Helpful checkin staff
Average hotel some distance from city center but convenient to train station. Room (#80) was clean and nice size. Low shelf over bathroom sink made it hard to actually use the sink. Shower was great, goor pressure and controls. Room coffee machine did not work. No iron or ironing board (useful to business travellers). I arrived tired after an overnight flight (with no sleep) at 10am, requested early check in. Unfortunately this did not happen and I had to wait to about 2:15pm (I was a disappointed).
You can’t reach the reception easily The way from outside the hotel to the reception is very inconvenient, you have to Cary your bags through a small side door and use steps , you can’t find an easy way to reception
The rooms are in a pathetic condition, not cleant properly with dust and cobwebs in the room. The housekeeping staff are also very casual and do not do the cleaning of the rooms well . For the chareges , it is not value for money.
Toiletory is poor
Nice clean place with nice room. Location not great for city center access, but not terrible either. Bus/Tram stop very close by.
The service I received was terrible the staff kept getting food and drink orders wrong, the room I stayed in I was expecting a lot better for what i paid! All the walls were covered in scratches and marks the cleaners did a rubbish job of cleaning the room everyday, they was not cleaned properly leaving rubbish etc in the rooms, the rooms need painting and refreshing I will not be staying here again
Good standard hotel which is clean and comfortable. I have stayed here before and will use the hotel again in the future
It was nothing special
Please avoid... Worse hotel...
Don't even think booking a night there... unhelpful. Sleeping under a bridge might be a better option.
Needs maintance
I booked 10 rooms for my colleagues and I with the option to pay at the hotel premises, However the hotel system did not show this in our reservations. At the end all rooms were prepaid with my credit card. I don't know if this is an error on the hotel side or hotels.com. In any case it is now a mess to settle the payments for so many people. The hotel corridors need some maintenance, the rugs have big spots on them, almost resembling someone bleeding all over and then the area being bleached. The towels had big holes in them. The people at reception were polite and apologized for the towels, however this is not the level you expect for this type of hotel. Utrecht is small and transportation is easy, so only reason to stay at Bastion is if you must for location and logistics reasons, otherwise not recommended.
Just what we required.
Great location for buses and trams or via a walk along the canal. Friendly and responsive staff. Clean and secure. On the downside, out TV didn't work. We switched remotes and discovered the problem was with the plug socket. It wasn't fixed while we were there and there was no offer of a room change. TV problem apart, I would definitely stay there again.
Staff was great. Towels smelled like not clean. Room and walls were not very clean. Tables had prior cup marks/spills not cleaned off.
Very nice staff, great location & the free parking is a huge bonus, easy access to the city (about 10 minutes on tram). Bathroom great, air-con great, fridge perfect for beer & real milk for tea & coffee, unfortunately there is no kettle, just a useless coffee machine that is horrible to use & fails to work, more than it works. Bed comfortable, room clean & tidy, plenty of hot water for the shower.
Wonderful bed. Clean and comfortable and quiet. Great breakfast too.
Overall it was fine. We didn't like the way the bed was made it looked like it was done in a hurry. The mini fridge/cooler was not working properly. A planchet in the shower would be nice we had to put our things on the floor. The bathroom was clean and comfortable though. Extra pillows were nowhere to be found in the (empty) closets. Because it was weekend the dining was limited with only a few options. The taste was ok. The breakfast on sunday was very good.
Good Hotel
A good standard comfortable hotel with good food. I have used the hotel previously and woudl happily go back next time I am the Netherlands
Location ok, comfort not
Not 100% clean Very basic Comfort was basic Tv is locked so you cant bring your own smart stick (amazon fire) Only book this hotel as its close to location i need and i try to only sleep there
Er, grim. Not sure if the electric fence and gates are a fun feature. Only one pillow on the single beds, and couldn’t get a second pillow until the second night of our stay. Corridors were dirty. Soap in the room was about the size of a Quarter... tiny. A/C in the room didn’t work.
Would not stay again
Stayed here for one night with family. The receptionist was moderately grumpy although the bar woman later much friendlier. I used the stairs and on every floor the cleaners cupboards were open with the trolleys sticking out not properly put away. The rooms were on the small side and the bathroom pokey. the beds were comforable and the room temperature fine. My biggest gripe was the smoking lounge which is situated in the lobby immediately as you walk in. the door was never closed so the downstairs smelt of cigarette smoke. I'm an ex smoker but still found it offensive, I thought we'd moved on from having to breathe second hand smoke. Also the pool table and television were in there but I didnt let my kids go in because of the smokers. We went into utrecht by tram in the evening and were up and off without breakfast in the morning so it was really just a place to put our heads down , so it served that purpose. I would not stay there again .
Staff are good, food is good, bar is good. Rooms are old, beds are worn out. Cobwebs in the room. Stayed quite a few times at this hotel over the past years, but the rooms really let this place down. Don't know quite why it has got this bad, but I wont be back.
Horrible experience
AC did not work in the middle of July with 42°, wifi did not work, no answering the phone in the front desk desk. They gave us no solution. Refuse to switch rooms, refund or even provide a fan. We slept with the window open with all street noise and sweating all night. The only positive thing was the Free parking
Clean but outdated
Great service everyone is very friendly. The Hotel is older compared to other Bastion Hotels we’ve stayed at. We booked a luxury two single beds, expecting a room which is pictured, but the rooms are very clean but just outdated. Again no complaints about service.
I booked two rooms,i checked in for the first time before 24:00 and it was ok, but the second room we came to check in at 00:30 but no reception was there ,only kitchen employee who refused to check in for me for no reason and it was very bad hospitality!
the hotel was located within a 5 minute walk from the bus and tram station so taking either modes of transportation back into Utrecht was simple. the room was small but had everything we needed for our two night stay the bathroom was very small and hard to turn around in the shower the bathroom sink was equally shallow and small and filling the water bottle had to be done by a cup. Also easy to overflow the sink when the tap was on too full. overall, the property suited our purposes for a short stay.
Room is small and bathroom very small. Heating is not working, only cold air given. Breakfast was poor but had some file fish and some old fruits.
Very satisfied
Very good value. Secure parking and polite staff. Rooms were clean and spacious.
Ideal for our stay. Parking excellent. Staff at bar and restaurant are expected to do all jobs resulting in a long wait to be served. You need a dedicated bar staff or manager and one for the restaurant.
Good value
Good hotel for the price. Approximately 2.5 km from Utrecht centre. Good public transport network servicing this area.
Very comfortable rooms at surprisingly cheap prices. Breakfast was way better than the usual hotel fare with fresh omelette options. Comfy seating in the bar too.
Didn't stay long but the hotel staff were very helpful
Stayed here many times, ideal for our visits to Utrecht. Secure parking.
Decent hotel, great staff. Easy enough to get to central Utrecht.
Lovely friendly place to stay
Good quality-price hotel
Good hotel, clean and well mantained
Superb staff and wonderful breakfast
Very nice breakfast with a reasonable price, excellent breakfast area overlooking greenery. Reception staff very helpful, friendly and has a great sense of humor ;)
Nice hotel with easy access to the city centre.
Everything about the hotel was great. It was nice that it is right by a tram stop that's a 10 minute ride right to the city centre and central train station. Or you could walk or bike along the nearby canal into the city. My only suggestion for the hotel would be to have bicycles available for rent to guests.
They never did the cleaning of the roon and the ubication is terrible, is really difficult to arrive as a pedestrian
Absolute stupid hotel policies, staff talking back to you. Simple request for help is responded with a NO. The last was the icing of the cake when I requested that the bill be put into an envelope I was told I dont have to do anything for you. This is after another time a director of the hotel had promised me that things will change with the staff. I would never again stay at a Bastion Hotel. This hotel does not live by what it writes to be its Charter.
Very friendly reception staff
We had a terrible meal in the sense that we had to wait for one hour and then when it arrived Half of the meal was missing. We asked for the extra food but took so long we gave up. Compensation we were given a desert. However after a week in Holland this was certainly the worst meal in terms of service. The food was good but the communication between the waitress and the kitchen was very poor
Bastion just outside Utrecht
11 days stay, reception was accurate but small and not very private, feels like crowded with the bar just next to the reception. Restaurant area was not very inviting. Food from the restaurant was moderate. The steak was hard and not cooked as pleased medium not well done. Housekeeping was not organized for the amenities, they forgot to supply soap, coffee and water all the time. When housekeeping was doing its job, I had to manage me a way through the hall way cause all the towels from the rooms were on the floor leaving it a very unpleasant sight. When checking out in the morning at 5.30 the receptionist could not swipe the open balance. So I have to transfer them the money afterwards.
Nice hotel, staff pleasant
Hotel and staff were pleasant. Quite a walk from the hotel to town centre but a nice walk along the canal.
Good value for money hotel.
Refurbished older hotel, has base facilities, staff friendly and helpful. Excellent value for money.
Terrible experience
Room is not clean. Hotel staff are not helpful. The night shift staff said I can have a later checkout time but when I double checked in the morning, the morning staff said that’s not possible.
Ideal Hotel
Stayed for 3 or 4 nights twice a year. About a mile from city centre. 10 mins by car or tram stop across the road.
Room is good, waiter in morning breakfast not nice, and reseptionist desk not good
Very basic
Price indication of a bare bones hotel. Nothing fancy, few light bulbs out but clean and comfortable. Served our purpose.
Easy to get to.
Great hotel with fantastic staff, nothing was a problem, even learning Dutch, will go back next year, as for the wingers, sorry no gold taps et al
Good budget option for Utrecht
Good budget option for short stay in Utrecht. Clean, functional, friendly staff, nice bar and restaurant, easy walk to town and free car parking.
Clean and Accessable Hotel
Easy access from centre to this hotel, which is on the tram and bus lines. It is walkable to the centre but will take 45 - 55 mins. Hotel doesn't sell daily travel cards for Utrect. Hotel was clean, lift access to floors. TV could have had a few more channels
Great hotel
Nice hotel with friendly staff who go out of there way for you, easy to get to with a tram stop across the road, will go back...
Don't be fooled by the room rates.
I have used Bastion Hotels a couple of times now during my visits to Holland and I really can find nothing to complain about. Hotel staff are customer focused, friendly and helpful, facilities fulfill my needs and the bed comfy. All of this for some of the cheapest room rates in Holland.
great hotel close to city center
staff are extremely friendly an helpful, room was big, clean an air conditioning was superb an needed as it was very hot while i was there.
The small details just did not add up
The first night, the fire alarm went off at 4.00am. The front desk was unhelpful and uncommunicative, leaving us standing around in pajamas for twenty minutes without really telling us if it was safe to return to our rooms, even though they knew almost immediately that it was a false alarm. Totally ruined the next day. Our room was not cleaned for the three days we were there even though a supervisor checked in to see if t had been done and promised someone would come by. The Front desk could not provide change or call a taxi for us.
Nice hotel but
Nice hotel but we found the staff to be unfriendly and had no time to attend to the guests I asked 3 times for someone to look at the light in my room but no one came! They seem to be under staffed It's a shame as it's a nice hotel
Rude and dark
The manager was rude in her email correspondence with me about a question I had about late check-in. Then the room was the darkest room we have ever had-- and we travel a lot. The lady when we checked in at night was very pleasant, but in the morning when we checked out the manager was abrupt and curt. Definitely NOT a place you want to stay!
Superb place,
One of the best hotel. Nothing to complain at all. Convenient location. six stars. :)
Like a Private Prison
Place is creepy. Lady at check in told us to move our car from empty parking lot, then said breakfast was 14 euros when it's half that. Upon leaving she accused me of not paying for a dinner when we never ate there. Sketchy regulars eveywhere, obviously one put a dinner on our room. Stay away.
Great hotel, but shower needs a new design.
The staff and overall hotel was very nice. The only thing that I didn't like was that the towel racks were very high in the bathroom and there was no rack in the shower to place soap and shampoo. There was also no where to hang your towel just outside of the shower.
Nice Hotel for the pleasant stay
It was good and better to improve the facilities and conditions
Excellent location, disappointing hotel
Location is perfect in the center of the country, right next to 3 major highways. Staff is very friendly and helpful. But: - Hotel its self seems more of a motel to me, suitable for road warriors, truckers and construction guys. - Smoking area right at the entrance. (I didn't use their restaurant as it is close to the smoking areao) - Dark hallways upstairs. - Room was clean but didn't offer a lot of comfort that I am used to. - Bathroom was very sober, almost military style. A walk-in shower area without a shower curtain or panel or without a retaining ridge. No bath tub. Towel was located on a rack where only people 5'8" or taller can reach it. Only one small bottle of shower gel, no conditioner or any other toiletries available. Overall it wasn't too bad as it served it's purpose and the staff was very friendly and location was perfect for my business matters. But I will not stay there again.
restfull stay in secure compound
overnight stay near Amsterdam before flying back home Only hotel available in the area
Clean hotel
Hotel was really nice and it's relatively easy access to Utrecht centre with a bus stop and tram stop a minute away.
Overpriced for Rather Poor Quality
The hotel is hardly advisable for business trips. Especially given the mismatch between its price (about EUR 105 per night without breakfast) - In the room I stayed in (62), there was only a small, open closet, consisting of two parts, one for hanging and one for placing clothes - The floor between those two parts had apparently not been cleaned for a longer time - there lay a toothpick, dust and hair - Cleanliness of the bathroom and bed was not satisfying either. The occasional hair and dust speck was visible - The sink is smaller than in most public lavatories. The distance between the sink and a board above it is less than 25 cm. The distance between the board and the sink's front rim is again less than 25 cm. Hence it is impossible to wash one's face without flooding the bathroom - Rest of the bathroom very small as well. No shelf of any sort in the shower to put shampoo bottles on - Bathroom has no visible or sensible heating of any sort - No heating in the room either, only an AC placed under the ceiling and next to a smoke detector. It was almost impossible to warm up lower parts of the room and the AC defaulted back to 18 degrees C after a while - Mattresses were made of unstructured foam - No rack for a suitcase, so I had to use the bed table - The reception is also a bar, including beer at the desk - Very small room - Entrance door in the circumferential fence not visible in the dark - Almost no sound protection
Average hotel if it cost less than 60
Not so good
Uni trip
Trip to drop off son going to uni in Utrecht lovely hotel staff all helpful room was great for price 15 mins away from Utrecht coffee was great clean smart room will be using again
Nice hotel and good staff close to the bus station
A ten minute bus ride to the town centre was perfect for me. Other than the room being slightly small, I was satisfied with everything. Good shower, bed was fine, nice lounge downstairs.
Short stay But convy and friendly helpful staffs
nice hotel quiet but only short tram ride to city
i did not use any facilities at hotel because i was using utrecht as a centre to travel around the netherlands and a trip to antwerp , so long days with some early starts, i found hotel staff very helpful on day of arrival pointing out that tram stop was just on other side of road and i could purchase ticket from driver, after my last stay in netherlands, in amsterdam this hotel was a nice change and if i visit netherlands again on my own or with my partner i would certainly use this hotel againt
Nice short stay
Apart from freeze in the room was not working, which was not my necessity, it was a good stay. Well connected hotel with tram, bus.
A welcome Bastion
Easy to find, handy for bus/tram. Good breakfast. Helpful staff. Secure ccar park. Good value.
Only one night. Generally all well, but no offer to take luggage to room and bacon and fried eggs at breakfast almost cold.
Bastion stay
Nice hotel ideal for getting to work
Average hotel
ok hotel. food not great. on bus/tram route to Utrecht (20 minutes).
Great budget hotel in a good location
The hotel is easy to reach by tram or bus from Central Station. We travelled with a toddler and was given an upgrade to a bigger room. It is very easy to reach the Expo Houten (€18 by taxi). There are coffee/tea making facilities in the room plus complimentary bottled water. The bathroom has a hairdryer and double sink, the floor is heated which is a big plus. We would definitely recommend this hotel to our friend
Bastion Hotel ideal location for city activities
Hotel is less than 10mjns from city centre. Nice peaceful surroundings. Staff extremely efficient & helpful. Food in restaurant very tasty & portions generous. Nice comfy armchairs in bar/lobby by the fire to read or relax - great selection of books on shelves.
Not good 👎👎👎👎👎
It's is bad service and bad hotel the room it's not clean
The security fence with barbed wire was nice.
The name says it all. Too many doors needing keys. Barbed wire on the security fence.
Quiet and comfortable
Great for a cyclist, close to Utrecht (via bike) and very secure car/cycle parking.
Just Stayed overnight en-route to Amsterdam
Good base for visiting Utrecht and surrounds
Good price and excellent location for people travelling by car. Beside bus and tram links into city and motorway (but quiet). Free, secure parking for guests.
Nice clean hotel with good food and friendly staff
The Bastion Utrecht was a great place to stay after a long drive with easy access off the highway. It was a little confusing at first in that it was necessary to enter through a security gate to get to the hotel parking but the upside was that it was very secure. The staff at the hotel were very helpful and all had a great sense of humour.
Very convenient
Right next to a direct tram service to Utrecht city centre. Free parking. Clean, above average room, friendly service. Recommended.
Convenient location relative to the trains, buses, and trams to get to city center area.
Decent place for business in the neighbourhood
Since I started using the better rooms the trip is ok. It is work, it is in the middle of nowhere (but with easy access to public transport into town for those with time on their hands). Food is OK if you do not have to eat it several days in a row. Breakfast good with choice.
Stay away
Really bad, booked because thay say have a gym and it is a joke just a running machine and a bike, extremely noisy close to the highway.
Value for money quality hotel
Usual high standard of service at a Bastion hotel. Gr8 staff, nice food and easy hotel to feel comfortable in.
Would stay again if travelling to Netherlands
Location well positioned, close to tram and bus stops, very visible at night on major junction, secure carpark, beds very comfortable and window opened but sound of traffic was soporific. Couldn't fault service. Could improve: mug in room chipped (health hazard), one small bottle of water provided for 2 guests over 2 days, no soap in bathroom, water pressure in tap very low, internet connection in lobby painfully slow, details of menus and prices not provided.
Worth a visit
I chose the hotel because of it's links to the City Tram line and a bus service which had a large number of services going to Utrecht City Centre. I believe it is also readily accessible to the road network. I have only two complaints about what was an otherwise excellent stay with fantastic staff. 1) The Electric fence is a little bit off putting. 2) Pedestrian access is awkward and it would be an idea for the door cards to activate it.
convenient, nothing special (except good beds)
Very convenient for Park and Ride into Utrecht. Perfect beds. Fridge in room. Restaurant without competition (and that is noticeable)
Solid 3 stars
Hotel was very clean and comfortable but the staff were not very helpful when asking for a late checkout. The answer was a flat out NO.
Convenient and comfortable
This was a business trip and the Hotel was conveniently located close to the client. A small hotel but clean comfortable room, good WIFI and lots of hot water and spacious showers. The staff are freindly and the bar is always welcoming. I have stayed here before and I would stay here again
convenient near centre of Utrecht
We stayed at the Bastion because of a family party. Very convenient, staff helpful
Great for public transport into city
The hotel is right beside a motorway exit and a park & ride so getting into downtown Utrecht by tram is simple. Friendly service and a good dinner menu makes it an ideal business hotel. Great wifi throughout
Delighted and satisfied during my stay.
I was very satisfied with my the staff, my room, except that the TV audio was very difficult to hear due to poor noise and low audio problems...it only reached 50 on the audio scale. There were no shower soap available , but it was OK as I brought my own due to the experience of staying in Dutch hotels in the past. The location near the tram was very helpful, though the tram operator didn't appear happy to take my money or give me a stamped ticket .Otherwise I was quite contented with my stay...will book it again in the future.
First time
First time we stayed at bastion hotel. My wife and i notice that the customer service was not good due to having stood at reception and no staff asking if we needed any help . Would book with bastion hotel again and hope the customer service is better next time.
cheap(er) in Utrecht
This hotel is directly across from the tram stop so you have easy access to the city center. This hotel is away from all of the action (between Utrecht and Nieuwegein) and that may be a good or bad thing, depending on your perspective. The front desk associates were friendly and helpful and our room was nice. Really the only downside I could think of would be their restaurant's prices, a bit high for the type of food, in my opinion. But you aren't obligated to eat there so there isn't much to complain about! I definitely recommend if you are looking for a budget hotel in Utrecht and if we find ourselves in Utrecht again we will be at the Bastion.

The room was a bit dusty and the shower drain was full of hair
