Old dilapidated hotel . Dirty room . Noisy .
Poor ventilation, smelly and unhygienic rooms. Dirty toilet bathroom .
Good hotel for the price. Step up from a hostel
Fabulous staff and very helpful with any questions I had. The room was slightly larger than my twin size bed with no window. You showered with the toilet and sink (meaning there was no separate shower) which I found surprising.
Room to small for four adults and no wardrobe
The reception staff were great. Staying 10 nights with no sheet change, or floors cleaned was poor. Exterminator one day and staff knocking on the door every afternoon to empty bin and give you water seemed very odd. Rooms small. You could sit on the toilet, wash your hands in basin and shower at once it was so small. Convenient to transport and markets.
Good for the price
Stayed here as a family - 2 adults, 2 kids. A basic room room but for the price and knowing how expensive Singapore is this hotel suited us fine. A/C was great, beds comfy, shower great, room clean. Staff at the hotel helpful and friendly. Downside (not fault of the hotel) is the loud music from the bar across the road. A room not street side wouldn’t be bothered by the noise. There were a couple of things broken in the room that could be easily fixed. Overall for the money the hotel is fine and in a great location
Room was very small. No window; no closet. Shower and commode in the same space. The hotel is clean and in a safe neighborhood.
Great location. Within close proximity to multiple MRT stations, Chinatown and Hawkers Markets. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Only negative is that the mattresses felt like sleeping on wooden boards but that seems to be a common theme for Singapore hotels.
Due to my flight being delayed, it was handy to have a 24/7 reception service upon arrival. Staff where really nice and helpful. Rooms where exactly what I needed during my stay. Hotel was within walking distance to Chinatown food/shopping/train station district and Maxwell Food Centre. The downsides are the hotel's elevator was out of order due to being under maintenance and the loud music at night since the hotel is surrounded by restaurants and bars.
The room I reserved was an XL - WITH WINDOW - TWIN, described as 150 sq ft. It was actually tiny with not enough space for the luggage of 2 people. One bag had to be stored between the beds. I questioned the reception clerk and she swore that the room was the XL. Maybe they included the nonfunctional balcony. I enquired about an airport taxi for departure and the front desk personnel said you could reserve one for an extra S$8 or they could call on the day of departure and get one in a few minutes. I stressed that I needed a taxi that accepted credit card. I liquidated all my Singapore currency based on that information. On the next morning, I came down to the lobby at 0700 and requested a taxi, again stressing the need to use a credit card. The clerk on duty said the taxis only accept cash. I knew this to be incorrect from past experience - I used CC from the airport about 7 years ago and I checked Google on fares, travel times etc. I asked her check, she told me to have a seat! I waited about 12 - 15 mins and still no information - she was on the phone. At that point, I told her I had to go! I knew I could use CC on the MRT. I walked about a block down the street, hailed a taxi and asked if he could accept CC. Yes, VISA, MC, etc. I find it totally unacceptable that a hotel would put on the front desk a clerk with no clue about Singapore taxies! Note: this clerk was not one of the persons I spoke with on the preceeding day. Pros - excellent location!
Overpriced for what you get
Stayed at the family room with balcony for around 200 SGD. Beds were clean and room was big enough for one night. Good part of the hotel is basically it. Following are negative part I wish I knew before I book this hotel. 1. Luggage storage. Hotels.com shows this hotel has luggage storage but they do not have proper locked storage room. They will ask you to put your luggage at corner of the lobby space which is risky. 2. Refrigerator: my room had one but it’s very dirty with molds and didn’t work properly. I put some water and drinks in it over a night but it wasn’t cold next day. 3. Cleanliness of the room: Bathroom door was very dirty with molds and it seems they don’t even try to clean them. Also many area of the room was dirty as well. 4. Noise: my room was facing the street and noise of the clubs around lasted until midnight. With small kids, it’s really terrible. You need ear plugs if you are sensitive for noise. 5. Internet: you get a code for one person. If you plan to use multiple devices, you couldn’t. Anyway their WiFi doesn’t work at all so forget about it. Fortunately I didn’t have to rely on it so it’s ok but if you need Wi-Fi at a hotel, avoid this one. Public Wi-Fi is much faster. 6. TV: after realizing there is almost no internet. Ok. TV remote has buttons of Netflix and Amazon prime… of course it didn’t work either! in addition they only have one channel working… Overall it’s only worth 50-80 dollars considering location.
The staff were very pleasant and this property is in an excellent position to get around Singapore on public transport both MRT and buses. It is in a great spot for touring Chinatown and for dining at places ranging from outstanding hawker markets to high end restaurants. The hotel decor is kitchy and interesting but little things need fixing like hooks off curtains , shower heads that need replacement hangers and you need a spare roll of toilet paper in the room. We loved our stay here but it would have been perfect if these little repairs had been done by a general maintenance schedule. This is a great position hotel.
Overpriced
First of all, price was in USD and is definitely more expensive than other platforms. Room was upgraded to XL, but was shocking to see how small it was. I booked 'L' so I cannot imagine how pathetic it can be. Toilet condition is bad. When I try to flush, water from the handle will be leak badly. Overall is not worth the money.
Showerhead
The bathroom shower head needs to be lower & to be able to adjust to the correct position.
in room have cockroach and pillow, bed have smell musty.
Yarp yarp yarp yarp Yarp yarp yarp yarp yarp Yarp yarp yarp yarp Yarp yarp yarp yarp yarp
Staffs were helpful and mattress were firm. What we dont like the loud music even on weekdays evenings to 1am.
I didn’t like that I informed them on my first day that the tv wasn’t working. One attendant did come and try to reprogram the tv. When that didn’t work I inform them again and they said they were going to reboot the system. They must still be rebooting the system because the 3 nights passed and I checked out without a working television.
Simple, budget, short walk to Chinatown. Room is compact and clean although mattress was quite flat Can hear noise from neighbouring rooms and also processions from the nearby Hindu temple
You could reach the hotel by airport bus and a small walk. Hotel is near Maxwell food court and Buddha Tooth Relic Temple. The hotel is expensive comparing to the room quality I get. I booked 3 rooms and 2 nights each. There is no cleaning for the second day; floor is not swiped, bed is not changed. Just fill up the small drinking bottles and change the towels. I saw the room floor was very dirty at the second day which I backed at the late evening and really needed to rest so I decide not to call staff. For me, I will NEVER back to stay here!
Nice seating area. Too noisy from 10pm - 3am, room too small.
Very helpful staff and good value. Location was great for us. Local bakery nice food.
Room was very stuffy and had a very musty smell. As there’s no windows, the rooms need to be opened up more to allow some fresh air to circulate
It was great. The team arranged a table at request and the room was maintained well.
Great location! Right around the corner from Chinatown and 5 min walk to MRT. We had the Signature Queen Deluxe room which was nice, but a little loud at night, as there is a bar/nightclub just across the street on that side of the building. They turned the music down after midnight and closed shortly thereafter. This was on weeknights. Not sure if they stay open later on weekends. The room was clean. The staff was professional. There was a problem with our air conditioner one night, so they put us in a different room. It was a much smaller room with no safe and fridge, as they didn't have another of the same room available. They refunded me half the price of the original room I booked, which was more than fair.
Very friendly staff good location close to mrt and maxwell street hawker centre
This hotel smells so good as you walk in. It is really small and the rooms are tiny- all of that is stated up front. Staff is pleasant. It is at least 10 minutes walk from the train station which can be a pain with a heavy suitcase but otherwise everything else was fine
We had a fab stay at Butternut the staff couldn't have been more helpful absolutely lovely people. Yes the room is small but we knew that when we booked and felt we had value for money in Singapore
Great location, it is a few minutes walk to China Town market. The hotel looks great and the staff are helpful.
Noise disturbance.
My stay was average, as i could hear the restaurant noise from the next door cleaning few times in the morning starting from 1am until 3am in the morning
Great budget-friendly option
Great spot - well located for the interesting bits of Singapore.
Situated in central location. Staff were friendly.Facilities clean and up to date. Tea Coffee facilities in room. Rooms were so small with only hooks on the wall to hang clothes.
Nice place
The room is expectedly smaller than other hotels near more modern areas. However the price is competitive and the location is very convenient. Chinatown is within a 3 mins walk and every other popular attractions such as Garden By The Bay, MBS, Raffles Place and Clarke Quay are within easy access via the MRT
My son and I recently spent 6 days at Butternut Tree Hotel and we were very pleased with the cleanliness and the high level of Natasha's, Nana's and staff's dedication to ensure we had a wonderful stay. They were very professional, attentive and friendly. Highly recommended! Another plus, they have added a special touch in the form of wall hanging verses and little accessories, here and there, of flower pots etc.... to make one's stay very homey. The location is a walk away from Outram Park Station and about 5-10 mins to China Town. Thank you Natasha, Nana and Staff
The hotel decorations was awesome and the staffs are friendly.
I was stayed in Butternut Hotels for 2 nights, there was very clean and nice atmosphere. Staffs were kind, especially Siti who was very very helpful.
Stayed in the balcony suite. It was a large room with a comfortable bed. Great view from the balcony. Good air conditioner. Great location for couples looking at exploring. Great bars right outside the front door. Close to purple and blue MRT lines. Only set back was the sound of a reversing truck beeping nearly all day. If you are going to be out exploring and won’t need a rest during the day this won’t bother you. Even though there are lots of bars right outside the front door it was not noisy at all at night time. I highly recommend this property for location, cleanliness and comfort.
Nice clean rooms. Located close to night market and plenty of food options close by. Host were very responsive to queries.
Clean and Convenient
It was a good hotel to stay for backpackers, on vacation peeps, and for business travelers whose purpose is to sleep. It is very clean, quiet, and cozy place to stay. The staffs are very kind, accommodating, and helps you in your needs the best possible way they can.
Staff were great and very helpful!!! Will definitely come back when in town again.
Nearby MTR
Small room but nice. Friendly staff. Easy to find.
Room was small (as expected), but adequate. Staff was friendly and helpful. Convenient location. Very good value for the price.
As a solo travel the size and comfort of the room was adequate for my needs, but the staff were very helpful and pleasant. I would certainly recommend this hotel for any one staying in Singapore china town,
It was pretty normal for the price. Not much to add.
Great location but room is too tiny
Location is perfect if you want to go around singapore as nearest MRT is less than 10mins walk. A lot of interesting shops in the area. Major downside is the limited space without window but this was clearly mentioned in the room information.
Nice hotel in central Chinatown. Convenient to get to Sentosa Aquarium or Marina Bay Casino for 10 SGD each eay. Very much in the center. Top hotel next door called Burnt Ends. For the price, this is a bargain and staff is soooo cool. Suggest to bring your own pillow.
On Sunday morning I told receptionist that the TV didn’t work and asked them to look at it. Same on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday morning. On Wednesday afternoon (my 5th try) she said she had just looked at it and indeed it does not work so she will get a technician. When I checked out on Thursday.....still not fixed.
交通便利,只可惜酒店對面有酒吧同 Disco 比較嘈雜 , 另外酒店押金 (用信用卡) 點解要 14日後才可以退回 ? 時間太長了 ...
Rooms were very small with no bedside lighting. Complementary tea not refilled without request. Unfinished Cold coffee tipped in wash basin which was unwashed and coffee stained In the evening!
Good location. The aircon in my room is bit noisy and has some funky smell when turning it on. I told the receptionist that I needed a floor towel in my room and it never get delivered.
Great area, nice room but very small
Situated in Duxton, quite a hip area next to Chinatown, full of small businesses - architects, designers, artists etc. Really liked the area. Incredibly friendly staff. Room fully equipped, well air-conditioned, good wi-fi BUT very small with tiny bathroom - a wet room room housing basin, shower and loo! This was not a problem for us as we'd left our luggage at the airport. However, if we'd had our suitcases with us, it would have been difficult. For us, it turned out to be a good choice and good value.
WiFi service is hopeless and put into a room that even no mobile signal
Room is very small, barely enough for luggage. Toilet and shower is packed as well. However, its cozy and clean. Friendly staff, decent wifi and great location. The wifi is limited to one device.
Tiny, but very clean and modern room
You get what you pay for. As I am usually out for most of the day, I normally stay frugal with hotels, as it is just a place to flop and sleep for me. So my demands are a clean room, a good shower and a fast WiFi. This hotel falls into this category. You cannot expect anything extraordinary for the price. However, the staff is very friendly, the rooms are tiny (basically one bed and the same space for your luggage - that's it) but modern and clean. In total I got what I expected.
Room service is terrible.
Cozy tidy room.
A cozy, tidy room and same as the photo. The hotel staff is very nice and helpful. Close to China Town, convenience!
short holiday stay
For its value, the room is too small and has poor ventilation though with a small window. One of the plus sides is its city centre location where you can take a bus anywhere, though a few minutes walk from the nearest train stations( Chinatown, Outram park).
Convenient place but just little noisy
Just little noisy below hotel.
The lobby during first enrry was very clean, welcoming and it smelled wonderful. The receptionist was so firendly and helpful in carrying my bags up to my room. The room itself was very clean and cozy and exactly what I needed. Overall my stay was phenomenal and exactly what I needed.
I paid for several nights at this hotel stay via Expedia in advance however the hotel charged $200. USD to my credit card and told me that they would refund the $200. USD in approximately two weeks. I have never had a hotel charge my credit card $200. USD for nothing only to supposed to be refunded after two weeks. This is a new owner of this hotel so they are using my $$$ free of charge for more than two weeks.
Affordable but still missing some stuff
When I arrived at the hotel, I was greeted by the very friendly staff at the reception. However, the room was a little disappointing. It was really very small and very basic. I really think that if the hotel can really provide a little more at an affordable price, it will be a preferred choice for people traveling to Singapore. The location is excellent. Lots of great food and near to the Chinatown and the train stations.
The hotel is on a decent location. However, the hotel is not clean at all. First of all, the toilet and the entire bathroom was a total dissaster there were mud patches everywhere(I barely took a shower. Then, I have to request a room and they gave me another one but the room was in the same condition. Do not book the hotel for $80 is not worth it.
Nice hotel, friendly staffs, perfect location.
Hotel is nice, staffs are friendly and responsive. Prefect location and near to Outram Park Station. 25mins to Changi Airport and 1 station from Outram Park to Harbour Front. Good for couples and people who wanted to walk and travel with public transport at ease.
Great staff
I had a nice experience here, had some problem with the toilet and the staff was really helpful! The room is small and not perfectly clean but you get what you pay for.
Preis-Leistung gut, Einzelzimmer ohne Fenster stickig
Ci tornerei volentieri.
Good!!

The shower was in the same room as the toilet with no separation so everything got wet when you showered… but I think that is common for Singapore. Besides that, staff was great and room was very clean and modern! Would stay again.
