The staff are all very nice and helpful. They were in the process of remodeling a wing so clean was a challenge. Then their hoover was broken so the poor staff were sweeping rugs using s dust broom. I really look forward to the new mattresses they promise in the superior rooms as they just installed in the standard rooms. Breakfast is eggs your way then dinner type savories. Pretty much same every day. The breads are very dry so dont get eaten. No pork, good for non pork eater. The breakfast could use an imaginative and good chef to offer a wider variety
I was looking forward to swimming but unfortunately the pool is closed for maintenance and this wasn’t communicated when I booked. Bathtub had hotwater but the shower was only lukewarm not hot. Excellent breakfast!
Lovely staff and clean, spacious room
The staff were lovely - everyone is very welcoming and the service is great. Breakfast had fresh fruit and an omelette station everyday. I didn't have time to use the pool but it looked quite nice. Had a tasty meal at the restaurant attached, The Copper Pot, where I also had great service.
I was in Lilongwe for one week. I am glad that I only booked this hotel for two nights. The only good thing good about this hotel is the location and the staff. The rooms are dated. It looks like grandmothers bedroom. Which was not a dealbreaker. The the Wi-Fi sucks. You can almost say that it really is nonexistent. The staff tried to resolve the situation and it really did not help. The dealbreaker breaker for me was found out that YouTube is blocked. I usually exercise to videos on YouTube in the morning. So this hotel wants to give you horrible Wi-Fi service and and censor of what you watch. I was out.
We had a great stay here for a few nights with our toddler after a long flight from UK. The room was beautiful and well presented, and the staff were very friendly and accommodating. The swimming pool was lovely and very child-friendly with a separate shallow pool. Only a few complaints - there were no mosquito nets, only peaceful sleep tabs, which were ok but not as effective as nets, and the external fire doors were locked at night. We had a slight confusion with payment at the end but this was quickly and professionally resolved by the manager. Would definitely recommend this place to other travellers especially families, and will be staying there again on our way back from Malawi
No Rooms Available
Unfortunately after paying for everything online when I arrived at the hotel they informed me that they had been sold out for over a week and didn't have an available room. The front desk said sorry and hope you find a place. I also tried to reach a person at hotels.com to help me find another room and couldn't reach anyone. Hotels.com needs to make sure there are rooms available before taking peoples money.
the hotel wifi is not stable you can only connect to two devices at a time and the gym is completely run down
The place is serene and quiet, I just found it odd not to have DStv at such a Hotel. The Bar is not open to customer choices but rather kind of dictated one.
Great experience
Great environment. Wonderful restuarant with a nice pool area for relaxation. Also conveniently located close to Crossroads shopping complex and City Mall.
Short stay at crossroads
Stayed at Crossroads hotel, we had a very welcome reception from the day we arrived, the team at crossroads were very polite and cheerful. Food was very nice we had plenty of options to select from, i highly recommend this place for anyone who wants a little vacation or business, its truly a relaxing place and atmosphere is wonderful!
Very convenient location. Food court, stores and banking nearby.
Hotel centrally located with malls and eating places just a walk away. very convenient but if you drink alcohol make arrangements to get its outside the hotel. No alcohol here.
My stay was good. Everything was okay except the gym did not have towels. It was difficult to workout without wiping sweat. I suggest they always have towels and drinking water available at the gym
Didn't like the breakfast. Also the bathroom doesn't have the dryer, as it is fixed to the wall in the room - in the drawer.
Ones again.
It is always a good experience at Crossroads. That's why it is my first choice 😉
kFriendly helpful staff, good buffet breakfast, and dinner at restaurant was quite good (although "spicy" could have been spicier). The rooms look a bit tired/worn, but are comfortable.
I stayed in the Deluxe aisle of the hotel and I really appreciate the comfort and space of the rooms.
Internet was not good. Alcohol was not served.
Overnight Transit
Great location, good WiFi, good food. It was a great overnight stop on my way out of Malawi.
Although not advertised this Hotel has closed its bar and you can no longer drink alcohol in the restaurant either. The furnishings, carpet and general condition of this Hotel needs a major overhaul. The only positive element was the Copper Pot restaurant which did offer a very good selection of Indian and Chinese dishes.
Mix of good and bad
I stayed in the newer suites and rooms. Very clean, comfortable and well kept. Good service from staff. Breakfast is boring but ok for Malawi. problems included no hot water in half the rooms and limited controls for air cond (basically on or off). Some of the rooms (including suites) have unsealed louvre windows and thus mosquitoes (ask for sealed windows and check when you get there). Ask for a room with a remote control air conditioner. Check the hot water right away and complain if you don't have any. S
Clean, comfortable, friendly, good food.
Great stay generally and I will stay there again. Only real problems were luke warm water on first morning. WIFI speed and intermittent connection problems with voucher system.
OK hotel, but I do not think the owner treats and pays his employees well. Shame.
Service was excellent; room conditions pretty good; restaurants a bit expensive but good, especially The Copper Pot.
zero value for the money
room amenities are so poor. old cheap furniture. no electricity for air condition. very poor food. in brief. it is really cheap please for big money.
Great stay
Fantastic
Staff friendly but in need of training. Breakfast not good. Wifi code had to be changed every day.
First time in Lilongwe
The staff is friendly and eager to please. The pictures on the website are pretty accurate. If you are staying more than a day or so, I would recommend the Deluxe Rooms. The Deluxe Rooms are larger, have better furniture, larger bathroom with magnifying mirror, and more dependable air condition. If you need extra internet vouchers, ask the front desk. They were happy to give me an extra voucher when needed. A breakfast buffet is included.
Decent property among few options in Lilongwe
Superior room was decent, wouldn't stay in standard room. Check your bill carefully as I got charged for laundry services that I didn't procure. The "free internet" is misleading. You get a voucher for 350MB of internet access per day which is about enough check and send a few emails then you have to purchase more airtime. The airtime is cheap and is usable all over the city, so that factor is actually convenient but if hotels.com advertises free internet as part of the room rate, it should at least be unlimited daily access at the hotel facility.
great stay
It was a great stay except for some of the items that were not available in the room. There was only one bathroom, no extra tissue, and the shower hose was leaking at the base that led to the whole bathroom being flooded with water after shower. The breakfast was good though. Not bad but one of those things you encounter in hotels!
I had a great time. Thanks to all your staff for giving us the best holiday ever
Good friendly service; a problem with cold water for bath/ shower was quickly remedied.
Lilongwe
Good hotel in Lilongwe
Nice
Will go there again, stayed there for 8 days and it is much better than the sunbird capital
An OK stay
Internet poor. Service inconsistent. Nice but in an average kind of way.
OK for a quiet stay
The staff were nice, the hotel was clean, but it was very very quiet at night.
Not a great stay
No free Wifi and room service comes at a charge. I will not stay here again
Great stay for business.
I stayed at the Crossroads for 3 weeks on business. Location was excellent. Close to city center and some very good restaurants. Service was also very good. For those travelers used to visiting Africa, the hotel is well rated at a 4. By Western standards, it would be probably a 2 or 3. It has a flat screen TV but maybe 19 inches, so difficult to view clearly from the bed. Hot water in the morning, like most African owned hotels, is a coin toss. But when you are married and traveling alone for 3 week, a cold shower once a week is probably a good idea anyway.
The staff made at crossroads made me feel very welcome. Service with a smile always, and genuine. I recommend it very highly
Ok visit
Short stay, hotel met our needs. By no means a luxury hotel (by US standards), but clean and pleasant. Most staff amazingly helpful. Hotel food was lacking when we visited (long time to get service and pretty mediocre) and we had a power outage another night so difficult to get food. Highly recommend getting a driver to visit some lovely restaurants a bit away (e.g., Mamma Mia and Buchanans). Overall, met our needs and wouldn't be opposed to staying again.
Reception appalling
staff unpleasant, systems hopeless. They can't handle booking thru Expedia
Terrible!
No Hot water and poorly maintained.
excellent high-end option
Crossroads was great. 24/7 room service, a basic but functional gym, and proximity to a lot of useful things in the complex (money exchange, grocery store, cafe, fast food restaurants and laundry/souvenirs) is key since it's hard to get around with no car. Only critiques are that the front desk staff should be a bit friendlier, we were charged 1000kwacha for a cup of tea that our driver drank with us at breakfast(?!), and the pool is under construction (so loud, and no pool).
appalling
We had request a room with two single beds and a no smoking room as I was travelling with my grown up son. We did not get either and they flatly refused to change us even though this request was made over two weeks before we arrived. the supplied him a camp bed. We only had two towels between use and they refused to let us have any more. We asked for help and changes, but the reception staff would stood looking at us saying 'sorry' . Also we were attracted by the pool which was empty and repairs were going on over the eating area. The food was appalling and despite there being facilities for drink including tea bags etc - there was no kettle so pointless. It has been my worst hotel experience ever. Despite complaining they have not reimbursed us or feel the need to do soDO NOT GO THERE
Great, but...
Very good experience at Crossroads, except I did not have hot water in my shower for 2 of 3 days. There were some water issues for the entire hotel with the pool being worked on, but cold showers are no fun. I've stayed here for a total of three weeks in my trips to Lilongwe, but the recent trip left a chill.
Not recommended
Very poor. Flaking paint in my room, bath tap that only worked in the shower position, bedside light with loose connection; restaurant that could not produce items on the menu on 3 separate occasions - thank goodness that. there was a pizza place around the corner; confusion on check out when I was initially charged for a pre-paid room. Need I go on.
Great place to stay.
Our overall stay was quite nice. The hotel aims to operate at a 5 star level which of course has it's challenges in Africa. The pool was closed for repairs and they were building additional structure to the lobby/pool area but kept the construction contained to the area. The hotel was clean and the staff were very friendly and went out of their way to help. It was a very nice stay. No free internet, but not expensive. Nice spa and workout room. The work-out room was a bit aging but well equipped for a smaller city in Africa. Older equipment, but quite usable.
Problems making a booking
They say first impressions are everything and this first impression wasn't great. I got to the hotel to be told that there was a problem with my booking through hotels.com and it hadn't come through. Consequently they were totally full and tried to send me to another hotel. This was despite the fact that other people were being served and checked in at the same time as me. I stood my ground and, after about 25mins, they reluctantly found me a room. As hotels in Lilongwe go, this is ok and the location is good, but do be careful making a booking through this website for this hotel.
Reasonable value for money
The hotel was reasonable value for money although there were certain aspects that lessened the pleasantness of the stay - the TV remote did not work and the remote itself had tape to hold-in the batteries - the reason for the remote not working batteries had been placed in the wrong way round! The shower head was not working properly and needed replacing but the maintenance person had to be persuaded that there was anything wrong with it - it was replaced in the end! Upon arrival the people at reception were not over-welcoming, especially when I asked for a room with one double bed init as opposed to two single beds - I was led to believe there were no such rooms!! Otherwise the stay was OK - the location was good close to shops and banks etc - breakfast waqs good - plenty to eat and plenty of choice - the restaurant was a disaster the first night - could not cope with large numbers at one time - people complaining about the wait to get order taken and between courses - we left in the end never having made it to a table. The next night was better but my fish with fries was cold when it arrived.
