Too expensive ,not worth
Nice big property by the river very quiet but attention needed on the pool cleanliness( full of leaves and dead/dry plants hanging in the pool, unvarnished lounge chairs, not working lamps around pool , very tired umbrellas etc. Diner was good but breakfast options very limited and not of 5 star standard … Thanks for good stay but you can be much better !!;)
Lovely gardens and breakfast
Classic style hotel but clean. Breakfast seems doesn’t deserve an applaud because limited choices.
Nice Stay
Beautiful hotel. Large pool but the room is a little outdate with wood furniture. Great breakfast option. my daughter was very surprise with the rescued rabbits. She has 2 rabbits and it made her stay very special to be able to feed the bunnies.
Enormous and beautiful resort
A very large and beautiful resort . You will need a taxi app on your phone to get anywhere unless you just want to stay at the hotel. Too far to walk anywhere. Booking a taxi thru the hotel will be 4x higher. No day tour information available, so you will need to find on your own. A very friendly staff. Food at the resort is not so great but the staff is.
AK
Excellent facility, good ambiance. Very good service.
Cockroach in the bath. Room delivery would take more than an hour. Poor upkeep. Sad breakfast.
High quality at a reasonable cost. Will be back.
Lovely
Gteat hotel ,like a palace ,lovely and clean super restaurant on the river ,adternoon tea on the terrace was lovely ,great pool ,will definitely visit again ,
Very large traditional victorian hotel - takes you back in time. The pool was nice, and rabbit feeding was a good touch. Would be great to have some water activities by the river.
Very nice peaceful place and lovely grounds
The hotel buildings and grounds beside the river are lovely, the huge downside for any prolonged stay, is only one restaurant, serving only Thai food. Strangely the same restaurant provides the room service menu with international cuisine. But this is not served in the restaurant. Also no evening lounge or hotel bar available. So at night you would just be sitting in the room with one English TV channel. The town centre is about 10min drive away.
Lovely room = junior suite overlooking the river kwai big size, only negatives I would raise are the fact it’s a resort in a tourist hotspot yet not 1 English speaking tv channel and what’s with the DVD players if you don’t have a stock of DVDS people don’t randomly travel with DVDS and when I asked reception they just did not understand me at all, and locks on the balcony doors of which I had 2 provide no security whatsoever as i locked my partner on both balconies and she pushed both doors open with ease so that needs to be addressed.
2 night stay for family retreat.
One of the finer resorts I have stayed in Thailand. Love the architecture and gardens surrounding the resort. The pool and bicycles were a big hit with the family. I will be back for sure.....
The property condition of 12 years and going through Covid I’ve gotta say that is well maintained. I like the bathroom products which smell very good. Our room is on separated building which gave us privacy and nice river view. The pool is gigantic with beautiful sight. Hotel location is better with motorbike or car to travel around with. PS. It’s not hotel fault but we heard loud EDM music from room balcony from a club or a night market near River Khwae Bridge, but luckily the room has nice sound proof.
Staff was excellent, went over and above.. super cool colonial hotel reminds u of 1950s asia. Front desk people on it. Was busy weekend for holiday and they found time...i will be back!!!
Cleanliness and good environment. Beautiful place. Fitness is a bit small. Overall is great.
So so
Lovely hotel. Always welcoming and beautiful location.
dont charge premium if t place does not warranted
this was a terrible experience from the start: i got into this resort around 7pm and no one was present by the door so i have to carry my bags to the front desk, looks like they are very short handed and i certainly understand. i reserved and paid for a upgraded room with a king bed and i received 2 twin bed pushed together and 2 comforter and only 1 night stand. first night i slept in the room the ceiling fan was making this thumping noise that kept me up all night. i got up and turned it off and use the ac instead, needless to say the ac also hums probably because it hadnt been used for quite some time. complaint to the front desk next morning and ask to changed room, was told that would send a maintenance guy to look at the issues. waited 2 hours and went back to the front desk and asked to see a manager and was told the manager would not be in till 1pm, the clerk called the maintenance staff again and did fix the noise. she told me that they dont have any room to move me since they are fully booked. problem is i dont see any customers around at all. air conditioner is hums, gym equipment are not operating. the place is pretty run down, see photos. this review is really for the property and not for the staff, i think the staff is doing the best they can with what they got. this is an old property and no money is given to upgrade any of their equipment, quite sad, it is a nice property and i was charged premium fee to stay there during a holiday.
Recommend in Kanchanaburi
The hotel was lovely and in a tranquil location on the river. The food in the restaurant was excellent
I liked the older style and quiet civility
Skeleton crew in a deserted resort
I was willing to be understanding as times are hard for all resorts, but this place really was just too bad. Arrival there was no one to greet us and no signs. Had to wander around to find the concierge. No staff at night, which makes me wonder what they’d do in case of emergencies. Anything other than the room is left unswept. We were one of 4 visitors in the WHOLE resort, and they still stuck us room to room so we could hear everything through the adjoining door and smell the guy smoking. Breakfast was basic and served in the room, otherwise there was no room service. In good times, I doubt things would have been so bad, but there was really nothing for the guests at this time
Serene property with everything you need
The service was great but due to covid only the thai restaurant is open for dinner with a limited menu. Food was great though, and service was good. Rooms are amazing and the we loved the pool especially our little one.
Very nice hotel, good location and nice room, good restaurant floating in the river!!!
Neautof
Nice hotel, they provided me a birthday cake for birthday trip 🎂👍
no elevator, the upper rail to hang on to climb the stairs is clean but the lower part is dusty. The shower is dripping and regular hot shower is the same some moment is hot some moment is cold.We stayed 2 nights, first morning we have breakfast by the river 2nd morning they change the place for breakfast without telling us.Over all is beautiful place friendly service. Not much of commmunication.
will definitely come back
Breakfast not variety and fresh coffee is nestle it very simple
Literally one of the best resorts I’ve ever stayed at. From the cool towel at check in, to the obsequious service and beautiful grounds. Do yourself a favor and stay here.
Nice estate and comfy stay by the river
If we had known, we would have planned to stay a little longer here. The hotel is beautiful and we love the garden and the swimming pool area too. The room is big and beautiful (classic Thai style). Only one NEED TO KNOW before you book is that the building has no lifts. Despite only 3 storeys, the place may not be suitable or friendly to older people. We hope the hotel will install lifts in the future as other hotels have done that.
should provide more hand shower in the shower room
Cleanliness and all facilities are very good.
Lovely
Loved this place. Beautiful setting, a little bit out of town but hotel arranged driver into town (additional cost). Wish we could have stayed longer and tried the Spa.
Away Devah Mantra Resort- a place worth staying in
Trip was good, could have been amazing, but the house keeping staff was not so good. Room was dirty, the bathroom also not cleaned properly, the upper areas were dusty. Room did not have an ironing board which is mandatory now in all three star and above properties, the same soap was kept for all the five days, the housekeeping maid ate the chocolates kept for us in the room. These small things tell you that the staff was not well groomed. The food was very delicious whenever we ate at the hotel including the breakfast. The property is very beautiful and has been maintained well. We had taken a family room, the room was very nice, but the cupboard was insufficient for a family of three. We could not unpack, we had to live out of suitcases for five days that we spent there. Other than that, we had a very amazing time in Kanchanaburi, loved the place, and fell in love with River Kwai. The hotel too is an amazing place to stay apart from the little hiccups like they ask you to buy water if you consume your daily quota, but then the housekeeping staff cheated us out of that too, as they never kept all the three bottles, that was our quota, in the room. It can be an amazing place to stay if these small things are taken care of.
I have asked late checkout and it was ok on the 1 st day when checked in. But actually reception staff has called me twice on the 2nd day to go out early. “What time you will go out? We want to clean your room. “ I cannot think of this hotel as 5 star and want to share this info with you all. Generally staff’s service was not good and not trained.
beautiful hotel, great pool, beautiful gardens, on the river. good breakfast. the bed's mattress was a bit hard but other than that all was great. stuff were very nice.
Wow!!!!
My family and I thoroughly enjoyed staying at this beautiful hotel. It was huge and the grounds were gorgeous with a view of the river. The staff were very kind and helpful. My 2 children loved swimming in the beautiful pool that was almost always deserted, except for 1-2 families. The hotel reminded us of a gigantic plantation style home. The breakfast was delicious, had excellent variety, and filled us up at the start of each day. The property is older, but absolutely gorgeous. The front desk provided us with a universal plug and free dvds for the kids. This property is a short drive to town, and therefore a bit isolated. The airport transfer back to Bangkok was pricey, but we didn’t really have any other options. The Bridge over River Kwai was nearby. We were sad to leave this place and highly recommend it!!!!
Nice stay, beautiful scenery
Nice stay here. We had a room that 'almost' had a view of the river. I say almost because it's still a good 20 meters from the river. We got twin beds instead of a king of double, even though I requested for 1 king/double. So wasn't too happy about that, but they pushed them together in advance. So there was that big crack in the middle. Very nice breakfast. Beautiful surrounding scenery as well. Also competitive price.
Lovely setting, grwat spa and pool
We loved the resort the first time we stayed in 2015 and we still love it. However, we did notice some signs of deterioration as the floor of our room had small, but visible “dirt and debris,” the swimming pool was less than clean, and the buildings were visibly worn. The service was still great!
We wanted to stay longer!!!!
Beautiful Hotel, wonderful facilities, great food, amazing room, and all great value
A nice hotel with good swimming pool. Friendly staff , good service, good wifi and easy transport (chargeable) facility provided by the hotel. But very less option for vegetarian food and the hotel is little away from the main area, you find nothing outside the hotel.
Stay Away Hotel
Where to start well on the plus side the chefs and kitchen staff were exceptional and I cannot praise them enough. The hotel is some 5 kl from the town and the hotel supplies there own taxi their price 250 bat one way find your own way home. The drinks are of a 5* hotel price but the hotel is not.The swimming pool has no deep end and is dirty with leaves and bugs floating about it only gets cleaned if you ask and that seems too much trouble the jaccuzi does not work and there is no service at the poolside bar a shambles. No wonder there was hardly anyone staying. The Away hotel should be renamed Stay Away.
Not great customer service at front desk. Staff service was less than expected.
Fantastic hotel 🏨 helpful staff great location would certainly Stay there again
Great atmosphere, staff were very helpful. Suitable for families or couples
Very nice stay at this lovely hotel. The hotel, gardens etc very nice. Our room was lovely and I very much enjoyed our stay. My only criticism would be the swim up poolside bar. It’s not very often staffed by bar staff who can serve drinks. There was someone around looking after towels and asking room numbers for those pool towels, but guests struggled to get served a poolside drink. I saw one guest who had been waiting for some considerable time go behind the bar to phone reception to ask for them to send bar staff so she could have a drink. However this was just a minor inconvenience really but I was aware of a few guests who were a little frustrated by this issue.
Worth the trip
Breakfast was excellent
Beautiful hotel in nice surroundings
Peaceful and relaxed hotel after sightseeing.Great place to recharge the batteries.
This property is beautiful; the pool was particularly nice. However, while it has the appearance of a four-star property and is one of the best in town there are serious areas needing improvement. The restaurant staff while very pleasant and hard-working struggle with completing their tasks. We stayed for three nights. The first two nights 4 of 5 got their drink order but we had to reorder the fifth. The third night everyone got their drink order but 1 of the 5 did not get their dinner. Staff were totally unfamiliar with the menu. For example, while trying to order a gin and tonic the wait staff wrote down that we wanted and gin and a bacardi and a tonic with lime. The hotel provides transportation/tour booking service but doesn't always provide what is promised. We booked a van to take 5 adults on two tours of several hours. We were presented with a small SUV that only seated four with the expectation that one adult would sit in the far back with their legs on the seat. Replacing the SUV with the promised van took over an hour. On our first day the toilet in our room was clogged. They sent housekeeping four times with a plunger but this was never successful. I had to speak to a manager to finally get a more experienced plumber to work on the toilet. The hotel sits outside Kanchanaburi proper so if you arrive without a car you are stuck at the property. Guests arriving without a car would be better served if the hotel ran a shuttle into town.
Great staff. Super room overlooking river. Character hotel.
Fabulous!
We stayed two nights at this hotel and wished we could have stayed longer. It is beautifully presented and maintained. Its location by the river is charming and the gardens and pool area are well kept and spotless. The location is a little outside of Kanchanaburi so if you don't have your own transport you would need to use taxis. But that is a small price to pay for staying at such a wonderful hotel. We had a river view room which was very comfortable. Internet was fast and reliable. Breakfast is a substantial buffet catering for all tastes. We dined at the Rice Barge and the food and service was excellent. We shall certainly be returning in the not too distant future for a longer stay.
Nice location with warming welcome from staff from the first step into the lobby. Helpful service and recommendation of attractive point of travel.
Bad experience. Butiful hotel
A very bed room mixup even hotels.com customer service didt help, i had to pay extra 4000 Baht. The bed in my room made a loud noise every time someone moved and my son wake up from it. Disappointed
5 night stay Nov 2018
Just as advertised. Hotel and grounds very well maintained. Great pool, comfortable room and great breakfast. Staff extremely helpful.
beautiful hotel experience. we really enjoyed our stay. the restaurant could use better wine but overall good experience.
Has potential, but need improvement
3 things that i didn’t like 1) breakfast setting was very crowd 2) room smells damp 3) wifi was very slow 3 things that i like 1) the library is classy 2) the deco is grand 3) the location is nice
Nice hotel for family
Quiet place for rest & relax time with good natural environment.
Lets start with the good points. Firstly the hotel was as it looked, big, clean, colonial looking with a great landscape. The room was large and although not modern was a nice space to be in. The balcony overlooked the gardens and pool and was very peaceful and quiet. The pool was perfect, very big and almost no one there. The Rice Barge food we had on our second night was fanatic and the lady serving s did a good job throughout. Lastly the porter was very friendly and smiley. Now to the bad. STAFF!!!!!! The receptionists were less than helpful one in particular who would not smile or act in a friendly manner if the world depended on it. Always sour faced, unwilling to assist and generally not a nice person to have to deal with. As fr the rest of the staff its is clear that this hotel is aimed at local clients, meaning the staff spoke little to no english. Asking for things, getting help etc was a major chore and in the end we gave up. Very frustrating for an apparent 5 star. Next, The location although tranquil means its also out of the way of anything n the area. If you want to get out its a taxi ride every time, and being as there is little to so in the hotel after dark you will indeed want to get out. Restaurants wise there is a choice of 2, and one bar (not including the pool bar) which was closed each time we went. When dining at night one thing is apparent, the lighting is way to bright to be comfortable, indeed this applies throughout the entire hotel...mood killed
Relaxing and Peaceful
Very peaceful, charming and beautiful luxurious hotel. Love the spacious room and Thai style decoration of this hotel. Although the hotel is a little bit old but very well maintained. The room is clean, has no dust or insects but pillows are a bit too thick. Breakfast is nice too. The receptionists gave a lot of useful travel information with smile.
Worth a Stay
Loved this hotel. Room faced the river, so tranquil. Staff extremely helpful and breakfast very good. Recommend a car if planning to stay here. Bridge is a good 10 min drive away and car allows day trip to Erawan National Park. Also suggest a drive to Hellfire Pass. Harrowing & thought provoking.
Enjoyed our stay , however very remiss with cleanliness of pool toilet , restaurant service was only 3 stars . Food very good but some items were not available on wine list. Staff very friendly
The staff is very nice. The bed is comfort. Scenery is beautiful
This was one of the most beautiful places we have stayed. Beautiful bedrooms and bathrooms, gorgeous landscaping, and a luxurious pool. We could have stayed on the property the entire time (but we wanted to see the surrounding areas and could not afford to eat in the restaurants every meal).
Thai vintage hotel that is worth for money
We stayed here for 1 night during Thai New Year Holidays, aiming to visit Mallika 124 City in the evening. The service exceeded our expectation. All staffs were friendly, enthusiastic and helpful. The decoration was really Thai vintage style and had many locations to take pictures with. Beds were slightly uncomfortable but it was not a big deal.
Hotel ground was lovely. Room condition was good. Had a comfortable stay. Breakfast quality could be better, specially the coffee - using instant coffee machine is not acceptable.
Not as expected
What promises to be a gorgeous destination with its imposing entrance & gorgeous grounds & pool is, unfortunately, somewhat disappointing in reality. Staff at check-in were not friendly and in fact, aside from a few friendly faces, most acted as if they didn't want to be there - and that's if you could find anyone. When they made a big mistake with a transport booking, there was no sincere apology & compensation / attempt to rectify. What else? The reception desk was not staffed until 8am (not good when the 7.30am transport you had been told had been booked by them did not turn up); most restaurants were not open or set-up on time (i.e. coffee & egg station not ready at breakfast time; pool bar barely open); food in the Rice Barge restaurant & at breakfast was decidedly average at best; no room service menu in room but someone's old crackers were on the floor by the bed; damp smelling rooms; gym full of what appeared to be locals & equipment broke (!); dark lighting around the grounds at night (especially leading towards the rice barge restaurant); lights not working in the bathroom; issues at check-out & they also forgot to add on costs that I had to remind them about; no mention of the hotel transfer service (or, once it transported you, no mention that it actually doesn't run all night). Stay here if you're used to 2-star places & wanting something better to 'treat' yourself with - but don't stay here if you are used to 4-5 star places and seeking something similar.
Amazing!
So beautiful. Reception and welcome was great. They spoke very good English. This place is beautiful. Breakfast was very good as were both restaurants and swim up bar service. The rooms are very spacious with great patio and fan. I would give this place 5+ stars BUT the bed was Hard! Near by...Erawan Waterfall. Go all 7 levels. Wear a hiking sandle you can wear into water. its definitely hot, But you can do it. You don’t have to be in great shape but you do have to be determined.
River Kwi
Excellent location for rest and peaceful stop over for sight seeing and understanding more about this region in Thailand
I keep going back.
I've been to Dheva Mantra several times. The rooms are big, with balconies overlooking their incredible tropical garden. Love the river view and the floating restaurant.
Food a disappointment
The facilities were great at this place however, definitely overpriced for Thailand. We didn't use the spa based on this. Our main issue was with the food. The Tiara restaurant served reheated food to us and a basic breakfast on the first day followed by a full breakfast spread the next. Our room service took forever to arrive and they got our order wrong (we received a variation of what was on the menu). Great place for a wedding or function but wouldn't recommend it to recreational travelers.
A nice relaxing weekend away!
A lovely place to get away from city life. The resort is set next to the river Kwai and has a gigantic pool. The buildings are colonial style and the surrounding gardens are beautiful. The rooms are very nicely furnished with teak wood throughout and high ceilings. Its about 3km drive to the tourist part of town.
Kanchanaburi
Good Stay
luxureous
wow, beautiful spacy room, nothing wrong here, service was great, beatiful building, swimmingpool and garden!
a friendly resort
A beautifully maintained property right on the banks of riwer kwai. the staff are helpful and very nice... overall very nice experience... i would have given 5 stars to this for service and maintenance however a few minus points the bathrooms though are nice but they need to made more comfortable. the water pressure keep on wavering and in shower u wont know when u r hit by extremely hot water followed by cold shower. its funny in a way but keep u on edge. its a minor issue for which only some maintenance is required. the food though is good but not gourmet food.. i am talking about their restaurant river barge... the food was good but i would have expected better food at an authentic thai restaurant. i must add that there was nothing wrong with the food but it could be better. overall i was quiet happy with their service and even location. however u need to be dependant upon taxis as the resort is a few kms away from the city and other attractions.
The most perfect hotel.
The most idyllic hotel. Just beautiful.
Good hotel near tourist steeet and 1hour away from erawan waterfall.
Enjoyable place to spend for couple days. Relaxing environment and good facilities. Swimming pool water quality need to improve.
Great place but not a great value for the money
This is a place that you would want to stay at if you have a family or you want to stay at the hotel and enjoy the grounds. Both restaurant at the hotel were really good and the staff was pleasant. The spa was outrageously overpriced and the over value for what we payed didn't seem to match other places we stayed at in Thailand. A nearby venue blasted music night and day and the room suffered from lack of maintenance for a 5 star hotel. I would however still recommend this place because of its gorgeous grounds and good food.
Great hotel. Should have better food .
I have been to Kanchanaburi many times. This is the best hotel I have seen. Great hotel . Very beautiful and spacious. Grounds and garden immaculate. The river views were spectacular. Good there was adequate in restaurant, but not great. Breakfast was subpar. But I would stay there again.
Very welcoming and fantastic service and roomm, only negative was the wifi connection was not great
Beautiful and slightly eerie
This beautiful hotel is missing just one thing - people. Stunning grounds. A greenhouse. Rescued rabbits. A pool that goes on for days. Delicious food at the rice barge restaurant. Excellent service. A huge lobby. Spacious, well-appointed rooms. I stayed for three nights, from Saturday through Tuesday. Saturday was the busiest, with perhaps 8 other couples. Sunday night I dined completely alone in the giant dining room. By Monday morning, the buffet was reduced. There's a private wine bar that wasn't open when I was there, and the lobby bar was also never open, though it's gorgeous and situated overlooking the pool, the grounds, and the River Kwai. I don't understand why this hotel doesn't have more people. It's a bit far away from everything, so perhaps that's why, but give that this is the most beautiful hotel in the area, you'd think it would be full. Alas. You're a bit trapped here; there's nothing within walking distance. Tours are a bit expensive. I didn't try the spa. The Rice Barge is really the best option for food (didn't try the room service). This place is gorgeous, and I wouldn't come back here unless it was with a huge group. Because I read "The Shining".
Magnificent!
Best hotel we have visited in the US or Asia. Wonderful service, great meals, and the rooms are elegant and beautifully furnished. You are treated like a king or queen everywhere. We will be back next year!!! Aks for anthing and it is there in a few minutes.
Great hotel
Nice place, big swimming pool. Big room very comfortable.
Room is big and clean. Overall is quite good.
loverly hotel - has a colonial feel to it
We stayed here and it was a great hotel. Maybe a little dated in some of the things but it almost appears timeless as it has big open spaces and very clean.
Excellent resort close to bridge over river Kwai
very good hotel. Very good service. Nice pool. Rooms are huge. All in all, an excellent stay.
One of the best hotels in Kanchanaburi. Period.
I stayed at Dheva Mantra a couple of times already and it's always a pleasure to be back! The hotel offers true five star accommodation, the staff is top-notch and the pool and garden area one of the nicest we have ever been to. For all that, the hotel simply offers great value for money.
fabulous location
Wonderful location, beautiful building and fantastic room with private terrace overlooking river. Feels like an oasis in the desert. Visited Hellfire pass and bridge over the river Kwai. Really worth doing
Great Hotel
The hotel is amazing. A must stay in Kanchanaburi for value, comfort and ambiance. The food needs to be more than an after thought. Would definitely return and recommend to anyone visiting the area.
Great place for both couple and family
The hotel ambience is highly suitable for family with children as well as couple. The resort has a big pool and the overall area is large enough for strolling and quiet sanctuary for those who wants to be alone. Breakfast selection is good. Basically there is nothing that you can complain about.
One of the best
Recommend, will come back
Tropisch paradijs
Geweldig mooi paradijsje
Beautiful place but some downers
Full of loud chinese tourists shouting from 5 am . Pool 40 degrees , public areas of hotel no aircon
This is my second stay with my family. It was better last time we visited (a year ago). Things looking the same and alittle more dated without any improvement on the facilities, for example the pool isn't as clean as it use to be. Breakfast doesn't have a much variety as before. Still the room is very bigs and over all environment is beautiful. Just hoping it would be alittle better
Beautiful resort & location. I recommend getting the river view room and renting a scooter to go everywhere
