Does not disappoint.
It's been long coming, as previous patrons of the old Fortina. We took note of the changes, but still loved the hotel for what it is. It's clean, comfortable, parking is cheap, the bar is quiet and well stocked and the restaurants are top notch. In what is today a multicultural society, we were also pleased and proud to note that in the main restaursnt, the chef is Maltese and there is a healthy mix of local and foreign staff.
This was an incredible hotel and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The hotel was exceptionally clean and the staff were so helpful. Would definitely come back soon to stay.
Great service and a clean room with a fabulous view from the balcony!
Clean, comfortable, great views!
We stayed for three nights. We had a partial harbour view which was lovely. The reception staff were really friendly and helpful. The room is well equipped and comfortable. Not eco-friendly as they replaced our towels each day even though we hung them up, and only replaced the bathroom bits a couple of hours before we were checking out?? They did a lovely cake and free gift. Tora was also great for lunch with an amazing view and a walk through the labyrinth under the road to get there! Only a few minutes walk to the ferry terminal to go over to Valetta. Sleima is definately the tourist side, but has a great view and lots of restaurants. Would recommend!
The hotel is ideally situated for the marina, buses, shopping, all the staff are warm and friendly from reception, restaurant, housekeeping etc and have a nothing is too much trouble attitude. My birthday was made very special with a surprise cake and desert, and after a 3 week stay we would not hesitate in returning. Our sea view with balcony was excellent and every evening chocolates are brought to the room which is a very nice touch, and guests asked if they need anything. No faults with the hotel or service, but they could do with toilet facilities in the ground level for convenience. Not possible to name everyone, but would like to thank Goran Sachevski, Gabriella, and all the staff who we encountered with friendliness and warmth. .
Great location, within walking distance of so many great options. The room is really nice and modern. We loved the awesome fitness center. Staff is very nice and accommodating. Would stay here again for sure.
Incredible view from our 11th floor premium sea view room overlooking the harbor and Valletta. Great staff, convenient location to great restaurants, the shopping mall, and the ferry to Valletta. Enjoyed the included access to the beach club across the street which was also accessible underground. Close to the Guadalupe Boat Bar & Bistro - our favorite hang out!
I had a great stay with them. The view to Valletta as well as the ocean and the marina bay is incredible, simply gorgeous incomparably beautiful. Balcony is spacious, staffs are friendly, location is convenient with great restaurants around. I will bring my family back here for vacation soon.
A good place to stay. I took the superior room - definitely worth the money. Breakfast was amazing. Staff all very good and polite. Can’t fault anything
The reception staff were very kind and helpful. The standard room I stayed in was a generous size, the bed was very comfortable, the bathroom was a very good size too and had a bath tub as well as a shower. The amenities in the room was more than enough, the staff replenished our teas and coffees everyday including water. Only downside from our lovely experience, was the guests that were staying next door. They were very loud and kept us awake for most of the night. Playing loud music and sometimes arguing. We didn’t inform the hotel reception as it was our last night anyway. I am sure if we had mentioned to the hotel staff, they would have done something about it as they were so friendly and helpful always.
Nice modern expansive views, wonderful bedding, large spacious rooms and location. What’s not to like
We had a sea view room. I would say the view over the harbour to Valletta is definitely worth the extra. The hotel is well situated for local transport. There is an outdoor pool and bar on the waterfront which really allows you to take in the wonder of the harbour area.
Lovely hotel. All new and fresh. The rooms were of a great standard. Strongly recommend upgrading to a Premium Room. These have a very good view. Food good. Nice choices! Lovely pool area.
Our stay was overall pleasant. The hotel is in a great location on the Sliema side, with a bus stop and ferry stops conveniently nearby. The room itself was nice, and we appreciated the twice-daily room cleaning service, which was a lovely touch. However, the soundproofing could be improved, as noise from the neighboring room was disruptive at times. The food offered a variety of options, but the quality was average. Unfortunately, there were very few vegetarian options, and no lactose-free milk was available, which was disappointing. Additionally, a male supervisor in the restaurant was quite intense and intrusive, often making unnecessary comments to guests, which detracted from the dining experience. On a brighter note, Fatima from Spain, part of the restaurant staff, was exceptionally friendly and helpful, which we truly appreciated. A lovely surprise during our stay was a chocolate cake to celebrate my birthday—even though we hadn’t mentioned it. This thoughtful gesture was much appreciated. Thank you!
We had an amazing stay at this hotel!! It made our first time in Malta all the more special. We were lucky to have our room upgraded as well and the hot tub on our balcony was a treat we will remember forever! The staff were very kind and helpful and helped create a peaceful, luxurious atmosphere. 10/10 - wouldn’t change a thing!
We really enjoyed our stay at the Barcelo Fortina! So convenient to take the ferry and walk around. We did the 1/2 board and dinner and breakfast was amazing. We also had access to the state of the art gym and spa including the ice bath and hammam. Highly recommend!
On arrival at the hotel, we were oiffered a glass of prosecco at check in and then upgraded to a superior room This was a break to celebrate our ruby wedding, although I had not informed the hotel, so this came as a pleasant surprise. The room was huge with a moden decor and nice furnishings. The bathroom was spacious and well appointed, There were robes and slippers in the wardrobe for use and two balconies, one with a partial sea view and the other huge balcony with its own hot tub and furniture. The bed was probably the largest and most comfortable I have slept on. All staff were helpful, smart and polite and the breakfast buffet was again the best I have seen, with a tremendous choice of food to suit all tastes. The location was excellent, being right across the harbour from Valletta and within 100 metres of the ferry. Beautiful views of Valletta at night. The hotel is in a perfect location, being in an area with nice restaurants, bars and shops, so plenty of choice. It is also a few minutes away from Valletta with all its history and culture. We had a fantastic stay at the Barcelo and it has everything you could want from a resort hotel. Thank you for making our trip so special.
A modest but elegant hotel. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Provided great recommendations for restaurant and shopping options. Access to the lounge chairs across the street facing the water is a big bonus! Arranged for our early ride to the airport. Lots of construction noise though, but this will end and the facilities will be that much better.
Lovely hotel with great access to all the main attractions with excellent transport links
Friendly staff
Fantastic personal experience the people from the front desk were very friendly and professional. All the people to work there friendly and so nice . Rooms very nice confit bed location is nice I really enjoyed my days at the Barceló
Room was nice and clean, efficient air con, pool area unless you are under 25, have horrendous taste in music and live your life on Instagram probably not for you! Convenient for ferry to Valletta and tours!
Amazing size room with great balcony and sea view
Excellent hotel
All staff were very polite and efficient and made us welcome. Fast chech in and good information about all Hotel facilities given by reception staff. Room was fantastic and had everything we could have needed for our stay and the view of Valletta made it even better. Would definitely stay here again.
Fabulous safe location. Very friendly helpful staff. Great pool. Loved our balcony view of Valletta. Comfortable beds with lots of pillows. Would stay again.
Fantastic stay! Everyone at the hotel was amazing! Rooms are gorgeous and the location is perfect. We will definitely be back!
Very nice, clean and professionally well staffed hotel. Highly recommended
Very modern hotel with great amenities. The sea view room was amazing, had a huge terrace. Great bed. The pool is beautiful, and we had dinner at one of the restaurants on premises, also breakfast was great, tons of options for 30 EUR. One small detail - the light switches are a bit confusing, some are on a timer and turned off a few times while i was in the bathroom. There probably is a system to it but we only stayed for 2 nights and didn’t have time to look deep into it. Location of the hotel is great - 5 minutes to the Sliema ferry, and incredible views of the harbor and Valletta. Highly recommend this hotel.
Good location for ferry trips and the regular ferry to Valleta. Nice outdoor pool and sunbeds with view over the bay to Valleta. Good breakfast choices.
The hotel itself and staff were faultless, it really is an excellent hotel to stay in when visiting Sliema. My only reason for not giving 5 star across the board is the use of the pool, it wasn’t made clear that it was not for sole use of hotel guests and is actually part of a beach club called Manta. Being restricted to how long we could have a sun lounger for was a bit disappointing and once allocated a sun lounger all hotel guests were placed in a far corner away from the pool and in my opinion not treated the same as those who had paid to use the club.
Great hotel, definitely 5 stars. The view to Valletta from the ocean view room is amazing, makes a big difference. Clean, spacious bathroom, great selection at the buffet breakfast. Very friendly staff at the front desk. Pool a bit small, but if you booking morning hours, you will be able to find great sunbeds. Too busy in the afternoon. Great location. You can easily get to Valletta by ferry or local boatmen. Definitely will recommend this place.
Very good hotel, staff were extremely helpful and good facilities, the only negative is the deposit taking so long to come back into my bank account
Warm welcome upon arrival. Great nights sleep.
You have to book the pool 24 hours in advance. It's a busy pool, and you have to go via a tunnel or cross the road, you can't "swim" at all as it's so busy, due to it not being owned by the hotel, it's a rental and anyone can do a day hire. You book either morning or afternoon slot, but hotel tell you to get to the pool for 9am for a good spot. I tried to book on Sunday evening for Monday morning and was told no, it's full. Strictly no food or drink allowed in, not even water. You have to buy from them. AC is awkward, you can't lower below 19c/66f, the max speed is very low, you can barely feel it in the room, and it turns off when you leave the room, so you can't "chill" the room for later. These are all "Green" measures, great for the environment but unpleasant to get ready in or sleep in. The hotel control the dials, as I had the engineer up thinking it was faulty, he confirmed it's correct. Bathroom has a horrible smell in the evenings. Shower head not central so causes a leak at the door seal on the tiled floor. If you ask the hotel for a bucket of ice, because you want to cool some water, they try you charge you €3 for the use of bucket!!! Luckily I was let off, but I've never experienced a charge anywhere in the world for a bucket, apparently a glass of ice is free. Location is good, shopping centre is 5 minutes walk away, Ferry to Valletta is a 7 minute walk away, costs €4 return, and takes 10 minutes, last ferry at midnight. Several restaurants, bar
Overall very good, few things worth noting.
Overall our stay at the hotel was very good. Room was very spacious and staff were very attentative. Few things worth noting: - [ ] we were given a Disabled room , there wasn’t much space for our toiletries - [ ] Shower overflowed , the drainage system was noticeable poor, and we had to be careful how much water we used. Wasn’t a massive deal because there was only 2 of us - [ ] Beach club , not very relaxing - [ ] at the beach club, there were lots of locals who use the venue for day time drinking. Lively , and we didn’t mind , just bare in mind before booking. - [ ] we needed to secure our sun lounges early to get a good spot - [ ] there was 1 Power cut during our 7 days . water stopped working - but was fixed immediately - [ ] Werent able to book sun beds on 1 day as it was too busy - [ ] Weekends really busy - [ ] No water fountain in the gym - [ ] Guests are given less favourable loungers
We ate at Manta twice and it wasn‘t that good. Also the service at the pool is horrible and unfriendly. The hotel it self was good.

Great if you don't want to use the pool
A lovely hotel with one major drawback - the swimming pool area. The pool is not for sole use of the hotel, it's part of a beach club. You need to book your slot 24 hours in advance and during busy times can only book half day slots. Worse still, the beach club assign less than favourable sunbeds to the hotel guests. On the first day we went there we were placed next to the very smelly bins along with all the other hotel guests. Access to the beach club is either through a labyrith of tunnels beneath the hotel and main road or by crossing the road. It's not part of the hotel. Other than that it was great.
I’ve enjoyed the stay at this hotel. Mainly the view we had was amazing and the size of the balcony was great. Also rooms were modern, lots of space for clothes, luggages. Walking distance to the shopping center, beach. The downside was the leak of water from the shower door.
We were very happy with our stay
Had a very enjoyable stay at the hotel, service and staff were first class, breakfast was a great start to the day and we had a great view of Valetta from our 7th floor sea view room. However, the hotel has great pictures of the outdoor pool and gym in its advertising. These are not run by the hotel and close early at the weekend. They are also a long underground corridor over the road from the main hotel so not as convenient as you think. The beds at the pool also have to be booked a day in advance - though we managed to get in on the day. Just be aware of this when booking. I'd still recommend.
The location of this hotel is perfect and we would choose it again. It's a lovely property with incredible staff and impeccably clean. Our room had stunning views of Valetta, yet felt like a bit of an oasis from the busy surrounding areas. Everything is walkable. The only small point that's not as ideal is that hotel guests are treated differently at the pool as it's a private club. Otherwise, this is a perfect choice for a stay in Malta. It was the best part of our trip.
Absolutely lovely.
We had an issue with a shower overflowing but was resolved as soon as reported. Great location and wonderful views from bedroom/ balcony.
Very convenient and comfortable
Loved our deluxe balcony room. Staff were outstanding to help Breakfast buffet was excellent
Lovely hotel with very attentive staff. Rooms were cleaned during the day and then again in the evening with a nice touch of chocolates being left on the bed for us. Very Spacious room with a very large comfy bed. The Pillows aren’t great, but there are 3 to choose from. A LOT of noise comes through the doors, but the rest of the room was soundproofed well. Awkwardly positioned hairdryer with a very short cord means you need to dry your hair with your head in a cupboard. A really great stay.
Location: it’s in a convenient location and easy to get around by walking to shops, high street, supermarket and restaurants. Even meeting points for sightseeing tours/trips was perfect! Hotel facilities: Still some improvements to be made, access to the outdoor pool is somewhat a trek (however underground) and access card is needed to and from pool. Shame the indoor pool is restricted as no kids allowed, shame I missed this prior but thankfully the weather was nice so didn’t inconvenience much. Room: The room was clean and spacious, the rug could’ve done with some cleaning/shampooing but the bed was perfect and comfortable so sleep was great! Cleaning: the staff were mostly attentive and friendly when tidying however they missed replenishing towels and emptying the bins which I had to ask them to do. Bathroom: the rain shower in the ceiling appears to be a huge mistake in their planning and the handheld function only caused more water to flood the bathroom floor. Air Conditioning: this didn’t work initially and there was a problem with it as was still on heating mode and centrally controlled so uncomfortable first night but it was eventually resolved next day, but was soon heating up again so no consistency in cooling and became uncomfortable. The repetitive interference and having to phone reception was a distraction from holiday relaxation. They attempted to move me and my little one but at a cost which was unfair @ €20 but thankfully the AC was fixed.
The hotel has been recently refreshed and the rooms are large and well appointed. The bed is unusually large. Beautiful views across the bay of Valetta, but beware, the rooms in the building at the back mostly face into a courtyard with very limited views. Use the tunnel to connect to the bars, pool and deckchairs next to the water for the best views of Valetta on the island. Amazing. We had a great time but if I had to be picky: - the bar on the first floor is not cozy and faces into a metal walkway. The lighting is way too bright which ruins the ambiance and reduces the views of Valetta even more as the windows become like mirrors at night. Rather use the options next to the waterside. - Breakfast is disproportionately. Rather walk 5 minutes to one of many other coffee shops/eateries
Amazing
the breakfast was Excellent BUT COME TO DINNER WAS VERY VERY BAD Chefs there need to learn how to cook....... .I will never stay at Barceló Hotel again
Great hotel, facilities are excellent, hotel / complex is still under construction and not full, which was lucky as 2 of the lifts were not working. Regarding the rooms there we few things that did not appear to be finished particularly well such as in the bathroom the shower was in the centre of.the bath making the screen largely in effective splashing a lot.of water on the bathroom floor. The breakfast was excellent as were the staff in the bar.
My boyfriend and I stayed for 6 days at this hotel. The staff were absolutely lovely and always made sure we were comfortable and helped us with anything we needed. The room was amazing, comfortable and had everything we needed. The location of the hotel is great, lots of restaurants near by and a boat to Valletta is nearby too.
Loved the Pool, spa, comfort, location and spacious room with fantastic view. Definitely recommend.
The indoor pool area is difficult to get to and had many roof leaks at the time of our visit
❤️
Very nice hotel, good locations, services excellent 🫶highly recommended ❤️
Worth a stay
Brand new property with very friendly staff and a nice location. My only complaint was a significant and costly inconvenience when they didn't accept Amex, which is expected at international hotel chains.
Except slow WiFi speeds the hotel stay was very good.
Very welcoming
We had a beautiful, big room with a big bathroom. Plenty of space for us. Although we didn't have a sea view, we had a lovely view over Tigne Point. The staff were very welcoming on arrival and helpful throughout our stay.
New property - lot to be fixed. Staff not trained
The outdoor pool in the photos is a short walk from the hotel across a busy road and it isn't even owned by the same company. The indoor pool and spa areas do not exist as the hotel is still under construction, so it is noisy all day six days per week. My room was cleaned whilst I was asleep and although I complained to the senior manager, she didn't speak much English, so I didn't get an apology. Breakfast (£30ph) and dinner (£50ph) are very average in quality (new chefs required). Malta (Valletta) has a lot to offer but I did not enjoy staying here - big shame!
Amazing stay at Barceló! Great room, great breakfast. Thank you to the italian girl at the reception and the italian manager at the restaurant, very kind and helpful!
Personale gentile e preparato. Lo consiglio fortemente
Tutto perfetto!
Check in veloce, personale professionale e disponibile. Hotel nuovo, camere ampie, ben insonorizzate. Colazione ottima.
Sehr nettes, hilfsbereites Personal.

Also keine Haken.

great place
