The service ,the room ,the food awesome
Wonderful place
Really great property but we had experienced power outages 2 days in a row. That also affected water pressure- no sink no shower. Nice restaurant for dinner - and close to trails and town
This is a nice hotel with a lot of amenities. It’s on the upper end of hotels around El Chalten.
Very pleasant stay!
Pros: nice staff, good breakfast buffet, good location, nice to have a hot tub but half the jets dont work. Cons: The main issue with this place is how loud and creaky it is if you are a light sleeper its not great and expect to get woken up frequently in the am hours from people walking around because it echos a lot. Also the tap in my room and the room next to mine made a horribly loud high pitched squeaking noise if it wasnt on full blast. Also they need to fix the door on their dry sauna to stay closed so it stays hot enough.
We loved this hotel -- it was clean, modern and cozy. It is very close to the main trailheads for Laguna de los Tres and Laguna Capri. We were looking forward to the spa, but found it a bit lacking. The hot tub isn't hot and the steam room was a little moldy.
Everything was great! We arrived in the evening and the room was warm, clean and inviting. The staff were very helpful and let us store our bags there for a couple days while we went into the park to camp and didn’t want to take them with us. Overall really great value for the cost!
Great Place in El Chalten
This hotel was great! From the minute we walked in, our room was ready before normal check-in, and the staff was friendly and courteous.
Really a fantastic staff. Very helpful and friendly!
Overpriced. Housekeeping underdelivers. Bad service at check in. Limited parking
Internet was slow
Large Rooms and Nice Spa
This is probably the best hotel in El Chalten. Our room was large with a big bathroom. Good breakfast. Nice spa area with jacuzzi, steam room, and sauna. The one problem was the slow wi-fi; sometimes we couldn't get a signal at all.
Clean, modern place with a restaurant , sauna, pool and hot tub.
Very good
Excellent hotel. Its only problem is that there is a fault in the execution of the floor in the corridors and when someone walks you hear loud creaks in the rooms. Other than that, it is an excellent hotel.
Excellent overall. Friendly staff, clean rooms, good breakfast.
Very nice property …. Recommended
Breakfast staff discriminates
It was a wonderful stay. The room was great and the bed was super comfortable. The walls are thin so you can hear others walking around. The front desk staff was very friendly. The breakfast staff was NOT. I watched them great multiple guest but ignored me ( I’m black) the only time the acknowledged me was when they asked my room number. Tell your breakfast staff to stop discriminating I have just as much money and I’m just as important as your white and Asian guests.
Highly recommend!
Very Charming Hotel
Overall, the hotel was absolutely lovely. While on vacation, work came up, and I was able to work in the bar area. WiFi in the room was not great, but in the bar it was acceptable. The only complaint was that it was definitely easy to hear people in the hallways talking and walking. While the wood flooring in the hallways is charming, it was quite noisy. Regardless, I would recommend this hotel.
Excellent, warm staff, however I booked this at last minute with no other properties available in town. $340 a night. Only a small trap door window (16” x 16”) in the room made the room almost uninhabitable at 87° in the afternoons and evenings for two of the days. (I had a thermometer.) I know that price goes up with demand, but this seemed unfair and unjust as I couldn’t even use the room when getting back from hiking.
It was a beautiful hotel. The hot tub saved our legs. Thank you for a wonderful experience.
We had a good stay at Destiny Sur. The room was spacious for a family of 4. Breakfast had good options and staff were friendly. Location wise, it’s close to the trailhead for Laguna de los Tres and multiple restaurants. The issue we had was the property lost power couple of times - once when we were having dinner at the hotel restaurant and the morning of our checkout - during the stay and the property didn’t have a generator. The elevator didn’t work and we had to bring the luggage 2 floors down by ourselves which was very painful.
Beautiful property within easy access of town and the main walking trails. Great place to relax after a hard day’s walking. Staff make an excellent Pismo Sour
Great stay - hotel and room were clean, warm, nice facilities, food was good. Recommend to fellow travelers 👍
Very clean rooms, nice breakfast and restaurant! Service oriented staff. All the trails are close to hotel. WiFi is spotty in the room but works great downstairs. If you can afford it and get it for the dates you want don’t hesitate to book.
Great place!
Excellent hotel with amazing staff! Great rooms!
The staff was amazing. Very accommodating. The rooms are warm but comfortable. Perfect location to bars and restaurants. One of the nicest hotels in town. I'd stay here again!
Location was perfect, food excellent, staff friendly and helpful! The room was larger than other hotels, very clean and simply decorated. The breakfast was awesome, healthy, fresh and abundant choices.
Friendly staff, nice restaurant, room clean- small but comfortable
Great location
Location in El Chalten is perfect as you are very close to all the trail starts (very welcome at the end of a long hike!). The Rooms were all big so it was nice to have a lot of space to relax and unpack. Customer service in the hotel was amazing from start to finish. They provided all the information needed for rookie hikers and made us feel very welcome. The spa was great, wished we had used it more! Only negative was that our room was above the restaurant and and we could hear the music from the restaurant very early in the morning when breakfast was first being served. As soon as we mentioned it though, they were more than happy to relocate us.
Excellent, for El Chalten. Some minor room for improvement, but overall an excellent experience. After seeing other options available in town, this may be one of the top two places to stay there. Plus: room size, cleanliness, friendly staff, quality of bed, restaurant (we had both feee breakfast and pay-for dinner) Maybe slight room for improvement: Mixing of Hot/Cold temperature in shower head mix (not a big deal, but could improve) Needs improvement: wifi signal in bedroom (although it was fine downstairs in bar/restaurant) We didn’t try the spa
Wonderful stay, would totally recommend!
Great stay at this hotel, I particularly enjoyed the service given by the staff at Destino Sur. Lovely people who gave us lots of pieces of advice on how to visit the town of El Chaltén and other suggestions regarding the hikes. The receptionists were very helpful and polite, thank you!
Great hotel in great town
Great hotel in the tiny little mountain town of El Chalten. So convenient to restaurants and the trails!
Great stay in El Chalten
The staff goes above and beyond, so sweet! Helped us with any request and knowledgable. Their day trip meals are surprisingly good with good value for money. Spa is great after a long day out. It’s probably the best, or at least one of the best places in the area
Great rail location
Great location for trails
Great place to relax after arduous but scenic trek
Great place to stay with helpul staff. Only down side was that they do not have bath robes in the bedrooms, which is inconvenient going to and frm the swimming pool. Paying over $300 aud a night you would expect them!
husbands 50 birthday
Nice hotel but view was over car park not what I was expecting Breakfast staff very helpful reception natural
Delightful stay in a charming town
We had a great stay at Destino Sur. The room and bathroom was spacious enough, we especially liked the hot shower which had good water pressure. Only thing is the rooms are too warm for our liking... we had to keep the window open the whole time but overall great rooms. The spa was also nice to have after a day of hiking. The breakfast was ok, however we very much enjoyed the restaurant for dinner. All of the staff was so friendly, kind, and helpful. The hotel is also a great location to trailheads and still close to all restaurants and other places. We enjoyed our stay and would come back.
Great staff - very helpful, especially Giuliana! More variety i food service including breakfast and dinner would make this place superb!
very nice location, nice hotel, very attentif staff, excelent food
The staff was wonderful. Very helpful with information on the town, helping with transfers and excursions and restaurants. Great location for the treks and they have mountain bikes for use to get around town and explore.
Excellent hotel with very clean and cosy rooms, everything was perfect.
We chose Destino Sur for some relaxation and pampering after a lot of physical exercise, and were so looking forward to the on-site massages and spa, mountain views, and king sized bed. Unfortunately, this place disappointed on all counts!! In spite of emailing with the front desk the day before arriving to ask about booking massages (they said we could book massages and spa time at check in), we were told at the desk that they were no longer providing massages for the season. No apology or explanation. Nothing on the website or promotional materials (even the booklet we found in the room!!) said anything about massages being seasonal. I had upgraded to their superior/premium room because they guaranteed a mountain view and had king sized beds. In spite of being mostly empty (end of the high season), they put us in a room overlooking the parking lot with flood lights shining in the windows all night. When I worked up the courage to ask about switching rooms, they said they’d check and get back to me and then never did. And the “king size” bed was actually just two twin beds pushed together, the frames and mattress edges making a hard bump in the middle. The service and communication was surreally bad. We did use the spa, which we had the impression was booked in private, hour-long sessions. After the first session, about 45 minutes in two people just burst in without knocking or even saying hello and turned off the jacuzzi and started cleaning up around us.
Location was excellent for hikes and their bikes were great to use in town. No A/C, so rooms got very warm, especially the bathroom, but great place to stay. Premium Room category.
Luxury Hiking
Wonderful place, great service, and great breakfast. Easy to walk into town and trail heads.
Great hotel. Close to tracking enjoyed the spa at end of day. Beds comfortable and good breakfast
One of the nicest options we noted in El Chalten. Good location and nice rooms with great views.
Excellent location for treks Good size rooms. Spa average. Food very good.
Great location Staff were v helpful. Book dinner in advance.
Lovely hotel
Really clean rooms with air conditioning in a nice location out of town and some decent restaurants nearby. Quick check in and an AMAZING breakfast (the best in 2.5 months in South America). Clean pool and hot jacuzzi with a great view of the volcano. Only complaint was the bed was quite creaky and the cocktails werent great.
A really nice place, with a modern but simple aesthetic. Very clean and spacious rooms, and a new spa with sauna and jacuzzi. Excellent staff- very helpful and attentive. Our room was a bit too cold due to the very windy weather, but they were extremely accommodating, and moved us to another room on the other side of the hotel, which was perfect.
Spectacular view from room, nice bar area, breakfast was excellent, closer to trailhead for Fitz Roy
Amazing breakfasts, very helpful staff
Amazing! Wonderful hotel in a fabulous little town. The rooms were spacious and clean, and that bed was super comfortable - bliss after a long day of hiking. The bikes were great to get around town (especially when your feet aren’t up to walking anymore) and there is a relaxing spa you can book to soak your tired muscles. Breakfast was plentiful and possibly the best spread we had over our whole holiday. The hotel is in a great location, in close walking distance to trail heads, great restaurants and a supermarket. There’s really no need to have a car in this small town, we just booked the Las Lengas transfer straight from El Calafate airport and that dropped us off at Destino Sur. El Chalten was the highlight of my trip in Argentina and Destino Sur had me feeling right at home. I just hope I can return one day.
Overall, this was a nice property near the hiking trails and walkable to everything in El Chalten. Staff was friendly and continental breakfast was good. We had a few problems with our room that they could not fix, however. The heater was so hot every night that it was almost unbearable to sleep and the shower flooded the bathroom each time we took a shower. I would still recommend this propert, they just need to work out some of the kinks.
Highly recommend booking the spa after a hike- you can have a jacuzzi for two, and use the sauna etc.
We really enjoyed our 2 night stay here. The reception staff were really friendly, and very happy to store luggage if needed. Breakfast was varied and provided a great start to the day before hiking, and our room was super comfortable with a great shower. The third floor room was our favourite, as it was quieter, bigger, and super warm! Plus the staff gave us a bottle of wine to celebrate our honeymoon, which was a lovely touch.
Destino Sur's location in El Chalten is unmatched, as close as you can get to the Fitz Roy trail head and close to restaurants and bars it is a great place to stay. During our stay there the staff was friendly and helpful, on new years eve we came back to the room to a gift they had left for us. If ever return to El Chalten (I would love to) I would definitely stay at Destino Sur.
The staff were exceptionally helpful. The room was very comfortable.
Big beautiful room. Great breakfast. Nice staff. Recommended
Good option in El Chalten
Good location and breakfast, helpful staff.
Wonderful hotel in a beautiful town
Great service, food, and cleanliness. Only criticism is the heating could have been turned down a bit as it was very stuffy. No complaints otherwise and will definitely recommend!
Fantastic! Only issue is the physical structure is loud, but certainly not loud enough to ruin everything.
Chocolate by night
What a great, designed hotel, it really is something from Charlie and the Choco Factory! Room poky and out of date furniture, spa area delightful and underused. Staff very helpful.
Cosy hotel at El Chalten.
This is a great hotel: rooms are spacious and perfectly equipped. The hotel is very charming and the staff friendly. Breakfast is top notch and the spa facilities are very convenient after a long walk. The only inconvenient is that in the morning it can be a bit noisy.
Nice place to relax between hikes
The hotel was lovely and so was the staff. The only exception was the noise from the hallway. The rooms all had old fashioned keys, that people could not figure out and was very noisy in the morning when a big group left and people were trying to lock their doors. The hot tub and sauna were nice after hiking
Clean, modern hotel well-located
My wife and I spent 2 nights. Rooms have lovely views of the lake. Hotel is at the edge of town but you can walk into town easily with a little town. Hotel staff are very helpful (arranged Perito Moreno Glacier tour with Hielo Y Aventura, best tour available because you walk on the glacier only with them). Hotel is clean and modern, rooms are spacious.
Best spot in El Chalten!
Amazing! Miguel, at the front desk, was the best ever! Thank you!
Wonderful hotel in a good location. The rooms were modern and clean. The spa was great after a hard day of hiking. The breakfast was fantastic.
Easy pick for nice hotel in Chalten.
Loved this place...one of maybe 3-5 decent real hotels in Chalten. Great staff, great breakfast, great service. Close to many trails and walking distance to anywhere in town. They treated our small child really well.
Close to trail heads
Nice hotel at the edge of town very close to trail heads. Large comfortable rooms.
The nicest hotel in El Chalten for sure!! Very spacious and really well done. Everything about the hotel was excellent. Stayed two other places and recommend Destino Sur as our top choice.
Nice hotel, great location
Really enjoyed my stay at Destino Sur! The hotel is lovely, the rooms are clean, the staff are friendly and the location is perfect for adventuring off onto the main El Chaltén treks as well as finding a good beer and meal following the hike. Great experience overall, would recommend.
Nice choice in El Chalten
El Destino is one of the best hotels in El Chalten and conveniently located close to some of the most popular hiking trails. The rooms are nicely designed and the beds are quite comfy. Service is friendly and the breakfast is good quality. The Spa is too small and has to be booked in advance. The gym is within the spa and not quite usable. Overall a solid choice for a stay in El Chalten, which would be likely focused on outdoor activities.
Amazing Stay
The hotel is so beautiful. The room was fantastic! The bathroom had a smell, though. Like a minor sewer smell. But it didn't ruin our stay for one night. the room was just too great and the people were the nicest!
Great hotel. Likely the best in El Chalten. Highly recommend.
Nice hotel. Close to de trakking line.
Excelente hotel. Confortable. In the middle of the town. Near to the trakking rote.
Walking distance to center of town
My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon and during our time in el Chalten. We really enjoyed the hotel and site seeing the area. The hotel staff was very helpful and they even gave us a complimentary bottle of wine for our honeymoon. The room was spacious and had a mini bar fridge which we used to store grocery items. Breakfast was very good and very appreciated for the long days of hiking. We also took advantage of the complimentary jacuzzi time and paid for massages. They even exchange money for you and they heated up our leftovers from dinner one night. We spent a lot of nights in lobby bar area drinking our own bottle of wine we purchased at rhe supermarket and playing dominos. They didn't mind. One day during our trip they didn't clean our room despite being out most of the day but we asked them to change the garbage at least. We hope to come back soon. Tip: bring pesos ahead of time. The only ATM in town runs out of cash a lot. Most of the restaurants and stores only take cash.
don't expect too much for the price
people don't typically go to El Chalten to stay at a hotel. People come go there for hiking. That being said, the sound carries from room to room. Also, the included breakfast was not that impressive. Actually, compared to other hotels, the bread was on the weaker side and selection of cheese. The water pressure in the hotel is not constant. It goes from really strong to weak. From hot to warm. The hotel does have a spa room which does help with recuperating from a long hike. Over all, not too impressed for the price, but not much to choose from.
Comfortable and more upscale home base for hikers
We wanted a nicer place to stay in El Chalten (not a backpacker lodge) so we could indulge in some comfort after long days of hiking -- and Destino Sur satisfied that. Good breakfast spread in the mornings to fuel up. Professional front desk staff. Great wifi. Location is not central but not a big problem because the town is small and walkable. Spa (jacuzzi and sauna) is small but private since you reserve 45-min blocks of time to use it. Room was clean and comfortable. Only issue was noise from the hallway waking us up in the mornings -- really squeaky floors and loud footsteps when people walk by, and the old-fashioned keys are a little difficult to use so lots of jangling noise. Fine if you're getting up early to hike, but not great if you want to sleep in.
Nice hotel away in the north end of the town
We had a car so it was easy to drive to trailhead and restaurants. A very tasteful decorated hotel. The room was nice and spacious. Good breakfast choices. It's definitely worth the money.
Clean and a little better than average hotel.
Rooms were always too hot and the walls quite thin for neighborhood noises. Staff very helpful and friendly. Breakfast very basic.
Overall, a pleasant stay.
Great Stay
This is a great hotel. Little costly. Staffs were amazing. Rooms are pretty comfy. The Chalten Travel Bus has a stop right next to the hotel. And this hotel is also close the Hiking trail heads for Fitz Roy. The breakfast is pretty good.
Comfortable cabin retreat with friendly staff
We enjoyed our stay particularly because the staff was so helpful. They made sure we had all of our tours lined up. And we had left a jacket at the airport which they retrieved. Breakfast had a full range of food. Rooms were quiet and spacious. The pillows could be a little softer and the safe didn't work. But the rooms were warm and the bathrooms are large. It's about a 10 minute walk (downhill) to the town but they offer rides back in the evening. Recommended!
Great place to return to after a hike
We loved our stay here. Service was excellent, and the rooms were clean, airy and with excellent selection of channels on cable TV (when you get bored at night as there's not much else to do in town after trekking). Good breakfast as well. Location-wise, the hotel is situated near the end of the town, but it's a small town, and it doesn't take more than 15minutes to walk from end to end of the town.
This place was fantastic!
This hotel and the staff made our trip to El Chaten unforgettable. The rooms are clean and spacious and well laid out. They fully understand and cater to the backpacking and hiking community. The food was very good and plentiful. They also have a jacuzzi and suana which are awesome after a hard day of hiking. They also made us box lunches to take on our all day hikes. Everyone who worked there was friendly, gracious and helpful. I highly recommend this hotel.
Service was impeccable! I am gluten intolerant and they made sure I had gluten free options, without me reminding them each day.
Great hotel in every way
Really lovely hotel with extremely helpful and courteous staff, clean and comfortable rooms, tasteful decor, a warm and welcoming atmosphere, a great little spa, and good breakfast. It's also ideally located in town for some of the better hikes in the area.
Small rooms but excellent front desk employees.
Although we requested 2 rooms with view we got just one with view. The one facing the back was freezing and water was dropping from the ceiling to the bathroom wall. Both rooms were very small but the mattresses were very comfortable. Breakfast was mediocre. The hotel has excellent and helpful front desk employees.
Great Hotel
This was a great hotel in a super location at the end of town where many of the trails begin. The bed was super comfy and the bathroom was a good size. There was a fridge and room safe as well as TV with good choice of English channels. The hotel has wood floors so you can hear people coming and going in the hallways - not a deal breaker for me. I think the hotel could upgrade the door locks on the rooms....I did not like the fact that I had to use a real key to unlock and lock the door once I was inside. To me, this is a safety concern....so keep the key in the lock once you are inside in case you have to unlock the door quickly. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. I would stay here again for sure!
Great stay in El Chalten
This little gem is luxury in a backpacker town. The hotel was really nice and the staff are so helpful. The bonus is the spa you can reserve after a long day of hiking. Breakfast is a nice spread and was included with our reservation.
Great hotel and close to hiking trails
It was fabulous to Day hike all day around Mt Fitz Roy and then come home to our fabulous hotel room. We stayed 4 nights and loved it. Karen
Perfect!
Book time at the spa (it's amazing and free)! Incredibly convenient for accessing the main hiking trails from town (2 block walk). Great property all around.
Edge of town, but close to trails
The reason to go to Chalten is to hike. For this, the hotel is in a great spot. But if you want to walk into the center of town for a bite to eat or something else, it's a bit of a hike in and of itself. The hotel is comfortable, although a bit loud. The doors don't seal out noise, and all the floors are wood adding extra noise. But overall, we were pleased with the stay.
Nice hotel in el chalten
Very nice experience, nice restaurant close by, ideal to start some of the fitz Roy treks Rooms are very comfortable, nice breakfast with good products It is opposite to the bus station (entrance of the city) but we realized on our way back that the el chalten bus stopped just in front
Very comfortable hotel
New hotel, very comfortable spacious rooms. Extensive breakfast Staff very helpful, and knowledgeable about walks in the area Nice lounge to relax in, complementary WiFi and also 2 complementary computers in lounge area. Books available to read about local walks Great spa and sauna, need to reserve a time Chef was absent for part of our stay, as he had to head to visit family for a few days, not a problem as we trying the numerous and very good restaurants in town, but my have been a problem if weather was bad and you didn't want to venture out. Hotel arranged a light 6am breakfast for us due to an early departure, even though breakfast didn't usually start until 7am
Great experience
Great hotel, luxe for El Chalten. Good for those who are past the hostel environment! The spa is wonderful and easy to reserve. Beds comfy. Rooms a tad small. The windows open so you can get the breeze. Internet and cable are spotty as in the whole town. Great breakfast. Would 100% stay there again.
Destino Sur Hotel & Spa de Montaña | Hotel in El Chalten | Travala.com
We loved the hotel’s location, it’s close to some of the more popular trails and a lots of restaurants, also their breakfast is very good!
