A lovely respite!

It seems to have retained some of the peace and tranquility of its previous incarnation as a monastery. I would have spent more time just enjoying the hotel as a retreat had it not been for unfortunate, but obviously necessary, construction and garden mowing in the courtyard.

The most memorable thing is the warmth of their staff!

Absolutely Wonderful! Staff is excellent, and they go the extra mile to make you feel welcomed and assist in any way they can. We stayed 4 nights (Sept 2022) in the Master Suite and found the facility to be exceptional and yet not crowded. The breakfast buffet, and restaurant are well above your normal continental breakfast, they will cook you and omelet/poach eggs for you but the other food may tempt you enough that you won’t need anything cooked to order. The spa is perfect, and they will bring you a complimentary mint tea to the spa for your refreshment! Happy hour is complimentary as well and the staff will assist in making travel arrangements and be happy to do it! Grounds are pristine and the staff on Mani, Fernando, Juan, Claudia, and others are first rate! Within a 5 min stroll of the Plaza de Armas, and just a few more minutes to the San Pedro market. We absolutely enjoyed our stay! To the owner of this property, your staff is excellent! J & K Lewis

Extraordinary service. Happy to serve breakfast in my room daily, welcome appetizers daily with bar drink, attentive to necessary outside contacts… Had stayed at the nice Marriott earlier, this was vastly superior.

Wow! This hotel is amazing, has a small amount of rooms so has a very private feel but it's still close to all the major sites and shopping. All is easily within walking distance. Breakfast is incredible, definitely take advantage of that. The people/service were also great - top-notch hotel, would highly recommend.

This is a fantastic gem of a hotel!! After hiking the IncaTrail we spoiled ourselves with few days of R&R at Casa Cartgena. I wish we had booked longer!! A couple blocks from the craziness of Plaza De Armas - our room was a relaxing retreat. The in-house massages were amazing - followed by a relaxing dip in the Jacuzzi! Finally, the breakfast was mind blowing - to be enjoyed inside or outside in the courtyard!! The breakfast assortment of eggs, pancakes, breads, fruits, cheeses, meats, deserts was a culinary dream. Would highly recommend!!

Great place to stay in Cusco

Very nice hotel and room, warm welcome, great breakfast. Unfortunately due to our schedule we were unable to have dinner or use the spa. Great location in the central area of Cusco. When we arrived it was very late, upon entering our room we did find some ants, but even at the late hour this was dealt with swiftly.

a gem in a great location

we stayed at this hotel very recently and it was a pleasant surprise. It was an old mansion that was converted into a boutique hotel in a courtyard setting with approx. 15 rooms. It also has a spa and small pool. Very nice, great location,clean, great food,and attentive staff!

Beautiful hotel - but finer details not there yet

Lovely hotel of 15 well kept, very large and modern rooms. We were a bit disappointed as although we booked some spa services days in advance - a much needed massage after the Inca trail - the therapist was not there when we arrived. The steam room had to be turned on and within the 20 mins I waited still hadn’t warmed up. The little heated pool was lovely. The treatment was cancelled in the end. English of the staff wasn’t what was expected at that standard of hotel. Smaller details such as preparing a vege breakfast to go was also lost in translation. This could be a one off as the reviews were exceptional before booking.

Overall: I would highly recommend staying at Casa de Cartagena. The service was excellent, the accommodations were wonderful and the food was excellent. We also loved the spa and the accompanying spa services. Food: Generous breakfast. We slept in the first day and the hotel staff reminded us breakfast was included and said they would even bring it to us. After tasting breakfast the next day we understood why - it was phenomenal! Room: Room was large and bed was comfortable. Fresh and modern decor and lots of space. The balcony was lovely.

WORST MANAGEMENT EVER - HORRIBLE SERVICE - AVOID !

After having traveled widely around the world, we encountered the very WORST treatment we have ever experienced at this shockingly overpriced hotel. A totally unacceptable experience. ABOMINABLE attitude. Nonexistent service. Terribly disappointing and uncomfortable small dark room with cheap substandard 'decor' and facilities, no comfort whatsoever, clear signs of overuse, non-functioning equipment, etc. Just awful. To be avoided at all costs! Do not be fooled by these crooks. You have been warned.

Superb Hotel with Amazing Staff centrally located

Amazing experience for such boutique hotel of only 16 suite rooms. Stayed here 3 nights at the end of our trip to Galapagos and Machu Picchu. Hotel excellently located minutes from all major sights. Rooms excellent with huge bathroom areas. All the staff are friendly and accommodating and cannot do enough for the guests - all with a huge smile. The spa area is small but good and well run when consider the size of the hotel. Would have no hesitation in booking to return should we holiday in Cusco again.

Wonderful stay in Cuzco

Beautiful small hotel in a very convenient location. Staff was incredibly helpful and helped us arrange a number of outings and taxis. The property is lovely and the rooms are very comfortable. The onsite restaurant is also very good and the morning breakfast buffet included with the room was superb; home made pastries and yogurt as well as made to order eggs and a variety of other goodies. Would definitely return.

Pros: - good location - nice property, although our room (5) was a bit of a dark hole - comfortable, well furnished rooms Cons: - ok value for money, but not wow - service was a little disappointing - not warm, but pretty robotic

Wonderful hotel. Great location..

The staff went out of their way to acccomdate us. We had a late afternoon flight and they re-arranged some of their reservations so we could stay in the room until later in the day.

The Best of Peru!

This place is the ultimate in relaxation and luxury! The staff was incredible and the complimentary breakfast spread was delicious! We stayed in two other hotels in Cusco and 5 hotels in Peru and this was by far the best!

Excellent hotel to enjoy Cusco

We had an extraordinary experience in the hotel, the architecture, the location, the spa, the free Pisco lessons with canapes, the atmosphere, the service... They even have extra oxigen in the rooms. It is made with an excellent taste in every detail. We traveled with 3 of our kids, they put an extra twin bed in their room without us askin for it. We had a bath after sauna and pool, went for dinner and when we came back had new set of towels, dry bathroom, closed curtains, etc. We stayed for two nights somewhere else then when to Machu Picchu and back to Cusco to Casa Cartagena. We relaxed, rested, and had a wonderfull night. I wish we had stayed here since the begining My son left some money in the safe, and Sandro took a cab to the airport to bring us the money without my son realizing he had left the money. Our included breakfast was exotic, delicious, with a variety of breads, fruits, soups, juices, eggs etc. It may not be cheap but it is worth every penny. It was a pleasure to stayed there.

Superb smaller high-end hotel

Very new and beautifully appointed, great location near other top Cusco hotels on Plaza Nazarenas. Great spa facilities too. Exceeded our expectations.

Fantastic Hotel, can not say enough good things!

We promised ourselves when we got back that we would rate this hotel and give them a raving review! We really enjoyed this hotel, very close to the square, just a few blocks away, great friendly staff, very accommodating, amazing Pisco Sours - wish we had had enough time to take the class to learn how to make them :-( and large spacious rooms with very modern decor and bathrooms. Here's what made it phenomenal for us. We booked this hotel for a few nights before our trek to Machu Picchu to acclimatize to the altitude and for one night on the night we came back from our trek. What we got when we came back from our trip was not what we expected.... We got back very late 10:30 at night or so and they had upgraded our room to the suite, had our room heated and the bags we had left when we went on our trek already in the room. They helped us order a pizza as the restaurant had just closed. But I need to describe to you this amazing suite! Imagine a suite so big it has 2 stories, with a separate bedroom and bathroom upstairs, a separate massage room upstairs, a separate king size bed and bath downstairs, a HUGE full size jacuzzi tub big enough for several people and a separate sunroom! We were speechless!!! Book this and you will not regret it!

Great hotel in Cuzco

Great hotel in Cuzco - probably the best one during our trip to Peru and Bolivia. Pros + located only a few blocks from the central square + rooms spacious and large (bathroom had a shower and a bath) + very clean + spa was great + great choice for breakfast + pick up service from the airport + friendly and helpful staff + beautiful hotel Cons - laundry service was not great (returned in one day but two shirts were permanently stained - was refunded the amount paid for the 'cleaning' of the two shirts) - towels were clean but worn on edges (not really a con, but based on the quality of everything else...) Not a cheap hotel but still good value for money.

The standard of the Monasterio Hotel, with much more peacefulness!

We have been to Peru before and experienced other hotels, so I will try as unbiased as possible. Our stay was wonderful! The hotel is located only 200m from the main plaza with all the shops and restaurants. Initially we wanted to stay at the "best" hotel, the Monasterio (which is located only a stonetrough away). Then we thought let us try the almost equally priced, new Casa Cartagena. It was worth it for the following reasons: Beautifully designed, Peruvian style combined with much Italianata furnishings by its Italian owner, in an old small estate house with just 18 rooms and suites. And its peaceful - quite a difference to the Monasterio which is equally great but a zoo with too many groups and visitors who are not even staying at the hotel! Being Swiss we were also pleasantly surprised to find an impecable, extremely attentive Swiss-Peruvian waiter who spoke even our Swiss dialect! The only negatives are the extremely overpriced "spa" services like massages and beauty parlour. All those services should be USD 30-50 and not more. But you always have a choice and can take theses services outside of the hotel. Will we be back? Absolutely! Would we go back next time?

Unser bestes Hotelerlebnis der gesamten Perureise. Schönes, geräumiges Zimmer mit guter Matratze, sehr schöner Innenhof, tägliche Gratisdrinks und Häppchen aufs Zimmer serviert und super Frühstück. Das Essen im Restaurant war auch gut. Einzig die Preise für die Kleiderwäsche fanden wir zu hoch, weshalb wir darauf verzichteten.
