Beautiful and wonderfully quirky

One of my favourite hotels to stay in. Very homely, the beds are incredibly comfy and the whole hotel is beautifully decorated and I love how quirky it is. Love the games/bar area and self service kitchen. The owners always friendly and accommodating. Look forward to staying again.

Everyone here is super kind, and the rooms are big, comfy, and look amazing! The design vibes are on point. If you're into table tennis or billiards, this place is a total win.

Such a good weekend away

Had an amazing stay here the place was so nice with so much to do and the staff were so lovely. Very close to all the cute little spots. Definitely will be coming back to stay again.!

Really value for money, made very welcome couldn’t recommend enough if looking for a break.

Fantastic place to stay with super hosts

Our host, Mubi, was fantastic and she couldn’t have made us feel more welcome. She showed us to our room and gave us a tour of the spa. Fantastic place to stay and beautiful rooms.

Away for work

I always look for accommodation with on site parking. This venue says it has on site parking, but IT DOES NOT. The parking is on street parking and the street is a one way street. I got the only space in the street. This costs £6 for 24 hours. Lots of emails sent from vendor before booking giving the same information. The room I was in was great, good sized ensuite, room had table with chair and wifi was good. However the radiator in the bedroom was not on, so the room was cold at night. There is tea, coffee and sugar in room but no milk. There is a full kitchen downstairs with fridges. There were lots of different venues to eat out in evening within a 10 minute walk.

What amazing facilities. The communal area had a table tennis table, table football, pool table, air hockey, electronic game, large screen TV, seating area and access to a full kitchen. So much more than a room to stay in. Everyone was friendly and I will be staying again.

This is a gem of a place. Perfect for families with fabulous communal areas. Everything you could possibly need in the room. Superb location with loads of restaurants bars shopping within walking distance

This a great hotel

Just a sort stop. One night but very well located and very spacious modern room and bathroom. H&C taps situation a bit unusual but explanation given at start. Very nice room.

Amazing find in Southsea

The hosts were really helpful and friendly. The communal area was incredible with state-of-the-art facilities including free to play sports including pool, table tennis, table football, and air hockey. Lovely spacious rooms with modern fittings and modern bathroom.

My stay was wonderful, beautiful decor excellent rooms, very comfortable bed the facilities were outstanding , the hosts were very welcoming i would throughly recommend this hotel .

Good location and very nice host. Shops for eating and drinking in close proximity. Very nice hotel with great amenities. Will definately stay again if in Portsmouth and would definitely recommend to anyone visiting the area. Great stay.

It's nice and quite place, If you book as a group can be quite enjoyable as they have game room(tennis table, pool and ….).Nice and helpful staff. But feedback of 10 out of 10 that they have on this site is to good to be true. It is more like you rent a room without any service or extras and you have to bring everything with you, the fridge in the room was faulty and for studio was too small which make it impassable to cook or do anything else in the room. Bed was almost touching cooking stove and washing machine. There is a kitchen in the property that you can use instead but what is the point to get studio than? There weren't any wardrobe to hanging clothes in this called studio and to be honest it was a room only not studio that they charge extra for. If you like a feeling of a average or budget hotel room than this isn't for you, no any services ,cleaning or even a toilet roll.so it's just a room. Cleaning when checked in was 3 out of 5,(shower and the washing tap was so dirty as well. So over all experience I would say 3 out of 5 and If I would visit another time? absolutely No. It might be the problem only for this room (room 1) as I haven't seen other rooms. But if it became busy than this room 1 would be an absolute unpleasant as it's next to entrance and game room.

Very nice studio apartment. The only problem I had was checking out, nobody was around.

Very nice stay at Ashbys

Nice location near many restaurants but pretty quiet. Easy walk to beaches. Fairly big room with comfortable bed and sofa bed. Nice common area with billiards, air hockey, foosball, and video game console. The spa area seemed nice but was a tad too pricey for family use.

A very warm welcome from host. A great location for Bars and restaurants and the sea front. A really comfortabke bedroom, bathroom in need of update. A really great communal area and the option for self catering is a great feature. THANKS

Amazing hidden gem.

Fantastic hotel!! Close to park, restaurants, cool coffee shops and bars. Hotel itself has a BYOB bar area with loads of amenities that are all free to use including pool table tennis and table football. Sky sports on a massive screen and a kitchen to keep your beer and wine chilled. We had a family room which was very spacious with a spotless ensuite bathroom. Room had tea and coffee and the lovely owners really make you feel very welcome. This boutique hotel is great for families and couples and for the money we could not fault it. We didn't have time to use the Spa but if it's anything like the rest of the hotel then I'm sure it would be special. This was our first time in Portsmouth and we wouldn't stay anywhere else if we return.

Appallingly bad bathroom

Unfortunately this was not the right fit for us. Our room was in the next building and we had to go through main hotel and into another house. The room was in the attic and the stairs were incredibly steep. I made sure I took everything I needed when left as I did not want to do the stairs again. The main problem really was the room as it was small, uncomfortable with low roof and the shower was awful. Pressure was bad and it just complete stopped running when my husband was in the shower,it was like a wet room and flooded the floor and no extractor fan .. No tea / coffee etc Maybe other rooms would be better , but we could not wait to leave.

What a find!

I only stayed for business, but what a find! It was such a nice environment; there was so much to do and see. Beautiful decoration, latest modern conveniences, clean and fresh, and a comfy bed. What more could you ask for? I will be recommending this place to anyone I know visiting Portsmouth :)

Terrific family accommodation.

We were pleasantly surprised with the standard and variety of facilities available to guests. There was a very warm welcome from the owners and the family accommodation was excellent and as described. The room was comfortable and the bathroom was very good. Little touches such as fresh coffee always available in the shared kitchen area, plus a range of activities such as table tennis, pool, air hockey, table football and card and board games, made it a great place for kids of all ages! We would definitely visit again should the need arise!

The room we had was very small - the bed took the most of it - it was not visible on the photos when we booked it. Also, it was not shown in the photos that the ceiling in the bathroom was sloping which proved to be difficult for my very tall boyfriend. Such details should be shown in the pictures to make a proper booking.

Would definitely recommend,owners very helpful close to shops restaurants and the beach all within walking distance

Welcoming, comfortable and fun!

Really enjoyed our stay at Ashbys. Steve and Mubi were warm, welcoming and helpful and the room and public spaces (lounge / games room, kitchen, bar area) were comfortable and well equipped. It was clear that a lot of thought has been given to making Ashbys a unique place to stay: welcoming, relaxing and fun. A great location too for the bars, seafront and Southsea attractions! Our bathroom window needed a blind - more for the neighbours than anything! - and the bedroom a second bedside table and lamp, but these were just minor gripes that didn't spoil our stay. We would definitely come back. Thank you.

2 nights

Great check in experience - picked up the key from next door and given a detailed tour of the wide ranging facilities. The superior doublw was a large spacious room with a super king size bed provided a very comfortable night's sleep. Great shower although the shower room needs some TLC. Excellent value for money.

My stay at Ashbys was great bed was very comfortable, hosts were easy going and friendly, easy access to shops and restaurants.

Booked the Ashby's House last minute and asked if they were able to do any special requests for my partner's birthday. They definitely delivered! The hosts Steve and Mubi are so personable, friendly and professional. The room was immaculate. They even played happy birthday and had an LED birthday sign up on our arrival in the room which was such a nice touch. The spa was amazing! And such a great idea to have it as private booking for the hour it definitely makes the experience just that much more. 10/10 on every aspect I will be recommending this place to friends and family :)

The facilities were great with a pool table, bar, air hockey table tennis. The room were clean, comfortable and well appointed. The customer service from the owners was fantastic, extremely nice, approachable, helpful and knowledgeable. Would definitely stay here again.

Excellent Stay

Absolutely amazing stay, it’s not always easy to find good accommodation within the “business budget” but this was perfect, when checking in we mentioned that we we’re staying away from home to work nightshifts and that we had booked for a quieter stay and instantly they sorted us out and made sure our rooms were in quiet parts of the hotel and that out stay was comfortable. Could not thank them enough for making our stayaway much more pleasant. We will be sure to stay again in a few weeks when we’re next working down there😁. 10/10.

Nice place, but booking down graded

We did not get the room we booked. We booked a superior family room (2 beds and sofa) and received a standard family room (one bed and sofa). Owners probably assumed the two adults booked for were a couple, but we were not. Therefore sofa bed had to be used. To be fair I did not mention during our stay, due to a very long day and a whirlwind check in and it didn’t Dawn on me until later and as we were only staying one night we put up with it. Also, the room was up a very narrow very steep flight of stairs. Slightly concerning security (codes on room doors with no other way of locking from the inside) and the main building door unlocked. The plumbing was a problem in our room as the hot / cold water were the wrong way round on the taps, hot water was very hot so could be dangerous to children. Having said all that, the owners were extremely friendly and helpful, there were great facilities in the hotel (large sitting / recreation area), the room was large, comfortable and well appointed. Good access to Southsea and beach, 30 min walk from Gunwharf Quay, parking is on the street (paid) or in public car parking.

This was a last minute booking for us, yet they fit us in, made the room up perfectly for three friends sharing one room. They even fit us into the spa last minute! The communal area was amazing, in fact the whole hotel was beautifully presented. Nothing was to much trouble from the hosts and the facilities were like nothing I’ve seen before. We will definitely be returning and would highly recommend to others!

Nice adjoining Hotels, work in progress but comfortable stay in quality bed and sheets, my only complaints are very noisy in my room which had the water pump in a room at the rear, and as usual annoying guests who think it’s perfectly acceptable to bang doors and have tv at very loud levels until very late. Hotel itself very good, hosts very nice, location by small high street and 10min walk to sea

Fabulous stay! Friendly and welcoming, in an excellent location. Parked the car day 1 and didn’t use again until we left 3 days later. Loved the games area in the evenings! High recommend!

Rooms were great, common areas were excellent fun and a real bonus. Location was great, 1min walk from great restaurants and bars, and 30min walk from outlet village with great shops and food also

Steve and Mubi were absolutely amazing!!! Such a lovely couple. They had sorted our parking, a fan for the room, just anything we needed they didn’t hesitate to provide it for us so that we were comfortable. The room was absolutely beautiful too, kitchen area was spotless and the bed was very comfy. TV included all Netflix and prime too so hugeee selection of films to watch on the sofa. You definitely get more than what you pay for id say! Lovely area too with plenty of things to do nearby and restaurants to eat at. The only thing I’d change is that I wish we had stayed longer. Couldn’t thank these guys enough!!! We will be back x

Great hidden gem

Beautiful room, very warm welcome and a short walk to the Kite Festival on the Common. Vegan restaurant around the corner, what more could we ask for. Would definitely recommend Ashby’s and hope to visit again.

We stayed 2 nights at Ashbys, the owners were very welcoming and helpful, we enjoyed the communal games area all to ourselves on the first night. Everything we needed we had in our room or in the communal area.

Great location and facilities

Lovely cosy room with a very comfortable bed . Great facilities on site . The owners are both very friendly hospitable and helpful .The location is ideal, a stones throw from the beach and trendy bars and restaurants. Will definitely book again !

A little quirky - in a nice way - but we had a really good stay; arrival was fine and we were made to feel welcome. So convenient for everything and probably more suited to a longer stay than just our overnight. Would go back again without any hesitation.

Very welcoming and helpful, facilities great. Disappointing that the hot tub was chargeable at £25 per person for 1 hours use,, heat and steam also £25 person.. so for the two of us it would of been £100 😵‍💫. Would rather have paid a bit extra for the room and had use of them for free,,

A lovely stay at a unique hotel. The owner was lovely and really accomodating, the fact that we had cooking facilities in the room and more downstairs made staying with a toddler easy. The extras such as the games room just made the stay really. There is also a childrens hunt around the hotel which our daughter enjoyed. A lovely stay and we will definately be back.

Great stay at Ashbys

Steve was a fantastic host & the rooms were extremely comfortable and full of everything you could possibly need for a night or two away. The property is in a great location for walks on the promenade or exploring the great cafes & restaurants in the area. The Farm Kitchen was a brilliant recommendation for breakfast.

Overall happy

The hotel is of a good standard. My bed was uncomfortable as it was a sofa bed but the king size one in the room was great. The host was very obliging and changed it immediately. Loads of parking nearby and not too expensive in the car park at rear of property. Overall happy and would stay again 👍

Amazing property highly recommend

Steve and Mubi were excellent welcoming hosts. The location was great and very walkable to much of Portsmouth and South Sea.

The property offered good facilities if you were in a group. A lift would have been a bonus when travelling with a baby and heavy luggage.

I took my partner on his surprise birthday to Ashby's! It was absolutely memorable! We loved every second of our stay here. Steve and Mubi are such a lovely people and also very attentive. We were given lots of recommendations about the places around, great restaurants and so much more. Thank you again for having us! We look forward to come back! Great place to stay!

We really enjoyed our stay at Ashby’s. I booked on the strength of the reviews and it didn’t disappoint. We loved the communal areas -our kids had the best fun playing air hockey and table football. The kitchen attached to our room was really handy. Great location and lovely and clean.

Ashby's is superb, Steve and Mubi have created a beautiful, welcoming space that is so much more than a place to stay. Their hospitality is outstanding, with so many wonderful touches and added extras that enhance the visitor's experience.

Thank you to Steve and the team for making us feel so welcome and going above and beyond letting us have an extra late checkout. The girls loved the air hockey and games room and it was the perfect location so near to the seafront, local restaurants and the great south run. We would definitely stay again and recommend

One of the best

One of the best hotels I have stayed at this year. The room and bed were exceptional and the extras like Alexa and Netflix are a nice touch I would recommend staying great host

The most comfortable hotel in Portsmouth with jacuzzi, sauna and lots of facilities, near from the sea front, pubs and restaurants, the people were very friendly they gave me a beautiful big room. I really enjoy the hotel and I will be back again..... I high recommend this place with 5 stars everything was amazing!!!!
