It was an excellent stay! I'll definitely consider this hotel next time.
You get what you pay for. The beds are very uncomfortable and the room is tiny but if you are just sleeping there it does the job. No elevator means you’re going to get your steps in which isn’t horrible unless you’re like my parents with bad knees. The location is amazing though! Close to the subway and in a beautiful area
Great location and nice rooms! The walls were a little thin, but other than that no complaints!
Perfect for a weekend in the city!
We loved it. This was the perfect spot for an affordable stay in Manhattan. It was simple, no frills. We spent all our time out in the city, so we only needed the basics and the Chelsea Inn met every one of them!
AVOID AT ALL COSTS
I would give this zero stars if I could. My flight was delayed so I got there pretty late, but there was absolutely no one at the front desk. Apparently whoever was working that night was away “restocking” something, but I was greeted by someone who didn’t even work there and was clearly high on something. When I got up to the hotel, it looked like they did the bare minimum of picking up and making the bed, but I highly question whether or not anything was clean. One of the bathroom towels still felt damp. I had to leave abruptly due to a family emergency, so I checked out via text message since there’s pretty much never anyone working at the front desk. I was told I would be getting a refund for the days I didn’t stay, but I have yet to see the refund. Avoid this place at all costs. Spring for a nicer hotel. Trust me.
This is the second time I’ve stayed at the property. Both times I had a similar Nile room with private bath. The first time I was on the third floor and the room was small but perfect. This time I asked to stay on a lower floor so I wouldn’t have to carry my bag upstairs. I ended up on the first floor right across from the reception desk, which turned out to be a bit noisy. Also the room was a little shabbier and had no bedside light, just the overhead light which I had to get up to turn off and then walk through the dark to get back in bed. Also the blow dryer in the bathroom didn’t work. It turns out it was the plug. But since the dryer is attached to the wall and there was only one outlet I couldn’t move it to another plug. When I went out to ask for assistance around 8am the desk was empty. I ended up just letting my hair air dry. Next time I’ll bring my own. I will stay at the Chelsea Inn again. It’s very conveniently located and the price is very good for the city.
Hii
Thank you so much. Clean, quiet, excellent service.
I really enjoy the Chelsea. Nice and quiet, and you bus your own room so it feels more private. Great staff — responsive and nice.
The room was clean and functional. Good location. Would go back.
It was easy to check in, especially if you’re reading the instructions given to you via email. Clean and quite!
Well priced, clean, nice stay.
Clean room, excellent location, good price. No elevator, the room was not ready at 3:00 PM and the water in the shower has no pressure. Good experience overall.
Everything was perfect! Rooms were nice and warm - there are no elevators but that wasn't a problem for us (it only took two flights of stairs for our room which is fine lol) The hotel is super close to many subway tunnels that head towards tourist attractions. Staff was chill :)
It is not implicit that this property has no elevator. I had to go through 5 flights of stairs. The rooms were really hot and the heat/air doesn’t work.
Not so good service.
This property is in a great location! I enjoyed my stay here. As other reviews state, the rooms are on the smaller side, but it’s honestly all you need for a few nights! If your room has the pipes in it, then the room can get incredibly warm! Otherwise, nice stay. Would stay again.
Chelsea in February
Excellent city location with Trader Joes nearby. Friendly, helpful staff who responded quickly to TV and safe issue. Especially grateful for “no party” houserules after long days tourguiding. Small room but perfect for those out and about all day. Good size fridge, also coffee machine and microwave. Very clean and extra towels, snacks and coffee upon request. Dated furniture, but no frills is all I needed, so good value for money in my book.
The property was centrally located to what we were interested in. It was perfect for the occasion. While it may be on the smaller side it was cozy and well furnished.
It’s a tiny room in an old building, you get what you pay for. We visited in the winter and the small room is stifling hot (at least above 85 degrees) and you can’t adjust the temp. Turning the valve on the radiator doesn’t help. We had to open our window (it was in the 20s outside) just to prevent from burning up. Worse yet, the old radiator will start making an extremely loud banging sound in the middle of the night every night. This place is pretty bad, but if it is all you can afford, it will do.
Great
Super convenient place. Clean, quiet and safe.
Good value
Clean and comfortable, tho our room was on 5th floor walk up. Basic room. Good value for nyc.
Cozy in Chelsea
The Chelsea Inn was a great place to use as a jumping off point for our whirlwind trip to NYC. The hotel was well-kept and easy to access. We had an issue with the room being cold and it was fixed promptly. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff.
It was great but one night the room was extremely cold but besides that everything was great!
Stayed on the top floor with no elevator. I hate stairs so much. Aside from that it was a good stay
The linens weren’t as clean as I would’ve liked, but the location and convenience of the complex made up for it
Check in/out was easy, be weary there is no elevator (we were on the 5th floor). Walls are pretty thin, but hotel room was clean and comfortable. Water pressure was terrible, showering was difficult.
It was great. Quiet and clean. Nice staff.
Clean, safe, no frills in Chelsea
Great for NYC on a budget
A great find for a budget trip to Manhattan, the Chelsea had some nice features, a few not unexpected shortcomings and some small annoyances that seem easy to fix. The good stuff: excellent location, wonderful staff, clean and modern look to the room, comfy mattress. Not so good but not unexpected for the price: the walls are thin and the pipes are old, which made for a noisy night. We played some green noise on Spotify after the first night and slept well. Small annoyances that could easily be fixed: no bedside table on one side, broken towel rack and clothes hooks in the bathroom and, last-and-worst, the fitted sheet was too small and kept coming off the mattress. The Chelsea is a short walk to Washington Park and Greenwich Village and much more affordable than anything you’d find in those areas.
It was a cute spot in the city for our overnight stay.
It was great for the price. If you are looking for a cheap clean place with the very basics to crash in the city, this is a good deal. Very convenient with checking in and out. In a central location. The only complaint I have is that the shower pressure is a bit low. I'll likely be staying here again.
I liked the room and the price was good but there is no elevator, so this is not accessible or pleasant if you have more than two bags.
The staff was incredible! Everything was great and clean, my only gripe is with the fact that there was no hot water when i took a shower. it’s an old building though so whatever
Closet
No window in room. Thank God girl at the front desk was a pleasure and helped me
I needed a relatively inexpensive room for the night that didn't compromise safety and cleanliness. This room was very comfortable, well appointed (I hadn't expected a coffeemaker, a microwave, and refrigerator). The bathroom was MUCH bigger than I'd expected. Had I known it had a jacuzzi tub, I would have brought some bath salts!
Awful service, awfult checkin process. One step above a hostel.
When we arrived we were greeted by a wonderful lady that was extremely helpful getting us our room and making sure we were set. And she did warn us about the cast iron heating which was quite hot and did bang in the night. We would stay again!
An excellent place to stay at in an extremely convenient part of the city
Amazing location; no frills!
Very nice experience, would recommend highly
Not going to stay here again.
There was a burning hot pipe right behind the head of our bed. We had no control over how hot that was. And it was uncomfortable. The bed was otherwise comfortable. The television did not work. The WiFi was very spotty. There were dirty tissues under the bed and detritus in the hard to reach corners around the bed. The fridge in the room either leaked water as it defrosted or froze our leftovers when I turned it up slightly. The bathroom was pretty nice. Staff was pleasant.
Loved it
The hotel is very old, narrow and without an elevator . No house keeping, the customer must get rid of the trash , change towels and replace the bed sheets themselves. The only good thing about the hotel is the area, it is great for walking , lively and near subway.
Convenient for me
The room is small, but clean, and the location was perfect for me. Staff was friendly and welcoming.
I was very satisfied with my recent stay at the Chelsea Inn, as I was in previous stays. It is just what I want for accommodation in New York. The prices are reasonable, the rooms are modest but clean and comfortable, it’s in an interesting neighborhood, and several Metro lines are within walking distance. I would, and plan to, stay there again.
You get what you pay for
Good for the price. Clean Wifi patchy most of the time. Beds are wobbly (frame moved when getting in or out of bed) Fridge and microwave in room.
Wonderful Stay
I enjoyed stying at Chelsea inn it location is awesome lots of shopping and eating and transportation is really close
Cute little hotel in beautiful old building, Mix up with check out time caused a bit of grief
Excellent hotel and property. Staff was very helpful.
Our room was above a night club. We basically got no sleep for the 2 nights we were there. We would not have stayed there if we knew that. Every thing else was fine.
The room was very clean, organized and very affordable, highly recommend it.
Overall good
Overall a good stay. The one annoying thing (and it was very annoying) was dealing with a guest who shared a bathroom with me. They literally turned it into their own personal bathroom (hanging towels in common spaces, leaving dirty towels and hair everywhere) and I had to constantly step around their dirty towels on the floor. For that, I wish this hotel at least cleaned the bathrooms each day. Not really a complaint but a reminder for guests: for towels, soap, toilet paper, even a plunger for the toilet, it's all in the first floor closet underneath the stairs.
Great location in New York. The rooms were comfortable and the staff were helpful and welcoming.
The Chelsea Inn was in a great location. Great for walking around Manhattan and subway stations nearby for travelling around the boroughs. Staff were great, friendly and really helpful. Room was small but had all we needed. Would definitely recommend!!
I liked the location, very convenient, next to subway stations, and walkable distance to Times Square or the Empire State Building. I did not like the room size, photos do no reflect the real size, too small, and the heat was too high, could not be change. Does not have elevator and stair case is narrow and steep.
Great spot, okay bed.
Great location and great price. Only real issue was the bed was not the most comfortable.
Buena ubicacion ! y muy amable la atencion al llegar !!
The hotel itself was good. It wasn't super luxurious, and my room wasn't the most spacious (nothing like in the pictures), but it definitely wasn't bad. It had a big bed, a microwave, coffee maker, refrigerator, mini closet, and TV. Yes, the bathroom is shared, and it's awkward sharing a bathroom with strangers (it appears to be 1:2 - one bathroom for two separate rooms), but it was clean and in good condition. If you want something cheap just to lay your head and put your stuff down, then this isn't the worst place to be. It's good and convenient - and conveniently priced. The water cooler was broken, though, so I had to go out (to the Halal trucks) to get a bottle of water. My stay was good, and maybe given the chance, I'd do it again.
Experience the charming Chelsea Inn
The staff was friendly and attentive. I liked that I only had to share a bathroom with another person, not the entire floor. The rooms had wooden floors and good woodwork. I could relax knowing I wasn't going to see bugs. Overall it was an enjoyable experience.
Great location, comfortable room!
Everything was lovely for a short stay and the location is amazing! Highly recommend. The only issue we had was that the bathroom sink (and to a lesser degree the shower) didn’t really drain (took an hour or so after brushing teeth etc), but a minor inconvenience compared to the ideal location. Staff would have a little basket of snacks out for grabs at the front desk, which was cute and very appreciated! Would definitely stay here again.
Awesome staff!
Great and very friendly staff. Check in was super easy and left with a smile on my face. I would definitely recommend and stay again
Great location!! Clean. Good service.
Good location but worst bed ever
Hotel well located in Chelsea neighborhoods and easy to access with self-checking system (the hotel sent us the passcodes to enter hotel and room before our arrival). However, the room wasn’t very cleaned, and next to the lobby and laundry which was very noisy. Furthermore, the bed was very uncomfortable and bowl-shaped. My friend and I had to do our best not to crush each other during the night. I've attached a photo of the underside of the bed to show you the state of the box spring, which explains the hollow in the bed. Our other friend slept on the sofa bed which was hard and very uncomfortable too. I would not recommend this hotel if you are looking for a comfortable and enjoyable stay…
Very clean and cozy. Not the biggest but it is perfect for a couple. The staff were nice however there was no front desk till 5 pm which can be inconvenient for those who are checking in early. You should be able to get into your room anyways bc they send an email with ur room # and passcode to get in. The subway is down a few blocks, the street is quiet and not busy unless the trash truck comes which is very loud in the mornings but doesn’t last long. The ac didn’t work but we stayed in winter so thankfully we could open the screened window from some cool air which was perfect. The rooms are heated very well! Overall very nice stay, will be staying again for future nyc trips.
Superb location. Wonderful old building in excellent shape. Rooms are teeny but well organized. Great value for the price. Biggest issue: no elevator. We had a junior suite & those are on lower floors.
La propiedad esta muy bien pero deben de colocar de antemano que no tiene elevadores y que no hay personal 24/7 ni housekeeping diariamente.
Clean convenient affordable
Great value, safe, clean & convenient. No frills but great.
This was perfect for what we needed it for. It's right on the F train which has stops at Herald Square, Bryant Park, and Rockefeller Center - perfect if you are in the city for Christmassy things. It's in a great neighborhood out of the tourist trap midtown area. The room was small but big enough for three of us (we got a room with a pull out couch). We also had a room with a private bath, which not all of these rooms have (but it's very clear when booking which type you are picking). We were also lucky to be on the 1st floor, since this is a 5 story walk-up. The bed was not very comfortable (sort of caved in in the middle and very squeaky!) but for significantly less money than any other hotel I could find for the busiest tourism week in NYC, it was fine!
Great location, broken t.v, heater, and no repair
This place has an excellent location near Union Square, making taking the subway easy. There's also a Whole Foods and Target at Union Square. An excellent Japanese restaurant nearby and a great French bakery and a couple of bagel shops, as well as a McDonald's for cheaper options. So we were happy with that. However, the sleeper sofa in the room was unusable as a bed as there is a metal bar down the middle. We reserved for three people, so we needed that as a bed. We ended up having to go to Target for a blow up bed for our daughter to sleep on. Also the t.v. stopped working the 6th day of our 10 day stay and, even though they kept promising to fix it, they never did, and they offered no reduction in fees for that. On the 7th night, the heat also stopped working, and the room got very cold. Again, we notified them of this, and it took another day to fix it , so we were without heat for two days. Just unexcusable! We would have checked out and demanded our money back for the remainder of our stay, but we only had one night left. We won't stay at this hotel again. The lack of heating was the last straw.
clean and nice!
room was clean and as expected. staff was very friendly and helpful! check in and out was easy.
Small and run down
When I was booking my stay, I didn't know I will be sharing bathroom. Anyway am like that's okay however the person am sharing with pop that splashes all over the toilet bowl. Instead of him clearing it he just left it like that. I was not happy each time I use the restroom to shower or etc. complain to the front desk, she assures me that housekeeping cleans restrooms daily that someone will be there to clean for that day. However no one came because the pop splash and toilet paper were still there. I had to do the cleaning myself,
Basic accommodations but good value for money in a great location.
Dirty
There were some strange rattling sound the last night I was there that disturbed my rest. Otherwise good place to stay
Its location in manhattan is good. It’s inconvenient to walk 4 flight of stairs to the room with luggage
Staff were very nice. Room was small but it is NYC. Excellent Mexican restaurant right up the street. Great stay overall close to subway.
I was very pleased with the staff. They were very nice, accommodating, and helpful. We will definitely stay here again. The only slight issue we experienced was a slow draining shower but it did not affect our experience.
Great value.
Very impressed! Great value.
Really great location, incredibly affordable, and perfect for me and my sister. Two small people that don’t need a lot of room. Front desk person was very nice and helpful.
Absolutely great location at a reasonable price. Rooms are very small, but its NYC and thats to be expected. Staff was great and Samantha was wonderful to deal with and very accommodateing. Only big negative is the thermostats in the rooms are pointless. Both of our rooms were way too hot even in Dec. With no functional way to adjust the temp. We used the thermostat and it did nothing. Informed the staff one morning and they said the heat would be off for the day and it would cool down. And it did, but shot right back up by that evening when we were ready for bed.2 nights it was almost too unbearable to sleep.
Good price and comfortable place to stay!
Great and cheap little gem
Central location, no frills, clean, what else does one need? Loved the convenience.
Very central to everything in ny. We enjoyed our stay
This was amazing, very centrally located. Near all the major midtown sights and right by the subway. I would definitely stay here again!
Great place, friendly staff (thank you Wilma!)
The room and the things in it were clean. The bed seemed a bit wonky at first but I slept deep through the night. The staff was incredibly kind. We checked in early and checked out late. Wilma went above and beyond to be hospitable. She explained to us how the coffee machine worked, and helped us with check in, check out, and even stored out bags for a couple of hours while we got breakfast. I will definitely come back. And the reason I am coming back is because of the great staff, like Wilma! Thanks, Wilma!
we reported that the sheets had stains and the staff didn't even bother, we complained about the spotty internet, and they can not even bother again...so disappointed
I had an amazing stay at Chelsea Inn! The staff were exceptionally kind, friendly, and helpful, which made the experience truly memorable. The hospitality alone makes this one of the best places to stay. I also appreciated the complimentary snacks at the front desk a thoughtful touch! The rooms, while on the smaller side, were impeccably clean and felt cozy and comfortable. The location is unbeatable, with easy access to the subway and nearby attractions, making it perfect for exploring the city. The only downside was the lack of an elevator, which made carrying a heavy suitcase up the stairs a bit of a challenge. However, this was a minor inconvenience compared to the overall experience. I would absolutely stay here again!
My son and I loved our stay there. The only thing I would let anyone know is they do not have an elevator so if you cannot get up the stairs make sure you get the bottom floor. The staff were very helpful and great. The room was bigger than I thought it would be from the pictures.
The accommodation advertised space for bags to be left before checking into the room but it wasn’t until after booking that I was notified they would not be able to hold bags. Also that there wouldn’t be a front desk attendant until 1pm, despite advertising there being one from 8am-5pm. I tried to call and schedule an early check in around 8am and was told to call back around 12pm, which I did and was then told the room would not be ready until “sometime around 4pm”. So I was forced to carry my luggage through New York for several hours until I was able to check into my room. This was a terrible way to start my trip, extremely inconvenient and unacceptable.
Loved the Chelsea Inn!!! I would definitely recommend it for anyone looking for a safe stay in NYC, I’ll definitely be returning to stay here!!! The vibes were so cute!!! Looking from pictures online to seeing it in person, it’s exactly what you expect. It’s nice cozy & warm!!! It definitely left a last impression on me, it’s easily accessible through the subway and walking and cvs is right around the corner if you need anything fast and last minute!
Great place but hated the stairs, but that’s fine. The elevator.
Everything was good
It was so cute!

Great stay!
Great experience and really easy to book! They also email all the info to get into your room and front door so it's a very quick and easy process!
