Good central hotel
Check in could have been more welcoming particularly since we have stayed at this hotel on several occasions. Very good buffet breakfast. Nice room and comfortable bed. Lovely to have coffee machine and frdge in room.
This probably the nicest 3-star hotel in which I’ve ever stayed. The room was clean, pleasant and spacious. The staff was lovely, and the restaurant has an excellent menu, wine card, food & service. I highly recommend!
Der Teufelhof Basel is an excellent hotel. We would recommend it to anyone.
Very nice clean hotel.
Christmas village tour
Beautiful Hotel in the heart of the city My room in the art house was decorated like an art studio Definitely would stay again
Stunning place and conveniently located.
A room with a view.
Beautiful place to spend the night. The staff were very helpful.
Fab stay
This was a lovely visit and everyone was charming. We arrived late and we were helped with our bags. It was wonderful.
Room was not in the main hotel but across the street in a completely different hotel with very modest conditions for the price paid. The main hotel rooms were very exquisite from the photos shown in the listing. Considering that the reception desk was in the main hotel and there was a foot of snow on the ground, having the room across the street was dangerous and inconvenient. also, one of the two bookins never went through so our traveling companions had to be housed in a different hotel two blocks away!
Very clean and quiet. Convenient location for our walking trips around Basel.
Very good hotel located in the center, nice breakfast and good restaurant for dinner. For people visiting in the summer keep in mind that rooms have no A/C
Easy walk to old town, no air con but they provided a fan on request.
The room was a suite. Nowhere comfortable to sit. It was impossible to use the shower without flooding the bathroom. Poor design. The staff wasn’t helpful in terms of finding restaurants etc. and of course, had to keep windows closed to keep out second hand smoke from the patio below
The staff was wonderful and the restaurant food was truly five star! Perfect location as well!
This is a lovely hotel close to the old town of Basel and right on the tram line. They have a delicious breakfast.
A beautiful hotel in a traditional part of the old city. The room was very clean and well presented. Hotel staff in the Reception and Restaurant were helpful and friendly. I have stayed at this hotel quite a few times and it’s my first choice when in Basel.
Cool museum in basement
Lovely spotlessly clean hotel , in a lovely area and within easy access of the centre
The staff helped us move to a nearby AC friendly property.
Loved this Basel hotel!
My daughter and I stayed in this super nice Basel hotel for three nights. We enjoyed our stay there so much! The location was great and the staff was super friendly. We would definitely stay there again if we ever travel to Basel again.

Old town proximity
Great city!
Great central location although it’s up a big hill. Pretty old but super roomy. Bed was 2 singles pushed together and pretty firm. Loved the coffee maker. Close to many attractions and lots of reasonable dining and public transit - which is free with a card from the front desk! Also took advantage of half price bus and AWESOME ZOO.
Loved this place
Loved this hotel! Very friendly staff, clean and comfortable room with great window views, and a very convenient location. Will stay here again!
Historic and cultural
Charming hotel, great wines by the glass, excellent food.
Clean and many little perks. Friendly and helpful stafd.
The decoration was beautiful
Very good place and service overall
Exceeds expectations in every way
A beautiful old building brought to modern standards. The bedroom was large and the windows open!
Great location, excellent and attentive staff at both hotel and restaurants
The staff the location was perfect. Transportation to the hotel was very easy. The restaurant was amazing. Everyone was top notch
Fabulous Basel Hotel
The hotel was great! It is close to the city center and easy to get around. The staff was exceptional. They were so friendly and eager to answer any questions we had. I would definitely stay here again if I am back in Basel.
Great stay.
Great stay.
Genteel city hotel with character
Excellent location for access to Christmas markets. Steps from #3 tram to barfusserplatz ,then access from there to rest of city - trams run constantly. Our room was in the attic with beautiful huge beams , a largish bathroom and toiletries. Even though we faced the street, it was quiet. Elegant staircase, but no elevator. Not to worry, the extremely helpful front desk will bring them up. There are three restaurants in the hotel but we were unable to get reservations, plan ahead! But within 5-10 minutes there are many more. We recommend Schnabel and Walliser kanne. The desk will make reservations for you but best to do so before you leave home. Loved der Teufelhof - excellent service and relaxing atmosphere.
Excellent hotel, excellent location. There are public teams right outside the hotel. Be aware you may need to climb stairs to get to your room. There are half floors that are reachable only by climbing stairs after getting off the elevator.
Great location. Simple room, very clean.
After traveling and a very long day we checked in. Process was easy, parking was difficult. We took out things to our room. Relaxed for a minute then went downstairs for dinner. The host asked if we had a reservation. We did not. He said we can not seat you for dinner but you can go to the bar for some fare. Eating in the bar after a long travel day was not what I was expecting. Trains run until very late and the restaurant was right under our window so it was very very noisy.
What a great hotel! It is beautiful, quiet, great helpful staff, excellent location. Will definitely visit them again.
very unique old hotel be aware no elevator but staff very willing to help with luggage
Beautiful little hotel. Staff was excellent. Right in historic downtown. Only complaint was there was no air conditioning so the room was quite warm.
Best location and hotel to stay in Basel. Many great restaurants nearby and everything you need is walkable or accessible through nearby trams. Staff is super helpful and friendly. Also very quiet and safe at night. Floors are a little creaky though so that might be the only thing waking you at night.
Excellent location for touring Basel. Staff very helpful and courteous. Breakfast good selection, great coffee.
Beautiful hotel in a great location
Good but not our best stay here
Booked a room in SET Teufelhof by mistake. Although condition of room was excellent it did not have the homely atmosphere of the main hotel. Also there wasn't even a news programme in English, which there is in the main hotel.
Our hotel of choice in Basel
Our preferred hotel always when in Basel. Frequently upgraded and staff, service and facilities all excellent.
Friendly staff, well situated and pleasant room. I would recommend this hotel as an excellent option when visiting Basel.
Nice garden to be in the city center. Price reasonable in Swiss but quite expensive for others.
Awesome experience, we loved it!
What a lovely refurbished character hotel.
Our two families stayed here for three days. It was unusual to have two quite different hotels as one property--one very European, the other quite modern. Both were very nice. Staff were friendly and helpful, and the location was perfect. Restaurants were quite expensive, but maybe not unusual for Switzerland. I'd definitely stay there again.
Unique property in the old city close to everything. Given free transit pass to get around and to airport. No English TV.
Excellent
Excellent, friendly and helpful staff. Good location. Nice breakfast. Comfortable, clean and stylish room.
Set is comfortable and practical
Great hotel
Always our hotel of choice in Basel but unfortunately the changes to covid rules in both UK and CH made for quite a stressful stay, despite the efforts of staff to sort problems
Good location to get around Basel
Clean room that we stayed in. Helpful front desk in identifying places for us to see and things to do. Unfortunately with the new Swiss COVID requirements for a certificate to be able to sit in a restaurant or bar really impacted our Basel experience. Hopefully, the Swiss government will lighten up on their controls.
perfect
The property location is close to a lot of restaurants and shopping, the comfort of the hotel bed was terrible, bed was very hard and woke up sore. There is a elevator but there is No air conditioning and they did provide a fan. Reasonable price for room but hotel restaurant is over priced.
A lovely hotel in the old town of Basel. Friendly and helpful staff . A building with character and modern fittings- a good mix. Hotel Parking was available approximately 5 minutes walk away.
The descriptions of the rooms were oversold compared to what we experienced. The staff was kind and helpful with the little interaction we did have.
Great stay
It was a short urgent overnight given flight delays etc. The staff were helpful and accommodating. Taxi services arranged and everything worked as expected...
Two night stay
We are in Basel regularly and chose on this occasion to stay at Der Teufelhof because the room rate was not much higher than our usual choice. The hotel is in a characterful location in the old part of the city. Other than the rooms which we had booked we did not use any of the hotel facilities - breakfast was very expensive even if booked at check-in. We waited for around 10 minutes at check-in as there was only one member of staff on the front desk. While we were waiting, on two occasions other staff members approached us, asked if we were checking in, and then walked off. The rooms were spacious and clean. However noise insulation is very poor and I was woken at 5am on the first morning by a phone conversation in an adjoining room. In addition, one of a pair of shoes belonging to my daughter was placed, we assume during the cleaning of her room, on a high shelf in the wardrobe, which was not easily visible, leading her to believe for some time that the shoe had been lost. I received email directly from the hotel before and after our stay, on both occasions addressed not to me but to our unmarried daughter (who was not the lead name on the booking) under the title "Mrs".
No need to look further
Fantastic hotel with special atmosphere, beautiful rooms, excellent restaurants, a theatre and very well located.
The Teufelhof is our absolute favorite place to stay in Basel. We are looking forward to our stay there every year. The hotel is in a great location, the rooms are very beautiful, clean, comfortable and fun, the people are very nice and accommodating and the breakfast is delicious. Thank you for another great stay !! We can not wait to be back.
I think this is the best hotel in Basel and we go often because we have family there. They also have the best bar/restaurants in Basel. The rooms are on the small side If you don’t upgrade. The bathrooms are nice but this time they did not provide conditioner for some reason. However, they were super responsive because 2 min after we called, they were knocking at our door conditioner in hand. Breakfast is fantastic. Location is excellent.
Friendly and caring service in a wonderful traditional guesthouse setting
Good location
Nice hotel in good location for walking around the old town. Some staff super friendly, some not !
The location was perfect for our first visit to Basel. Everything was easily accessible from the Rhine, to the Theater to restaurants.
Perfect location for exploring the old city center. We came for the Christmas Markets and stayed two nights. The hotel staff (Bar waiters, breakfast attendant, and desk clerks) were all so kind and accommodating. The hotel art is interesting and the rooms are spacious and comfortable. We enjoyed our stay in Basel and would highly recommend Der Teufelhof Hotel!
Great location for Christmas Markets and old town.
Locations and proximity to the Christmas Market and old town was great. There is a tram stop right outside the hotel. Breakfast was not bad. although not a massive selection, especially on hot food, although they do eggs to order. The bed was very comfortable. The room we had (33) was a bit small, and on a corridor between the lift and main building, and with a creaking floorboard outside we heard when people walked past our room, so I would ask for a different one next time. Also, the light was broken, but they replaced it quite quickly, but the room was still a little dark in areas. That might sound negative, but if we had a different room I would certainly stay here again for the location in particular.
Location is great. Everything was terrific!
We love everything about this property. It is clean and comfortable. The staff are friendly and helpful. The breakfast is GREAT! And it is conveniently located. Get the breakfast package if you stay there.
Excellent facilities and service. Often booked up for a reason!
Happy stay in Basel
A good stay. The only gripe was the price of the breakfast, pricey indeed It was too late when we discovered the bar in the Arts parts of the hotel, served coffee and croissants. Marvellous location
We stayed in the modern half of the hotel and loved it! The decor was perfect, but the staff were even better. Kudos to the hotel bartender - she was so friendly!
Everything about it made for a good stay. They went out of their way to be helpful. Super nice people.
ys in Basel
Charming hotel in with he old part of Basel, close to everything. Friendly, helpful staff
Enjoyable stay
Appealing individual hotel with old world charm but modern facilities. Bedroom windows that open!
Liked archeology history tourxxxxxxxx. Zzz xxxx. Zzzxxxxxxxx
Very well kept hotel with helpful staff. Room was a good size with lots of light overlooking garden.
Lovely hotel in a great location with very friendly and helpful staff. Great location too for an easy walk to the market and the river.
Noise
Our room was above the hotel restaurant outdoor cafe which closed at 1030 but staff was out there until 330 am the saturday and 12 am sundY.
Best hotel i have been in years, and many reasons to come back again.
Lots of interesting things to see here, a great find.
hotels.com scams again!
This review is not about the hotel, but about hotels.com scam tactics. They will not honor your free nights and if you try to resolve they will keep you on chat for over an hour. You can read about this online all over the place. The hotel itself is nice and i will book direct with them next time.
Great time and worth the price
We had a good time. Clean rooms and the duvet could be manipulated to a sheet. They had coffee and water in the room and also provided us with a Basel city card. Good place to stay and worth the price.
Friendly staff, but they do not know where a near Catholic Church was:: but explained me every placed I wanted to go on the map. I was not at the Teufel but in an annex at the named “Set” Hotel by Teufel, which is new and with very modern furniture. Large room, comfy bed, nice views... separate toilet and shower with formidable toiletries At room 403 there was this terrible sound i... they told me it was the air conditioning.... I could hardly sleep!
Comfortable stay
Unique hotel with an interesting history. Very convenient to the old part of the city. Worth a visit !
Basel weekend August 2019
When were we there: August 2019 for the jazz festival Overall: Great venue, with very characteristic accommodation, a great selection of elements in the hotel to experience and explore - two restaurants, bar, theatre, and a cellar with archaeological interest. The hotel even offers an audio guide to explore it. Rooms: Rooms are split across two buildings, depending on whether you go for "style" or "art" rooms - we were swapped to an art room, which was really impressive to experience, although wouldn't be for everyone because there's no lift in that side of the building, and our room had a large batch but no stand-up shower, so it's worth checking. I thought photos on hotels.com are accurate Service: very helpful staff - including carrying heavy luggage up stairs! One down-point was inaccurate directions for a museum, so it's worth double-checking. German, French, English spoken without problem. Food: we didn't try the restaurants, but breakfast was very good. Ample choice, and great eggs from the kitchen! Location & getting there: On the edge of the old town - walk out one of the doors and you're straight in to the old historic town. About 15 min walk from the Swiss railway station, and 5 min from the main tram stops. Value: probably in the normal range for Basel and what you should probably expect from a 4-star hotel with a Michelin restaurant (ie not a budget hotel!). I think we got a great booking via hotels.com
Best and very unique hotel in Basel! Great location, delicious breakfast and friendly associates.
Location was great, room was bright and welcoming and the staff were excellent. I was a little frustrated I couldn't get parked at the hotel as it was raining but I was directed to a nearby parking garage and give an umbrella for the walk back.
This hotel was lovely with a beautifully covered terrasse. The room was a good size and very comfortable with a complete set of amenities. The only drawback was that there was no air condition. The 3 days we spent in Basel were very hot (36 to 38 celsius), so although a ventilator was provided it was very a bit difficult at time. The breakfast buffet was excellent and price wise it was worth it to book it ahead of time. The hotel was well situated close to restaurants and to the old town.
This hotel is a charming, old-world hotel. The service was excellent. Our only complaint was the lack of air conditioning. Probably not necessary most of the time, but the city was experiencing unusual heat while we were there and the lack of climate control made the stay somewhat uncomfortable.
The hotel is so beautiful outside and in and is in the old town of Basel so you can walk around and see all of gorgeous architecture. It was an excellent place to begin our honeymoon adventure!!
Lovely hotel but really needs air conditioning in upstairs rooms as very hot and teams too noisy to leave windows open
Location is great for Old Town Basel but no lift and no air combined with record heat wave made it tough to enjoy. Food is very good.
Elegant charming dress excellent food great service kind and elegant
Perfectly situated
Very well located and a terrific value. Go out the back door and you are directly in the old city. Wonderful breakfast with made-to-order eggs. Highly recommend.

Beautiful historic building. Simple, clean hotel without frills.
