Great stay at Betel Nut Lodge, friendly and helpful staff. Great location to stay for walkabout in Penang.
A real diamond
Clean, comfortable and a great location to explore George town. Lots of good information provided about local eateries and shops. Really friendly and helpful manager and staff.
Very Nice Hotel Staff
I am glad I picked this hotel to stay in in Penang. The location was idea as it was very close to the heritage sites and the staff could not have been nicer people.
Staff go the extra mile
Staff offered to bring complementary hot drinks with a pastry to your room. On departure I was given a small bag with a bun and carton of water. Room was clean and comfortable with soft pillows. Nice and quiet.
outstanding staff
There is abt a 5 minute walk to Komrar, wet convenient with lots of delicious coffee shops nearby for meals. what sets this lodge apart for us is the outstanding attitude of the staff, York and Soomtag ( hope I spelled it correctly). Both go out of their way to make our stay comfortable. Their almond tea at the end of the night was a bonus.
Nice heritage building, lovely staff
Betel Nut is well located just outside the main heart of old Penang, near some beautiful areas, alleyways, walkways and street art. The staff are exceptionally friendly and very helpful - the hotel is quite quiet, almost like a homestay more than a typical hotel. It would probably suit couples and travellers spending most of their time away from the hotel, rather than business travellers, just because the room is a bit small to work in (and there wasn't a desk). But one of the friendliest places I've stayed in a while.
Lovely and quaint. Great hospitality and good location. Really good food just across the lodge. Only downside is that you have to climb stairs (perhaps not so good for seniors), and the washroom is slightly small.
Excellent location near to local life
Staff and owner are very friendly and helpful. They even tell us where to have good food and places to visit. They even provide almond milk and biscuit every night and ask for the time to be sent to our room. Owner even serve us home made pastry when arrival and during the stay. Surprise token given to us on the day we checkout. Excellent service and will recommends to friends. Definitely will stay again next visit.
Outstandingly Helpful!
Our stay in this small boutique hotel was perfect for our 4 night stay in Georgetown. The location in the heritage section of the city was excellent with numerous examples of street art, restaurants and street food nearby. The owner of the hotel provided exceptional help when we were having difficulty purchasing a flight to Langkawi (as the ferries were all booked). The afternoon and evening teas and biscuits were lovely.
Stylish affordable accomodation
We arrived for our 3 night stay after midnight and were greeted on the street by a staff member who was listening out for our taxi. This was the beginning of the warm personalised service that is the hallmark of Betel Nut Lodge. Rooms are comfortable and tastefully decorated. The spacious ground floor guest dining room and lounge give a beautiful sense of the building's history and are lovely and relaxing to return to after a day out in the hustle and bustle of Georgetown. I can't recommend Betel Nut Lodge more highly. I will always stay here on future visits to Penang. If you are coming to Penang to experience Georgetown then this is absolutely the best place to stay.
A nice chance to stay in a heritage building
This is a beautifully restored heritage building, which has been converted into a lodge for travellers. We were made very welcome. We thoroughly enjoyed the almond milk and biscuits at bedtime which I'm sure contributed to the good nights sleep. The lodge is in a good location and we were given plenty of information on the different landmarks and eateries
An outstanding choice indeed!
This hotel definitely deserves its "outstanding" guest review rating. The location is very good in the historical old George Town UNESCO area. The owner is friendly and helpful with lots of good suggestions. The rooms are small but comfortable and well appointed.... everything works and super clean! Beds are also comfortable with great quality linens. You can easily walk to anywhere in the historical district from this hotel. I recommend this hotel without reservation.
Best boutique lodge in Penng -Georgetown
Best boutique lodge ever. Owner-host is always available to assist and advise on what to see, experience and where to savour the best food - street food or restaurants. If you visit penang -Georgetown, this is the place to stsy.
Beautiful lodge in a great location
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Betel Nut Lodge. It is a beautifully restored property with lovely finishes in the rooms. The owner is a foodie and has wonderful recommendations for where to eat . The food has been amazing. The staff are also friendly and helpful.
Welcoming and helpful staff
Betel Nut Lodge is an excellent guesthouse. The beds were very comfortable and the rooms clean. The staff were extremely helpful and organised laundry and taxis etc. They were also very helpful with restaurant suggestions. On arrival back to our room each evening we were offered almond milk and this was delicious! Also brought us tea and home baked buns/pastries, plus a snack lunch to take when we left Betel Nut. An excellent find! Thanks to all staff.
Great
The hotel was clean and the location was great. The staff were amazing.
Restored heritage stay
Really enjoyed our stay. We were given a welcome plate of local snacks on arrival, and the owners and staff were very friendly and helpful throughout. Our room had a ceiling fan, AC, flatscreen TV and a wet room bathroom. Great location close to shopping malls and a night market/street food vendors. It was nice to be somewhere with more local charm than a hotel chain. Be aware that as it is a restored heritage building, some noise does get through the street-facing windows when the neighbourhood wakes up.
Had a delightful stay at the Betal Nut. However, it wasn't a good as we were expecting after all the glowing reviews. The breakfast was a little small (I made the mistake on the 1st day of just ordering a single piece of toast, as I thought something else hot was coming). We had the front room, which was noisy especially during the day, although we slept fine. We also kept the shutters closed constantly due to the noise, so didn't have any natural light. Plus, it was a bit further from the main streets in the old town than we expected (we took advantage a few times of the free local loop bus, especially as it was air-conditioned, to save our feet).
Don't understand the other glowing review.
First of all I wanted to say the owner was a lovely man as many of the reviewers have mentioned ,very knowledgeable about the local area, history and food. However this does not detract from the fact our room was not fit for purpose.I had requested a quiet room ,this is very important to me,and the unfortunately the rooms on the back were all taken, the landlord however assured me that it would not be too noisy. It turned out to be a nightmare ,like having your bed on a highway. Also what was unaceptable for the price was the bathroom which was very basic, there was no shower curtain so basically everything was soaked and also the shower itself was a very basic plasticky device .We stayed in 2 hotels prior to this one in Penang and this was by far the worst.Way overpriced for the offering ,I am quite surprised by the other glowing reviews, the location itself is on a corner of a busy road, the street is not pretty like some of the others in old Georgetown and for me it would be ok if the price was half price but I actually ended paying more then the royal Penang.
Romantic Enclave
Enjoyed our 2 night stay and appreciated the excellent service which started with initial email contact and helpful directions/options right through to be available for all our needs and questions. The cozy, historical feel was unique. Location is excellent. Would certainly stay here again.
