Our stay was so unsatisfactory that we left after one night of our three-night stay. On my part there may have been a misunderstanding about room type, but the staff was very rude when discussing it and made no effort to help or understand. We had to carry heavy bags upstairs - no assistance was offered. When we asked for an extra blanket for a sofa bed we were told they didn’t have any extra. They later found one. The room was musty smelling and the sofa beds were sagging badly. The next day when we told them we were leaving and asked if we might get any credit, instead of talking to us nicely, the manager blamed us and was very rude and angry. There are many hotels very nearby, I’m sure some must be better. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.
This is a tough one to rate, as one hand some parts were fabulous and others not so good. I’ll start with the bad. Our room was very dated and not in a great state we had an old style safe with a lock but had no key. We asked on our first day if we could upgrade by paying some more. They took my mob number and advised they may have something tomorrow. I got a message that evening asking me to come to reception to discuss moving room. I went the next day and spoke to someone else who advised no rooms come back tomorrow again. I thought strange as I have this message asking specifically to come to discuss moving rooms. They advised no what Tatiana meant was that I could see if there was a room (which there wasn’t) which makes zero sense at all and a complete waste of time. The second run in I had with the staff was that we were out there for a friends wedding. On the day I realised we didn’t have an ironing board. We asked at reception and they advised they don’t have one. After a lot of back and forth they managed to find one. Whilst I’m appreciative, I see it as a bit deceptive. The last con is the staff again, 3 times we asked our room to be cleaned & the staff would turn over the room sign around and it hadn’t been touched. Apart from that they were okay. Positives are that we had a lovely time in Crete, the beach being so close and by the pool was amazing. Easy to get the bus or taxi into Chania. Would we stay again, maybe if the dates rooms were updated & staff improved
Best place I have ever stayed during my trips highly recommended property. every thing 5 stars not to mention the fact that it is the safest place I have ever been especially Anna the lovely lady that looked after out room. after I left the safe by mistake for 2 days and it was full of our documents and cash nothing was lost. All the best Anna wishing you all the best.
Great Pools, Beach and bars. Easy access to Chania by bus if needed.
Nice hotel but few things lets it down
Our rooms were in the new part of the hotel, which is over a quite busy road from the main hotel, restaurant and beach (there is a bridge, but only a lift on one side). The rooms are modern and the cleaning is thorough, although what one would expect for a room at this price point. The breakfast is fine, lots of choice but not amazing quality, particularly the pastries, juice and coffee, although why it's in a room by reception and the road, and not in the restaurant by the beach is beyond me. The beach is nice, and the sea is clear and calm, however this is the first time I have ever been charged to use sun beds in in the hotel I'd paid to stay in. Most of the other bars and restaurants offer free sunbeds for customers, so probably better to use theirs. We had a poor experience on check out when we were told that we hadn't paid our hotel tax (€7 per room per night), which is meant to be paid on arrival. We had paid this, and showed proof on the banking app on our phone, however this was not good enough for the receptionist who asked that I found the paper receipt at the bottom of my bag, which proved we had indeed paid the charges when checking in. A disappointing end to a good stay.
Property is very dated. Beach is horrible not walkable and too far from town. Barman made a fuss over ice. In general i would not recommend to anybody. It is barely a two star hotel.

Very welcoming. Lovely stay (3 nights). Nice breakfast. Very nice restaurants and mini market near hotel. There is a 10 euro daily charge if you want to sit on the beach chairs. We were not informed of this charge so was surprised when a gentleman walked over to us about this daily charge. You can sit at the pool near the beach and not be charged. I would recommend to friends & family.
Great adults only hotel, loads of restaurants just a short walk away. Great breakfast options at the buffet for B&B. And really easy bus links for €2 or a €15 taxi into Chania!
Didn’t enjoy the 2 twin beds in lieu of a king or queen.
solid
AMAZING staff so helpful and kind, everything was clean and well thought out. Lots of dining options nearby and the bus station (to and from chania - ab 20 min) is super convenient, 1 min walk away from hotel. Food was yummy but the restaurant for dinner could use more options. Everyone was very friendly and we had an amazing time. Beach chairs are limited and need to be paid for (keep in mind).
wonderful stay. Clean an efficient. Staff generally good but sometimes a little "short". great breakfast included. Poollovely and beach is clean, well attended by staff. Need to pay for use of lounges at beach but water is included as well as some niceties. Would definitely recommend this property
Great staff, very clean facilities, well organized
Lovely place.
Beautiful hotel within a lovely setting. Own beach and pool with bar restaurant. Very tranquil place that you could easiy come alone to and feel right at home. Breakfast much improved and the whole place uplifted. Recommended if in the area or for a week in the sun.
Very pleasant stay
Best couple vacation
We had the most wonderful vacation at the hotel. We just loved every bit of it and will be mostly happy to come again. It's actually the first time that the photos at the site are less than reality. mostly recommend to stay at the new part of the hotel - at the southern section.
The new pool area was great and the breakfast buffet had a good choice, but so many little things spoiled the stay for us. The hotel is just OK, not quite what it's billed up to be, never felt that welcome there, despite the staff being great and helpful. Had the ambiance of a conference centre and so many penny pinching decisions just left a sour note on our stay. The beds are not queen size, but 2 singles pushed together with one pillow and are not very comfy. Wifi is terrible in the hotel - had to complain a few times, as at some points of the day it's just impossible to get on and it's always dropping off, even the staff were complaining about it. Luckily the hotels and bars either side had good connections, so had to go around there. The beach is great here in Agia Marina, but please use the bar beaches either side, as they are free to use - very disappointed to be charged 10Euros a day to use the beds and umbrella for 2 people, as it is billed a private beach for use of the guests - which was our main reason for our stay there. Was a real stupid move by the hotel to do so, as they lost so much money to the neighbouring beach bars, which served better food and drink at better prices and a lot speedier too. The safe in the room is a joke, trying to charge you to use it and it will only fit in your passport and mobile phone.Just another example of the penny pinching going on. But the worst of it all was that they had a happy hour but only at the top pool area!
The greater newer part of the hotel is across the street from the Beach. So, most of the photos are from that property - the pools and Jacuzzis, and views of the Sea and mountains. On the Sea side of the property there are : Reception, Dinning and outdated "economy style" Beach area, and the original pool that also needs to be both redesigned and resurfaces to qualify for at least for "4 stars". The dinning Staff extremely unprofessional- do not recall all the names but one stands out most "Lola". Receptionist and Concierge, and Security - all one person, I would guess that they are currently undermanned. The over-all feeling - 4 star property with 3 star services.
Got an upgrade to one of the new "deluxe" apartments. Everything was in an amazing condition and we enjoyed our stay a lot.
Great location and very good service. The beach for the hotel was really good.
Good location on the beach in Agia Marina and comfortable rooms. Breakfast area ok with some outside seating. Covid 19 precautions taken seriously so safe environment.
CRETE 2020
We had a fantastic holiday. Hotel was superb. Excellent location and brilliant staff
Amazing pools and the sunbeds were the most comfortable one's I've ever used. Rooms were very modern with exceptional quality bedding and pillows. Breakfast buffet was a very high quantity with plenty of choices and exceptional survive. All of the staff were very friendly and very helpful with any requests.
We loved that there are 3 pools to choose from, our favourite was the top level pool across the road by our room. The room was incredibly clean, the beds were very comfy. Breakfast was great with a wide variety to choose from and the location was perfect - walking distance to lots of restaurants, car hire & supermarkets. 10/10!
Quiet beach vacation
Excellent location, friendly service, ok food, moderate prices
Wonderful memories.
There was simply nothing that wasn't good about this hotel. Very friendly, warm & professional staff, exceptional cleanliness - Perfect location. Thank you to all the amazing team for a brilliant holiday. Looking forward to the next visit! Could not recommend Atlantica Amalthia Beach more highly.
We had a perfect stay. The staff were freindly and helpul; i can't fault them on anything.
Could do with some kind of entertainment
Nice Hotel, Very clean and staff were lovely
Amalthia is a beautiful resort located in a privileged location in Agia Marina. Although located by the main road, the hotel is quiet with a relaxing atmosphere. I love the architecture, the staff was very friendly and helpful and our room was also quite cozy. The restaurant and bar by the pool/beach is a great place to hang out. Overall: wonderful place. I do have two minor complains: The shower was built in such way that it was impossible to avoid flooding the bathroom floor. We had to fit a towel around the glass frame to avoid this. The second one is the speed of service at the Wave restaurant. They are still very friendly but maybe there were not enough waiters the couple of times we've been there, increasing the waiting times. But in general, a fantastic place to relax. I'll definitely come back again!
Everything...the food, room, beach, staff...AAAA+++++
Very nice location
Great area, lots of things to walk to. Beach was quite rocky where we were so we walked down several blocks in order to go swimming. Resort pool was nice.. GREAT it was adults only. They offer free 15 minute massage and spa talked me into upgrading. Um, don't do it! I paid for 20 extra minutes of massage which was OK and 20 minutes of a olive oil body scrub which, I swear, was just 5 minutes long. I wish I had just done the free massage to try out the masseuse first. Also, room was VERY nice but beds were so so. They weren't the most comfortable and they were set up as 2 twin bed (with separate sheets and blankets) and nothing in the center to prevent you from falling through the middle if you tried to cuddle with your significant other. They should invest in bed connectors!!! Being a adults only resort, you'd think almost every guest would like 1 bed. strange!
The room was ok. I only had one spot to put a Luggage. I asked if there was more space and I was told no. The water kept leaking from the shower onto the floor. We were told we had to pay 10 euros to use the umbrellas and chairs even though we were guests if the hotel. Bar was overpriced for coffee and drinks 4 euros for a Fredo cappuccino and it was 2 euros at most on the main road right outside of hotel. Massage was great. Decently priced. There was no entertainment at hotel bar at night and soft music during the day.
A great location - amazing staff
This hotel is in a great location in Agia Marina just a short easy busy trip to Chaniá. The property has every thing you need for a great stay including beach access, a nice pool and a good quality breakfast to get your day started. While all of these things are important the and worth noting the absolute highlight of this property is it’s wonderful staff. Every single one of them made u feel welcome and comfortable which is a rare treat in many places I have stayed. Thank you Amalthea Staff!
Friendly staff and large room. Pool nice and right on beach. Bus stop to town and to Elafonisi and Paleochora right outside. Breakfast good but even better on days when pancakes are made fresh
Nice beach hotel!
After a long travel day, excellent place to relax. Small resort w/ very friendly & helpful staff. Our room was a 1 bedroom w/ seaview Our room also had a very nice balcony. Very well maintained beach w/ (again) very friendly, helpful, & attentive staff. Food at the beachside/poolside restaurant was good. Breakfast was very good. Fridge in the room so quite helpful to keep cool drinks in room. In fact, our room had a very small kitchenette if you wanted to cook in. Grocery store & other shopping very close. Only negative is bath tub w/ hand held shower - prefer regular shower stall.
bad
bad stay don't try it
Very professionally run hotel
We have just come back from an 8 day stay at this hotel. From the moment we arrived to the day we left we were impressed with enthusiasm the whole staff - from Reception to gardener - had towards us to make this a perfect holiday for my wife and I . We were in room 26 which is a very comfortable sea view suite with separate lounge, mini kitchen and balcony. We didn't see one mosquito in it the whole time we were there. We had b&b included. The breakfast had a good variety of food - eggs and pancakes were cooked by a chef as you waited so very fresh. The Greek night with dancers is a must every Wednesday. There were always sun loungers around the lovely pool available in the morning but I expect this will change as July approaches. Pool was nice and warm to swim in. Sea was a bit colder but refreshing Straw umbrellas and sun loungers are available on the beach for a small extra cost (includes towels and chilled water. A masseuse works on the beach to the right of the hotel - had a 30 minute back massage that was very good. Free shaded car parking was available throughout our stay. The free wifi worked well in our room. Room was kept spotless by the maid. The food in the hotel's taverna was excellent and we dined there regularly. Cocktails from the bar were delicious - would recommend the strawberry dacquiri. For dinner out, we would recommend Manolis in the Old Town just up the hill. The best value convenience store was across the road to your left as you exit the hotel.
Nice facilities with great beach
Loved everything about this hotel but the beds. I felt every spring in the thin mattresses. Everything else was great. The staff was very helpful and the food was good. Wish I had time for a massage as the services sounded very nice.
Lots of potential, but some poor management choice
We generally liked the Amalthia Beach Resort. It's a good location and a beautiful site, but some poor management decisions and a few other issues let it down. The breakfast had some very odd choices, and I've been to 35 different countries including Greece 3 times, so I've seen some variety. Breakfast was a disappointment. The handheld shower head was a poor choice as well. While that may be helpful rinsing off sand, there should've been a wall mount also. Also, paying extra for towels and beach chairs is just very poor.
Very pleasant stay
Lovely hotel on an indifferent high road. The staff are lovely but the food is more expensive than similar food in the many tavernas nearby. We found the bed far too hard. The pool area is lovely though I would have preferred cushioned loungers. We would happily go back. Many people we spoke to go back every year.
Beautiful resort right on the beach.
It was a pleasant stay. The hotel facilities were in an excellent condition, the resort was well located to explore the Chania region and right on the beach. The Agia Marina place is full of shops and restaurants but the road stretching through the town is very busy and quite dangerous to cross. Overall I would suggest it to a friend.
Nice hotel close to a sandy beach...
Excellent stay but need improvement on: 1. Wifi. 2. half board. 3. TV inside rooms.
Never stay again!!
Very small and boiling hot room, tiny bathroom.. Bad hotel staff.., smelly room we could not open a window
great sea view on beach
Good design to room which may be noisy if at front on main road.T.V.poor , aircon and fridge noisy,WiFi signal not too good.FOod at restaurant plentiful and tasty but can't be directly charged to pay one bill when leaving. Enjoyed breakfast and beach view is wonderful, hotel charging 8euros for 2 sunbeds but no beach towels available at their beach resort.
Also keine direkte Meerlage erwarten. Es gibt in diesem Teil des Hotels zwei Etagen mit mehreren Pools. Den Hauptteil des Hotels kann man über eine Brücke erreichen. Das Frühstück war ein Buffet. Hier gab es alles, was man braucht.
The whole complex was one of the best hotels I've ever stayed on location. Scenery the staff, the waiters the conciergers We're spectacular. The most comfortable vacation place I have ever stayed. The breakfasts were just unmatchamachable. They had every possible Greek food American food that you could want..spotless, not one bad smell or odor. The sea was pristine. A REAL GEM IN CHANIA...4.9 Stars
