i have nothing to complains. It was very nice hotel, clean and all served very good and friendly.
Amazing city view to the bridge. Room is clean and spacious. The only downside maybe the bed is old so there is sound when moving but all else is super clean and give supreme exclusive experience.
This is a historic building with an excellent location and view. But the facility is outdated. The AC system is weak particularly in the hot summer days. After being in a room with a temperature of 79 degrees for a few hours, I contacted the front desk. A building maintenance guy and a manager came. Without any inspections, they told me that it was the way in the hot summer then left. I could not imagine that I had to stay in that room for one wk so I requested a room change. Finally, I was placed in a different room with a better cooling AC. The cleaning lady Ms. Peng is very pleasant and warm. She would be the only reason that I will come back to the hotel.
We love the stay in this hotel. In my opinion, it is underrated.
Great location and view of Shanghai night lights.
Good location at the end of the Bunds. River view is great if room is in the mid or right section of the building facing towards the city night lights. Staff understand some English. Walk to the Yuyang old street and Yu garden is about 20mins.
Great location. Only 1 elevator was working when I stayed, which had to be shared with apparently half of China. The staff were nice. The wifi was substandard. I was probably the only other Westerner/non-Chinese, but most staff could speak some English. It was indeed clean and the room was pretty spacious.
Overall I was very impressed with the location and friendliness of the staff. I had mentioned that I had an early morning flight leaving Thursday morning and they had organized a cab in advance to drop me off at the airport. I also mentioned that there was a mosquito in my room and they even set up mosquito repellent for me. The service was superb and I would recommend this place for anyone looking to stay in Shanghai.
Property is older and showing some wear/tear. Staff was great and helpful.
the room is pretty old (as it should be) and it is expensive. They cannot get my credit card to work which have been successfully accepted somewhere else in China for couple times. but the local is great and the people work there are very friendly. Room is old but spacious, the scale is off (though I don't care about it much.) didn't try the breakfast. what I am not very happy and I think can be easier improved are: 1. you have to have room key in order to use the restroom *in the lobby* which means after you check out, you cannot use the restroom (even though you can borrow it from the people work there) 2. there isn't much seating in the lobby.
Excellent!
Great location. Comfortable, convenient and affordable. This hotel has it all. I'll stay here again for sure.
Absolutely fantastic location and they provide an excellent breakfast. I was travelling with a friend and we had a large/very spacious twin room with a city view overlooking Suszhou Creek...... Room Facilities were excellent. There was a burn mark on the carpet but not an issue.
The staff were great, but English was a challenge at times. The location was perfect for tourists. Our room's heating system was not working and we had to move to a different room for our 2nd night
they had bed bugs thus upgrade me. long line up to check in and check out. concierge very helpful. manager was willing to work together with me. no clear signage on $ /phone call. expedia package didn't come with breakfast
Old hotel, with nice location. However, room is little old. There is a large stain on the couch.
Always a good location in Shanghai!
Superb location for this classic hotel near the Bund. The restaurant was good too! Loved our view of theBund, the river, and Pudong! Wish the staff had more English but their attitude was good and we got where we needed to every time
Great position, loads of character, not too big, good value. Second time I have stayed, just what I need in Shanghai
Check-in & Check-out staff are good manner but slow due to groups. Breakfast is average as for domestic tour group. Friendly manag
The service is great. But the food in the Chinese restaurant is obviously overcharged. It is also difficult to hail a taxi going to Yuyuan.
Overall is good, except that the carpet has some smoke burning marks which made the appearance not as good as it should be.
Great Location
The hotel is exceptionally located in Shanghai. It is close to everything i.e. i.e. Bund, yet the neighbourhood is quiet. It is safe to walk around at night. Transportation-wise it is easy to get to and from. And you can't beat if for the price.
It's the small things that make a difference
Firstly I would say this is a nice hotel and in a great location. I would give the hotel a much better rating but for the niggling small things. I was not too upset by the water leak in my bathroom (which was solved rapidly) but expected better advice from the concierge when I asked about a trip outside the city. He really should be able to help visitors and know about buses/trains. The thing than annoyed me most was that I paid for the executive floor believing that you got some benefit. When I asked if they could print my airplane tickets they said that it would cost me 10 yuan per page which seems extortionate. When I complained the staff said that if I wanted to save money I might be able to find a shop in town that would print the tickets more cheaply! Surely printing a page of text costs almost nothing and should be part of the executive package? Anyway, I would not advise booking the executive rooms as the breakfast offered in the executive lounge is worse than the standard breakfast in the restaurant and the free afternoon tea consists of a few tired looking snacks, rather disappointing, I was expecting more.
Glorious view down the Bund
The downside was breakfast wasn't included. Where are foreigners supposed to get breakfast otherwise?
Best night view for Shanghai harbour.
Although the hotel is not nearby subway station but we can conveniently catch the Taxi. It has a great view in Shanghai located in front of the ancient heritage bridge. We can also see the night view of the whole harbour from the bridge.
very disappointed
I booked a twin room for my daughters who were with me on this trip, I have stayed here before and find the location very handy. The hotel gave them a double and the very rude guy at reception insisted that a booking for a twin room was a booking for a double and the hotel had no obligation to give a twin room. The room I had was dirty, the carpet was stained in multiple places and the corridor and room smelled of smoke, daughters room on the floor above was the same. Also found locals being dealt with at reception before non locals which was very disturbing, felt like discrimination . I would not recommend this hotel and would not stay here again
nice hotel close to the bund
liked the hotel they go out of the way to please and the check in reception are/service is first class any problems are quickly corrected
Broadway Mansions was in a perfect location.
Shanghai is a beautiful city with friendly people.
Terrible Dishonest Staff but Hotel is Very Good
Unfortunately I would have to say the Staff were dishonest. I had already paid for the hotel Room upgrade, where cash was exchanged, but on the day of checking out, they claimed I never paid. They then had someone showing me video evidence of me not paying and quite conveniently 20 seconds had gone missing. So ended up paying for the upgrade twice Not happy with hotel. However the Hotel is very nice, great room and facilities. The view of the river and part of the Skyline was amazing
Upgrade to an executive room
This hotel is nice if you upgrade to the executive rooms. They care much more about their customers that are on the executive floors. Our original room was very small, with a round bed, and not very nice. We switched to an upgraded room and it was much nicer. They also have free food in the executive lounge.
Very unpolite staff
Very unpolite staff, no desire to serve, people raising there voices on the hall every single everyday...
Great Stay
Big Rooms
The hotel room was really big and it is very close to The Bund.
A very upsetting experience.
One of the best standard hotels in Shanghai
I have stayed at the Broadway Mansions several times over the pas few years and it is hard to beat. It is not a luxury hotel but it has so much to offer for the price. The breakfast is better than most and the location is superb. You can walk to just about anyplace around the Bund (Yu Gardens, Nanjing Rd E, The Bund, Restaurants) and the night views of the Bund and the Huangpu River are terrific. The price is reasonable.
Great location
Great location
Very noisy staff, bad english, long check in/out. The only good thing is the location
Found cockroach in the executive river view room!!!
Fairly good
Location is good. The building is too old and the room too.
Excellent location close to Bund and Metro
We always stay here. Starbucks is 2 blocks away. View of famous bridge is right across the street. Great little British Bar on the first floor. Takes a hour to get to Pudong airport by Metro - but you will never get stuck in a traffic jam again.
Always comfortable
Stayed here several times. High quality first rate experience
Awesome Family Trip
The hotel is just a few minutes away from the Bund. It's ideally located in downtown Shanghai for those travelers who are on budget.
Shangai
it is a nice hotel with great location.
Great price, pleasant stay
Check-in staff unhelpful with baggage. Room service excellent. Breakfast was average. Hotel itself was slightly difficult to navigate. Excellent price for executive room.
Good family trip
The hotel exceeded my expectation. I would strongly recommend this hotel to other travelers.
Amazing stay in Shanghai
Hotel is very well located at the top of the Bund and close to metro stations for sightseeing around the city. Very comfy beds and all areas of hotel clean and well maintained. Enjoyed a very relaxing stay whole in Shanghai.
Outstanding Value
A very nice, clean, friendly hotel conveniently located on the Bund for a very reasonable rate. Not located near a subway station is the only drawback.
Located on The Bund in historic area of Shanghai
I have stayed at Broadway Mansions several times in the past and have always enjoyed it. It is clean and comfortable, the staff at check-in speak very good English, and it is right across the bridge from The Bund. Some of the rooms have lovely views of The Bund and the river, which is especially lovely after dark. The Bund is safe to stroll through in the evenings, and it is also very interesting to people-watch there. There are also several restaurants in the immediate area, so you don't have to eat at the hotel, which is very expensive.
The hotel really needs renovations to be five-star.
Location is great as other reviewers said. However the hotel is not five-star, but 3-star, I would say. And there are many hotels in the area with similar great location, as well as good price in Shanghai. First the room is not clean. I had to ask to change the room due to the dirty toilet and it is the first time for me to do this in my hotel stays. The new has clean toilet, but smaller and with similar dirty carpet as the first room ( even worse than the first room), and it is a smoking room. We did not ask to move to another room because we were tired and hungry just want to settle down as soon, and did not want more hassles. Then I have to say the service is not five-star. If the hotel room does not meet the basic criteria of cleanliness, guests should not be downgraded to a smaller room. We booked and paid for a room with king size bed and non smoking room the new room only has queen size bed and is smoking room. Anyway, I wouldn't recommend the hotel to others,as it is not the only hotel in that area.
A real gem.
Excellent choice for location, ambiance, and staff. Mars, who works on the concierge team is very pleasant, helpful and efficient, and helps makes our business there run smoothly. Have stayed many, many times at the Broadway and highly recommend it.
Shanghai Trip
Old hotel, there is no way is a 5 star hotel
Great location and charming old hotel with history
We did have some concerns staying here and there are a number of posts regarding dirty and stained carpets and chairs, so our expectation was a little low. As a result, yes the carpet was a bit tired, it wasnt as bad as we expected so it wasnt an issue for us. The lobby and staff have a very old world charm, which is lovely, we were on a low level room (3), but had we been higher the view from an above level room would have been wonderful. English is pretty good at Reception, but not all can speak good english, but always willing to try and help. The location is very handy to the Bund, you take a short wander over the Waibaidu Bridge (first all-steel bridge in China) and you are at the Bund. We found the hotel and area quiet despite the proximity to the Bund. The beds are a little hard, but this is typical for China, and so not that bad. Would happily stay here again.
Would recommend!
This hotel has amazing location, and has charm (built in 1934) that you don't find in big chain hotels. If you've never been to Shanghai before, I highly recommend staying here given the proximity to the Bund, and to Nanjing Road.
I recommend this Hotel
This Hotel is very good located, in front to the Bund and many interesting places to visit I do not recommend the breakfast bufete is very expensive and it is not so good. the Staff service is average, but they do their job well
Best view of shanghai Bund ang river crossing poin
Front desk manager has good vision to understand guest thought much better than checking receptionist .. This hotel should be regarded as one of best local hotel managed by China its own ,it line up with tHe Shanghai Jingjian Hotel (the old building)
Excellent hotel, great location
Excellent except the toilet plugged up. Very clean and roomy. Comfortable bed. Staff very friendly and helpful. Excellent location.
Leisure trip
Great location, close to everything, good food, very convenient
Short and Awesome Business Trip
This hotel is located at great area, the bund. And this hotel is classic, old and luxurious. Great nigth life at walking distance. I would definite recommend it to my friend.
Disappointing stay for a so-called 5-star hotel
Broadway Mansions is located well and is in a pleasant part of Shanghai. Our executive room had an outstanding view of the Bund and the Financial District. Unparalleled to none so far that we have stayed in, in Shanghai. That's probably about all the positives we can give. THe general service in the hotel was very poor- starting from front desk to the executive lounge. The executive lounge needs a total rehaul. The breakfast restaurant was not clean with very sticky floors. The staff had dirty uniforms and looked quite shabby and generally quite disrespectful to guests. My commendations go to the very active and helpful bellhops that were attentive at every sign of our pitching up at the entrance of the hotel. Our executive room was of a good size but the services were nearly not as good as 4-star executive rooms in other hotels. I agree with what others say that this hotel does not deserve the star status it has. At best it would be a three star in my view. Had we not booked a non-refundable rate, I would have not hesitated to change my booking in good time!
Had to wait for 10 minutes at 2:15 in order to check in. Then had to wait 15 minutes more outside in the hall when I got up to the room for maid-service to finish preparing the room. The first credit card (Mastercard) I tried they were not able to take. Despite these things, a pretty good place to stay, if you don't mind the smell of stale cigar/cigarette smoke.
Old fashioned but clean and comfortable
Well located at one end of the Bund. Great views of the Bund and Pudong but quiet. Easy walk to two metro lines. Interesting British Bar for drinks and snacks but breakfast was expensive and did not taste as good as it looked. Staff very helpful
Amazing view of the Bund
Great price, great location and great service. The rooms were very comfortable and clean, much better than expected. I have no complaints. The only advice I would give the management is to tone down the cologne scent in the lobby. It's too strong and deters the purpose of a good scent. Try a different scent that is softer
Great location
The staff was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet had lots of variety (western and eastern styles).
Classic Shanghai
Just got back from China and this place is great. My second time staying there. It is not a modern, western hotel and that's part of its charm. The rooms are wonderful. Very clean, large, with modern amenities. Breakfast is excellent with great views. And the "British Bar" is a great place for a drink - outstanding service and friendly servers. Location is outstanding. Great value - this place is priced wonderfully.
Good price good location good hotel
Served a good purpose and the English bar was a great late night snack place
Best location. Close to the bund
The hotel very good, but the staff need to speak English!!!
Excellent Hotel
Me and my colleague stayed in this hotel for 3 nights. Executive river-view room. Indeed, very nice view out of the room window, and very convenient location. Breakfast is magnificent, many different choices. Hotel staff are kind and helpful.
art deco in great location
located at end of bund short walk over a bridge this historic gem is good value Shanghai accommodation
Art Deco monster -
I first stayed in thjis hotel forty years ago at the end of the Cultural Revolution. This was before it was 'modernised' - a pity all the old furniture and panelling was ripped out as it would have been a stunning attraction if this had remained in place. The hotel is very convenient and in an exciting position. For this reason would recommend it still.
Broadway Mansions Hotel Shanghai.
Excellent hotel overlooking the Bund. Recommend a high up river view room to obtain the best view of the area. Staff were efficient and very helpful. Coffee expensive at $13 a cup in the lounge area but coffee expensive anywhere in China. Well located and easy to obtain taxis to get around. Highly recommended.
Great place to stay
Nice Hotel
Excellent location and staff
Hotel is a little bit old and not close to subway station. The others cannot be complaint.
Facilities: Modern; Value: Low-priced; Service: Go the extra mile; Cleanliness: Pristine;
Graduation trip
Great experience. Would stay there again Great location , super comfortable beds
Good location
Great place for price, less expensive city view rooms have no view - blocked by a wall that is 2 feet away from the window. Chinese customer oriented, good breakfast, around the corner good and inexpensive convenient stores.
Comfort with a Touch of History
My second stay, the first about five years ago. It is even better today. Clean, good food, great staff, located at the end of the historic Bund, which has recently undergone extensive renovation. Also not an overly demanding walk to the Yu Gardens. Three great restaurants, Chinese, Japanese and French. Built in the 1930s it housed US Army forces for a period following World War II.
Bund, Bund, Bund.
Stayed there 5 nights location is pretty good can walk and see a lot of things. Would not recommend this hotel to close friends, but would be ok if need place to stay if in a bind.
nice location and convenience
We stayed here overnight to go to dinner and shopping. Walk distance to the Bund (waterfront area in central Shanghai) and Nanjing Rd. Also walk to small commodities market (Qipu Rd) for various products. Room is a little old, but still clean with a view of the Bund ...nice! However, the foods here is slightly over priced. Anywhere, would recommend and would return.
Facilities: Old; Value: Costly; Service: Outstanding; Cleanliness: Beautiful; customer service from staff was very good
Very Nice But...
Everything was very good except that when we arrived we were initially given a double bed instead of the king (preference) or twin beds that we had paid for. Initially we spend time arguing the point with the manager until we received what we paid for. Also, whilst the location is very good, there are either good expensive restaurants or low quality poor quality restaurants in the area. Apart from this, our experience here was very good.
More like a Broadway Disaster
On our trip to SE Asia, we stayed at 10 hotels, this was by far the worst. The entire place smelled of smoke, including our room. The carpet was disguising with dirt and stains everywhere, The windows and mirrors hadn't been wiped down in years. The bed was hard as a rock. The hotel staff were very rude. The shower flooded onto the bathroom floor uncontrollably because the door didn't close properly. The view of the Bund, well you can't even see the Bund. I could go on and on, the only perk of this hotel is the quick walk to the Bund. Avoid at all costs!
Don't expect
Location only
Business trip
I stay at this hotel pretty frequently, when I am in Shanghai. Its affordability and location makes this an attractive choice.
Good Location, didn't get what I asked for
The room and hotel were fine. Dining in the hotel was very expensive. The breakfast was over $20 and not very good. The price was reasonable. I requested a non-smoking room and I got a smoking room which smelled. I asked for a single bed and got doubles.
broadway mansions
When the taxi first pulled up outside it didn't look good from the outside but once in the lobby it looked a good hotel. The bedroom and bathroom were both very nice. I liked the breakfast area with a great view of the river and the Waibaidu bridge which lights up at night.. I also loved the British bar with the snooker table. The young Chinese staff waited till I got back on a night and played snooker with me when they were not busy. Overall I was very satisfied.
Great 5 star value, Hard to find places to eat.
Great value for a 5 star hotel in Shanghai. I only paid 90 dollars a night. However, upon arrival, notified no more king beds and instead got two double beds even though it was just me traveling. The breakfast tastes very mediocre to bad for 148 yuan or w.e it is. It's on the bund so there's not much good restaurants around. A small shop next door open til 4 am is OK. If you want good food and is a traveler to Shanghai... Good luck, better ask a friend. It's on the bund so there are some really nice bars around, you can walk in the direction of the hyatt all the way down to a super classy bar / lounge. There are lots of other ones right across the bridge like bar rouge, club vueve. Overall GREAT price for its value.
Great View, Great Breakfast, Hard Mattress!
I love Broadway Mansions and have stayed here four times in the past three years. The service is outstanding. The ONLY issue is that my mattress was pretty hard this last time; I could have slept better. My room location had the view of the century, though.
Major improvement needed
Hotel is in perfect location on shanghai but the out of date interior and rude staff let the 4star hotel down. The guest relationship guys we're great but the rest seriously need some lessons in manners! We paid extra for upgrade which was fine but little things like dirty carpet, cupboard drawers not shutting and toilet getting blocked ruined it for us!
Perfect
Perfect location for the Bund and a 5 minute walk to the pedestrianised shopping street. You could not find more helpful or friendlier staff anywhere. The room was comfortable and had everything you would need. Cannot fault this hotel and staff.
location location says it all. Especially with room in the upper part of the building. Good service from all the people we came in contact with.
Great location
Pity about the dirty bath that was dirty when we arrived and didn't get cleaned during our two night stay - everything else scored really highly - couldn't have asked for more.
Room is not so clean
Room is not so clean
value for money
happy with the hotel and services provided. Great location, with easy access to amenities.
Wonderful Deco Hotel
The hotel was well above my expectations. It is in probably the best area from which to explore Shanghai. The staff were extremely attentive and friendly and the room was huge and spotless. The view out over the river was amazing. Not a single complaint.
Bad experience
My experience it was not nice, I hope you out there don't make the same mistake I made...location of this hotel it's not a good one at all.
Good location near Bund
Good location although hotel rooms were aged. Compare to other places we stayed had to pay quite a lot extra per day for WIFI in the room on fifth floor wheras other hotels of this many stars in China provide this for free at least in lobby. Friendly staff and reasonably priced rooms if you do not include WIFI cost.
Favorite hotel in Shanghai
Great hotel and location. Have stayed many times. Just wish they'd get with the times and include wi fi in their rates Great staff
Pleasant Stay
A little tricky to find on google maps, it actually appears in the bund on the map. Asides from that, good clean rooms, professional service and walking distance to the bund.
The hotel has not properly been described. The rooms are small and they allow smoking in every room hence each room smells like cigarette smoke. The hotel staff does not speak an acceptable level of English. The hotel staff charges extra for every type of request. I will never stay in this hotel again. Shame because the building is exceptional.
Fantastic position for price
Worth upgrading to a higher room which included breakfast if offered, as the views up The Bund were fantastic especially at night .Room was big ,with marble bathroom with shower and full size bath.
Great View-No Air Conditioning
The hotel is at the end of the Shanghai Bund with river view rooms that have great views down the Bund. I upgraded to the executive level and I suggest that others consider doing so. The views are better and there are additional amenities (breakfast, internet, tea time) that you must pay for in other rooms. The room was clean, but the carpet had been shampooed recently and was still damp. The air conditioner did not turn on so we asked for help. It was explained that the building had not turned on the air conditioning yet. It was May in Shanghai with temperatures regularly in the 80s. Other than that it was a good place to stay.
IT is nice to stay in this hotel
