There were some strange rattling sound the last night I was there that disturbed my rest. Otherwise good place to stay
Its location in manhattan is good. It’s inconvenient to walk 4 flight of stairs to the room with luggage
Staff were very nice. Room was small but it is NYC. Excellent Mexican restaurant right up the street. Great stay overall close to subway.
I was very pleased with the staff. They were very nice, accommodating, and helpful. We will definitely stay here again. The only slight issue we experienced was a slow draining shower but it did not affect our experience.
Great value.
Very impressed! Great value.
Really great location, incredibly affordable, and perfect for me and my sister. Two small people that don’t need a lot of room. Front desk person was very nice and helpful.
Absolutely great location at a reasonable price. Rooms are very small, but its NYC and thats to be expected. Staff was great and Samantha was wonderful to deal with and very accommodateing. Only big negative is the thermostats in the rooms are pointless. Both of our rooms were way too hot even in Dec. With no functional way to adjust the temp. We used the thermostat and it did nothing. Informed the staff one morning and they said the heat would be off for the day and it would cool down. And it did, but shot right back up by that evening when we were ready for bed.2 nights it was almost too unbearable to sleep.
Good price and comfortable place to stay!
Great and cheap little gem
Central location, no frills, clean, what else does one need? Loved the convenience.
Very central to everything in ny. We enjoyed our stay
This was amazing, very centrally located. Near all the major midtown sights and right by the subway. I would definitely stay here again!
Great place, friendly staff (thank you Wilma!)
The room and the things in it were clean. The bed seemed a bit wonky at first but I slept deep through the night. The staff was incredibly kind. We checked in early and checked out late. Wilma went above and beyond to be hospitable. She explained to us how the coffee machine worked, and helped us with check in, check out, and even stored out bags for a couple of hours while we got breakfast. I will definitely come back. And the reason I am coming back is because of the great staff, like Wilma! Thanks, Wilma!
we reported that the sheets had stains and the staff didn't even bother, we complained about the spotty internet, and they can not even bother again...so disappointed
I had an amazing stay at Chelsea Inn! The staff were exceptionally kind, friendly, and helpful, which made the experience truly memorable. The hospitality alone makes this one of the best places to stay. I also appreciated the complimentary snacks at the front desk a thoughtful touch! The rooms, while on the smaller side, were impeccably clean and felt cozy and comfortable. The location is unbeatable, with easy access to the subway and nearby attractions, making it perfect for exploring the city. The only downside was the lack of an elevator, which made carrying a heavy suitcase up the stairs a bit of a challenge. However, this was a minor inconvenience compared to the overall experience. I would absolutely stay here again!
My son and I loved our stay there. The only thing I would let anyone know is they do not have an elevator so if you cannot get up the stairs make sure you get the bottom floor. The staff were very helpful and great. The room was bigger than I thought it would be from the pictures.
The accommodation advertised space for bags to be left before checking into the room but it wasn’t until after booking that I was notified they would not be able to hold bags. Also that there wouldn’t be a front desk attendant until 1pm, despite advertising there being one from 8am-5pm. I tried to call and schedule an early check in around 8am and was told to call back around 12pm, which I did and was then told the room would not be ready until “sometime around 4pm”. So I was forced to carry my luggage through New York for several hours until I was able to check into my room. This was a terrible way to start my trip, extremely inconvenient and unacceptable.
Loved the Chelsea Inn!!! I would definitely recommend it for anyone looking for a safe stay in NYC, I’ll definitely be returning to stay here!!! The vibes were so cute!!! Looking from pictures online to seeing it in person, it’s exactly what you expect. It’s nice cozy & warm!!! It definitely left a last impression on me, it’s easily accessible through the subway and walking and cvs is right around the corner if you need anything fast and last minute!
Great place but hated the stairs, but that’s fine. The elevator.
Everything was good
It was so cute!
Nice!!!
Just right for shoppers. Everything you need in close proximity
Had a great time. Perfect for the price!
Inexpensive hotel with small rooms that have basic requirements. Staff is very responsive and helpful. Drawbacks are the lobby is noisy, wifi signal is spotty, and shower pressure is mediocre. Good value for money but could disappoint those wanting fancy digs.
Slightly better than a dump
The room was full of dust. The bed mattress tipped up when we both sat on the opposite end. The air conditioner did not work. When we opened it to make it work we noticed the air filter was filthy, full of dust balls as if it hadn’t been changed it a long time. The remote control for the tv did not work we had to manually turn on the Tv. When we called for service two times we were sent to voice mail when the receptionist was downstairs doing nothing as we discovered when we went down to seek help. The receptionist bad mouthed me when I sighed from being out of breath from climbing the five floors. There is no elevator and very long steep steps to the fifth floor. The decorum is disconnected and random. There was little water pressure in shower or bathroom sink. The grey carpet going up the steps is filthy and very, very old. I will make sure my friends do not stay here.
No sleep, not comfortable.
The room is very small. You have to complete a form and upload your drivers license AND credit card photo to a suspect online form in order to get an email to get in. The beds are uncomfortable and you will be kept up all night with the hammer-like noise made by the radiator heat. You can also hear every noise in the rooms and halls around you. Avoid.
The way the checkin and precheckin communication was uncomfortable and poorly done
Flood I had to leave at 4am
Disappointing
The room was clean and the neighborhood was fine. Otherwise I wasn’t crazy about this place. Building was old with no elevator. The room was fairly recently remodeled and in good enough shape but was tiny, very noisy from both interior and exterior noise and the bed was super uncomfortable— like sleeping on a box spring. Did not sleep well at all.
Fantastic location, low maintenance but clean/modern. Great price. Would definitely use again!
This was such a fun place to stay! It felt like living in your own nyc apartment, would definitely recommend. The only problem I had was with the staff. When checking in they weren’t understanding at all, didn’t want to answer any of my questions, and overall made me feel stupid for not answering their calls the day of the check in while I was on back to back flights. I had no idea there was more things I had to fill out after traveling for 24 hours, got no updates until the day of when my phone was on airplane mode. The front door has a lock with a code you can only get after filling out the forms, so getting inside was pretty difficult for me. Even after getting the code, there wasn’t any instructions. I figured out getting inside after another guest helped me out, telling me they struggled with it too. I can’t explain how uncomfortable I felt having to get inside the building everyday, it would’ve been great if someone on the front desk gave better or really any instruction instead of making me feel bad.
Great place to spend a few days! Great location and very clean. Also we were on 5th floor you have to walk but so worth it as it was so quiet!!!
It’s on the low end of price for hotels which is great if that’s what you are looking for. We had a shared bathroom with another room which worked out fine. The heat in the older building was a bit hard to control and the mattress and bedding could use an upgrade. Super convenient location for us and we have been there a few times now.
Chelsea Inn is fabulous! Yes there is no elevator but the service from the staff makes up for that. We did have a heating issue and they bent over backwards to help us. The rooms are small but they have everything you need. I would definitely stay again.
The staff was super helpful when we had questions and always very nice to us. The inn is in a good location, it's close to the main parts of Manhattan but in a less busy area. It's well connected by public transport and many attractions can be reached by a 20/30 minutes walk. Our room with private bathroom was comfortable enough for a short stay, there was a bit of dust in a couple of spots but otherwise it was clean.
acogedor
Excellent place to stay
Solid deal for the price!
You must register with full ID and security info in the days prior to your stay. Don't miss the messages from the property on the Hotels.com app and/or email/text. With that done you get an email the day before check-in with lobby and room access codes and wi-fi info. Everything went very smoothly apart from some amusing typos in the messages. My room (with private washroom) was small but very well appointed (coffee maker, bottled water, microwave, fridge, safe, nice TV) and comfortable (good bed, towels, HVAC control). Front desk periodically has humans but always has Keurig coffee and snacks. Location is good and well signed. Look for the black awning. Drawbacks: no luggage storage, maid service or elevator Solid deal for the price!
Cute hotel. But, not having an elevator is a small annoyance, especially if your room is on the 5th floor :-))
Avoid. You will regret staying here
You might think a hotel without an elevator would mention that upfront. Nope! You're thinking of a better place than the Chelsea Inn. That should be the headline, but it's hidden in the POLICIES section of their listing. How is "no elevator" a POLICY? Hope you like carrying stuff up narrow staircases! Did you want a room where you could control the temperature? Sorry, not here; they only turn on the heat at night, so if it's cold out and you sleep late, expect to freeze. Did you expect wifi because it's listed as an amenity? It exists, but when it works it's virtually unusable; it disconnects often and is unusably slow 98% of the time. Want to leave your bags at the front desk? Forget about it! Regularly scheduled room cleaning? Or a sign you hang on your door to request cleaning? Nope. Want to change rooms? You'll need that approved by someone offsite; the person at the front desk isn't empowered to help guests. For a closet, there's an 18-inch-wide particle board cabinet from Ikea's bargain bin. There's no phone in the room, and (obviously) no room service. There is no lobby. Only registered guests are allowed in the rooms, so don't expect to have any friends or relatives stop by. This may well be the worst hotel I've ever stayed in - and I've stayed in places that smelled of mold and had no blankets, and in places that rent rooms by the hour to guests who see that as a benefit, if you know what I mean. I would put the Chelsea Inn in the same category as those.
Great hitel and Location
We stayed in the cuty to see the Thanksgiving day parade
Only problem was bed comfortability but overall was great
Very friendly
This property is great value because of its amazing location and the quality of the room - spacious, equipped with a fridge, coffee machine, tv, and microwave. However, the WiFi doesn’t work at all and they are unapologetic about this. Depending on your room, it seems you either have no windows or you overlook the street, and there were a number of trucks servicing the nearby buildings late at night and in the wee hours so noisy. I didn’t think it bad for solo travel though if you have other places to be that have WiFi and you just need a base for a few days.
Excellent location, quiet and clean.
Great for a weekend in the city
We enjoyed our stay here. Great value in a nice location.
Great spot!
Stay was great, but Hotels.com screwed up on the booking and it was not enjoyable to deal with them. I will go direct next time.
It's an inexpensive place, no elevator, everything is mid. Hot water, quiet, comfortable enough that I've stayed here twice now. You can't leave bags for the day as there's no one on duty - you just key in the front door and into your room with a code.
Charming and clean
This was a great and friendly space. The staff are not on call 24 hrs a day but enough for me. They managed to move me from the 5th floor to to the 2nd floor after one day! Thank you!! The stairs are steep because it is an old refurbished building.the “houseman” moved my luggage for me. It was clean, safe and charming. The staff brought my Uber eats up to my room and he even told me a tip was unnecessary.
Walk up flat. Great friendly, helpful staff. Clean, well maintained. Quaint lack of elevator made a good adventure.
Pretty good if you don’t mind sharing bath, affordable and clean!
Clean and comfortable room. Easy access. Close to public transportation.
Great place to stay in New York City
Great place to stay in New York City incredibly clean and quiet. They only issue is no elevator so be prepared to climb a few stairs. It’s worth the effort. I will stay there again.
Very convenient location if you don’t have a car.
There are a lot of steps and no elevator. Other than that it was very clean. The staff helped me walk my stuff to the top. It was quiet. I was very pleased with the experience.
Loud and Uncomfortable
Hotel doesn’t have an elevator and we were located on the 5th floor. Inside the room was a radiator that banged very loudly each night. Mattresses need to be updated.
Horrific experience
I said to the check in person, ‘my room number is 407. Is there no lift’ she replied ‘theres no lift.’ I said I had checked in online and she said ‘you can go straight up.’ When I got to the 4th floor it turned out I was on the wrong stairwell. I had to go back down and walk up another four flights of stairs with my suitcase. The room was filthy with garbage everywhere and the bed unmade. I had to telephone three times to get it fixed.
I liked the room size. Perfect for one individual. I was unaware that there was no elevator and I was on the 5th floor. Stairs are hard to climb and descend with luggage. Would recommend assistance or a note to allow people to know about the lack of elevators. There were ample food options in the neighborhood.
Really well priced if you’re looking for a place to sleep short term. Our bud was right up against the heater which felt like a fire risk. Didn’t like that we had to take our own trash downstairs. Other than that a really easy, convenient, place to stay!
Clean, friendly, convenient to Union Square/ Chelsea. Narrow walk up stairs
Hotel was nice, not too shabby for my needs but there were drain flies all over the bathroom the entire time and holes in the bathroom door. We were also unable to adjust the heat and were sweating all night.
Checking in a liitle awkward as information email unknowingly went to junk folder so I had to request assistance to get in the front door which was obviously irritating to desk clerk, not a good start but everything after that was fine.
We had a nice overstay visit
Like paying for prison
Screaming domestic dispute kept us up half the night. Hotel offered zero help. No elevator, dirty, no nightstands, one light. You’re paying for a prison cell. Hard pass. Avoid avoid avoid!
It was small, but comfortable and clean. The front desk staff was so sweet and anyways helpful and kind. I’d come back!
It was clean and walkable distance to everything!
Really enjoyed my stay at this hotel, thank you
Stay was pleasant! Had no issues with contactless check in. Room wasn’t the cleanest, but was satisfactory. The bedding was showing signs of wear and the shower curtain looked like it was stained. But overall, wasn’t bad. Bed was mostly comfortable.
The place was decent for the price we paid. The only complaint was the freezing room. They said they didn’t turn on the heat yet. I thought that was a bit ridiculous since it is mid November. However, we requested an extra comforter which helped us make it through the frigid night. Location was great and accessible to other parts of the city and the space was clean.
our room was a lot more small than the picture, however it was clean and cozy.
The room was small, but it was clean and the price was right. Amazing location! I would stay here again.
Great value and comfortable accommodation in a good location. Highly recommended for a fun weekend trip to NYC
Great place, small but clean and upgraded. Lots of stairs must have good knees.
The front desk lady was awesome and also the gentleman who helped with our luggage.
Great budget hotel in the city
We had plans to see a show and spend time with friends. This was great as a place to get ready, and to sleep. No frills but adequate. I'd stay again.
All perfect but the sink water doesn’t drain. Thanks
Location is perfect and rooms were quiet. Staff are friendly but not very helpful. We were sent up the wrong flight of stairs (we were the top floor with baggage). When we asked about the speak easy next door or places to go, they didn't know anything about the bar next door or things to do. This hotel really needs to move on from Covid or stop blaming covid as the reason why they don't offer any services. They don't store baggage...due to Covid(???) and they don't give discounts to the breakfast place next door, which it stated they did online. When we asked what location was closest to the hotel for baggage storage, the front desk said "they don't give recommendations - just the website. It would be helpful to know which location was closest or like...what their hours are and then we could decide if that suited us. If you're looking for a cheap place to sleep and you're fully self sufficient and don't need any help, this is a great spot!
Nice
Nice and clean. Excellent, comfy bed. Spotless bathroom.
Placed in a room with a shared bathroom when I paid for a private one. Was told I’d receive money back and it’s been 5 days with no word. I was finally told that “management would get to my email when they could”… so much for service.
Property was as described. Great location and the room had everything we needed!
Great value. Easy access. However, walls thin, so lots of noise from outside and room next door.
Extremely clean, no elevator so ask for a lower floor
Many stairs, no elevator, costly.
Huge long staircases with no elevator. Helpful employee took suitcase up four flights but no one around at check out. All remote everythng. Cramped, expensive room. Good location but next to noisy party venue. No one there at night to supervise loud party in stairwell.
The property has no elevator, and we had to walk through groups of teenagers smoking marijuana to get through to the door. They were so loud one of the other guests asked us what was going on outside. There was hair in the sink when we arrived, and the toilet did not really flush well. For the price we should have gotten a full service hotel.
Wilma at front desk very nice
I did not read carefully and did not realize it was a walk-up, e.g. no elevator, and how they do not store luggage should one arrive early or have to leave much later after check-out. The stay was otherwise great.
Lots of stairs but a bargin
Though the 4 flights of stairs made it difficult, the hotel clearly has been updated with new bathrooms and other iems. VERY small room but quite comfortable, modern and clean
It was 18 miles from airport in Manhattan. Over $100 cab ride from airport. Sent me code for door and room which I did not get and I was locked out. The place is 4 story walk up on painted wood stairs which can be slick if wet. Slept in kids bunk bed in only room on 1st floor. Very loud street noise. Would not recommend this Inn for anyone who cannot carry thier bag up 4 floors. When I spoke to staff very nice and helpful letting me use the only room on ground floor.
The steps to gain access (access codes, etc) are unnecessarily inconvinient and complicated!
Muy bien ubicado, limpio y el personal en el lobby fue muy amable y profesional! Especialmente Willma. Tomar en cuenta que no dispone de ascensor y tiene 5 pisos.
No elevator
Self check-in was amazing. The staff was great. Could use an elevator but other than that the stay was great.
Clean and conveniently-located near Union Square Park/subway. Lots of stairs to climb. Something to consider if mobility is an issue.
Very small and minimal. Really just a bed and a bath, and not much room else..
The location is excellent, the hotel is comfortable.
There is not elevator The wifi password never worked Garbage under the bed Not recomendable for family with children But if you are alone, could help u
This was not a great hotel, The Staff was excellent and helpful but the beds were Old and unbearable, The A/C Unit had Mold in it had to leave early by far the worst hotel I have ever stayed in.
Dirty
