Not worth it
They had a power cut, couldn’t turn the mani lights on (4 of them) because they were triggering power cut so they came and they taped it so we won’t use it, the place was dark! I had three kids with me so you can imagine! The back door curtains kept falling down so I had to put a blanket instead just to have some privacy! I would expect some kid of refund.
In the event we were upgraded to a cottage down the road, but still used the excellent facilities of the golf club for lovely breakfast. Recommended
Terrible experience - almost had to sleep in car
Disastrous experience. Was travelling for work and arriving late Sunday night but booked this location as they advertised no check in limits. I was told I would receive check in instructions in case the front desk was closed (which unless you’re arriving before 5pm on a week day it will be) but nothing arrived. I spent Friday - Sunday night trying to contact anyone at the venue to get help as I didn’t want to drive 160 miles and arrive without being able to get entry. I got through to their ‘urgent’ care line 3 times and left 3 messages (with a real person) that was passed on with an urgent reply needed. Nothing heard back. Ended up arriving at 11.30pm and not a staff member or instruction to sight. Walked around the desolate site for about 45 minutes whilst explaining to their emergency out of hours staff that I needed to get into a room and they just told me nothing could Be done and they couldn’t help. Eventually, after almost an hour, I walked down to where the rooms were situated (they are completely away from the reception) and in an unlit corner, on an A6 piece of paper, was a mobile number I could call. Thank god for the security guard who let me in eventually. For £150+ a night, I would have expected to be able to contact the venue by call, email, message, etc in the 72 hours I was trying. Especially when they are the ones who failed to give me any details of what to do to check in. This isn’t a hotel nor should be advertised as one.
Stick to Golf. Not hospitality
The accommodation was quite nice although the carpets were heavily stained. I think the Gold club should stick to golf as their hospitality is shocking. We arrived early as we were meeting friends. Our intention was to arrive early, identify where we are staying and get a taxi into the near by town to meet friends and not having to worry about drinking and driving. I approached one member of staff who was very polite and explained that we were staying and what our intentions were. As i was talking, someone rudely shouted out from an office that check in time isn't until 4pm. Although it clearly states 3pm on the arrival email. After looking at the room location, I went to the bar as being new to the area, I did not have any taxi numbers. I spoke to a member of staff and asked if they could call me a taxi or give me a number so I could ring. I had to ask again as she just stared at me. I asked again and explained that I do not know the area and would like to get a taxi into town and again asked if she had a number or could call one. She again looked at me, eventually saying No. Eventually one of the locals came to my rescue an provided a number. I found a complete lack of hospitality. To not even be able to get a taxi number and the rudeness of check in times.
very good
the place is very good the club house closes early but the white horse around the corner was good for food and beverages
Highly recommend
Beautiful setting to relax for a few days. Accommodation is very comfortable and spacious with a wonderful view. Staff were very friendly. Breakfast is excellent.
Lovely room. Disappointed with Golf Club food availability. Booking advised open until
The POLO Suite - so good
We were very pleasantly surprised to see that the suite had been made up with two beds as we had hoped. Great accommodation and amenities. Breakfast was good with plenty of choice and excellent service. We will certainly be returning. Only comment to make would be air conditioning would make it perfect, less traffic noise. Margaret
Excellent stay. If I looked for fault would be that they stop serving food at 4.30. Booked local pub and on arrival they let us know they have no chef! So sorry was starving
The Cowdray Suite is well designed and cost effective option for a familly, with a nice main bedroom and a smaller room with twin beds, both ensuite. Brekfast was good. However, there were a couple of niggles. Unfortunately, there is virtually no mobile or wifi signal in the main bedroom. We couldn't turn off the radiator in the small bedroom, and we had to wrap it in blankets to stifle the heat it was pumping out. Finally, the lodge is next to the road. We didn't find it too intrusive, though I was awoken at 5.30am by motorcycle racers one morning.
Beautiful setting, great value
Such a beautiful setting with the golf course clubhouse as a breakfast venue. Room was very comfortable and we looked out over the Cowdray park ruins in the distance. The lodge room is just a room complex - if you want to stay in the little round house that is called the Bothy. There is a nice pub called the White Horse nearby for pub grub
Toilet leaked!
Place was nice- however, toilet leaked in the middle of the night and the water covered half of the bathroom floor. Wanted to speak to someone on our departure but there was no one to speak to other than the waitress that served us breakfast.
Perfect
Beautiful setting overlooking the golf course and perfect for the Cowdray Christmas light up trail event. LOVED it! Room was amazing too ....... more like an apartment
Cowdray lodge
The room was lovely and breakfast nice. Most of the staff we encountered were very helpful and friendly but when we wanted to ask about taxis one evening we were told they were closed by a very rude man. So in the evening there is no one to help if you have any queries. Just glad we had no issues at check in.
Very pleasant
What a superb place to stay. Lovely and clean, really friendly welcome and a pleasant walk to the nearby White Horse pub for a pizza, where the welcome and friendliness matched.
Very pleased
A really pleasant place to stay in a lovely accommodation.
Very disappointing
Regarding our previous conversation - Booking described as lodge, not room. Image shows lodge but lodge isn’t provided. Multiple images imply interior of showed DETACHED lodges. No photo of shared building that was actually provided. Advert qualifies as gross misrepresentation. VERY disappointing as we only booked because we thought we were getting the detached lodge the listing shows. We wanted peace and quiet and didn’t get that as heard people in the room above and adjacent.
A lovely small lodge in a great location.
A lovely little place to stay in a great location. We have stayed here before and we will return again. A small number of rooms in a lodge beside the golf course. Breakfast is in the clubhouse. On site parking is good.
Good place to stay.
Stayed in the Polo Suite. Very comfortable room next to the golf course, great views towards the castle. Good breakfast and staff were lovely. I had to ask how/where to check in but this was swiftly handled. I'd stay again.

We stayed in The Bothy, fabulous for a romantic night away. No noise from the neighbours but while the bath was lovely it wasn’t practical having it in the bedroom. The room does have a smell of damp and there is no ventilation other than opening windows - a quiet extractor fan in both the bedroom and toilet would be a welcome addition. For a romantic night away this is a great location but 4 nights it was too much.
