Great hotel for the area.

Not the best place to stay

The hotel reception and bar staff are excellent. However the restaurant is appalling. The quality of the food is poor. There is very little vegetarian options, except for boiled veg. If you arrive at breakfast past 7:30am, there is hardly any food left and the staff do not replenish the plates. Even the coffee pot is not refilled! The staff try their best and are very helpful, but unfortunately it is not worth the money. There are better and cheaper places to stay in Maputo

I was very disappointed with this stay. The agent checking us in was obviously drunk and could barely communicate at all. The towels were stained and had holes in them. The AC was working. But what was most disturbing was while sleeping my door was opened and someone tried to enter my room.

This place advertises itself as a 5 star hotel. I'd struggle to call it a 2 star. The staff didn't care. The rooms are tired looking. The crowd in the bar was out of control and yelling abuse at management who did nothing. And the location is very unsafe beyond 2 short blocks. Guys hovering in dark doorways and the red light district right there. Don't visit

Comfortable home from home

A good stay as usual at this property. Spacious clean rooms with everything working. Good breakfast service with attentive English speaking staff. Good location next to the mall. Great sculptures in the foyer and bar areas.

good location. good helpful staff, nice breakfast , large rooms, attentive housekeeping. money worth .but I have suggestion for improvements - there is kitchen but no kitchen ware or utensils.

This is NOT a 5 star hotel. Breakfast OK, but no service except to clean and a guy at the front to demand room #. WiFi OK. Bathroom outdated with only a hand shower in the tub. Gym was lame.

Staff was very profession. Excellent quality of room. The hotel is located in a busy neighborhood that can be overwhelming for first time visitors, and I felt very secure and safe. The prices for tours and other services though are extremely high and not at all in line with the local cost of living, and would be high for other nations as well.

It was generally alright though there was not sufficient holders for soap. Also, the key card didn't work most of the time

Good for business stay

Service was prompt and courteous. Always ready to exceed expectation. Wifi was slow though. Great location beside the Maputo Shopping Mall with lots of restaurants for dinner.

The staff were always friendly and helpful. The hotel is very clean and professional. The security staff were also quite welcoming and helpful. We felt very safe.

The rooms are very nice and spatious. The spa and facilities were under renovation unfortunately. Staff is very nice and helpful. Breakfast is good.

Spacious Room

Clean, modern facilities, attractive and spacious room. But worst problem was bad internet. Did not work at all until second day, then too slow so that is a big negative for a business guest such as myself. I had to get an external modem to get good internet speed. The restaurant is far from five-star. Buffet breakfast is only average at best, and that would be the best way to describe the dinner menu and quality as well Considerable work is needed on some services as described above.

Decent enough

Hotel is close to the ferry terminal and lower city business district. Convenient to shopping and basic food options. Staff are generally friendly and the rooms are larger than I had anticipated. It is good to insist upon check-in that a non-smoking room is preferred. Breakfasts are adequate. Laundry service is slow -- 2 days -- but of good quality. Front desk staff are friendly and competent, but comfort with and understanding of English are a bit limited.

Spotlessly clean and friendly. Restaurant is quite basic but there is a great seafood restaurant, Zambi, close by. Overall prices very reasonable.

Great Stay

It was a great trip in Hotel Afrin. The room service was awesome and the facilities was top notch. The gym was closed at the time because of renovation. The only downside is the wifi and the telephone service. The wifi was slow and very unreliable. The telephone in room does not allow to call outside. The guest has to give the number to the reception and have to wait for them to pass the msg

Convenient for business

I had meetings 3 days around Maputo and this made a good base. Food was very good and came quickly. Hotel staff were friendly. There is a small gym but would be nice to have music or a TV that you can turn on. Some people complained of the bugling but in general I found it a very quiet hotel in comparison to most, even though I was by the elevator.

Great hotel

We stayed at the Afrin Prestige twice during our stay. They met us at the airport both times even though the planes were 1 hour late. The staff was friendly and very helpful.

A perfect stay in Maputo

I have stayed at the Afrin a number of times now. It is convenient for the Office, close to the shopping centre and the Staff are absolutely brilliant, courteous, efficient and friendly. Breakfasts are great.... A couple of minor negatives: the room service menu is very limited and no cutlery or plates in the cupboard so having a small kitchenette is a little pointless unless you bring your own stuff. Overall I would highly recommend the Afrin Prestige and I will definitely be returning.

5* hotel? Not at all!

There's a minor issues that are not conceivable to a five stars hotel. For example, in the room, you don't have a pen or pencil to take notes. TV doesn't have a cable connexion.... Much have to be done to make this hotel a true 5*.

Good business hotel, excellent service

This was a business stay. Have used this hotel a number of times. Location is good for businesses located on Av 25 September. Wifi works well. Rooms are large and clean and have a small kitchen in the room. A small shopping mall is located next door with restaurants. Onsite restaurant is of a good quality. Good firm pillows, and comfortable bed. Recommended for business stays in Maputo.

My room was very spacious and clean and the staff were very friendly. Nice location next to the Maputo Shopping Center and close to the offices I had meetings at. Very nice breakfast buffet.

Lovely for business, good value for money. Not perfectly situated in Maputo but really good for business and just staying over a night or two.

Good, clean hotel

This hotel is located near many businesses in Maputo. It is clean, and the internet access is free (albeit a little slow at times). The rooms are large and have kitchenettes, kettles, microwave and tea/coffee. The dining room is small but the breakfast is acceptable. The dinner menu can be a little liiting but the food is generally very good. Service was excellent from all staff.

Very nice hotel for a business traveller

Hotels are costly in Mozambique. Keeping that in mind, at US$ 218 for a double room, this is a very good choice. I also got a good rate this time (last time it was 32 $ more). This perhaps is not the place to comment on the other hotel that I earlier booked via expedia. You should really take Tivoli Maputo out of your list. A group from Bangladesh stayed there during the time I was in Afrin. They found it terrible and grossly overpriced. The lone elvator was, as usual, out of order and they had to climb the stairs to 4th floor. And it was $ 220 for a double room.

Satisfactory

Overall, the hotel is a satisfactory destination in Maputo. We stayed on two different occasions in May, during our first stay we were placed in a nice room; however, the noise of a local bar was loud for the entire night. The second stay, we were facing the beach and a more pleasant environment. Two highlights, one morning I was stuck in a very warm elevator for over twenty minutes. While I didn't ask for any compensation, nothing was offered. Secondly, the Expedia price was considerably lower than the actual price........be aware. Overall, the staff were pleasant and accommodations, while overpriced considering other options in the area, were acceptable.
