and went someplace else. The last day we were there, we left sick, from the smell and odors. Sad and unpleasant place. Loud noisy throughout the night. Drunks and maybe drug dealers.

Room was dated and very clean beds comfortable great value

Very retro, but very clean. It is a vintage 1970s building that need a paint job outside. The rooms a small but very well maintained and very clean. We would stay again.

A disappointing stay.

We had stayed at this motel several times before in the past year and had a nice rooms. This stay was not !! The entrance door was filthy, the room had an Odor musty, old filthy filthy carpet. Odor from the a/c unit . The Mattress was old uncomfortable , sloped down on one side. The pillows were stained, flat and just old. Screws on the wall but, no pictures. The bathroom, has rust around the door frame and caulk in the tub. The vent is filthy. The microwave was dirty with food on the inside of the door. We felt like we were in a storage room thorn together for costumer at the last minute.

Okay 2 star location

The best feature of the motel is the low cost. The mattress was passable, but bring your own pillow if possible. Have low expectations and you will be satisfied. I saw no evidence of the claimed continental breakfast.

The price was the only thing we liked. I didn't know it is a 2 story bldg. it does not look that way in the picture cause i would have asked for a bottom floor room as my wife and sister are disabled, the breakfast they say they have ended up being cereal and milk no bagels or fruit as they told me, only gave us 4 pillows for 3 people and argued when i asked for 2 more ended up giving us 1 more pillow. We survived it though, would not use them again.

Location and budget friendly. Outside is deplorable. Room is clean but EXTREMELY outdated. Management is less than cordial. Office is very uninviting. Price was great but, condition was sorely lacking in amenities and upgrades. If budget is your goal, you'll probably be pleased.

Motel was fine for an inexpensive 1 night stay. Not fancy by any means, but seemed clean, and location very convenient to downtown Gaylord. The mattress and pillows were not great quality. I did like that rooms have a mini-fridge (used it) and microwave (did not use this trip).

Quiet and clean

At the turn-in from the street to the parking area, the sign says "squeaky clean" -- and it was. Water pressure in the shower was also good. From check-in Saturday to check-out Monday morning, the room was quiet.

Stayed 2 nights at this property. This is an older motel located within 2 blocks of downtown Gaylord. Dining and shopping are easily accessible. My room appeared to be recently renovated and very clean. Breakfast is nothing more than coffee, cereal and bagels. Only one step above nothing at all. For the price, a decent place to stay for 1 or 2 nights.

I have a difficult time understanding an Indian accent. Even worse when person is behind glass and difficult to even hear. No breakfast until 7am is unacceptable. Many people staying here are working. Not really a vacation type hotel. Many will leave before 7am. Maybe that is done intentionally to save a little food. Doesn’t seem like it would take much effort to put out a continental breakfast at 6am. Thin walls. Easy to hear neighbors.

Front staff on check in was kind and even made a joke when i said it was just me. Her reply was "so three then, me,myself and i?" I thought that was super cute. Walking sistamce to downtown where there was music, food and stores. I asked for a 2nd story room furthest from the busy road and thats exactlt what i got, so that was perfect! Its a dated building, but the room was pleasant and clean and the price was perfect.

Staff was not friendly. We asked for an extra coffee packet and after the staff rummaged through several drawers said the housecleaning personnel handled the coffee packets. Very lame. As it turned out it didn't matter too much....the coffee pot was discusting. The unit was marginally clean with towell and closet fixtures falling out of the wall. That explains the absence of clothes hangers. We wanted the downtown location and price was desirable. We would stay again but our expectations are quite low.

Downtown Motel Gaylord

This is a bare bones motel which is expected given the price. It was very clean and the bed was comfortable but the pillows not so much.

The sign out front says “squeaky clean”. Not even close. Nails in the wall where art used to be. The shower curtain was stained with red splatters, the fan had hair and mold coming out, the sink had Soap and toothpaste from previous guests, the microwave sounded like a cat stuck in a blender…a LOUD cat. The freezer was so frosted, couldn’t even put a water bottle in. The listing said breakfast, no breakfast. The listing said wifi. There was a wifi, but not one of our phones (android and iPhone) could connect. No chairs in the room, no table either no chain or latch lock. Drywall patches unpainted. Chunks of paint missing where tv used to be. The parking lot and sidewalks were solid ice. No telephone in room. Carpet and walls were filthy. Literally, sticky drips on the walls in several places. The heater was very loud. The windows looked new and were really nice.

Needs a touch more cleaning attention

Everything was clean and comfy with two exceptions. The sink needs to have a brush taken to the drain cover. It was quite dirty. I took a tissue and rubbed the area to see if it was stained or build up dirt, it did rub off. The coffee maker needs to be cleaned, there was buildup layer on the coffee.

Staff could have been a little more friendly.

One of the pillow cases had orange on it. Almost like someone was eating Cheetos. The coffee pot had an old used filter left in it. You could see daylight through the door frame. This place needs some TLC.

Cheap & well worth it.

For “that” price, I expected little & got it. Hair clog on the top of the shower drain, sticky spills still on the bed-side table. Yellow stains on the “sheet” & holes. Parking lot being replaced, so trekked through dirt to get from parking to room. Nice location. Lots of food nearby…. Like I said, OK for the price……..

The room was fine. Quiet and comfortable. Location was great. We were able to walk everywhere we wanted to go. The woman working the counter when we checked in was very rude. Could not understand what she was saying and literally threw the room key and credit card at us. The continental breakfast must have been the dry cereal and coffee in the office when I dropped the key off. Only 1 coffee in the room, there were two of us so we skipped the coffee.

Staying in Gaylord

Very friendly check in. The room was very pleasant.

Should have strongly considered previous reviews about this place. It is not clean. The shower had hair on the drain from a previous guest. The shower had discoloration from who knows what and places where mold was growing. The bathroom exhaust fan was clogged with dust. The beds were horribly uncomfortable. The place is located right next to the Alpine restaurant, which may or may not be a bonus for someone. The place is supposed to have a continental breakfast but when and what was never mentioned at check-in. The sign for the place says "squeaky clean." It is not that.

The staff had a heavy accent and was not understandable nor pleasant. The marquee advertised a breakfast but after I paid I was told "Sorry. No breakfast." And I got the impression there hadn't been for sometime. I paid way too much. I saw the price for the next day was half what I paid. The hallway floor was very slanted. The room was very clean but with dark dreary colours . Overgrown outside. Don't stay here. Maybe for $60 if you're on a budget......definitely not for double the price.

Convenient location, easy check in process

Excellent, convenient location. Friendly staff. Comfy bed. Good price. Had a good night's rest. However, the advertised free breakfast did not exist, wi-fi also seemed missing, and there was soap scum in the bottom of the tub.

Our stay was good. The room looked like it was freshly painted. Very clean and friendly check in.

furnishing are somewhat old and beat up, found only 1 package for coffee and when we asked for more denied but reluctantly given 1 more. Had it not been nonrefundable we would have gone elsewhere.

The previous reviews are pretty accurate. The room is clean, spacious and good enough for a 1 or 2 star motel. But as others have said, the staff is extremely rude. It’s like they purposely go out of their way to be rude. It seems like they strongly dislike their business. You have to see it to believe it. In 2022 when it is all about customer service, I don’t know how they get away with it. And as others have said, there is no continental breakfast though their sign indicates so.

Got scalped with extra fees at check in without any notice. Front desk attendant was rude. Rooms was fine.

I booked a four person room, but when I arrived the attendant insisted that I had to pay an additional $20 for the "2 extra people." The building looks terrible, and makes you feel unsafe the moment you arrive. The attendant was brisk and unwelcoming. The room key is a flimsy punch card that barely works, and "checking out" incisors simply dropping it in a slot in the desk, because apparently they are loathe to actually interact with their customers more than once. The plug on alarm clock had exposed wires that we felt could short out and/or spark and start a fire, so we unplugged it for safety. There were several large stains in the carpet by the door. One of the tables was falling apart. The complimentary shampoo/conditioner combo was just in two little pouches that you had to rip open to use; clearly they're deathly afraid of people taking home shampoo rather that just using one showers worth, but how could 4 people use only 2 pouches anyway? Thankfully my "extra" people were a 2 year old and a 7 year old who didn't bathe during our stay anyway. What exactly did my $20 payment for "extra" people get me? Nothing as far as I can tell. As my wife said the moment we arrived, "I've paid less far much better." Don't give this establishment your money. It's terrible, unwelcoming, stingy, and clearly the only thing that matters to them is taking you for every penny they can get without doing any work to earn that money. This was the absolute worst motel I've stayed in. Just don't.

No wifi & no 'continental breakfast' Was'nt any coffee on in the morning.

I really liked how I could park my car right outside my door, because I broke my ankle in April and I still need to be very careful when walking.

It was very clean. The man in the Office was very friendly and effecient. The sink would hatdly drain. It pooled up and took a long time to drain out.

The attendant at the desk was very unfriendly and rude and the beds were horrible. Continental breakfast was almost non existent. Would not recommend. The only good thing was the price.

Hotel exterior is very run down but thankfully the room was clean and decent. Way overpriced for what it is, definitely not a $135 per night stay???

Its a decent hotel to stay

Shady location, toxic juice on breakfast gave me the runs, only breakfast was cheerios cereal, orange laxative as juice, and milk. Dirty hotel. Atrocious service and horrible experience.. felt like staying in a 3rd world country

The bed was comfortable, the bathroom was clean and check-in was simple. Some of the decor is outdated and the breakfast was the bare minimum from what I saw but hotel breakfasts are never all that great and my bar for these things is set very low. That is hardly cause for a bad review. Overall this hotel is great and covers all the basics very nicely.

Dead bugs

There were dead bigs in the shower, so i definitely did not shower there. Reveiws said clean amd they definitely were not.

We stay a couple of times yearly at the Downtown Motel. Our room is always clean, the beds are comfortable (which is important to us) and the owners are friendly and welcoming

I did not even stay at this property. I got to the hotel and they ran my card, I walked into the room it smelled terrible. Pillows were old and yellow from age. Each bed sheets and blankets had stains on them. The shower curtain was moldy. I walked right back to the front desk and requested a refund which i was denied. They finally settled on giving me back everything except the booking fee which she said was $20. They ended up only refunding half of my money it was ridiculous. I booked for the location but it was filthy, They did have fresh paint on the walls but that is it. I am not satisfied with my partial refund but there is no way i would be able to sleep in those conditions.

You get what you pay for, when I made the reservation it was for 3 people 2 adults and 1 child. When I got there I was asked for an extra $10 for a third person in the room. Was also annoyed by the argument in the covered hallway about someone smoking in there.

Basic, clean hotel. One night stay.

We are always satisfied when staying at the Downtown Motel in Gaylord. Rooms are always clean and well maintained. The best thing for us is the beds, always firm and comfortable for our backs. Some of the best beds in northern Michigan. Owners are friendly and never had any serious problems there. We stay at the Downtown motel 2-3 times every year

Great place to stay

room was clean no coffee rolls nothing

When I checked in I was charged 50 extra dollars because of “company policy” having more than two people in the room even though when I made the reservation I put there would be 4 adults. Was threatened to be kicked out if we were loud at all because she seen it was birthday. I explained we were here for thanksgiving to see family. The woman who checked me in was very rude and judgemental. We received no service for the whole 4 nights we stayed.

Great service!

The desk clerk bent over backwards to ensure I could get my room at 1am…. Long after the front desk closes. Big thank you! After a 14 hour drive the room was warm and a light was left on for me.

This was a great experience!! the downtown was awesome and right next door to a great dining place and a wonderful night time bar. Room was very clean and the proprietor was very nice!

There isn't anything nice about the property at all. The outside is poorly lit. The downtown is very nice and not at all scary, but this place would make your grandmother clutch her pearls and put her purse under her coat. The condition of the building is poor, it looks like a horror movie was filmed there.

Manager was extremely unprofessional and unhelpful. The room was extremely dirty and she actually told us that we needed to clean it. The sheets were dirty and she refused several times to remake them and only did so if i agreed to help. She refused a refund until we threated ti call the health department. She ran my card again to give me a "refund" but ive yet to seen the money. Its been 2 days
