The steps were a challenge with our suitcases But the proprietor was extremely happy, welcoming and friendly and wanted to speak good English to us. Very helpful indeed and carried our suitcases down the stairs when we left.
Great stay in Monterosso.
Wonderful stay-small, but comfortable room and fantastic service! Good location too. Would highly recommend this hotel.
Loved this place. Great location with amazing host and staff. Very clean and comfortable. Highly recommend
A wonderful place to stay
This lovely accommodation was just the best! Andre, at the front desk, knows everything you need to know about the Cinque Terre. He provided us with comprehensive information of what to do, and how to get to places as well as letting us know the best places to eat. We couldn't have been happier with our room and the service.
Andreas gave really good information in an interactive format with links for transportation, food, and activities
Would stay here again.
Andrea is wonderful and provides all the information you need for your stay and many restaurant suggestions. Very friendly and welcoming and willing to assist in any of your needs
Very friendly and helpful at checkin. Great location.
If I could give 'Staff and Service' more than 5 stars I would! Andrea went above and beyond to make sure I enjoyed my stay. It may not be the fanciest place in Monterosso, but you'll definitely feel at home. I plan to return!
A lovely place to stay. Very clean and quiet. Staff were friendly and extremely helpful with helping me navigate around the area. Thank you
Although the room is small, there is a small patio to sit and enjoy morning coffee or an afternoon drink. Many tv channels, albeit Italian only and the the tv is very small. The staff are excellent, helping on arrival and for any questions you might have. It’s near the top of a hill, about 200m from the main square/ocean. There are many restaurants and shops en route. The owner provides QR codes for everything you need (food, travel, etc).
Amazing host in a great location! Thank you
The owner was extremely helpful and friendly with wonderful recommendations and map of the town. All staff were lovely always making the effort to greet us when coming and going from the property. Make sure you coordinate a check in time prior to arrival for a smooth check in and friendly greeting. Overall amazing experience would definitely stay again!
Would go back anytime!
Andrea is such a great host checking in daily to make sure you have the best experience possible in Monterosso.
Andrea was amazing and so helpful. Great location. Very clean
Great location and super friendly and helpful.
The owner Andrea was so helpful and friendly! While the room was small And the shower door needed some repair, he was quick to exchange a refrigerator that was not working and to help us in any way he could. Top-notch hospitality!
We really enjoyed our stay, the owner is so accommodating and gave us a lot of information via URL codes (very impressive). The location was perfect. I highly recommend this property.
Andrea is a wonderful host at this hotel. So friendly and knows the area very well. Our room was very clean, bed was comfortable, and it was quiet at night for a wonderful night of sleep. Easily the best value from our entire backpacking trip. Highly recommended!
Great place and great host
The host was excellent. Has a great set up and has arranged maps etc and best places to eat. Very helpful. Room was clean, bed comfortable and pillows a decent size. Room did get warm (mid Oct). Air con is not able to be used from October. Thoroughly recommend this place to stay…
Superb place to stay
Amazing! Outstanding customer Serbia and hosting by Andrea.
This property is a small, but professionally run, hotel in Monterosso. It is clean and has strong amenities for its small size. What set it apart though, it’s it’s exceptionally dedicated and enthusiastic host. We were given a full readout of the city, and extensive effort was made to make us feel welcome at all times. We can fully recommend a stay here for any trip to Cinque Terre.
We loved our stay at Albergo Al Carugio. Andrea was super friendly and welcoming. Gave us great recommendations on where to visit and eat in the area. Arranged a great dinner within walking distance of the property- one of the highlights of our trip. Hotel room was clean, comfortable and cool (AC works great). Within walking distance to all the highlights of Monterosso. They even provided us with beach towels and allowed us to leave our luggage before and after check out. Will definitely be recommending this property for family/friends for future travels!
This tiny hotel is a walk from the train if you’re coming in from another city in italy, but totally doable with minimal luggage with wheels, and worth it to be just a few steps from the hustle and bustle but still somewhere quiet and peaceful. Andrea is so attentive to communication, and is the just the friendliest and gives tons of great suggestions. The air conditioning was the strongest I had in italy over my whole trip, and the shower pressure was good and the bed was comfy. What more can you ask for! Great spot and would stay again.
Andrea is a spectacular property manager with helpful information and responsiveness to questions and concerns. The hotel is in a great location with easy access to restaurants in Monterosso and the beach.
Our stay was excellent! The room was very clean and the bed comfortable. Andrea, the manager was
A very convenient location and close to the beach, shops, restaurants and the paths leading to the other towns in Cinque Terre. This is a simple property, but it is clean and a great value and location. The hotel staff is exceptional...friendly, helpful with suggestions on things to do and offered to help us improve our Italian by speaking to us in Italian! But don't worry if you are an English speaker as they are fluent in English as well.
The property manager, Andrea, was very hospitable, approachable, and sensitive to my needs. I initially only planned to stay for 2 days. However, because of my positive experience with him, I end up extending twice, for a total of 7 days.
Wonderful hotel!
Second time staying here. Couldn't be happier with my stay again! The owner Andrea is so accomodating and helpful!! I even asked for a specific room and he immediately returned my email and set me up for that room. I had to get a covid test and he told me exactly where to go and even gave me recommendations of things to do while in the town I had to go to. Very clean and comfortable. The hotel is in the old part of town, so not directly by the beach but few hotels are. If i could give 6 stars i would. I will always keep going back!
We had a pleasant stay! The host is amazing. His recommendation was top-notch, and he’s very helpful with other stuff like beach reservations and local food suggestions.
Comfortable, cosy place. Great host
The Place was nice, simple but comfortable, within walking distance to the beach and on a nice street for shopping/eating. However, what I liked most was the manager, that was very helpful and friendly and provided us many useful tips and information. I wish we could have stayed more.
Great host.
Andrea was a great host, very accommodating. The best way to communicate with him is by telephone - he is very responsive. The place is a bed and breakfast without the breakfast, but there are many places nearby that are excellent, and Andrea will give you a map with that and other information. My room had a little balcony with a table and chairs so I could have coffee outside, and it came with it’s own bathroom. They cleaned everyday meticulously. The room is simply decorated, small, but was perfect in terms of the price. It’s at near the end of Via Roma, and maybe a 10 minute walk (15 min with luggage) from the train station. Check out Pizza Smorfy if you go there.
Andrea is an amazing host and made us feel most welcome. He gave us detailed information on everything and anything to do with Monterosso, the other villages in Cinque Terre and the hikes available. The location is great, the room and en suite were spotless and adequate for our needs. Nice to have a fridge, which we found was not very common whilst travelling in Tuscany and there is a laundrette almost next door. Compared to other properties, often with over 100 steps to climb, the 26 steps were a breeze! We would not hesitate to make this our first choice if we were to visit again and highly recommend it to anyone looking to stay in Monterosso. Thank you Andrea for your hospitality and kindness!
Andrea is the BEST!!
Andrea was so helpful and made us feel very welcome. I would recommend staying here to anyone!! Great place!
Great find, great location!
The location is incredible. The Forum is across the street and the Colosseum is within a couple of blocks. The staff is warm and helpful. The room is very adequate with a window that opens to the street. It was fun to open it to hear the sounds of people on the street but also nice to close those sounds out at bedtime.
Andrea was excellent! Very helpful and accommodating. The bathroom was small but worked for the two nights we were there.
Nice property in a good location. Andrea was very helpful in advising us of nearby restaurants, and things to do. Would stay there again.
Location is great. Close to everything. Friendly staff.
Perfect Hotel in Monterosso!
Ok, seriously I cant say enough good things about this place. I was a little weary with this being a 1 start hotel but booked it because of all the great reviews about the owner Andrea and his friendly service. I would stay here again just because he was SO pleasant and helpful!!! One day I was speaking too quickly and I was asking him if he could possibly call my next hotel for me. He said "I dont know exactly what you need but I will do it!!" Its on the older side of town and it is passed all the shops pretty much where it starts to become residential. There is a bank and small food mart right across the street. If you have a hard time walking then this might not be for you (stairs too) but otherwise it's not a bad walk at all. Its just not at the very bottom like some hotels on the new side are. It is a 1 star hotel so it's not fancy. A nice, clean comfy bed, a shower with great water pressure and pleasntly surprising, a personal balcony. The only thing I can (kind of) say is that if you are a light sleeper it might not be for you. I use ear plugs every night so the noise didnt bother me. On the other hand, every place I've stayed this trip has had thin walls so I dont know how much better it would be somewhere else. Personally I will be back in Monterosso and I will go to stay here again in a heart beat. Thanks Andrea!
Lovely little inn that feels like home.
Andrea is wonderful, it is quiet and clean. I had my own little patio off my room and it was so easy to walk around the town from the hotel. Andrea also recommends great restaurants. Lovely little inn, made my stay all the better
Great Place for Exploring Cinque Terre
Monterosso is an excellent base for Cinque Terre hikers and beach goers and Alberto al Carugio is a great place to stay. It is not fancy but is modern, immaculate and comfortable. Andrea, the owner-host, offered excellent customer service. He texted clear directions prior to our arrival and offered helpful traveler tips for hiking, restaurants and exploring the area. There are shops nearby so you can store breakfast things in your room refrigerator and eat on the patio. Monterosso is one of the ‘larger’ CT towns, but is actually a small, quaint village. Al Carugio is located in the older, historic part and is just a 6-minute walk to the beach —guests can get beach towels. We would stay here again. (Email the hotel directly for discounted rates.)
We stayed there 3 days, we had a great stay. The location is great, rooms are very clean, air condition works perfectly, Andrea was very very helpful and takes care of his guests. I would definitely stay there again and would recommend it to anyone heading to cinque de terre.
Excellent stay
This hotel was great. The staff were so friendly and helpful, especially Andrea - he really helped me to make sure I made the most of my trip to Cinque Terre. My room was cleaned daily and location was perfect. Would definitely recommend and stay here again.
The property was in a fantastic location. Andrea was an amazing host, extremely friendly and very knowledgeable.
Andrea the host is probably the best Person in Italy - He was so kind so helpful did more and beyond than expected, always offered to help and suggested the best places to see - the Hotel is great and located in the best place to be - walk everywhere, clean, friendly and the easiest. This place is one of the most friendly places in Europe - Excellent, Excellent, Excellent !!!
Cute, quaint, friendly, clean B&B in Monterosso
From the moment I got there Andrea was so friendly and gracious and took a lot of time to show me around, tell me about all the things to do and see, and places to eat nearby. He was friendly and warm and helped with anything I needed throughout my stay. It is not a fancy place, but it is super clean, pleasantly decorated, air con works great, shower pressure strong, bed really comfy and it was a perk to have a small fridge in the room to keep drinks cold and such. It was a perfect place to stay at the top of the main village of Monterosso. The train was about 10-15 min walk away, beach about five min and plenty of restaurants and shops within three-five min walk. Overall I had a very pleasant stay and would recommend Albergo Al Carugio to anyone looking for a cute, clean and well run B&B.
Property is a short walk from the train station. Room is basic. Wifi works well. Walls are a little thin but still able to sleep well. The orientation provided of the area when you first arrived is fantastic. Staff is so willing to answer questions, directions and welcome you to 5T. Truly fantastic. Wonderful restaurants in the area and private beaches (surcharge) to escape some of the influx of people from the trains and boats. Easy access to hiking trails to Vernazza.
One of a kind
This was the best experience we’ve had in Italy thus far. I can’t speak enough of good words about Andrea and his staff. He was more than understanding when we ran into travel trouble and had to push back our trip. The room was gorgeous, clean and comfy. He was so accommodating and helpful even with the slightest issue we had. He will also give you the best places to eat. We are looking forward to coming back just to stay here!
Great holiday!
Hotel was very comfortable and clean. Location was great; close walk to cafes and beaches. Andrea was a true host and made us feel welcome and was very helpful with suggestions. Grazie!
Don't expect a lot of amenities, but do expect a clean, basic room where everything works as it should. The owner and proprietor, Andrea, is a delight! And the location at the farther end of via del Roma makes it quiet enough to sleep with the windows open.
