The hotel was beautiful. The room was very clean, and I greatly appreciated the handheld shower and the full mattress enclosures on the mattresses to prevent parasite infestation. It really provided great piece of mind.
A beautiful, historic hotel in the center of downtown. Everything was good but could have been amazing if not for a couple of things. 1) in the hallway on our floor there seemed to be a slight odor of sewage. It wasn’t horrible but it was noticeable. 2) there was a false fire alarm that went off several times during our 1 night’s stay. We had to wake up and get dressed and were instructed to evacuate (this part was not a problem), then after several minutes heard over an intercom that it was not a problem and that we could return to our rooms. This routine happened several times during the night so needless to say it was not a great night sleep. Not trying to be overly critical because things happen and I wouldn’t want anyone to avoid this hotel because of our bad luck. Like I said the place is beautiful, the staff is great and the restaurant is very good.
Excellent place to stay
A must stay
Amazing hotel and staff. Rooms are very thoughtfully laid out and well stocked.
We felt very safe walking to nearby stores. It’s a great hotel very clean
Great views from the room. In the center of town. We walked everywhere from there! DIA, shopping, dinner. Staff was super nice and lobby and lobby bar is gorgeous.
Stay exceeded expectations
A . Staff was fantastic, room was super clean, view was perfect. There is no better place to stay in Detroit.
A beautiful hotel in a great location right downtown Detroit. We loved it!
Fabtastic gem of Detroit!
I have travelled heavily throughout North America and Japan, and this is one of the best hotels I have EVER stayed in in my 60 years!!! It is spectacularly beautiful and chic. The conversion of this historic building into a hotel and residences is flawless. I honestly cannot believe they have not used this hotel as a film or television location for a noirish story. It is so unique. The staff was possibly the most flawless hotel staff I have ever encountered. The restaurant staff (Troy is so attentive, warm and welcoming-just an outstanding human!), the bar staff, the front desk staff, every doorman and valet parker-happy and unburdened, helpful in every way imaginable…I just could not get over it. There is clearly a genius in charge of hiring and management is obviously top notch because my mother and I were treated like royalty during the entirety of our stay. My housekeeping lady saw me struggling with my two cups of complimentary coffee and my room key-and jumped to my aid by opening my room door for me with a beautiful smile. I did not encounter a single thing that was not just perfect. How do they achieve this level of perfection?, I thought. The room service food was wonderful and the brunch we had in the restaurant was equally top level. The single fluffiest vegetable omelet with goat cheese and potatoes I have EVER HAD. Jalapeño corn bread made in a skillet that was also delicious…. These superlatives sound impossible-oh, I KNOW, but the truth is the truth here.
The Junior Suite was large and so beautiful. The restaurant next door was good
Right across from Tiger Stadium!
Awesome accommodations in the Historic District.
Excellent location and friendly staff.
Beautiful hotel with large rooms and modern bathrooms. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Very walkable area right from the hotel there is plenty to do
I 💕Detroit
It’s a gorgeous hotel in a perfect location. People in Detroit, not just in the hotel, are amazingly nice. Great destinations.
Excellent!
Close to Little Ceasar’s
It was great. Only complaint is the actual mug coffee cups were missed for washing both “appeared” to have dried coffee in the bottom.
Breathtaking hotel with terrible beds
The hotel is breathtaking. The Mattress was old and did not allow us to get a good night sleep. We were seated in the restaurant after our sleepless night at a dirty table table. Empty water glasses were spotted No one came to get our order despite the restaurant being empty. The Dime Store was our new breakfast destination. That was GREAT!!
Very beautiful hotel with kind staff and a great manager, Ahmed. Will stay here again!
Beautiful historic hotel
At this price, the hotel needs more staff. I had trouble connecting with the front desk for room service (15 minute hold, hung up on...). Valet is seemingly run by amateur staff. If you need to get to a job in the morning you're rolling the dice. Both days I had to hunt for a staff member to help get my car.
Great service, great location
Wonderful stay. Staff were excellent starting with Valet, Greeter, and Registration. Excellent piano performer in the cozy library lounge.
Amazing room!
Absolutely wonderful room, great ambiance, top-notch service.
Great updates
This was my first overnight away from our first baby and we were celebrating my husbands birthday. I’ve never spent so much on a hotel room before and was so excited to stay at this hotel. We checked in later in the day around 630/7pm, the man checking us in didn’t look up at us for quite a while, finally looked up with no greeting at all and just said “last name” he found our reservation and said “two queen beds” to which I said no, I booked a king. I was upset because this was a big night away for my husband and like I said I paid a lot. I complained and the man at the counter said “I DONT KNOW IF YOU HEARD ME” but we are sold out of king rooms. He explained that their king rooms are given to the people who book directly on their site, I booked on hotels.com and was not given priority. The man had zero empathy and was incredibly rude. The manager came and attempted to remedy the situation properly, with empathy and kindness. We finally went up to our double queen room and was met with a weird internal building view, not city view like I had also booked. Which again was another disappointment. There are postcards in each room which are a nice touch I went to pick them up and was met with Cheeto like finger prints on them from a previous guest. Positives, the restaurant attached to the hotel was incredible, staff, food etc. The valet guys were awesome and so nice, helpful. The hotel itself was just a complete disappointment, I will never be visiting again.
The staff was so friendly! The bar tenders were great! The room was perfect! Beautiful hotel!!
A great stay
The hotel is beautiful, the staff is excellent and always smiling, location is dish to see Detroit
Hotel was great. The restaurant could use some work. Room service was late, and our food wasn’t worth the cost.
Had I paid $200, my review would have been very good. However, I paid $400, and at that price hotel was lacking. Air conditioning in room very noisy. With all lights on, room very dark. Nice enough amenities but no slippers, no shower cap, no ear buds. Long waits for elevator. And NO secure Wi-Fi. Very accommodating staff—except not always available. No one at desk when I returned from dinner at 9:15. Once back in room 15 minutes later I called reception, but no answer. Next morning, there was a substantial charge in error on my bill. Staff did remove it with apologies. Because bed was comfortable, and fleece line robe quite nice, I give an overall 3 stars or it might have been lower. (PSMy stay dates on this form are wrong. I was actually there one day later.)
My trip was CANCELLED by the Airline (Delta), due to a Global IT crisis, why made air travel unsafe, and now Travelocity will not refund my trip.
The hotel was nice but the staff is not very nice and actually hung up on me when I was trying to explain they charged me two times on my credit card and had already taken the money out of the bank, hopefully it will show up in a few days, anyway I was very frustrated with the hole experience 🙄
We booked a double room. Upon check in. They didn't have any more of those rooms left. They gave us a king room with a pull out sofa. Which is not what we booked. Although everything worked out fine and the sofa bed was comfortable. Just wish we knew prior. The hotel overall was very nice
Beautiful hotel! Very clean! Friendly service! Convenient/walkable location to Comerica Park and Ford Field.
Very ornate, historic, awesome vibes, great location for downtown games, and venues!
This was a beautiful hotel in a great location. Our room was spacious and spotless. We would stay again.
Amazing historic property very close to the ballpark and great restaurants and bars.
Beautifully restored historic building close to the ballpark and restaurants. Highly recommended.
Convenient to Ford Field
We loved the view and the cleanliness
Very Nice astay
Iconic setting and amenities to boot. Super clean and friendly hotel.
Great Hotel, central location for everything in Detroit.
Info is above wasn’t there long
Amazing property! Will stay there again.
The staff was so amazing! The property was gorgeous. This will definitely be where I stay when I travel to the area.
Staff so friendly and room super comfortable. Loved the piano player in the library in the late afternoon/evening.
Amazing staff.
I liked how clean the rooms were. Very cozy robe. Wish there were 2. Wish there was better quality shampoo and conditioner. Also wish the curtains facing the busy road were true blackout curtains.
Was given the wrong wrong when I checked in but the next day they told me that they would refund my parking and $100 off my stay
Everything was perfect, but NO BLOW DRYER! Which I didn’t discover until after my hair was wet
By far one of the best hotel stays my wife and I have stayed at. Short Mothers Day getaway with a Tigers game, the hotel was a perfect location. The room was super clean, smelled good, and very spacious.
My absolute favorite place to stay in Detroit! Beautiful atmosphere, great service and amazing location. Stand out service from everyone- especially Kolby.
I ordered room service on Mother’s Day and they never delivered it and the front desk staff where so rude you don’t stay @ a 5 star hotel for this it’s un acceptable we will never stay again we are traveling from Florida and next time we visit we will not chose the Whitney
Beautiful but some issues.
Brought my 93 yr old mother and bed was so high she could barely get in it. Had to use a step stool and assist her. Too many carpets in lobby to roll suitcases. Only 1 working elevator. Beautiful and good service but noisy at night for sleeping
STAY HERE!
Amazing, all around! Lovely staff, spotless room, easy to access. RECOMMEND HIGHLY!
The staff was very rude while checking in. Everything else was very pristine.
Chiddici
Beautiful hotel, great staff and everything
Five stars
Fantastic customer service, beautiful views, and comfortable rooms. Nice on site restaurant and bar.
Great
The building was old and stately and well renovated. The staff members were friendly and attentive and helpful. Dining was limited. They only have valet parking. The cost exceeded the value for us.
Great stay in Detroi
Beautiful hotel located near all three stadiums and the Fox Theatre. Staff was so helpful and friendly. Can't recommend highly enough!
Friendly and helpful staff!
From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by David T. He personally took us to the front desk where Desmond got us checked in and to our room with super efficiency. Our room is gorgeous! Like stepping into a designer showroom. Bed is so comfortable, room was super quiet. I have stayed in many high end properties and this was one of the best! I would highly recommend it!!
This is a vintage building that was remodeled into an absolutely stunning hotel! High-quality finishes everywhere! And a brand new restaurant named Presley‘s on the main floor that opened up… Excellent salads!
Was nice to have an apartment size room. Great views of the area?
Whitney is a great place to stay in downtown Detroit
The proximity of things to do.
Staff were amazing!!!! Treated us well!!
Incredible experience, facility and staff.
The hotel is simply stunning. They have done a fantastic job of remodeling. It is truly a classic. The room was a suite and was perfect. Classic appointments, comfortable and welcoming. The staff was also incredible. The bartender in the lobby bar, Evette, was very friendly and welcoming. Top notch employee. Desmond at the front desk was very helpful with great dining recommendations within walking distance. This was one of the best experiences I can remember in all my business travel. The one negative that prevented a 5 star review is that they are finishing the remodeling so there was a bit of noise in the daytime hours as they finish the work.
They are still completing some construction and breakfast currently isn’t available on property. Otherwise, a very nice hotel with good service. Well located in central downtown Detroit within easy walking distance to most stadiums and attractions.
Room was clean, staff was friendly and helpful
Best hotel experience ever
Amazing experience, I will never stay anywhere else in Detroit. Desmond is phenomenal and made the experience beyond exceptional
I encountered an issue with the billing at this hotel as I was mistakenly charged twice, and despite my attempts to resolve the matter, Orbitz and the hotel have been uncooperative in reversing the additional charge. I strongly advise against booking a stay at this establishment, or using Orbitz for reservations. It has been a frustrating experience dealing with this situation.
Almost amazing!!!
Great hotel, and the history is fantastic. Great location, amazing rooms, and very comfortable. Our only issue was that it is now Marriott and uses its terrible television service. After a long day, we wanted to crash and watch tv. Marriotts bonvoy TVs are terrible. It didn’t work, and there were no phones in the room to call the desk. For 400+ per night, the TVs should work!!
Beautiful hotel, great location
Customer service was terrible , unable to reach the front desk and one of the employees simply stated that’s because they keep the phone off the hook. It was unsafe practice had we needed help . I would never stay here again and I hope others do not as well literally the valet staff were the only nice staff members.
We had a wonderful experience staying at Aloft Detroit. The staff was courteous and friendly. It is a beautiful building and a very short walk to the football and baseball stadiums, as well as to the Fillmore. Look forward to staying there again.
I wish the breakfast was better but the rooms were good
I woke up at 5:30 a.m. for a flight and the water from the shower was so cold I couldn't take a shower before flying back to the west coast. The manager at the front desk explained, "old building." I live in a building built 100 years ago and I've never had this problem. Inexcusable. I will be filing for a refund through American Express.
Great service
Beautiful historic building Clean, modern rooms Comfortable Beds Great location Convenient valet parking Quiet The only downside was the price. It was more than I've ever paid for any hotel--even a luxury Manhattan hotel room. As nice as it was, paying $400 for hotel in Detroit seems a bit steep.
The manager at the reception desk was such a nice young man. He answered all out questions and gave us excellent advise. He made a possible bad experience excellent!!!
Great historic hotel!
I liked the fact that dogs are welcome. There is a park right across the street, which is very convenient.
Beautiful building! The hotel staff was wonderful.
Perfect for walking to a game
Great location
We had a great one night stay. The hotel is in a great location. Service was also excellent.
Stayed at the hotel and was greeted with a smile! Great location, great.staff and a really comfy bed!

This is my second staying at the Aloft and it was better than the first. Highly recommended
Need more space for valet check in and need concierge to answer questions
I was charged $587.23CAD for changing the start/end dates of my stay (by 1 day) almost 1 month in advance. Upon arriving to the hotel, I was informed that the room I had booked was no longer available. I'm not sure what the point is of being charged such a great penalty for changing the dates of the room I booked. Since in the end, that room wasn't even available to me despite paying for it, and paying again in the form of a penalty in order to keep it for a different date. Before leaving the hotel, I also received an invoice incorrectly charging me $83CAD for "Re: fuel". I had to bring this up during checkout to be removed. Neither myself nor the representative checking me out knew what that charge was about.
Perfect location for the stadium district. Walking distance to a lot of great restaurants , bars, and shops.
We arrived around 4pm. While waiting in line for the valet, I jumped out to check in where I was told valet parking was available and just wait in the line. After 30-minutes, they closed valet parking and told us we had to find parking elsewhere. My husband drove around and paid for overnight parking and then walked back, where they had the valet open! Then they charged us for valet parking!! The room was fine but not worth the price. The toilet seat was broken and not secured. Location is great for Ford Field and Comerica Park, but I wouldn’t pay that price for it again!
Everything was excellent minus the fire alarm that went off in the whole building at 9am. Staff ensured everything was fine, but my partner was locked out of our room for 5-10min as she exited the room when building alarm went off. I can give a pass this time since the rest of the stay was excellent!
Very nice property. Built in early 1900’s and formally filled with doctor’s offices. Location is close to all four professional sports teams in Detroit.
Pretty much an ideal location if you're looking for a downtown Detroit experience. Management is very engaged with the guests. Desk staff is very helpful, consistently wear great smiles, and are genial hosts. Our suite was huge. Super elegant place. Looking forward to returning.
Desmon was amazing! Such great service and thoughtfulness the entire stay.

Beautiful hotel in the heart of downtown Detroit, great for leisure/business travel. Cozy lobby with live piano music. Recommended!
