The superior room is a Quiet place with awesome views for couples and if you do not mind sharing the bed with one child, the room suits you too. The staff is very nice and friendly and will handle your requests. Book a dinner table in advance; otherwise, eating in the bar is a good choice.
Great food
Clearly a very unique property, that definitely would have been in its hay day incredible. Situated amongst an amazing gold course with incredible views, set in large grounds, with swimming pool, spa and tennis court, plus a winery to boot. Sadly you can see the property exterior/gardens/maintenance slowly deteriorating. The rooms are huge, very clean, and a little dated as well. Restaurant for dinner (being a public holiday) was really good. Great staff, very friendly and definitely a must stay, see and do as there are so many activities available also.
Large comfortable rooms, great restaurant, awesome location
Stay away until they fix the water issue.
They told us that they were having water problems but we could brush our teeth and shower. Ugg, the water was brown!!! Who wants to use brown water? They also said they would provide bottled water. They gave us one!!! Dinner was fine, the property is nice but we left without showering. Didn't feel so good that day.
Comfortable stay
Beautiful spot Good food The gardens are in disrepair unfortunately which is disappointing Room was huge and very clean
The property is in a stunning location. The villas are in a run down condition with power points that don't work and when I arrived I had to fix the blinds that noone had maintained. Worse was the state of the water which was literally brown, both hot and cold and wasn't safe to drink and dried out the skin after a shower. The swimming pool was cold. When we called reception it took about 5 minutes for an answer and sometimes there was no answer in the late afternoons. The breakfasts were unaffordable.
The staff were just so friendly/ assisted with any issues/ booking changes, and was just a real pleasure to be stay there. The property is a real credit to everyone involved!
Carrington estate lodge room
Nice room with view over golf course. Had a stroll around grounds. Spacious room. Serviced daily. Clean Didn’t use restaurant, used bar menu to eat at for one evening, but not what was online available, only 2 options. Service ok.
Staff very friendly and helpful.
The grounds and proximate beaches are beautiful! The staff were excellent and there is a lovely relaxed atmosphere at the Estate. Golf course was fantastic!
Beautiful location
The property is showing signs of ageing and just needs a freshen up and revamp in places
Lovely place to stay with a great bar, restaurant and winery. Large comfortable rooms we enjoyed our stay and will go back when up that way.
Perfect location but in need of an upgrade
The resort is dated and needs a lot of maintenance. The location is amazing and the grounds are very well maintained.
Location fantastic
Fabulous setting. Gorgeous spacious rooms and the loveliest staff.. loved our stay and are already planning to go back:-)
We loved Carrington. Nice rooms. Pool is lovely. Everything is looked after well. Friendly staff. Restaurant and Bar very clean. Food was the best I have had for a long time. Well done
Stunning views, super friendly and lovely service, delicious breakfast - looking forward to going back!
Quiet, tropical feeling resort. Food in the restaurant was first class. Beautiful views. Friendly, relaxed staff. Big bedroom. Only issue was other guests walking on the deck past our bedroom window , had to keep shades down which detracts from enjoying the view.
A mecca for golfers or for those wanting an outstanding dining experience
Stunning property! The grounds were lovely and the villa was the perfect spot for an Easter getaway. Can’t wait to go back again!
OK Family Stay
We stayed at Carrington in one of the 3 bed villa's. The house itself was spacious and clean but a little tired around the edges. The AC was great ( needed as temp near 30 outside ) and views wonderful. Very self contained and as such feels quite removed from the facilities of hotel, which require's a drive to get to. We were there when very quiet so not much atmosphere and the restaurant at vineyard told us that food was unavailable 2 hrs before closing time as they had had a slow day and where closing early. We enjoyed our time there, pool is great, and less than 10 min drive to awesome beaches makes up for some of negatives.
Huge rooms, great service, close to Matai. We will be back!
Staff were okay except for the pool maintenance guy who was really rude and lacked customer service training. The pool was closed and in maintenance for 2 days that we were there. We got 3 villas. For the amount they charged a night you’d expect it will be good and spotless, but they were not. My family stayed in villa 4 which was ok but had clothes in the master’s bedroom which we think are left by previous guests. Villa 5 aircon was barely working in the lounge and the blinds was stuck and could not be adjusted which made the room really hot and uncomfortable on sunny days. Villa 2 aircon did not work at all. We reported this but staff did not do anything about it and just said they know about it but cannot do anything as aircon is old. Driving range is a dollar per ball which is too expensive. They should make it less expensive tor charged per bucket if balls to entice guests to try it. Winery and cafe was good.
Location was great with beautiful views across the golf course and out to sea. Villa we stayed in was very tired, needs updating into the 21st century. Carpet was stained, TV aerial point hanging out of the wall, some window blinds not working and outdoor deck furniture was broken with only 2 chairs for a 3 bedroom Villa. Staff were informed of the issues and overall disappointment and these were addressed with a reduction in per night cost which more appropriately reflected the property condition.
Loved the size of the villa with 2 x verandahs and internal garage. The views were spectacular, a unique accommodation. Just such a shame it was so tired and unloved and our room wasnt serviced during our 7 day stay as promised
Overall we enjoyed our stay in this beautiful location but agree with other reviewers that the resort is looking tired. We were also disappointed that the golf course had just been cored. When we booked we were told this would be happening after our stay so we specifically changed the date of our stay to avoid this. It would have been nice to be updated if they changed their plans and brought the coring date forward. The restaurant and bar opening times were also not ideal, we finished golf at 2:30 and tried to have lunch but were told the restaurant was closed even though the compendium in our room said lunch was served until 3pm. Just little things and attention to detail could make this place so much better.
great spot but starting to get run down. limited choices for dining amd golf course in particular bunkers were in terrible condition
Truly appreciate the good and service from the restaurant. Restaurant staff was truly amazing!
beautiful setting, getting slightly worn, staff not to a exclusivelocation standard
Amazing location. And fantastic pool. Would be good if the bar was open more often it seemed to be closed most of our stay
Breath taking views and good golf
Fantastic location - great golf challenge. Very friendly staff - Only downside are the opening hours of the restaurant & bar. Breakfast is from 8-10am and Dinner is 6-8pm - the bar is only open 2 evenings a week and closes at 6pm. This means you have to drive to find some food outside the estate unless you want pizza at the winery.
Resort was tired... Bar not open. Quite disappointed!
This is a wonderful getaway place for Kiwis or if like us you’ve just spent 3 weeks touring and tramping New Zealand a lovely treat before the long flight back to Europe. The villa was perfect for our family of 5, we ate in one night and at the restaurant the others. We did our own breakfasts, eggs, porridge pancakes, cereal, all easily rustled up in the fully equipped kitchen. We explored the winery, ate in the restaurant and winery, visited the beaches and used the pool. Lack of joined up thinking and provision from the staff. Villa not serviced daily (beds and emptying of bins sufficient), pool towels are to be kept for the duration of the stay rather than issued at the pool and renewed at each visit (this could have been to save the environment but see my next comment). We hung our pool towels, bath towels and bath mats up for reuse in the villa but returned to the hotel to find 4 towels left for 5 of us and none of our beach towels, hand towels or bath mats. This was an unnecessary situation easily avoided if the staff are appropriately trained and briefed. The sprinklers went on automatically which was great however not if you were having a beer on the deck before dinner as 4 unlucky guests found We ordered bread and humus for our table (of 5) but each time only 4 pieces arrived Water for our table enough in a jug for 3 after talking it through the waiter understood we needed to start with 2 jugs on the table Attention and detailed training of staff will help
Location was great, has a winery and golf coarse and a short drive to the beach
Overall a nice hotel in a beautiful setting. Our room was a little grubby. The bathroom bin hadn’t been emptied from previous use and didn’t get emptied on a daily basis. The coffee wasn’t replenished on a daily service either. For the price you pay you would expect these things to be done. The restaurant food was good but the service there a little bit hit and miss. Got our starters before our drinks then waited over an hour for our mains. All that aside I would stay again.
Freinds getaway
Fantastic stay, very relaxing. Very helpful staff. Dinner at the estate was good value. Winery tasting good and informative. A little disappointed places are closed for sight seeing in mid May. Views amazing.
ManySPIDERS & a threat to bill you if the AC fails
Spider’s, lots of them. I squished about 40 spiders before we cold go to bed and we turned the bedding around so our heads would be far away from the wall with spiders. We called the off site staffs phone number for some help with this issue. We were told that there was some bug spray in the room, but none was found. In the morning we spoke to with reception staff about the spiders and the general lack of cleanliness of the room. We were told that the room would cleaned and spider free when we returned in the evening. Upon our return there was a very strong insecticide smell in the room so we decided that it would not be safe to sleep in the room and checked out. And here is something I have never seen before in the hospitality industry, there was a sign posted above the thermostat threatening to bill you if their air conditioner failed while you were there as a paying guest.
Incredible resort. Only complaint was the fitness room equipment was out of date and in poor condition. Also needed air conditioning in that area as well.
The setting was quite magnificent. All the facilities were adequate or better. Maybe a little pricey but good and very large rooms
First class very beautiful Excellent we will return Thank you all
Majestic Tranquility
We really enjoyed our stay. The villas were wonderful and nicely laid out overlooking the golf course. The golfing was amazing. We did the wine tasting and had lunch at the winery. Excellent wine, especially the Sauvignon Blanc. We purchased several bottles of wine from the winery. Beautiful scenery and wonderful walking trails. The location is secluded and truly tranquil.
Room with a view!!
The venue was in stunning surroundings, the winery beautiful and staff very attentive to any of our difficulties and tried to clarify or rectify them. However our villa was I'm guessing one of the original ones so very tired and dated, tv not working and quite basically equipped! The food in the restaurant was poor ( not winery) and not the standard we were expecting so left disappointed!
Great property. Pool was lovely. Very quiet accommodation, stayed in a Villa with a wonderful view. Beds were comfortable. Didn't get to stay long enough!
Possibly the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in. Hotel staff very helpful, we really enjoyed our night of splurge in this beautiful part of NZ. Thank you!
Beautiful resort
Really enjoyed our stay at Carrington Resort, the expansive grounds are immaculate and the scenery is spectacular. Good restaurant, competitive prices and has great views from the dining area. The wines are excellent and the winery is only 100metres away.
Slice of heaven
Been wanting to stay at this place and extremely happy we managed to this time. Lots if things to do and so close to amazing beaches. Staff are extremely friendly and very accommodating on any of our request. Already looking at my next stay!
Villa was great. Amazing views, clean and was equipped with everything we needed. The pool is very nice (not heated though). Staff were great. Downsides were the private beach - 45 mins walk (but there are a few nice beaches a short drive down the road); billiards - unavailable; tennis - $15 for racket and balls (not a bond), golf carts - none available.
Beautiful spot with great views. Next to a private golf course. Our villa was superb, comfortable, modern and clean. Food was quite pricey but it is a high end hotel and we cooked our own meal in the villa one night.
A treat in the far north
Great location and room had everything that was needed for a pleasant stay. Evening meal in the restaurant was very good. Only negative was that breakfast didn't start until 8am and that is too late for business travelers.
Two couples on a birthday weekend get-a-way. Carrington Estate proved to be the perfect location to stop after our road trip to Cape Reinga. The staff were welcoming and friendly. Our evening meals in the restaurant were delicious. We were accommodated in the Lodge where the rooms are huge. I enjoyed time in the spa and infinity pool. We sat on the deck at sunset and again the next morning to enjoy the stunning views across the golf course and beyond. Would definitely stay again.
We had breakfast and dinner. The food was delicious, beautifully presented and reasonably priced.
A Gem of a Place
Rooms were amazing, very good size and views ranging from sea to golf course, all very pleasant. Checked out the restaurant, although we did not eat here it was very well presented and a great menu. and would be happy to have eaten here. Bar looked inviting as well.
The hotel and it’s facilities Where fantastic the food was always very nice and the staff friendly and helpful I would recommend this hotel to anyone.
Worth the long drive
This hotel is a long way from everywhere - but that is key to its success. The sense of space and calm is delightful and if you need to leave the huge outdoor heated infinity pool the local bay beaches are uncrowded and truly superb (Matai Bay). If our only criticism of the restaurant was that it was too good to eat in 3 night running, they are doing pretty well!. So have lunch in the estate’s own winery (within walking distance) on the 3rd day instead!
Best of all worlds
We love the golf, the pool, the peninsula, the staff, the villa layout and location.
Had a lovely time at Carrington. Would recommend
A fabulous place to stay. We have used this facility twice now and not disappointed. We stayed in the Lodges and other family members stayed in the villas, both are fabulous accommodation. We love the spacious room and the facilities.
Wonderful Karikari Peninsula
The resort is set in a beautiful remote location with wonderful views. We stayed in a Villa which was spacious and comfortable with good wifi and aircon. We used the pool every day and would recommend getting a golf cart for a day and touring the course and estate. The golf course looked excellent. The beaches around the peninsula are close by and also beautiful.
Lovely estate overall. Food at the restaurant was amazing. Villas were fine but quite outdated. A/C didn't work very well.
Beautiful Grounds
We were only at Carrington Estate for one night, and the weather was not ideal (windy and rainy), but nevertheless, the grounds were beautiful and the service wonderful. The room was spacious, clean, and decorated nicely. Dinner was delicious, as was breakfast. We were hoping to be able to golf, but due to high winds, we decided against it. Overall we had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Fantastic experience
Fantastic staff, service and conviviality., Masterchef cuisine!
Nice quiet hotel in the vineyard.
Nice hiking and very friendly staff. Restaurant and a Vineyard Bistro both excellent.
Luxury golf resort in a stunning, isolated setting
I strongly recommend Carrington Estate to anyone looking for great golf or simply a getaway in a beautiful, isolated setting. Our 3br villa was spacious, stylish and comfortably decorated and fully stocked. The setting really has be seen to be appreciated. Miles and miles of sugar white sand and warm seas and no one around. There is wildlife aplenty and great fishing and golf. The restaurant menu, though limited, was superb as our steak, scallops, rack of lamb, and snapper and sides were tremendous; equal to any five star dining in a large city. We especially enjoyed the locally produced wine paired with the courses and recommend a visit to the winery across the road (same owners). The tapas menu at the winery was also first rate, varied, and tasty. Be advised that you don't come here looking for "beach town excitement"--look elsewhere. The setting is isolated, quiet, and beautiful. Downside: our villa had plumbing issues and the phones didn't work, but staff was responsive. The hot tub was "down" also. If they could fix those things, i would rate this property 100%.
Nice hotel in a picturesque spot
Me and my partner stayed at this hotel. We found it to be very picturesque. We were thrilled with all of the things it has to offer. Would love to come back and stay again.
Nice place and very friendly staff. Breakfast was amazing!!
Villa With a Fireplace
Charming and beautiful. Villas have for places. Infinity pool had a hot tub. The food is excellent. The views are amazing. We went in winter so there were no golfers, just natural beauty. But it is expensive and isolated.
AWESOME PLACE TO RETREAT FROM THE WORLD
Going up Northland is generally isolated but this resort made our stay perfect. We were not able to use all the facilities since we spent only one night but we have found a place for the future for relaxation.
Short Family Get-Away
We had a wonderful family short break at Peppers Carrington in April, stopping in here after our long drive north to Cape Reinga. We loved the large infinity pool and hot tub, and the three bedroomed villa, especially the lush robes! The villa was very well appointed with full kitchen and laundry facilities and a good selection of Sky TV channels. The kids made good use of the free WiFi. Each villa had views out over the golf course which felt private and was quiet. The beds were comfortable. I happily sat on the balcony watching the birdlife and relishing the peace and quiet. All staff were very welcoming, particularly the waitressing staff. We had dinner at the restaurant, watching the sunset over the Northland Peninsula. The meal was incredible and they even accommodated our kids with a couple of choices for their main meal. We felt rested and relaxed after our stay and would love to have stayed longer. The local bays and beaches nearby are also a pretty sight. We happily swam at Matai Bay. Unfortunately we didn't get to the winery next door - but this is definitely on our list for next time!
Beautiful place
The setting is beautiful, with great views in all directions. The room was spacious and very comfortable. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Overall, a perfect stay.
Beautiful location and nice resort but you definitely pay for it. Pool was nice and in room AC was great for our summer stay. You have to book at least 24 hours in advance for the skeet shooting.
The food is excellent.
Wonderful, relaxing, great service
After a long day's drive this hotel was just what we were looking for. Large, well appointed room (and it had a bath!), with fabulous views out to the coast. Spectacular sunsets. The restaurant was great - I recommend the lemon meringue pie, staff were helpful. Exceeded our expectations
Walking to the Beach takes 40 Minuten but you have to wear propper walking shoes and take insect repellent because Beach is full of sandflies
The resort is not a luxury resort. There has been very little in the way of investment into the facilities. We stayed in Villa 2, which is a dump. The dishes and cutlery were filthy. The absentee owner has no interest in the villa. Also there are multiple legal disputes between staff and management and this is obvious from the staff’s attitude towards their employer. The resort is involved in other legal issues as well. We will NEVER return.
