A great place to chill in Costa Rica
Very nice laid back beach vibe..watch the water and listen to the waves while eating a meal. A no frills place that is kept up nicely and has an attractive appearance. Food and staff were wonderful. Rooms need softer pillows and walls are a bit thin but the layout was absolutely great and the room had a patio with a hammock chair as well as table and comfortable wooden outdoor chairs to relax in while listening to the birds and observing wildlife and the amazing colorful frogs and family of kittens. Staff were young enthusiastic and professional
Perfect place, i would have given a 10 but there was no hot water. I waited the next morning to say it, i should have said it when i arrived because they send someone right away and the problem was fixed in 5 minutes. I recommend this place.
The property was beautiful. Amazing location! The owner, Jean, was wonderful and the staff was super accommodating.
The service was great! The food was delicious. Very friendly and welcoming workers, and it felt safe to us as two female travelers. My only suggestion would be to make the front/concierge desk more accessible.
I would give this place a 4/5 only because it did not have AC… overall it is a 5/5. Beautiful room, great location. Seemless check in and check out. Breakfast was buffet style. Great place with my little fam. This place was 300 feet from the beach!
Beautiful layout
The rooms get poor WiFi service, the WiFi is free and strong everywhere else. Breakfast is good, option for eggs made to order, fruit, breads, rice and beans. Beach club food was ok, nothing great. The pool is clean and lovely, and you came beat the ocean view from the front. Walking to and from the main road was safe at night. The paths in the hotel could be better lit at night.
The hotel could have been great. The bar is adjacent and the DJ played until after 4am, keeping us up all night. It's probably a great place if you want to party all night but terrible if you need any sleep.
overrated, you can hear every other guest from your room. zero privacy. poor customer service, specially in the restaurant; they can’t take up to one hour to make a fried rise with chicken (i waited cuz I had no other option).
Very Nice place.
This is the perfect stay to enjoy a walkable vacation on a beautiful beach with options for other activities from yoga, bird watching, and of eating at some of the many restaurants nearby. The breakfast was great and the staff friendly and helpful! The only thing is you may not want to leave the hotel!
We had a very comfortable stay. Staff all very helpful and friendly. Location is amazing on the beach and 10 min walk to downtown Cahuita. Rooms large and comfortable w/very nice facilities - pool, Restraunt, gym. We even had the opportunity to watch the local FC Cahuita football match on Sunday afternoon at the field immediately adjacent the property. Highly recommend!
Excellent customer service, plenty of parking. Room#7 was very spacious , including a huge verandah and hammock! Fabulous 24 hour pool, eggs done to order station. Beautiful grounds, Black beach is literally across the street, amazing atmosphere. We loved the skylight in the bathroom. There was plenty of shelving and storage benches. The lunch we bought lacked flavor ( chicken fajitas & grilled chicken). The towels are quite thin and need to be replaced. The room was hot as there is only 1 ceiling fan, however if you sleep with the shutters open, a cool breeze will come in.
Lugar muy agradable. El personal es muy atento. Comida y desayuno ricos. Entorno bonito, justo enfrente de la playa. Recomiendo madrugar para ver las ranas que hay en el jardín. Seguro que repito...
Location is amazing, right on the beach but surrounded by the jungle. Spacious room, great facilities at the hotel, large swimming pool, excellent cocktails, and lot of variety on the menu. Only disappointment is the lack of selection at breakfast, and that it is the same every single day. Given the amount of exotic fruits that grow in Costa Rica, a more interesting selection of fresh fruits, juices and local dishes for breakfast would have been nice. The hotel is a ten minute walk from central Cahuita, where there are many restaurants, tour agencies, and the national park. Would come back without any doubt and highly recommend this hotel. Staff are all very friendly and welcoming.
The staff is efficient and friendly, costs are more than reasonable for the area, they have a beautiful beach acrross the street, fabulous pool area, the rooms are big and beds very comfortable...All of the food is top notch, plus they have their own wood fired pizza oven and an ice cream stand....food and beverage service at both pool and beach...with tables and umbrellas....This is what you think of ...when you think of Costa Rica....you are in the Rain Forest....Love this place...I have stayed at 9 hotels in the Puerto Viejo area....I only stay here now....I have stayed here at least 15 times.....Highly recommended...
Maybe in the future add little fridge in room.
Fabulous facility... great food.... especially their wood fired pizza from their own pizza oven...pool is fantastic and faculty is right across the street with its own bar and seating...close enough to enjoy the the activities and nightlife of Puerto Viejo...and yet enjoy the jungle and beach while at Atlantida .. want an excellent time on Costa Rica Caribbean Coast..... stay here.... you won’t be disappointed...
I loved the location, just across from the black sand beach. I also liked being a bit away from town but still close enough that a cab ride is under $2.
Lodge in the jungle yet on the side of the beach. Pool is quite big and the pizza is great.
Great location.
Amazing
We had an ok experience. The property was pretty and wellkept. But we ordered pizza to go that took over 40 min, no heads up of the time when ordering or while standing around the restaurant waiting. We then notice none of the chefs are wearing masks, handling everyone's food. Then the chef preparing the pizzas is clearly eating while in the kitchen, still cooking our food. During covid. Not ok
very moderate clealiness. ok for a 1-2 nights stay
The place is just ok. Located steps to the Playa Negra. Nice beach with the dark sand. But the hotel looks too laidback (from the service point of view) and not too tidy. I had a feeling that the bed linen wasn't really fresh. But still, overall the hotel ok for a short stay. The beach is very close, it is safe and the breakfast is quite good.
I love there is a lot of nature around, little exotic frogs, the beach is in front of the hotel and it is very close to the center of cahuita...
The staff were very friendly, and a lot of them were bilingual which really helped for me when struggling with Spanish. The room was lovely and clean, including the bathroom. Unfortunately there was no A/C ( my mistake when booking I didn’t check!) but the ceiling fan didn’t help with the heat and the portable fan was extremely loud ( clicking constantly not just regular fan noise). Bed were comfortable, with extra comfy pillows and it was very dark once you closed the shutters which was a bonus. The pool was nice in itself, but it appeared to be hired out? The only day I was there, there was a children’s birthday party ongoing in the pool. Obviously kids love to have fun in the water, which is great but the staff were not regulating any bad behaviour ( like getting hold of the hose filling the pool and purposely spraying uninvolved people laying on the loungers). Overall I would stay again, and I think I was just unlucky with the pool as, when I checked out the following day the pool looked a relaxing place to be!
Atlantida okay hotel, nice big pool!
Okay hotel. Rooms were not so special, pool is really good and big. Close to Cahuita town and on the beach, however the beach is not the best. Overall good price/quality ratio, but not amazing.
There is a good swimming pool, and a swimable beach across the road. Parking is free. The property is old, and even the portions updated show their age. It would be a good value at a far reduced price, but is very poor value at current prices. In addition to over priced rooms, breakfast is $11 pp, about double the coast of a big breakfast in town with fruit, bacon & eggs, rice, etc. Staff are friendly and helpful, but not always well trained.
The cabins were great, and the property is dirrectly in front of the beach. A great bar close by with a live band and local type dancing
Playa Negra. Hotel
Overall nice hotel, but more oriented toward tour groups than couples. Beautiful pool. Biggest drawback was breakfast cost an additional $11 and was nothing special. the hotel was a distance from town and other restaurants.
Our stay was amazing. There was a little mix up at check but it was straightened out quickly. It's in a great location.
Great staff, pool and location
Located about 1 km north of the National Park and town of Cahuita, this hotel was close enough to the action, but far enough to feel like a quiet getaway. Everything we needed was quickly taken care of with a smile by the staff. Big enough to actually swim in, the pool was refreshing and a great place for both families and couples to relax. Rooms had ceiling fans and a porch with a hammock, and the breakfast was tasty and plentiful.
Staff was excellent. Location is excellent. A crying baby woke us up at 12:30 at night and they did put us in a different room which was nice.
Very basic hotel
No tv in the room, no shampoo in the bathroom and no beach towels
Atlantida
Amazing
Nice hotel next to the beach
Nice hotel to getaway from the hustle and bustle of the big city. Every room doesn't have air conditioners or wifi but it gives you time to properly relax without distraction. Plenty of lovely animals on the property and the owner has two wonderful dogs guarding the property. The staff was very helpful and the beach is amazing.
Great place and experience...
...particularly if you want to avoid traditional touristy. No AC but you acclimate. On the edge of the rainforest by the ocean. Beautiful.
Rainforest feel on the beach
We enjoyed our stay here. The breakfasts were delicious and cooked to order. The location was great. It had a rainforest feel while still being on the beach. Their "gym equipment" on the beach was also very creative. The pool was also very nice. The room was a good size but it was very hot due to no air conditioning. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They even waved us goodbye as we were driving to our next destination. All in all, a fun tropical experience.
Wildlife Unlimited
What a place, perfect location for seeing the real Costa Rica wildlife, from Howling Monkeys, Iguanas, sloths, poison dart frogs and birds. Steven and Lauren really looked after my wife and I. They looked after all our needs. The Lodge was perfect, just what we wanted, in the jungle and next to the Black Sands beach. The locals were all friendly and the small town of Cahuita was only a 15 minute walk away and next to the National Park. The Lodge was well ran by Steven and all his staff. A beautiful place. Many thanks to Steven and Lauren.
Jungle Carribean hotel across from beach
Beautiful place. Highly recommended. Easy walking distance to beach, national park, downtown restaurants. Small irritations: no hair dryer, breakfast a bit skimpy.
Top hotel experience in Cahuita
The owners were especially attentionate to details and helpful beyond expectations. They made our trip unforgettable due to the impeccable service and recommendations. The place is great for couples or family's looking for both a beach and wild life adventure. There is a private outdoor workout gym, cozy pool and DJ area for WatchKit the sunset while having a 5 a7 very European by the beach. I highly recommend this hotel in Cahuita.
Great, well run place
We wanted a quiet, laid-back vacation spot...........this was perfect. The place is well kept with a friendly, helpful staff . The pool was beautiful. The dining areas were really nice and the food was very good. The menu was varied.....from Marlin to BBQ to Pizza to a special holiday dinner. Housekeeping was great and our room was always spotless. The gardens are beautiful and wildlife passes through at will. At all times, we felt safe and the lodge has good security. Situated across the road from a long black sand beach and about one kilometer from town. Tours can be booked in town with pickups at the lodge. Would definitely recommend the Pacuare river rafting trip. Cahuita is a small town with many restaurants and bars. Cahuita National Park is a must for beauty and nature.
No show
I had to cancel the reservation with the hotel and they were very sympathetic and helpful during this time. They did not charge a fee for cancelling, despite what Expedia said. I had a great experience with the staff and I highly recommend them!!
Close to beach in natural surroundings
The father and son duo who manage the hotel are very helpful and go out of the way to keep you happy. The hotel itself is 100 metres from beach in natural surroundings . The breakfast is good but not buffet and is clearly not enough and you have to ask if you want more. I request the owners to keep bread /toast in buffet style. Good pool which is clean. There are different types of frogs near the pool which the owner showed us in the night and that was the best part of the trip.
Ideal for family getaway close to National park
We had a great stay here with my boyfriend. The place is right next to the beach, the village and Cahuita national park is walking distance as well. The room is very nice comfy and clean, ideal place for a family getaway with small children. They offer breakfast and dinner but those are not included in the room price. There is a nice garden and a pool where you can cool off after a long hiking day. There was a nice concert, we enjoyed it very much. Unfortunately the internet did not work so the receptionist had a hard time to find our reservation and we were lacking internet access in our room.
Very pleasant hotel
Very pleasant bungalow style resort, close to the beach in garden like environment but the best thing about it is the staff there. Always helpful and friendly.
Tropical Cabana next to the beach.
Exactly what you should expect in the natural tropics ~ beautiful grounds, pool, bar, etc. Large spacious room and bathroom. You are truly in the tropics.
Loved this place
I loved this hotel. It's super close to the beach, the landscaping is amazing, colorful birds and frogs everywhere, and the breakfast is cooked to order. It's about a 10-15 minute walk to town. We had the deluxe room and it was large and airy, with a big fan to help keep you cool. The bathroom was also big and everyday we had new clean towels. The pizza in the restaurant was tasty too!
Atlantida Lodge is excellent for the most part
Most of the issues people might have had issues with are resolved. Pool area is great now but showers remain less than useful. Pressure and flow is very low. Rooms are quite dark but not having air conditioning was no problem when we were there in March. The owner is a friendly and helpful person and staff do their best to be helpful. The location is great although the road to town is a bit rough. Parking is excellent and the resort feels safe. It's about 50 meters from the playa Negra and restaurants are nearby. The grounds of the hotel are really well kept and exotic and tropical. We saw many monkeys and poison dart frogs on the grounds. Price is right at around $70 a night. Thanks for having us.
Great spot!
I loved my stay at Atlantida Lodge. It was in a perfect location, across from the beach and a short walk into town. The grounds were lovely and full of flowers and wildlife. And the staff were amazing, they made me feel welcome and were the icing on the cake of a very lovely place. I'll definitely be coming back!
Beautiful grounds, Friendly staff
The hotel is situated on beautiful grounds with flowers and wildlife abundant. The staff is excellent, friendly and warm, and they cater to your every need and want. Great time.
An incredible place. Not the Hilton. A slice!
Wonderful. Steve and Julian et al, wow. I'm figuring when I can return.
Hotel in a beautiful setting
This hotel staff was outstanding -- the two French Canadian cousins who managed it were wonderful. The hotel itself is set in a lush tropical garden, but the rooms are pretty basic and dark (especially when the sun goes down at 5:30). The facilities would be good for groups, since there are nice poolside amenities as well as beach access. This hotel is in Cahuita, which is a pretty rough village 4+ hours from the airport by car over narrow roads. If you're looking for something "off the beaten path" this would be great. Beaches and parks were nice, and not heavily used. The national park gives you coral reef and rainforest with animals within walking distance of the hotel.
Just to sleep.
in the pictures it looks like a nice hotel, but once you get there it is not as comfy as the pictures.
Good location, acceptable room
The location plus the hotel amenities are excellent. Room itself was average but acceptable. Nothing to complain. Also the staff are friendly. In conclusion, good value for the money but don't expect great comfort.
superb hote.l would stay again
Clean, friendly service, great pool, across street from beach. Good breakfast.short 10 walk to center town. Great for couple or family
Perfect Birder's Paradise
This is hotel was started decades ago, starting with a couple of cabins for rent in a safe fenced lot. Now there are tons of rooms and cabins available, a pool, and a restaurant. The thing is, you can't tell because the gardens and trees are so thick that you can't see any other rooms unless they are right next to you. It's like a jungle paradise with fruit and flowering trees and bushes everywhere. Jasmine trees and hibiscus flowers of all kinds, Heliconia and palms, all in bloom. We saw the stunningly colorful poison dart frogs by the road, tucans and a masked tityra front the pool, and numerous other birds throughout the trails on the property. The birdsong in the morning was delightful! And of course there is the caffeine-addicted parrot demanding coffee at the restaurant... :) They rented us bicycles so it was easy to get around town though it was easy to walk everywhere too. We were a group of 6 and there was another group of professors there on an organised trip. It was perfect for people of different interests to do different things and yet we could also all meet easily for a meal or just to talk in the many inviting outdoor places. The staff was cheerful and helpful, the manager is French Canadian so is fluent in English and French too.
gracias!
Loved it, we go there every year for a romantic get away and the staff is always do nice to us. The new management are making improvements to the facilities and we liked all the changes very much. Beaches are also amazing, people are friendly, weather is incredible, couldn't ask for more.
Friendly, family run hotel in peaceful location
Great spot to stay in chilled out Cahuita. 10 min walk to town. Friendly, relaxing family hotel set in peaceful spot next to Playa Negra. Many native animals on site, including Sloths!! Negatives: Breakfast way overpriced, and maids should pre-clean your room beforehand. Gecko droppings, ants and stained sheets not so pleasant to walk into. Still, I'd stay again !!
NOT IMPRESSED!
Room dirty and old. No hot water. Power was out for 2 hrs but that was probably not hotels fault, but not water either. Internet didn't work but at one spot. Got out of there ASAP!
Definitely Amazing
I loved virtually everything about this hidden gem, just a short walk from town and only steps from a perfect beach. Rooms were nicely decorated and spacious, as was the bathroom which had plenty of hot water. The porch was equipped with a hammock so you could sit in the company of overwhelmingly colorful flora and fauna without anyone interrupting you. Staff was friendly and helpful. Go to Riki's restaurant in town and order the whole snapper. Best fish I've eaten anywhere.
pretty awesome
good part: the surroundings were fantastic. they had a wonderful pool and while we we in the pool we were able to observe monkeys in the trees surrounding it, a closer view than we have had to date. the pool area, restaurant and all rooms were surrounded by beautiful tropical plants. the hotel is located directly across from the beach on the carribean ocean. it is also located withing walking distance to town which has many restaurants and shops. bad part: room was smaller than that of a typical motel and there was no tx.
Great lil hotel near beach
Was pleased to see how clean and pretty this hotel is. We saw monkeys in trees, so that made my day! The pool area was very nice and clean too. The only thing...you felt like you were sleeping in a large tent(we travel in a camper so felt at home). We stayed in room 14. The large windows have only screens so you heard all the wildlife outside. The howler monkeys keep me up all night. I felt like there was a monster outside my window! LOL they make very loud noises...a lil scary but I felt safe in the room. Also the loud noises from the large seeds falling on roof was a lil shocking to hear! BOOM like they were going to break thru the roof! All in all was a terrific stay and would recommend to nature lovers like me!
A great combination of beach and jungle
The facility is impressive, especially the garden. If you like to see animals in the wild, here you can experience that moving from your room to the beach. The rooms have all the necessary comfort (clean, spacious, simply but nicely furnished, bathroom in good conditions) and are wonderfully deprived of the unnecessary ones (TV, WiFi, ac). The beach is gorgeous and not crowded and the town is at walking distance (20 minutes).
Lovely stay - hope to go back soon!
I had a great (second) stay in Atlantida Lodge. The hotel is a short walk from Cahuita town, so lovely and quiet, and opposite Playa Negra beach. The rooms are clean, the grounds beautiful, the hotel staff very friendly and helpful. I can't wait to go back!
friendly fun great location
Another great stay at Atlantida...the owner Steve and manager Johanson always go out of their way to make sure your stay is going well....Great location not far out of town..very peaceful at night...right across from playa negra and close to several reggae bars on the beach...can get hot but its the south carribean no A/C ...If you cant take the heat.... get out of the kitchen.
Not much around
This location was hard to find. No TV or Air. also No Breakfast must of been free but not any more. We only stayed one night because of the area. It did have a nice pool and was clean
Great place in the jungle
The lodge is really located in a great spot. The manager is really friendly, and it's placed in a very quite location. The only problem could be that there is no air conditioning.
Great hotel a bit off the beaten path....
This hotel is awesome if you want a nice place to stay while still being surrounded by the jungle. There's a restaurant and bar on the premise and another bar/restaurant that's very close... for anything else you'll need to go to Cahuita which a couple kilometers away. It's about 5km from Cahuita National Park. The pool is awesome, the staff is great. One thing to note is that the supply of hot water seems quite limited, late at night I could take a hot shower but the rest of the day it's pretty cold... other issue is that the WiFi doesn't reach to all rooms you have to go to communal area (which is a nice spot to chill). Really though, for it's relatively remote location it exceeded my expectations, highly recommended!
Room beautifully simple. Landscaping wonderful. Pool large but in need of repair.Run by French Canadian. All staff helpful. Beach across screet
adequate
Apart from a noisy bed it did it's job. O.k.
Atlantida, Pura Vida!
Friendly staff, clean and has had upgrades since our last visit. Pool in need of repairs and the complimentary coffee sucks.
PLEASURE
WONDERFUL PLACE, GREAT STAFF,BAR WAS CLOSED
Can get hot in the room
Hotel is a little bit of a walk to town.No securityat the hotel-more like a motel, No tv, no ac, no safe, only a fan. Could hear people in the adjoining rooms. Could sit out front of the room. Nice big pool. Nice grounds. Staff were genarelly friendly and breakfast was reasonably good for $6.00. Good for the money (unpretentious).
Enjoy Costa Rica's nicest people
The hotel was excelent! I would def recomend it. Even more once you meet the staff who are really polite and helpfull.
Good service
The staff we’re very friendly. We booked a Deluxe room but it felt quite basic and water from the shower went all over the bathroom. Termites were eating the beams in the ceiling and wood was falling onto the bed. When we told them at the front desk, they didn’t hesitate in rectifying the situation and changed our room. The next room was of a much better condition and this one felt deluxe.
